Chapter Seventeen: An epilogue of sorts
“Oi! Be careful with those bastard. You break anything, I’ll kick your ass up and down the hallway.”
Sesshoumaru looked up from the boxes he was juggling and sent an icy glare Inuyasha’s way. He walked across the living room and dropped them unceremoniously on the floor. Stepping over them and ignoring Inuyasha’s threats of disembowelment, he approached the ninjen woman who was currently fighting back a fit of laughter.
“Explain to me why exactly you’re allowing that baka to move in with you?”
Kagome blushed and looked at her boy friend. Inuyasha was kneeling down next to the dropped boxes, mumbling something about bastard brothers and the many uses of crowbars.
“Er, um…He’s good at squishing bugs?”
“Oi wench!”
Inuyasha sat back on his heels and scowled, ears and eyebrows twitching. Kagome gasped in mock horror and ran into the hallway, nearly knocking Miroku and the box he was carrying to the floor. Inuyasha shook his head and stood up, directing his scowl to the still staggering Miroku.
“Feh. Stop messin’ around Miroku. Is that the last one?”
Getting his balance back, Miroku set the box on the floor amongst the others and crossed his arms over his chest.
“I….almost get rundown by a spastic female, and all you care about is your damn boxes?” Inuyasha rolled his eyes.
“Is that the last one?” Miroku mimicked Inuyasha’s eye roll and flopped down on the couch.
“Yes, and I’m fucking glad. When you guys asked if I’d help you move, I thought I’d be carrying boxes down the hallway, not up the stairs from the goddamn basement.”
“Well, you didn’t bother to ask, so I didn’t bother to tell you.”
“Of course that makes sense.”
“No one asked you, Fluffy.”
“No one needed to, hanyou.”
“Are they always like this?”
“Oh no; this is them being civil to one another.”
All eyes turned to stare at the two women standing just inside the doorway. Kagome dragged the other woman by the hand into the middle of the living room.
“Sango my dear. How are you?”
“I’d be a hell of a lot better if you kept your hands in plain sight, Hentai.”
Kagome smiled and laughed as the dejected Miroku held his hands up innocently.
“Inuyasha, this is my friend, Sango. Sango, that’s Inuyasha the baka and his brother Sesshoumaru, aka Fluffy.”
Both brothers snorted indignantly. Sango laughed and nodded at the two.
“It’s nice to meet you both…Miroku if your hand moves one millimeter closer to my ass, it will be removed from your body.”
Miroku jumped back guiltily and rubbed the back of his neck with the offending hand, shifting his weight nervously.
“Ah…well…I think I’d best be going anyway. I’ll uh, see you guys later.”
Miroku kissed Kagome on the cheek and made his goodbyes to Inuyasha and Sesshoumaru. He glanced at Sango and opened his mouth to say something, but only nodded shortly and walked out the door. As soon as he was gone, Kagome crossed her arms and glared at her friend.
“Really Sango, do you have to be that mean to him?”
“He gets what he deserves.”
Inuyasha cleared his throat and eyed the women warily. Catching his brother’s eye he nodded towards the door.
“Eh, come on Sessh. I sense ‘girl talk’ brewing. I think I left a few things in my apartment anyway.”
Sesshoumaru rolled his eyes and followed Inuyasha out of the apartment.
“So that was the Inuyasha Taisho. Not bad. Does your mom know he’s moving in here?”
“Um, yeah. I called her yesterday. She’s a bit….concerned. She insisted that I bring him home with me on Sunday. I really cant blame her you know. Inuyasha and I have only known each other a week, and we’ve only officially been together two days….But I’m sure she’ll come around once she meets him.”
“Of course. As long as you’re happy, that’s all she’ll care about. You are happy, aren’t you?”
Kagome’s eyes widened as she stared curiously at her friend.
“What? Yes! Of course I’m happy. I don’t think I’ve ever been this happy.”
“Great. I’m happy for you then.”
“Sango, are you alright?”
Sango nodded and laughed, although Kagome thought it sounded a bit forced.
“Oh, I’m fine. I’m great.”
“Alright. But you know you can tell me-”
“Hey, I think I hear the guys coming.”
Inuyasha poked his head through the door and blinked. Deciding that ‘girl talk’ was over, he stepped in the rest of the way and threw a folded blanket on the couch.
“Knew I forgot something.”
Sango wrinkled her nose at the ratty red blanket. It had certainly seen better days. The edges were frayed and there were thread bare spots all over it. Inuyasha caught her staring and raised an eyebrow, causing a light blush to cross her cheeks.
“So, what are you doing about Inuyasha’s apartment? Is Misho going to give him his deposit back?”
“Oh, we already have that all figured out. Sesshoumaru has to stay in town a while longer, so he’s going to take over the rest of the month’s rent, and stay in Inuyasha’s apartment. Though….I hate the idea of him wasting all that money, when he’s only going to be here another week or so.”
“Keh. You don’t have to worry about that Kagome. It ain’t exactly gonna break his bank account.”
“As my baka brother has so eloquently stated, there is no need to worry about my financial affairs.”
Kagome nodded and let the subject drop. Looking around the room at all the boxes, boxes filled with his things, she couldn’t help the little rush of excitement that shot through her. Se inched closer to Inuyasha and gave him a sidelong glance.
“So…You’re officially living with me now?”
“Mmhmm.”
She hooked her hands behind her back and brushed her shoulder against his arm. Inuyasha looked down at her with questioning eyes. Kagome smiled coyly and tilted her head.
“So…I’m kinda tired…Aren’t you?”
Inuyasha’s eyes narrowed briefly before growing wide. The corners of his lips quirked in a knowing smile.
“Absolutely.”
The couple stared pointedly at Sango and Sesshoumaru. Sesshoumaru was the first to get the hint, and left the apartment with a nod goodbye. Sango hugged Kagome and promised to visit soon before leaving as well. As soon as the door closed, Inuyasha turned towards Kagome and wrapped his arms around her, pinning her arms to her sides. Kagome giggled as Inuyasha nuzzled her neck.
“So, explain to me why exactly you’re allowing this baka to move in with you?”
Kagome blushed and fidgeted in his hold. Inuyasha nipped at her neck with his fangs, his grip tightening around her.
“Um…Because I love you?”
“Mmm, good answer, now let’s hear the rest.”
“And…ah… Because you love me?”
“And…?”
Kagome wrapped her arms around his waist and buried her face in his chest.
“And because we belong together.”
Inuyasha closed his eyes and kissed the top of her head, sighing into her hair.
“Perfect.”

“And because we belong together.”
Inuyasha closed his eyes and kissed the top of her head, sighing into her hair.
“Perfect.”
