Chapter Six: Illusions part one
Lokelani couldn't quite help the smile that crossed her face as she rose her face to the moon. Her lashes shadowed her cheeks as her smoky eyes closed, a vibrant pulse starting at her toes and traveling over her form. Slender hands would curl slightly, her nails growing into delicate claws. They'd pop and snap as she flexed them, before letting them rest at her side. Long, raven tresses took on a silky blue-black sheen, falling to her waist in gentle waves. A single stripe of silver ran from the center of her bangs to the tips of her tresses, about two inches thick in size. Raven lashes took on silver tips that curled naturally. Her lashes slowly rose to reveal dual colored eyes. A single smoky gray orb, and the second a burnished golden orb. She'd sniff delicately, before looking up into the trees. A sad, almost wistful smile crossed her lips.
“You can come down now, Kagome and Inuyasha.” She'd whisper.
Both of them scrambled down the tree, looking at her as if she'd grown two heads. She'd stare back, her eyes mostly trained on Inuyasha's. He finally slid his gaze away and shook his head, slipping his hands into his hoari as he did so. Kagome crossed her arms over her chest, hips cocking as she canted her head to her cousin...
“How?” was all she asked.
“Well, Mom is human, obviously....Dada he's full youkai.” She'd rush on after delivering that blow, her hands flying delicately as she spoke, “There are only a few hundred hanyou left in the world. Youkai have killed them in most European and Asian countries....The States is usually where we gather, but even then we have to wear concealment charms....”
“Whoa hey....there are more hanyou out there?” Inuyasha broke in.
“Yes....only a few hundred or so....We're not a generally liked race....” Lokelani tried to smile, but it came out as more of a grimace which only widened as Kagome started shaking her head. Inuyasha read Lokelani's body movements, sliding into her way as she started to dash by them, the barest of smirks on his lips.
“Out with it wench.”
“What's there to say? Kagome's cousin to a hanyou and obviously she can travel with one, be in love with one, but when it comes to having one in the family, it's just downright wrong. I was obviously wrong in coming here. Don tried to tell me I shouldn't have trusted Akira when she said that I'd be welcome here. All you humans know how to do is lie!”
“Stop it Loke!!! Just stop it!! You can't drop this on us and expect a favorable response!”
“I told you, isnt that enough? You weren't supposed to acutally see me! How would I know you were up in the trees mating with Inuyasha??”
“Wha?!”
“We weren't mating, wench...Just...petting...” The most adorable blush lit Inuyasha's cheeks, despite the glare he gave Lokelani.
“Doesn't smell like you were just petting....”
“Ahh! Just drop it!” Kagome screamed, then screamed again when her mom presses a hand to Kagome's shoulder.
“Aunt Akira!”
“Hello Loke. I take it that they aren't taking your being a hanyou well?” Akira would reply with a smile.
“No....Inuyasha's taking it fine...Kagome's not. I guess seeing it is worse than hearing it.”
“You looked human when we picked you up! And through the fight with Inuyasha!!”
“I had my concealment charm then...”
“What are these...concealment charms ....wench?”
“Its something that makes me look completely human....Only other hanyou and youkai could see me as what I am. Basically....concealment charms are only an illusion to help hanyou and most youkai live in the modern world.”
“I cannot believe this....Mom, why didn't you tell me? I mean, I thought she was joking!”
“I made her promise not to tell you, but I thought if you found out, you'd be a little more considerate considering the company you keep.”
“Loke, that's not funny. It's completely different!”
“How is it different Kagome? You talk to him, you eat with him, you sleep with him, you walk with him....How am I any different from he? Suddenly, the martyr of hanyou can't stand the fact that she has one in her family. That's bullshit. You consider the people from the Feudal Era your family too, don't you Kagome? Only Inuyasha isn't your family, he's more to you. That's really hypocritical! And here I thought you might have been someone I could trust! Well take your smiles, and whatever else you have to say and shove it!!!”
With the final hiss of those words, Lokelani would shove past Kagome and Inuyasha, ignoring Akira's arms stretched out for a hug. She'd storm past a bug eyed Gramps and Souta...past the well house and into the forests behind. Everything to her was just a blur of tears, which she wiped away as quickly as they fell. When she finally came to a stop, she looked around in complete confusion. She hadn't meant to wander this far into the forests, but on an afterthought shrugged the worry away. The farther away from Kagome she got, the better. Out of a tiny pouch at her waist, she'd dig out her two rose combs, fixing her hair by touch alone. As soon as both combs were in place, the silver streak in her hair disappeared, as did the silver tips to her lashes. Her claws retracted into the delicate hands they had been, which rose to cover her face as the girl sank to her knees.
“It is like an illusion...” spoke Inuyasha from the treeline.
“Yeah...It is...”
“Look, Kagome is just as upset as you are. Give her some time...”
“Easy for you to say....”
“Look wench, I'm trying to be nice here....”
“Well drop the act...”
“There's another reason I followed you...” His voice became shy, slightly nervous.
“What?” She snapped back.
“Could you help get me a concealment charm?”
Lokelani looked up at him in surprise as he stepped through the trees, to crouch beside her. He smiled charmingly, before reaching out with a gentle claw to brush her tears from her cheek. Then, he'd slip his hands into the sleeves of his hoari and sit cross legged watching her.
“I guess I can...It's the least I can do...I mean that hat Akira makes you wear has to hurt your ears...”
“Keh. Hurt isn't the word, wench.”
Both hanyou laughed, before standing at the same time. Heads slammed together, followed by cursing and more laughter...Jerking to thier feet quickly, they could'nt quite avoid a second collision. This one followed with a wail as one of Lokelani's combs fell from her hair....broken in half...
