Prologue: Going Home
Kagome Higurashi hated confrontations of any kind. Her medium length black tresses blew in the wind along with her short green pleated skirt. Huffing slightly, she silently realized what she hated even more was the stubborn hanyou sitting up in the branches above her, stubbornly refusing to listen to reason. He sat staring into the distance, his white ears pulled down into his long silvery hair. Golden eyes were glazed over as he tried to ignore the sniping and whining of the girl under his tree. Angry brown eyes stared up into the branches, as full lips pulled into a pout.
"I have to go home, Inuyasha! My cousin from America is coming to visit!" came the girlish screech from beneath the branches of the God Tree.
"Keh. At least it aint another test, wench."
"Well...I have one of those too."
"Keh. How long you going to be gone this time, wench?" came the dry reply from within the branches.
"Two weeks, and quit calling me wench!"
"In that case, wench, don't forget my Ramen and dried potatoes. I'll come to fetch you at the end of the week."
"But Inuyasha, I said two weeks!"
"I said a week, there's still shards to find, or did you forget that, wench?"
"I'm not a wench! And I need two weeks!"
"Fine. A week and a half bitch."
"Sit boy!!!!!"
"Oof!" came the startled grunt as that slenderly muscled form came crashing down from the branches.
He landed face first in the dirt, growling as he tried to rise to gain his retaliation. Three figures watched the confrontation with varying degrees of amusement and concern. The tall man took up the lazy pose of leaning on his staff, violet-blue eyes dancing in outright laughter. His short black hair blew gently in the breeze, a few soft tendrils escaping the thong that held them back. Beside him stood a young woman of medium height, her dark brown eyes barely reflecting concern for her friends. Her slender hands tangled in the cord to the large boomerang upon her back, as she looked to her socked and sandaled feet.
"Kagome, do you think you could bring another one of those flower magazines you brought back last time?" The woman, Sango, injected into the ongoing argument quietly.
"Sure, Sango. I can bring home other magazines too. Anything you want Miroku?"
"Could you bring me back a...never mind..."without completing his sentence, he'd send a shifty glance to Sango, before smiling to Kagome.
“Kagome, will you bring me back some pocky? Cause Inuyasha ate all mine.” came the childish voice from a ball of red fur that rocketed into Kagome's arms.
She looked down at the kitsune child with a tender smile on her face. Shippo was more than a friend to her, in ways he was like her child. She leaned down to nuzzle her cheek against the young boy's her heart melting as his tiny arms wrapped tightly around her neck and turquoise eyes filled with tears.
“Please don't leave me Kagome!”
“I've gotta go, Shippo. I wont be any longer than two weeks though, I promise!” Kagome replied, burrowing her nose into the kitsune's auburn hair, her hands rubbing his back comfortingly..
“I said a week and a half Kagome!”
“Shut up, Inuyasha! You aren't my boss!”
“Listen bitch, if you aren't here by the end of a week and a half, I'll come and drag you back.”
“Sit boy!”
Handing a whimpering Shippo over to Sango, Kagome would toss her bag over her shoulder before looking to the rising hanyou once more. Her brown eyes glinted with an anger to match his, and before he even opened his mouth and took a step she pounced.
“Sit! Sit! Sit! Sit! Sit! Sit! Sit! Sit! Sit!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
Inuyasha's body made a crater in the ground, the only sounds coming from within were the groans of the hanyou. Kagome took this opportunity to run towards the Bone Eater's Well. Poised on the edge, she turned at the scream of her name. Defiantly waggling her fingers to the hanyou, she'd slip inside and let the time-slip take her back home.
