Chapter 11: Mysteries of the Miko
It had been weeks since Rin left the Medical Wing. She had been avoiding Sesshoumaru since the time she brought him to the Reserved Forest sector. She had no idea what made her kiss him back but that Demon Lord sure knew how to make Rin feel things that she had never felt before. Not knowing what those feelings meant she pushed them away whenever she felt them while thinking of him.
"Rin-sama, are you feeling alright?" Mori her assistant of the Research Department asked.
"Hai, Mori-chan don't worry." Rin smiled shaking Sesshoumaru out of her mind. "Any news so far about who this Naraku is?"
"No, there are no records of him as a Lord Demon." Mori shook her head slightly reading on the information in the transparent screen floating in the air. "I figure that he may be just a normal demon or something."
"But as I heard people from Zealot City do not worship any other demons except Demon Lords." Rin replied feeling even more mystified.
"I will check on that." Mori said going back on typing on her key board.
"Hey Rin-chan!"
Rin turned the teasing tone of Bankotsu as he appeared into her department. Rin smiled slightly.
"Bankotsu-sama, so how was the research going on with Jakotsu? Any luck?"
"So far, all we found out is, no one had seen this Naraku before." Bankotsu said putting his hands on his hips smirking. "Even those people from Zealot City had never seen him before. All they do are following orders from this person by the name of Onigumo."
"Onigumo? Who is he?" Rin asked looking over to Mori who shook her head telling her that she had no idea about the information either. "So Onigumo is the demon who orders the citizens of Zealot City and not Naraku?"
"Onigumo is not a demon." Bankotsu said.
Rin inclined her head curiously.
"He's human."
Rin's eyes widened, even Mori stopped typing on her keyboard for a moment before going back to her work again.
"Zealot citizens are listening to a human being?"
"Iie, I have this instinct telling me that Naraku gave Onigumo the authority to give orders."
"I see…"
"As I heard Onigumo came from another colony of human starvation camp on Earth."
"Another?"
"Yes, another camp site not far from Zealot City. A place where the Taijiya used to stay."
"Sango's village?"
"Sango?"
"Sango was from Taijiya Village but I never knew that the village still exist. I mean according to Sango she told me her village had been burned down even before she was born."
"Well, the place now is a starvation camp for most humans who remained on Earth. I was thinking of going over there to check it out and came here to tell you about this to see if you want to go and check the place out with me."
"Of course and I think Sango and Kagome will come with me this time." Rin said standing up. "We will meet you there."
"No problem." Bankotsu turned to leave. "Don't be late."

Sesshoumaru wondered around the hallways alone feeling agitated because Rin had been avoiding him since the time she kissed him back. All this time when he had thought Rin had finally opened up to him. But it seemed that it had been the other way around. However he stopped on his tracks when he saw the person in his mind not far down the hall from him talking to two of her teammates which he knew as Kagome and the another Sango.
With his demon ears he could hear their conversation clearly even they were quite a distance from him.
"So Sango, will you go back to see your village?" Rin asked.
"The last time I was there the only thing that was still standing was the Holy Temple of Midoriko." Sango said sadly. "I was trained as a taijiya there. Of course I will wish to see my home again. Even though it is in ruins, it is after all still my home."
"Well, let's not waste too much time talking in the hall way." Kagome said. "Let's get to our ships and get out butts there. Bankotsu-sama must be on his way."
Rin nodded.
Sesshoumaru watched all three of them moved their separate ways to their bay. Without Rin's knowledge he followed her.

As Rin was about to climbed into her ship, she felt a presence nearby and turned to see Sesshoumaru closed behind her. She slipped from her ladder falling into her ship awkwardly, her butt landed harshly on her seat. Sesshoumaru peered over the roof top entrance and looked down at her with his eyebrows raised.
"That was a weird way to get into your ship." He quipped.
"You scared me!!!" Rin retorted furiously. Trying to safe what dignity was left with her, she quickly straightened herself properly on her seat.
Sesshoumaru moved into her ship gracefully, lifting her up slightly sitting on her seat instead and placed her between his legs. Rin was speechless for a moment at a present position could only shutter as she spoke.
"Wh…what the…hell are you doing Sesshoumaru?"
"I'm going with you." He said simply.
"As I recalled you are not to leave the mother ship." Rin stated tersely. "You gave your word to Kaede-sama."
"I'm sure she will make an exception if she knows that I'm with you. We should be going. You don't want to keep your friends waiting do you?"
Rin grumbled under her breath. That was definitely not her day, she thought as she moved swiftly pushing all the buttons on the ceiling and also on the dashboard to start the engine. Sesshoumaru watched her back as she moved hurriedly with grace as if she lived in this battle ship all her life. Unable to stop himself, he encircled his arms around her tiny waist and felt her stiffened for a moment before proceeding on what she was suppose to do.
Rin's ship speed out into space without delay.
"Sesshoumaru, I can't concentrate…" Rin mumbled when she felt his arm holding onto her waist and felt his warm breath near her neck.
"After all those time you were avoiding me," Sesshoumaru whispered in her ear. "This is to pay back all those times."
Rin turned her head slightly to look into his golden eyes. They were so beautiful, as Rin got herself trapped again when Sesshoumaru leaned closer to her and captured her lips in his. Slowly, Rin closed her eyes feeling lips against hers deepening his kiss pushing his tongue into her mouth as his hands traveled up to her breast but were stopped when Rin captured both his hands in hers.
"I have to pay attention while I drive this ship Sesshoumaru." Rin broke the kissed breathing hard slightly, opening her eyes to look at him, her face flushed from the intimacy. "I'm sorry I avoided you. I was just afraid this may happen again."
"Don't you want it Rin." Sesshoumaru asked his voice low and husky, their faces still only inches apart.
"I don't know…" Rin closed her eyes briefly before she continued. "To tell the truth I had never felt this way before and I don't know what it is. I just want to be sure what it means before I…"
Her voice trailed off when Sesshoumaru buried his face at the curve of her neck. She could feel his fangs grazing the hollow of her neck and she became tense. However she relaxed when she realized that he was only kissing her neck.
"Sesshoumaru?"
There was a paused before he spoke.
"I had never felt this way before too."
Rin blinked and wondered whether this feeling was what they called love. She had heard fairy tales about princess falling in love with the charming prince in a white horse. They were fairy tales which were told to her when she was younger by an old mid-wife who had stayed on Earth for many years and became a mid-wife in Eternal in her older years. She had delivered her when her mother was in labour. But to think she was falling for a demon and not any demon but a Demon Lord nearly made her laugh at the absurdity. It was impossible and there was no way Sesshoumaru could fall in love with a human being.
Rin leaned back on Sesshoumaru when he lifted his head away from her neck. She sighed inwardly wondering about what she had thought earlier. Love? She would never know. All she knew that she sure felt secure and comfortable with him.
She turned around to him smiling slightly and rested her head on the curve of his neck putting her ship on auto-cruise as Sesshoumaru tightened his embrace around her waist when he felt Rin's hands caressing his arm lightly. He turned his head slightly and buried his nose on her hair and inhaled.
Strawberries and peaches, the scent he was sure he will never get bored of.

Kaede-sama eyes widened when she saw the Shikon No Tama glow even brighter pink since Rin had informed her that her team and Bankotsu had left for Earth again for more research and this time Sesshoumaru had followed along to help.
"This light?" Kaede wondered out loud. "Never had the Shikon No Tama produced this much energy and power."
________________________________________________________________ _______________
"What is he doing here?" Bankotsu bellowed when he saw Sesshoumaru walking next to Rin.
"Bankotsu-sama, Sesshoumaru is here to help." Rin replied calmly.
"He?" Bankotsu stared at Sesshoumaru murderously.
Sesshoumaru void from all emotions ignored Bankotsu as he looked around the village which Rin had told him it was used to be Taijiya Village. The place looked awfully familiar to him, as if he had been here before many hundred of years ago. Maybe he did, he would not remember for most memories hundreds of years back where unpleasant memories which he never want to remember.
"Let's not get into any fights alright." Kagome said sensibly. "We had things to investigate."
"Well we can split up to talk to the people around here." Sango suggested. "We can ask them if they know who Onigumo is."
"Right, well Sesshoumaru and I will go this way." Rin said knowing that, her teammates wouldn't want to be near him. "And…"
"I am coming with you." Bankotsu snapped. There was no way he will let Rin going off alone with a demon. "Kagome and Sango can go the opposite direction."
Sesshoumaru glared at Bankotsu for butting into his and Rin's relationship, but when Rin started walking deeper into the starvation camp he quickly followed with Bankotsu in his wake to his annoyance.
Most humans around the camp scattered and ran into their battered homes when they saw Sesshoumaru approaching. Rin frowned slightly at the situation. There wasn't any ways for her to ask them if they were to run at the sight of them.
"Looks like Sesshoumaru aren't much help." Bankotsu sneered.
"You aren't much help either." Sesshoumaru replied tonelessly.
Rin was too occupied in her own thoughts that she didn't hear Sesshoumaru and Bankotsu was jumping down each other throats. Something ahead had caught her attention as she approached it slowly. Sesshoumaru narrowed his eyes when he saw Rin walking away from them and followed suit. She suddenly looked all dazed as she walked on as if nothing around her mattered to her.
"Rin…" Sesshoumaru called reaching out to her but was stopped by Bankotsu.
"Don't touch her."
"I would love to see you try to stop me." Sesshoumaru growled getting angrier by the minute at his attitude. He didn't want to fight because he knew that Rin wouldn't like it.
"Sesshoumaru…" Rin whispered as she walked on. "Bankotsu-sama, there is something right ahead of us."
They turned to where Rin was staring. Sesshoumaru's eyes widened, he never knew any human made shelters still stand on Earth. But what he was looking at was sure a very old looking building of some sort built by humans.
"The Temple of Midoriko…" Rin said in a soft voice. "Sango told me this temple had been here for hundred of years."
Without waiting for an answer from Sesshoumaru or Bankotsu Rin made her way to the temple. Sesshoumaru and Bankotsu had no choice but to follow her. However, when Sesshoumaru moved closer to the temple he felt as if his demon powers had been extracted from his body. Sesshoumaru looked down at his hands feeling as if an electric current had just went through his entire body.
A barrier? He wondered and looked up the temple. Or is it Holy powers?
Even though his body was bursting with unknown pain he went inside with Rin and Bankotsu. He was not going to leave Rin's side at this place no matter what.
Rin had no idea what pulled her into the temple, but it felt like as if someone was calling her. When she entered the temple there was a huge hole in the middle of the hall. Rin looked down wondering how deep it was and saw there was no end to it for the hole was pitch black though some odd pink light like fire flies flew around.
She looked at the pink lights in wondered with her head inclined. They were flying all above the huge hole until the high ceiling. Rin looked up and saw the slightly shattered coloured glass with lights shining down her face.
What is that light? Rin wondered and all of a sudden she felt light headed.
"Rin daijebu?" Bankotsu asked when he saw Rin staring up the ceiling in a daze.
What is this feeling? Rin thought shaking her head.
She suddenly felt sad and betrayed. Most of all she felt really tired. She suddenly felt tired of all the wars and battles among humans and demons. All she wanted was to have peace. She wanted the war to stop.
These are not my feelings! Rin shouted inside her head shutting her eyes tight turning away from the light.
"Rin?" Sesshoumaru called getting worried by her strange behavior.
Rin blinked finally and turned to Sesshoumaru when she heard his voice though before she could turn completely to look at him. She heard Bankotsu shouted.
"Shimata!!!!"
Sesshoumaru turned towards the entrance door to see a huge explosion took place as he jumped swiftly away from harms way and so did Bankotsu. Rin jumped too but she ended up jumping into the hole.
Sesshoumaru hadn't been taken off guard before stared at the incident unbelievingly. Why didn't he sense it before? He knew the answer was his mind. He was too occupied at why Rin's was acting so strangely that he had totally forgotten to pay more attention to the surroundings.
Rin? Damn!!!!
Moving speedily to the hole he looked down. Bankotsu crawled over to the hole at the same time.
"RIN!!!!" They both shouted together.
Sesshoumaru was ready to jump down after her but was thrown back by an unknown force. He frowned at the barrier holding up his hand on an invisible shield. Bankotsu tried the same and was also thrown back.
"What the hell is going on?" Bankotsu cried holding up both his hands touching on the invisible shield.
"This place is protected by an invisible force." Sango said coming up towards them with Kagome behind her.
"What was the explosion all about?" Bankotsu shouted at them.
"What explosion?" Sango asked looking at him bewilderedly.
"There was an explosion at the entrance door." Bankotsu explained almost losing his patience. "Didn't you girls hear it?"
"Iie…" Sango said softly. "I think you must have heard…"
"I didn't only heard," Bankotsu shouted. "We saw!!!"
"There was fire around here…" Sesshoumaru spoke after getting over the shock of losing Rin.
Sango sighed softly. "It had been years the last time the demons tried to burn this temple down but was unsuccessful. The temple still stands. Maybe the explosion you heard was the repeated illusions that had been happening for hundreds of years."
"Illusions?" Sesshoumaru and Bankotsu asked at the same time. They turned to look at each other shooting daggers into each other eyes for a moment before turning away again.
"Ever since I was born here," Sango begin the story. "Midoriko the most powerful miko alive hundreds of years ago used to stay here. The temple was actually built not for her. Hundreds of years ago this temple was called Holy Temple of Saint. The villages came here often to make wishes and pray. It gave them hope. Midoriko had always been there to protect them and they think that she was a protector sent by God. However, she died in a horrible incident and soon they changed this temple and named it after her as a memory of her."
"What is with this hole in the middle of the hall?" Bankotsu asked.
"She died here and created this hole of eternity." Sango said. "They say it just goes on forever, but no one was able to go near it actually."
"Rin fell inside." Sesshoumaru finally said.
"What?" Sango turned towards the hole. "That is impossible. I mean…"
"How did this Midoriko died?" Bankotsu asked suddenly feeling that there was more to the story Sango had just said.
"I don't know." Sango replied honestly. "I mean, there wasn't much detail about her actually, but I do recall there was something in this temple which they say will give human peace."
"Something?" Sesshoumaru asked.
"The Empire of the Sun took it. It is sort of a mechanism which only Midoriko could operate."
"A powerful Miko which people don't talk about, there must be something about her that they are hiding." Bankotsu wondered out loud. "I mean if she is such a powerful Miko I am sure she will become a legend a history which will never be forgotten by many."
Sesshoumaru turned to look at Bankotsu remembering Kaede's words, about a story on how Shikon No Tama was created. Would this miko, Midoriko be the same one as Kaede had mentioned?
But who cares? Most important right now is to get Rin out the hole safely.

Rin felt herself floating when she unintentionally fell head first into the dark hole. Upside down Rin stared at her surroundings and was surprised that the place shone with bright white light with tiny pink lights floating around her.
Where am I? She wondered feeling herself whirling upright again and stood on her two feet on an invisible floor. She looked like she was floating on some cloud.
"There you are!"
She heard a male voice said.
"Who's there?" Rin exclaimed suddenly feeling jumpy as she looked around the white surrounding and saw no one.
"It's me."
"Who are you?" Rin cried searching all around her frantically at the unknown voice.
"Don't you remember me?"
"Where are you?" Rin asked finally when she failed to see him.
"I am right here!"
Rin turned around swiftly and suddenly everything went dark. When she woke up again she was lay on soft green grass on top of a cliff. Slowly she sat up and looked around the surrounding to find herself on the same cliff side in her dream before but this time strange pink lights were floating all around her and the place. She stood up slowly and felt slight cold breeze blew around her blowing her hair softly.
"There you are."
Rin whirled around to face the interloper and her eyes widened with surprised when she saw the same demon from her dream. The same demon with silver hair streaked with gold and a golden sparkled wing adorned at the side of each eyes.
"I had been waiting for hundreds of years."
"Ukaran?" Rin whispered.
"Finally we can be together again."
"What are you talking about?" Rin stammered slightly feeling strangely scared that the strange demon was coming closer to her every second.
"They took you away from me." He continued suddenly turning angry. "We could be so happy together forever, but they have to take you away from me."
"Please, don't come any closer." Rin choked backing away though was unable to when she realized her feet was paralyzed on the spot.
"I had been waiting always," Ukaran continued as his distance became closer to Rin reaching out to her.
"Stay away!!!!" Rin cried getting more frantic now.
"I will not let you go again!" Ukaran replied ignoring Rin's pleas and embraced her.
Suddenly an unknown feeling and image burst into Rin's mind as she closed her eyes…
Rin's Strange Flashes…
First flash….
The miko in her dreams, Midoriko was standing by the cliff as the wind blew her hair around her face gently. She held up her bow an arrow aiming at Ukaran, her face serious and cool. Ukaran was floating a few feet above the air from her. Unlike the Ukaran Rin had seen he was glaring furiously at Midoriko. Before she could shoot Ukaran flew away in a flash.
Second Flash
Midoriko walked into the temple and heard noises at the back of a huge pillar. Curious she went over to investigate and saw Ukaran hurt and unconscious on the floor. Her face changing from gentle and kind to serious and cold she pulled her bow and arrow at him again. However she wilted slightly when she saw Ukaran lying on the floor hurt and somewhat looking innocent and gentle. She lowered her bow and arrow and knelt down next to him.
Third Flash
Midoriko was fighting but there were too many demons around. She was standing next to the cliff side when she was outnumbered and she fell off the cliff. Not believing her fate she shut her eyes tight hoping it was only a bad dream, though she knew that the hard earth beneath will soon reach her. But the ground did not reach her and suddenly she felt like she was lifted up into the air. When she opened her eyes slowly she saw herself in the arms of Ukaran and their faces were only inches apart.
End of Flashes.
"Open your eyes!!!!"
Someone shouted.
Rin gasped and pushed Ukaran away. She sank onto the grass taking deep breaths heavily. She looked up at the silver and gold haired demon and before her eyes the demon changed. Her eyes widened to see his silver streaked with gold hair turning dark. His beautiful blue coloured eyes which Rin had just noticed had turned red, the golden sparkled wing at each side of his eyes disappeared. His white and golden clothes turned navy blue and black.
"Wh… who are you?" Rin stammered.
That strange dark demon disappeared before her eyes and in turned someone spoke behind her.
"Why do you have Midoriko's light?"
Rin turned around to face the person and saw someone with dark hair and brown eyes, with normal human clothing standing a few feet away from her.
"Who are you? Who was that demon?"
"I am Onigumo and that was my master Naraku."
Rin blanched.
"You shouldn't be here." He continued ignoring Rin's discomfort.
"Why are you helping a demon?"
"It is Midoriko's wish that I am helping Naraku."
"What? Naraku had been selling HUMANS to demons as slaves! And you are helping him?"
"Do you think it is that simple as selling human slaves to other demons?"
Rin frowned slightly standing up on her feet.
"I don't understand." Rin whispered.
"We are doing something that Midoriko wanted for a long time. It is not only selling humans away. We are trying to change this horrible place."
"But selling humans are not going to help! You are actually kidnapping skilled combatants in the galaxy! How will that help when there are times when you need us to get into battle?"
"All you think about is battle."
Rin inclined her head.
"Midoriko had always thought about peace. She never wanted to go into battle even though she was the best miko warrior on Earth."
"What do you mean?"
"Peace," Onigumo replied turning away from Rin walking off. "It is not hard to understand."
"Wait!" Rin cried running after him. "How do I get myself out of here?"
Onigumo took no heed to her and walked on.
"I said WAIT!!!!" Rin shouted but tripped while running after him. She fell to the ground again and everything went dark around her.
Rin felt her whole body ached when she regained her bearings. Slowly opening her eyes she found herself on the cold concrete floor of the temple. She sat up quickly.
"How did I get here?" Rin wondered out loud. Slowly she turned towards the dark hole. She could still see pink lights all over it. Shivering slightly at the ordeal she ran out of the temple as quickly as she could.
________________________________________________________________ _______________
"We have to get back to report that Rin's missing." Kagome insisted.
"I will not leave this place until we find her." Sesshoumaru growled.
"Look Sesshoumaru, when we go back to the headquarters and informed the rest. We will have a bigger search party to look for Rin." Sango explained as patiently as she could to him.
"We are wasting time here!!!" Bankotsu snapped.
"Why are we wasting time?"
The four of them suddenly heard Rin's voice behind them.
"Rin!" Kagome and Sango cried running to their best friend and threw their arms around her neck.
Sesshoumaru wanted to do the same as he watched them but hold in the feeling he had inside. He will wait till they are back in Rin's ship.
"Gosh!!!" Rin choked when Kagome and Sango squeezed her in a tight hug. "I'm alright, but if you both continue strangling me, I won't be."
"Opps sorry." Kagome giggled letting her go and so did Sango.
"So what happened?" Sango asked anxiously.
"Everything that happened is plain weird." Rin said. "I don't want to talk about it just yet. Let's get back to Eternal first."
She turned to Sesshoumaru and smiled apologetically for causing him to worry about her disappearance. They walked to Rin's ship quietly. Sesshoumaru got in first and soon followed by Rin as she took her place in front of him like before.
"Gomen Sessho…." Rin's voice was caught in her throat when she felt Sesshoumaru's arm encircled her waist tightly with his face buried at the back of her head. "Sesshoumaru?"
"Don't you dare leave my sight again."
"Gomen…"
Rin turned her slightly to face him and saw his golden eyes staring gently back at her. They were so unlike the times when he looked at others or when there are people around them. Those eyes were always cold and emotionless though he always showed his emotions openly to her whenever their alone. Rin smiled.
"Let's get back, I will tell you what happened when we reach Eternal." Rin said softly.
Sesshoumaru nodded lowering his head towards hers. Rin's eyes widened for a moment when she saw Sesshoumaru was about to kiss her again, but when his lips touched hers, all worries Rin had disappeared and she slowly closed her eyes, falling deeply in the kiss. Timidly for the first time, Rin plunged her tongue into Sesshoumaru's mouth.
When Sesshoumaru felt how shyly Rin tongue touched his, he couldn't help himself but deepened the kissed as he played his tongue around with hers. His hands roamed freely around her body and one of them cupped her breast gently. Rin moaned softly as she encircled her arm around his neck tangling them with his silver hair.
Sesshoumaru felt himself hardened as his hand caressed her round breast and tasting every corner of her sweetness. He couldn't believe that he was loosing his mind to his little nymph. He was a Taiyoukai and was usually very controlled of his feelings. But this intoxicating human before him was making him loosing his control.
What am I doing? Rin thought losing mind and control as Sesshoumaru touch her most intimate places drawing her to heated sensations. When she felt Sesshoumaru's hand traveling down to her pants she knew that it was time to stop.
"Sesshoumaru, we can't…" Rin whispered breaking away from the kiss. "Please…"
"Why?" Sesshoumaru asked hoarsely as he made another attempt to kiss her, but she moved away slightly and his kiss landed on her cleavage. He felt her shivered slightly and smiled. Slowly he kissed his way up to her neck and then back down to her cleavage again, with one of his free hand he tried to push the material away from her breast but Rin's hand grip his.
"We have to stop before we go too far Sesshoumaru," Rin said softly opening her eyes, her feelings in turmoil.
"We have already gone too far…" Sesshoumaru whispered back his lips still on her soft flesh.
Rin felt the tip of his tongue roaming around her cleavage going lower. Slowly she close her eyes again falling into heightened feeling, but knowing that if this continues, they wouldn't stop at all course and quickly she held up her hand to push Sesshoumaru away gently.
"Please, we have to stop!" Rin said again.
Sesshoumaru groaned inwardly and looked up. He watched Rin's half closed eyes as she stared back at him. He smiled slightly knowing that he had made her feel exultant. Rin returned the smiled and closed her eyes.
"Just hold on to me…" Rin whispered and leaned back down on the curve of his neck again. "I feel really safe with you."
Sesshoumaru tightened his hold around her waist and leaned back on the seat taking a deep breath. He must calm down and there was no way he could with Rin so close to him. He would have taken her in this ship if she didn't have stopped him, but he had a feeling he would regret deeply if he destroy that innocence she hold so protectively.
When he first met her, all he wanted her was because of lust. But knowing her deeply, his feelings had changed and now he knows that it was not only lust that had made him wanted Rin so badly. It was something else and he had no idea what it was.
