Chapter Three: Untold Truths
"He's a what?"
"Mom!"
"Kagome, we can't lie to her. If she is going to be living here at the shrine, she has to know."
"Know what?"
"Keh. Kagome travels through the shrine well, to Feudal Japan to help me find shards of the Shikon Jewel.."
"She does what?"
"Inuyasha!"
"Shut up wench."
"All right, all right. Kagome, take Inuyasha to the main house and fix him some Ramen. Lokelani dear, sit down please." Mrs. Higurashi interjected before yet another argument broke out.
"No. If you're going to tell her, then Inuyasha and I will stay here and fill her in on what you can't!" Kagome said firmly, sitting down in a chair.
"Keh." was Inuyasha's only comment as he dropped into the last chair.
"Okay, so let me get this straight so far...Inuyasha is a hanyou from Feudal Japan? And Kagome travels through the shrine well to help him gather shards of the Shikon Jewel, right?"
Lokelani sat back against the chair and grinned, "Too cool, but what's a hanyou?"
"It's someone born of a demon parent and a human parent."
"No way! So what kind of hanyou are you Inuyasha?"
"Dog." came Kagome's reply with a giggle as she reached up to take Inuyasha's cap off.
"Wench!"
Lokelani squealed as she dived over the table and straight into Inuyasha's lap. Her perfectly manicured hands would reach up to rub his ears, a look of pleased wonder on her face. Inuyasha scowled, and pushed her from his lap to the floor, growling low under his breath. Kagome and Lokelani burst into giggles. Struggling to pull herself into her chair, Lokelani would motion her hands in slight circles.
"I know there's more to this tale, so let's hear it."
"Well, it started with this priestess Kikyo and a bandit Onigumo. Onigumo so desired Kikyo that he gave up his body and soul to hordes of demons. They all formed together into a very powerful half demon known as Naraku. Kikyo and Inuyasha were led to believe they deceived each other, resulting in Kikyo pinning Inuyasha to a tree with her magic arrow, and then Kikyo's death. She took the Shikon Jewel with her to her grave. Somehow it ended up in my body. One day I was helping Souta find our cat, Buyo, when something pulled me into the well. When I came out on the other side, I came upon Inuyasha pinned to the God Tree--"
"You mean the tree here in the shrine?"
"Yes. When the centipede that pulled me into the well attacked, out of pure desperation I released the arrow that was pinning Inuyasha."
"Don't forget to tell her you're Kikyo's reincarnation, wench."
"I was getting to that, if you'd be quiet. Anyway, during the battle, the Shikon jewel was ripped from my side. During the next battle, I accidentally shattered the Jewel with an arrow, so now I'm helping Inuyasha find the Jewel shards."
"Wow...And to think I thought Japan was going to be boring. So when do we get to go to Feudal Japan?" Lokelani grinned, leaning forward with her elbows on the table.
"Well....You can't....Inuyasha and I are the only ones that can travel through the well."
"Aw, can I at least try?" Lokelani said, her slightly painted mouth bowing down into a pout.
"Keh, its not worth the try wench. We already have Kagome running around."
"Hey!"
"Aw, come on, if I get through I won't be the least bit of trouble! I promise!"
"I think you should let her try, after all, no one else has tried, have they? So you don't know if she can't or not." Mrs. Higurashi said quite seriously.
"No, I aint carting about another wench."
"I'm not a wench!" the two cousins cried out at the same exact time.
"Keh."
"Inuyasha please? Since my father died, I've been yearning for some adventures! Now that my mom's passed on, I am finally free!"
"No, wench."
"Please Inuyasha! I'll do anything! Anything, I swear!"
"It won't hurt to let her try. Afraid she might be a better with a sword that you are?" Mrs. Higurashi goaded, earning a blush from Lokelani and a growl from Inuyasha.
"Keh, no wench can outdo my Tetsusagia."
"Okay, how about this? A duel. No using Tetsusagia's techniques. Just a fair sword fight?" suggested a wildly grinning Kagome.
"Hell no, wench!"
"It's fine with me, if dog-boy will fight me, but he needs to know something first."
"What?"
"I'm a hanyou too...."
They were looking at her like she'd grown three heads, and she didn't like it. Snarling slightly, Lokelani would stand and move to stare out the window, her hands grasping the counter so hard her knuckles turned white. Inuyasha came up behind her to rest a claw on her shoulder.
"So you were just playing with us?"
"Yeah. I didn't want to just come out and say it."
"But..."
"So, dog-boy. Gonna fight me?"
"You betcha!"
"Hey!"
Kagome was firmly ignored as the two hanyou moved to ready themselves for the battle.
