Chapter Seven: Dance with me
“Yes Sango, I know he’s a bit…pervy, but he’s still a really good guy. You should at least give him a chance.” Kagome could hear the loud sigh on the other end of the line. She’d been on the phone with her best friend Sango for the last half hour, trying to convince her that Miroku wasn’t as bad as she thought. So far, she wasn’t having much luck.
“Kagome, how can you say that? Every time I’m around him he’s either trying to fondle my ass, or making some messed up remark about ‘bearing his children,’ which we all know is hentai code for ‘can I fuck you.’”
“So he’s got a high sex drive, so what? He’s a young good looking man, and he’s crazy about you! And Sango…it’s not like you’re the picture of innocence yourself…Remember Hojo…?” Kagome could almost see the crimson wave wash over her friend’s face.
“That’s a low blow Kagome.”
“And you’re a hypocrite Sango. I’m sorry, but I’ve known Miroku a lot longer than you have and yes, he’s got an over active libido, but you can’t judge him solely on that. He’s never been anything but nice to you Sango, he’s always taken your abuse, and he’s never said an unkind word to or about you.”
“Let’s just change the subject okay? There’s nothing you can say that’s going to convince me to go out with Miroku, so just drop it.” Kagome wanted to shout at her stubborn ass friend, but there was something that she needed her advice on.
“Fine, I won’t bring it up again, but you have to help me with something.”
“What’s that?”
Kagome spent the next ten minutes going over everything; from her and Inuyasha’s first meeting, to the catastrophe on the stairwell, to the confusing doughnut incident, the interesting Kouga scene, and finished off with her fainting in her living room. Sango listened silently at her end, breaking in now and then with a few sympathetic ‘awes.’
“But you do like this guy right Kags?”
“Yes, but he’s way out of my league.”
“Okay, I’m not even going there with you, baka. Tell me more about this guy.”
“What’s more to tell? He’s rich, he’s drop dead gorgeous, and he works at a day care. Do you think there’s something, you know, wrong with him? Like maybe he’s a few bricks short of a full load?”
“Kagome, come on.”
She was about to say something when she heard a loud knock at her door. She checked her watch 6:30pm.
“Hey Sango I gotta go, there’s someone at the door.”
“Maybe it’s Inuyasha.” Kagome snorted.
“I highly doubt it. Later.”
“Bye Kags.”
Kagome hung up the phone and made her way to the front door. Wouldn’t it be interesting if that really is Inuyasha at my door? Chuckling she opened the door, and fell silent when she saw Inuyasha Taisho standing on the other side. He grinned lazily at her.
“Hi Kagome.”
“Uh, hi Inuyasha.”
“Could I come in for a minute?” She nodded slowly and took a step back, giving him room to enter. He was standing in the middle of her living room, facing her with his hands stuffed in his pockets. He rocked back and forth on his feels, as if waiting for her to say something. Why does he look so nervous?
“Um, would you like something to drink?” He stopped rocking and shook his head.
“No thanks. How are you doing? I mean, I haven’t seen you since, er, earlier.”
“I’m fine, really. Like I said, it was probably just a little dizzy spell.”
“Oh. Well, that’s good.”
“Is…that what you came over for? To see how I was doing?”
“Well, yes. And no. I kind of wanted to ask you something else.” He shifted slightly, wondering if he should go through with this. Grow up Inuyasha, it’s not like you’ve never asked a woman out before. This one’s different. How? I don’t know, there’s just…something. Well you’re never going to find out what that something is unless you suck it up and ask her already!
“Kagome, are you doing anything tonight? I mean, I was wondering if you’d like to go out…with me, tonight.” She bowed her head, hiding the wide smile on her face.
“You mean, on a date?”
“I’ll understand if you’re not interested, I mean we just met and all. And you probably have a boy friend, in which case I’m very sorry, in more ways than you’ll ever know. And I should stop rambling and just say that yes, I do mean on a date.” Kagome raised her head and Inuyasha could see the smile on her lips.
“I would love to go out with you Inuyasha.” He let out the breath he’d been holding in and relaxed.
“Great! That’s great. I’ll come ‘round about eight then?”
“Sounds good.”
“Good. Bye Kagome.” He bent down and grazed his lips across her cheek before leaving. When she was sure that his demon ears were out of range, Kagome let out a squeal of delight and rushed to the phone to call Sango.

“Stop staring at me asshole, you’ll give me a complex.”
“My apologies little brother, I jut haven’t seen you in anything but jeans in the last, oh 5 years.”
“Keh.” He was wearing a dark red silk shirt, unbuttoned at the collar and tucked into his black trousers. A leather belt and black leather shoes completed the simple, yet still stylish outfit.
“And where are you taking the little ningen tonight?”
“I was thinking dinner at The Four Souls.”
“Hmm, that’s an interesting choice.” Inuyasha looked at his brother suspiciously.
“Really? How so?”
“Well, for one, The Four Souls is the kind of restaurant that I would bring a date.”
“What, you thought maybe I’d take her to a road house out in the boon docks? Give me a little credit Sessh, I do have some class.”
“Says the man who has never in his life worn a tie. You wouldn’t even wear one in the office for Christ’s sake.” Inuyasha shrugged and wiped invisible lint off his shirt sleeve.
“They’re too restricting.” Sesshomaru rolled his eyes at his hopeless brother.
“How serious are you about this little ningen Inuyasha?” Inuyasha wasn’t sure if he should answer, given Sesshomaru’s tendency to mock him whenever he got the chance. But Inuyasha saw the serious set in his brother’s eyes. Oh well, I can always kick his ass later.
“She’s gotten under my skin Sessh. I don’t know how else to explain it. It’s like, she’s taken a hold of my mind, making sure that she’s all I can think about. And you know what? I don’t think she even realizes what she’s doing to me.”
“And how long have you known this woman again?”
“About 3 days.” Sesshomaru whistled low, and gave his brother a sympathetic look.
“You got it bad little brother.” Inuyasha sighed, shaking his head.
“Don’t I know it.”

“Did I mention how gorgeous you look?” Kagome blushed. Inuyasha had been showering her with compliments since he picked her up. Now they were coasting down the highway in Inuyasha’s silver porche, and he was still sneaking peeks at her.
“Yes Inuyasha you have, about 5 times now. But thank you.”
“Well, you are.” He couldn’t help but smile. She really was stunning, wearing a flirtatious little black dress with a velvet, ruched strapless bodice, and a silk skirt that flared lightly at mid-thigh. A red silk sash played around her hips. Inuyasha stopped at a red light and took the opportunity to let his gaze travel down her long, silky legs. His golden eyes lingered on her creamy thighs, which were barely covered by the short skirt of her dress.
“Inuyasha, the light is green now.” He tore his eyes reluctantly from her delicious flesh and cleared his throat.
“Oh right.” After about five minutes of silence, Kagome got bored.
“So, Inuyasha, where are we going?”
“Not going. Here.” He turned the wheel and pulled the car into the parking lot of The Four Souls. Kagome’s eyes widened when she recognized the posh restaurant.
“Wow, I’ve always wanted to come here. Are you sure I’m dressed alright?” She looked down at the short skirt of her dress worried. Inuyasha reached out a hand and gently turned her face to meet his golden stare.
“You look perfect Kagome, absolutely…perfect.” He leaned across the seat and lowered his head slowly. Kagome sighed softly as his lips touched hers in a gentle kiss. Inuyasha hesitated, giving her a chance to pull away. When she didn’t, he pulled her closer and covered her mouth with his. He ran his tongue over her bottom lip, begging entrance into her delicious mouth. She gasped and he darted his tongue inside. Kagome moaned against his lips and swirled her tongue around his, relishing the feel of her body pressed against his. Inuyasha reluctantly pulled back slowly, placing small kisses on her lips before breaking away completely. Her eyes opened slowly and met his heated gaze. She shivered, even though the look in his eyes made her body burn.
“Kagome…” He looked into her bright cobalt eyes and lost all ability to speak. This woman will be the death of you Inuyasha. No, I don’t think so. This woman will be my reason for living. He smiled softly, running a clawed finger lightly down her cheek. “Are you ready Kagome?” She knew he was referring to the restaurant, but that didn’t stop her mind from racing to the other thing that she was ready for. She nodded though, and waited for him to come around the front of the car to open her door. He took her hand and helped her out, and pulled her close to his side as they walked towards the entrance of The Four Souls.

“I think this is the most delicious thing I’ve ever tasted.” Kagome looked down at the chocolate dessert in front of her with pure pleasure. Inuyasha reached over and ran his thumb over her bottom lip. He brought it back to his mouth and sucked gently, his gaze locked with hers.
“Delicious.” Kagome lowed her eyes and blushed, causing a smile to appear on Inuyasha’s lips. Dinner had gone smoothly enough. He’d kept the flow of conversation directed around her, and her life. He wanted to learn everything he could about Kagome. She’d talked about her life as a child, the shrine she’d grown up in and her family. His heart had plummeted when she mentioned how every Sunday she drove into the country to visit the old shrine and her family. She wont be here tomorrow. But she’ll be back on Monday, don’t worry. But she’ll be gone tomorrow. Only for the day, she has to come back by nightfall. It’s not the same.
“Inuyasha, there’s something I’ve been wanting to ask you, and I understand if you think it’s none of my business, I actually think it’s none of my business. But…it’s sort of been gnawing at my mind, like a little tick that just wont go away.” She looked a little nervous, so Inuyasha reached across the table and took her hand in his. He rubbed his thumb gently against the soft skin, and held her gaze with calm, open eyes.
“Ask me anything Kagome. I mean it.” And he did mean it. He wanted her to be able to trust him, and if that meant telling her all his secrets, then so be it. She got this determined look on her face, and he could tell she believed him.
“Inuyasha, why do you work at a day care center when you could be running a multi-billion dollar empire like Taisho Corp?” She looked nervous again, and he knew she was about to apologize for what she thought as a bold and too personal question. Truthfully, Inuyasha had been wondering why she hadn’t asked sooner.
“It’s okay Kagome, I’m kind of surprised you didn’t ask me sooner.”
“So…you’re not just a few bricks short of a full load?” Inuyasha laughed at the teasing question.
“No, I think I’m quite sane.” Except when it comes to you, that is. He could see the tension leaving her body, and she was no longer nervous as she gave him her full attention. Inuyasha let out a breath, wondering where to begin.
“When my father died 6 years ago, he left everything to me and Sesshomaru. Sesshoaru’s mother died when he was a kid, and my own mother, my father’s second wife, died about a year before my father. Anyway, Sessh and I gained complete control of Taisho Corp. There were a few members of the board who tried to contest our taking command, but we owned about 90 percent of all shares in Taisho Corp, so we basically owned their asses. Sessh and I became co-Presidents and Chairmen, and for a while, my life couldn’t have gotten any better. I was young, rich and powerful; I held the world literally in the palm of my hand, and I was enjoying every second of it. There was no one more ruthless than me, not even Sesshomaru. I picked companies apart piece by piece until there was nothing left but a hollow shell. Empires crumbled at my feet, and I couldn’t wait to move on to my next conquest.” He shifted uncomfortably, and Kagome squeezed his hand gently. He expected to see loathing in her eyes, perhaps not for him, but at least for what he had been, what he had done. But her blue eyes held only warmth, making his heart melt.
“And then one day, I just quit. I wish I could tell you that I had some sort of epiphany, or that a little old lady made me see the error of my ways, but I didn’t and there was no little old lady. Truthfully, I was disgusted with myself; with what I had become. I couldn’t even bare to look myself in the mirror anymore. I sold most of my shares to Sessh, and resigned. Needless to say, Sesshomaru was far from amused, and actually threatened to ‘kick my hanyou ass up and down the corridor’ if I didn’t change my mind. He actually gave me a bloody lip when I still refused.”
“But…why…”
“Why do I work at a day care? Because there is nothing more innocent, or more pure, than the heart of a child. I know it sounds corny, but I believe it’s true. And I needed to associate myself with the complete opposite of the corporate world. I child will never try to stab me in the back, never try to black mail me, never try to ruin me financially just for the hell of it. You can always look into the eyes of a child and see the truth, because they haven’t mastered the art of lying. Long story short, I went back to school, got a degree in Child Psychology, and here I am.”
“That’s quite a story Inuyasha.” He shrugged, sliding a lazy grin into place.
“You wanted to know, so I told you.” Kagome smiled, trailing soft fingers across his open palm.
“Thank you…for being honest with me.”
“Always Kagome.” He stood up and took her hand, pulling her out of her seat. He lowered his head and brought his lips close to her ear. “Dance with me Kagome.” She nodded, and he led her to the open dance floor of The Four Souls, where there was always a live band playing.
There's a song that's inside of my soul.It's the one that I’ve tried to write over and over again.I'm awake in the infinite cold.But you sing to me over and over and over again.
So I lay my head back down.And I lift my hands and prayTo be only yours, I pray, to be only yoursI know now you're my only hope.
Inuyasha held Kagome to his chest as they moved to soft melodies of the music. She buried her face in his shoulder and closed her eyes. She let his warmth and strength envelope her as a sense belonging washed over her. This is where I belong, in this man’s arms.
Sing to me the song of the stars.Of your galaxy dancing and laughing again.When it feels like my dreams are so farSing to me of the plans that you have for me over again.So I lay my head back down.And I lift my hands and pray To be only yours, I pray, to be only yours.I know now, you're my only hope.
He lost himself in her. The tantalizing sent of lavender combined with the feel of her luscious body pressed against his, made Inuyasha determined never to let her go. This is right. She’s right, and she’s mine.
I give you my destiny.I’m giving you all of me.I want your symphony, singing in all that I amAt the top of my lungs, I'm giving it back.So I lay my head back down.And I lift my hands and prayTo be only yours, I pray, to be only yoursI pray, to be only yoursI know now you're my only hope.hmmmmmmmm, hmmmmmmmm, ooooooooooh
Kagome lifted her head and looked into Inuyasha’s golden eyes. In them she saw his warmth and passion, and all the strength and softness in him. They were no longer moving, but he still held her close, and she could hear his heart beating just as rapidly as her own. She touched his cheek softly with her fingertips and trailed them lower to brush lightly over his lips. His eyes blazed molten gold and he grabbed her hand suddenly. Kagome tilted her head and looked at him curiously. He smiled slyly and captured her lips in searing kiss. Kagome melted into the kiss, melted into him. The kiss ended abruptly, when a sudden roar of applause erupted around the dance floor.
Inuyasha and Kagome stood alone in the middle of the dance floor, which was surrounded by people who were clapping and cheering, completely captivated by the young couple.
Inuyasha smiled into Kagome’s flushed face, and bent his head to whisper in her ear. “I think that’s our cue to leave ne?” She smiled and let him lead her off the dance floor. Stopping only long enough to pay the check, they quickly exited the restaurant and stepped out into the fresh night air. Kagome felt rejuvenated by the cool air on her skin and couldn’t help the laughter that burst from her lips.
“That was either the most embarrassing moment of my life, or the most exciting.” Inuyasha couldn’t help the sensuous smile that formed on his lips, or the husky tone in his voice.
“I’m sure we could think of something more exciting, if we put our minds to work.” He expected her to blush and smile nervously. And was pleasantly surprised she peered at him through lowered lashes, and smiled teasingly.
“Yes…I’m sure something will come to us.”
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Inuyasha kissed her warmly, nibbling on her bottom lip. She parted for him, welcoming his silky hot tongue with a soft moan. His body was ignited by her response and he crushed her supple body even closer to his. She shuddered as he trailed his clawed hands lazily down her sides to rest at her waist. He broke the kiss suddenly, giving them both a chance to pull in some much needed air. Inuyasha reached ran his claws through her silky black hair.
“Kagome.” Her name slipped from his lips in a heated whisper.
“Inuyasha, I…” Why am I hesitating? I want him, I crave him. You’ve only just met him. That doesn’t matter to me. Yes it does, you know it does. Inuyasha looked into her stormy blue eyes and saw the uncertainty in them. He sighed and smiled softly.
“It’s okay Kagome. I’m not going to pretend that I’m not disappointed, but I understand. I’m not going to rush you into anything you’re not ready for.” She lowered her eyes and stepped out of his arms, out of his warmth.
“Inuyasha…Goodnight Inuyasha.” He brushed a kiss across her forehead, over her cheek, and on her lips.
“ ‘Night Kagome.” He stood back as she opened the door and walked through. His heart broke when he saw the tear roll down her cheek, just before she closed the door.
I picked companies apart piece by piece until there was nothing left but a hollow shell. Empires crumbled at my feet, and I couldn’t wait to move on to my next conquest.” He shifted uncomfortably, and Kagome squeezed his hand gently. He expected to see loathing in her eyes, perhaps not for him, but at least for what he had been, what he had done. But her blue eyes held only warmth, making his heart melt.
“And then one day, I just quit. I wish I could tell you that I had some sort of epiphany, or that a little old lady made me see the error of my ways, but I didn’t and there was no little old lady. Truthfully, I was disgusted with myself; with what I had become. I couldn’t even bare to look myself in the mirror anymore. I sold most of my shares to Sessh, and resigned. Needless to say, Sesshomaru was far from amused, and actually threatened to ‘kick my hanyou ass up and down the corridor’ if I didn’t change my mind. He actually gave me a bloody lip when I still refused.”
“But…why…”
“Why do I work at a day care? Because there is nothing more innocent, or more pure, than the heart of a child. I know it sounds corny, but I believe it’s true. And I needed to associate myself with the complete opposite of the corporate world. I child will never try to stab me in the back, never try to black mail me, never try to ruin me financially just for the hell of it. You can always look into the eyes of a child and see the truth, because they haven’t mastered the art of lying. Long story short, I went back to school, got a degree in Child Psychology, and here I am.”
“That’s quite a story Inuyasha.” He shrugged, sliding a lazy grin into place.
“You wanted to know, so I told you.” Kagome smiled, trailing soft fingers across his open palm.
“Thank you…for being honest with me.”
“Always Kagome.” He stood up and took her hand, pulling her out of her seat. He lowered his head and brought his lips close to her ear. “Dance with me Kagome.” She nodded, and he led her to the open dance floor of The Four Souls, where there was always a live band playing.
There's a song that's inside of my soul.It's the one that I’ve tried to write over and over again.I'm awake in the infinite cold.But you sing to me over and over and over again.
So I lay my head back down.And I lift my hands and prayTo be only yours, I pray, to be only yoursI know now you're my only hope.
Inuyasha held Kagome to his chest as they moved to soft melodies of the music. She buried her face in his shoulder and closed her eyes. She let his warmth and strength envelope her as a sense belonging washed over her. This is where I belong, in this man’s arms.
Sing to me the song of the stars.Of your galaxy dancing and laughing again.When it feels like my dreams are so farSing to me of the plans that you have for me over again.So I lay my head back down.And I lift my hands and pray To be only yours, I pray, to be only yours.I know now, you're my only hope.
He lost himself in her. The tantalizing sent of lavender combined with the feel of her luscious body pressed against his, made Inuyasha determined never to let her go. This is right. She’s right, and she’s mine.
I give you my destiny.I’m giving you all of me.I want your symphony, singing in all that I amAt the top of my lungs, I'm giving it back.So I lay my head back down.And I lift my hands and prayTo be only yours, I pray, to be only yoursI pray, to be only yoursI know now you're my only hope.hmmmmmmmm, hmmmmmmmm, ooooooooooh
Kagome lifted her head and looked into Inuyasha’s golden eyes. In them she saw his warmth and passion, and all the strength and softness in him. They were no longer moving, but he still held her close, and she could hear his heart beating just as rapidly as her own. She touched his cheek softly with her fingertips and trailed them lower to brush lightly over his lips. His eyes blazed molten gold and he grabbed her hand suddenly. Kagome tilted her head and looked at him curiously. He smiled slyly and captured her lips in searing kiss. Kagome melted into the kiss, melted into him. The kiss ended abruptly, when a sudden roar of applause erupted around the dance floor.
Inuyasha and Kagome stood alone in the middle of the dance floor, which was surrounded by people who were clapping and cheering, completely captivated by the young couple.
Inuyasha smiled into Kagome’s flushed face, and bent his head to whisper in her ear. “I think that’s our cue to leave ne?” She smiled and let him lead her off the dance floor. Stopping only long enough to pay the check, they quickly exited the restaurant and stepped out into the fresh night air. Kagome felt rejuvenated by the cool air on her skin and couldn’t help the laughter that burst from her lips.
“That was either the most embarrassing moment of my life, or the most exciting.” Inuyasha couldn’t help the sensuous smile that formed on his lips, or the husky tone in his voice.
“I’m sure we could think of something more exciting, if we put our minds to work.” He expected her to blush and smile nervously. And was pleasantly surprised she peered at him through lowered lashes, and smiled teasingly.
“Yes…I’m sure something will come to us.”
Inuyasha kissed her warmly, nibbling on her bottom lip. She parted for him, welcoming his silky hot tongue with a soft moan. His body was ignited by her response and he crushed her supple body even closer to his. She shuddered as he trailed his clawed hands lazily down her sides to rest at her waist. He broke the kiss suddenly, giving them both a chance to pull in some much needed air. Inuyasha reached ran his claws through her silky black hair.
“Kagome.” Her name slipped from his lips in a heated whisper.
“Inuyasha, I…” Why am I hesitating? I want him, I crave him. You’ve only just met him. That doesn’t matter to me. Yes it does, you know it does. Inuyasha looked into her stormy blue eyes and saw the uncertainty in them. He sighed and smiled softly.
“It’s okay Kagome. I’m not going to pretend that I’m not disappointed, but I understand. I’m not going to rush you into anything you’re not ready for.” She lowered her eyes and stepped out of his arms, out of his warmth.
“Inuyasha…Goodnight Inuyasha.” He brushed a kiss across her forehead, over her cheek, and on her lips.
“ ‘Night Kagome.” He stood back as she opened the door and walked through. His heart broke when he saw the tear roll down her cheek, just before she closed the door.
