InuYasha Fan Fiction ❯ Destiny's Ploy ❯ ... but I can promise forever ( Chapter 30 )
[ Y - Young Adult: Not suitable for readers under 16 ]
Kikyo packed her belongings in a calmed way. She keep watching Naraku out of the corner of her eye making sure he was still sitting on the couch trying to take care of his injuries. It had been half an hour since Inuyasha had called her and she hadn't still seen a sign of Bankotsu. `He has to be here soon… otherwise, my plan will be ruined… it's the last thing I have to do before I get free of all these things, Shinta won't scare me anymore.' Kikyo thought, it was the last thing she needed to remember. How she convinced Naraku to kill Shinta so Inuyasha would pay more attention to her but she never knew the price she had to pay would be that high. `It was supposed to be just another year besides Inuyasha's bet but my addiction, my dammed addiction drove me to this regretful moment.' Kikyo closed her suitcase with anger and turned to look at her boyfriend with a fake smile plastered in her smile.
“I'm done sweetie, it's almost time…” she mentioned as she sat next to him, Naraku was taking off his bandages and replacing them for new ones. “I'll help.”
“I can do it myself.” He said and Kikyo moved her hands away, she walked towards the window of his apartment to observe the whole city for one last time. “I don't want to go.”
“Me neither.” She immediately said although it wasn't remotely true, she turned to look back at him. “Our whole lives are here… your business is here and without this city I'll feel empty.”
“Shinta's grave is here.” Naraku mumbled; Kikyo heard him loud and clear, enough for her to let out an exasperating sigh.
“You said you will never miss him as long as I was with you so… now you're just going to start whining again?” she asked annoyed, Naraku stood up and walked next to the window.
“Remember that I am the one who will take you out of here so you better start treating me with some respect… you know you're my girl but I don't want to hear you talking to me like that ever again, understood?” Kikyo pursed her lips in irritation and nodded.
`I'm much better without Inuyasha… he was just… a distraction, nothing important… as my mother used to say… get rid of old things and new things will come in abundance.' Kikyo thought with determination.

“Bankotsu, I really don't need to be here… you can just leave me alone in the car and have Renkotsu watch me over, seriously I won't try a thing.” Bankotsu laughed and took out his wallet and looked at a picture.
“Kagome, do you know who this is?” She wasn't paying much attention, she glanced lightly at the picture but then she looked again at it, attentively and saw someone very familiar.
“That's… that's my mother and she's with… with…”
“Shinta, it's the last picture they had together before you were born… lovely isn't it? It's a perfect picture of what your family would have been; I believe you should thank Naraku for stealing away your family.” Kagome closed her eyes to stop the tears from spraying out and then looked at him hatefully.
“My mother…” she sniffed and took a deep breath. “My mother always says, things happen for a reason… and all those significant events in my life, my father leaving my mother, my father dying, my mother marrying someone else to forget about my father… they all happened because everything had a purpose and although I'm not very sure what it is, I'm very sure it was worth all the pain this has caused.”
“You're very sweet darling, move along… we have things to do,” Bankotsu tilted his head and whispered on her ear. “I promise I will do something that will make you very, very happy.” He kissed her cheek and kept on pointing her ribs with his gun.
Kagome walked at the pace Bankotsu was pushing her, she wanted to find Inuyasha already so she could finally get away from everything that surrounded her and maybe, just maybe she could gather the courage to talk and ask him the reason he had dumped her. `Inuyasha didn't leave me, I left him because I thought he was going to leave me… but what if he was telling the truth? Maybe he did have to leave for a few weeks and he was very busy… but what if he really did meant to hurt me and I was smart enough to call it off before I never heard of him again? I could spend an eternity wondering what really was supposed to happen but if I don't dare to talk to him… I'll never know the truth.' Kagome felt the firearm moving away from her but felt Bankotsu's hand around her arm, tightening his grip. She heard a few gunshots and closed her eyes. Kagome opened them again and found three people dead, two men and a small girl. She had never felt so sad in her entire life.
“How could you?” Kagome asked choking her sobs down her throat.
“Oh, please… you didn't even know them. Why feel sad?” Kagome let a few tears run down her cheeks.
“You're a heartless monster Bankotsu; remember that every time you even think about shooting someone.” She said and he laughed pleasurably.
They kept on walking; Bankotsu and Kagome walked in the front while Renkotsu and Kykotsu were behind them, guarding their backs. Kagome was forced to skip the elevator and walk with them through the stairs to reach the last floor.
“We're here!” Bankotsu yelled and kicked the door open.
The first thing Bankotsu noticed was a white helicopter motionless on the ground. Then he saw Inuyasha, who had been there, waiting for him for a long time. Miroku and Inuyasha had managed to get to the last floor without anyone noticing, they had used the emergency stairs which people rarely used thanks to their laziness and the wonderful invention called elevator. Bankotsu smiled at the sight of his two “friends” waiting for him, he pushed Kagome in front of him and pointed his weapon at her head. Kagome wanted to close her eyes so badly, so much so she could imagine her own safety but at when she saw him. Inuyasha looking at her with his eyes filled with concern, love and happiness all at the same time. Kagome couldn't help but to return the look at stare at him with the same intensity he was showing in his eyes.
“Hey there fellows, Miroku… Inuyasha.” Bankotsu greeted and laughed, Kagome let out a small sigh.
“Kagome.” Inuyasha let his lips mumble and took his eyes off Kagome for a moment, he directed his gaze to Bankotsu to watch him with despise and anger. “Let her go.”
“Fair enough.” He violently pushed her to a side, making her fall and hit herself on the harsh fortified floor. Kagome yelped in pain and took a few deep breaths, Inuyasha was about to hit Bankotsu when he directed his firearm to him. “Not so fast, I let you get your girl and I get to kill you… don't you dare to move or she'll be bathed in your blood.”
“Just try it.” Miroku said as he gave him a harsh blow in the face, Renkotsu and Kykotsu quickly ran towards him and started fighting him.
Miroku avoided every punch Kykotsu dared to launch against him but he wasn't fast enough to dodge Renkotsu's Molotov cocktails. They burned part of Miroku's leg, showing his flesh with all the blood dripping from his injuries and releasing excruciating pain from every part; he let out a sharp shriek and then charged against Renkotsu but was stopped by Kykotsu who grabbed his arms harshly. Miroku hit him with his elbows and pulled out his revolver, he shot at Kykotsu and a loud thud was heard as he fell to the ground. Renkotsu was going to check his brother but Miroku stopped him with his hard punches so Renkotsu had no other choice than to defend and fight back. Bankotsu laughed at the three of them, taking his eyes off of Inuyasha for moment. Inuyasha thought it was the perfect chance he had to take away his weapon; Bankotsu saw him running towards him and immediately kicked him rigidly on his stomach. Inuyasha stood immobile as he tried to catch his breath; Bankotsu once again pointed his fearful weapon towards him.
“Shoot me.” Inuyasha said once he was able to breathe normally, Kagome gasped scared for his sake. She gathered all the strength she had within her and got up to surround Inuyasha with her body.
“I won't let him… I don't care if you don't love me Inuyasha, I don't care what you feel for me… you may hate me, you may think I annoy you, you may even just wanted to play with my feelings but I… I love you enough to protect you.” Inuyasha closed his eyes and turned things around, his back facing Bankotsu. Now his body was protecting her.
“And I love you even more so I'll never let you risk your life for me.” He let a small smile slip his lips and Kagome cried in his arms.
“How lovely, too lovely to let this live.” Bankotsu pointed his gun to his back, Miroku quickly pushed Renkotsu away and ran to Bankotsu ignoring the pain his leg was causing him; Miroku pointed his gun at Bankotsu.
“Then I'll have to kill you.” Miroku warned and heard the clicking of another gun on his head.
“And I'll kill you.” Renkotsu mumbled, Kagome looked at the four men scared waiting for any of them to make a move.

Naraku kissed Kikyo's neck lightly before walking to the bathroom to clean his wounds with crystal, crisp, clean water. Kikyo shook her whole body in revulsion, still watching the tranquil afternoon surrounding the city that it has once been her home. `Home? I don't know what that word means… and something inside tells me that I never will.' Kikyo sighed heavily before shifting her gaze to the street below her, people looked like ants and for some reason she wanted to crush them. `I'll never get rid of this horrible feeling of destruction… nor will I get rid of Shinta's ghost, his daughter came and stole the only man I loved… if it wasn't for her, I would have never asked Bankotsu to do what I asked him to.' Kikyo closed her eyes for moment, feeling the tears hit against her eyelids. She heard the door open and cleaned the upcoming tears gently.
“Honey, it's time… let's go.” Kikyo faked a sweet smile and he grabbed his bag before letting her out.
They walked towards the elevator, Kikyo and Naraku immediately got in. She tried to grab his hand to assure him safety but he moved it away from her before taking a deep breath. Naraku's eyes were fixated on the number of the floor; once it announced their arrival to the roof he pulled out a small remote with only one button. Naraku took a deep breath and pressed the button seeing how his apartment blew up in pieces. Kikyo jumped scared and dropped her bags then immediately showed him a forced smile and picked them up. The doors of the elevator opened and Naraku saw his enemies ready to kill each other, Kikyo gasped watching the terrifying scene; Bankotsu ready to shoot at Inuyasha, Miroku ready to kill Bankotsu and Renkotsu alert at any slight movement Miroku would dare to do.
“What are you doing here?” Bankotsu looked at Naraku without taking away his gun from Inuyasha's back. Bankotsu immediately smiled.
“What a wonderful surprise! You're here! Oh, this is just marvelous… this is what I have always wanted.” Bankotsu laughed and Naraku pushed Kikyo behind him.
“Get the fuck out of here now!” Naraku yelled hysterically, Bankotsu only laughed some more.
“Guess what Naraku? I have something for you too.” Bankotsu used his other hand to point at Naraku with a gun he had been hiding in his pocket. “Isn't this beautiful? All of Shinta's protégées… Inuyasha, you and Kagome dying the same day and time… This is like a dream come true.”
“Kagome,” Inuyasha whispered softly against her ear. “When I tell you, run and hide behind the helicopter.”
“But…” Inuyasha shook his head lightly.
“No Kagome, don't think… just trust me.” Kagome took a deep breath and nodded as softly as he did. “I love you.”
“Now.” Inuyasha yelled hitting Bankotsu's hand, making him drop his precious revolver. Miroku turned around and hit Renkotsu in the face and Naraku ran to pick up the gun Bankotsu had thrown away, Kagome was safely behind the helicopter.
“Don't you dare to move.” Miroku warned to Renkotsu once he had managed to take out his firearm, Renkotsu sighed in defeat.
Naraku pointed at Inuyasha with his gun, it was a strange image for Kikyo who was sweating cold due to the tension. Inuyasha panted as he looked at Naraku straight in the eyes, trying to decipher his next move, while Naraku's eyes were filled with anger and adrenaline that it was almost impossible for him to notice anything else that wasn't despise towards him.
“It has finally got to this Inuyasha… I was patient, I was calm and I was going to let everything go… even the fact that you stole my place in Shinta's heart but… you won't get away with this… not now that I have you in a corner.” Naraku mumbled under his breath, Inuyasha half smiled.
“You defeated me once in your whole life… what makes you think you can do it again?” Naraku copied his smile.
“I have a weapon.” Inuyasha moved his hand lightly and pulled out one of the revolvers Miroku had handed him.
Naraku and Inuyasha were ready to fight, everything they had lived for now was reduced to this moment in which they would finally settle their differences and have their much deserved revenges. Inuyasha was about to attack Naraku when he noticed he stood still, he wasn't moving or breathing. Suddenly, Naraku fell to the ground and blood was pouring out of his mouth. Inuyasha threw his revolver to a side and bent to reach Naraku's head, he looked at his back and all the red tainting liquid coming from a whole. He looked up and saw Kikyo with a knife in her hand; she was letting tears out of her eyes and watched at Inuyasha intensively.
“I had to do it… and before I dare to do same to you Inuyasha, let me get away and I promise you'll never see me again.” Kikyo said between sobs, Inuyasha looked at her with his golden orbs filled with hatred. “Please, if there is some goodness in your heart… forgive me, because my intention was to kill you and that is the only reason Bankotsu is here.”
“Get out of here Kikyo.” He mumbled and she ran towards the helicopter carrying the heavy bags in which she had packed her whole life.
Inuyasha turned around to look at Miroku fighting against the two brothers, he had his nose bleeding and his leg almost broken apart but he was still fighting. He ran towards him and attacked Bankotsu, he threw him several punches but he simply dodged them as if it was a game. Bankotsu kicked Inuyasha, hit him with his elbow on his face and right when he was about to fall, he picked him by his long silvery hair and forced him to look at his face. Bankotsu smiled pleased with the image of Inuyasha's face destroyed, he swallowed the blood held in his mouth and pushed Bankotsu away as he pulled out his revolver. Bankotsu stood still as he watched Inuyasha clean his face with his hand shaking away drops of his blood. Miroku, on the other hand, had managed to take away Renkotsu's Molotov cocktails and throw them down to the ground, making them explode and surround the two fighters in an intense curtain of smoke and fire. Miroku pushed Renkotsu to the flames and heard his agonizing screams as he burned. He sighed heavily and sat on the floor before watching the fire dissipate and walking out of his small circle of hell, he watched Renkotsu's body on the floor very well burnt. Bankotsu was still being threatened by Inuyasha's firearm but he, he didn't dare to pull the trigger.
“Shoot me already you chicken. Prove to me you are a real man and that you can still kill me without mercy as you used to do to people you knew.” Bankotsu dared him.
Inuyasha stood still and heard the sound of a helicopter; Kagome ran away from the place Kikyo was trying to pull up the machine. The harsh breeze produced by the helicopter and the sound of it was very loud and they could hardly hear their own words. Kagome ran towards Miroku, trying to find some sort of safety next to him.
“That doesn't make me a man, that makes me a murderer.” Inuyasha yelled and Bankotsu laughed, Miroku got to Inuyasha's side and tapped his shoulder lightly.
“Let it go.” He said against Inuyasha's ear and he dropped his weapon.
The wind blowing was now lighter; Kikyo was now up in the air ready to leave everything that she had helped to ruin and leaving away the corpse of Naraku on the ground as she directed herself to a new direction and a new life. Kagome wanted to get near to Inuyasha, to hug him and kiss him but everything went to slow motion for her. She saw Bankotsu move eagerly to the revolver on Naraku's hand, snatching it and pointing at Inuyasha. She was able to catch the blood thirsty smile on his face as he pulled off the trigger. Kagome heard the piercing cry coming out of Inuyasha's mouth as he fell down to the ground, just like Kykotsu, Naraku and Renkotsu had done. Once she saw him fall, time got back its speed and she could only say one thing.
“No!” Kagome unconsciously let out as a yell, she ran to see Inuyasha but Miroku stopped her. “Let me go! I want to see him!”
“Wait…” he whispered and Kagome looked back, if she was scared of zombie movies the image of Renkotsu with most of his skin burnt and his face showing nothing more than his muscles was, petrifying to her.
“You never really gave me credit.” Renkotsu mumbled through his destroyed lips. “You never let me stay in charge.”
“Brother… you're alive.” Bankotsu said joyfully. “Kill these idiots already so we can just get away from here and destroy this mortifying building.”
“No, Bankotsu… you're wrong… what kept me alive was the idea of seeing you dead right before my eyes.” His brother panicked and Miroku pulled Kagome away from the scene.
“Renkotsu, you need to get to a hospital… you look awful, I'll finish the job.” Bankotsu suggested and tried to take away his gun but Renkotsu pushed his apart.
“No! Not this time! This time I'm in charge! And I'll do what I want to do! You'll do what I order you to do!” Renkotsu yelled.
Bankotsu was starting to lose his patience and tried once again to snatch the revolver. Renkotsu pushed him with all the strength remaining in his body, Bankotsu fell and his brother pointed at his head. Bankotsu smiled, convincing himself that soon enough Renkotsu would withdraw his gun and help him get up but Renkotsu pulled the trigger. Kagome, too afraid to watch how he killed him mercilessly, closed her eyes once she heard the thunderous sound of the bullet being shot against Bankotsu's brains which fell against the pavement, splashing them all over the floor.
“Miroku… what happened?” Kagome asked still frightened of opening her eyes, Miroku shook his head not believing what he just saw.
“And with this… I say goodbye to all of you.” Renkotsu said, walking slowly towards the edge of the building and finally jumping down just to crush his body and end with his miserable life for once and for all.
Miroku quickly got to the edge and looked down to watch his crumbled body and the curious people eying his corpse or what was left of it on the floor. Kagome stood there and looked back, watching the motionless Inuyasha still on the ground. Kagome let the tears she had been keeping in her eyes for such a long time finally drop out. She was walking slowly towards him when she heard the sirens of the ambulance and police. Miroku panicked and grabbed her hand.
“We have to get out of here now.” Miroku said and Kagome stopped him.
“No! I… I want to see him.” He shook his head.
“Kagome, if we don't get out of here now we are going to jail for the murder of several of this people! Including Naraku and Bankotsu.” she looked at Inuyasha and cleaned her tears before walking out of the last floor and taking the elevator to exit that building and never going back.

“Police freeze!” Sesshomaru yelled as he walked inside the rooftop. “I guess we are late… damn Inuyasha, he never said a damn thing.”
“Don't blame him darling… let's search.” Kagura suggested, Sesshomaru nodded with deception.
Kagura, Sesshomaru and many other police officers walked around the floor and discovered the corpses of the most searched criminals in the cities. Sesshomaru and Kagura looked at Naraku pleased, believing that Renkotsu's body on the street would have been the most gratifying thing they would find today. Sesshomaru and Kagura took separate ways; Kagura found Kykotsu's body and called a few officers to help her pick up the corpse and take it downstairs. Kykotsu was very heavy and tall, even though she thought they killed each other Kagura knew she would still have to send the body to the morgue. Now the only people left searching the place were Sesshomaru and Kagura. Sesshomaru found something much more interesting than Kagura.
“Kagura… look at this.” He said and Kagura walked to his place, she couldn't believe her eyes.
“Oh my god… Inuyasha.” She mumbled amazed and Sesshomaru smiled.
“This is perfect; everything is just perfect… now we just have to track down that Kikyo bitch.” Kagura nodded and sighed.
“I guess everything is now over.” She mumbled with a bit of regret. “No more drug dealers in this city.”
“We are doing our job.” Sesshomaru said and grabbed Kagura's hand, he pulled her to the edge of the building from which Renkotsu's had thrown himself off a few minutes ago.
“It's a beautiful city.” She said dreamily and Sesshomaru hugged her.
“And now it's safe thanks to us… Kagura remember that even though we are done for now, many other criminals will come up and we have to make sure we stop them before they can corrupt us… understood?” Kagura nodded lightly, he smiled and grabbed his cell phone.
“We need another team to pick up the last corpse, hurry.” He said and hung up.
Sesshomaru and Kagura turned around and looked around the floor; Inuyasha's corpse was no longer lying on the ground.
“Maybe someone already took it.” Kagura said and Sesshomaru nodded.
“Of course, officers are always alert.” He said and Kagura smiled.

The sun was shinning vividly, helping the already blue sky look even brighter. The wind blew softly against her face which came in thanks to the window she had left open. Kagome pushed behind her ear some of her hair that had been bothering her eyes; she grabbed the flowers lying in her car and walked out. She had finally lost the hope of ever seeing Inuyasha again after three long months of waiting for him to show up. Kagome wanted to see him outside school, with his back supported on a tree and with his typical red shirt and jeans; she wished so much to see him that she could even imagine him smoking next to her but it never happened, Kagome was now a senior and he still didn't show up. `I think it's time for me to… accept the truth, he must be dead by now.' She thought once she lost hope, Kagome cried a lot after it. She didn't want to believe it but after what he said to her the day when she saw Kikyo running away, Kagome knew that the bullet Bankotsu had incrusted in his back had killed the love of her life. Kagome shook her head lightly, dispersing any thought that would bring her to cry. Miroku, to try to comfort her, investigated and found her real father's grave and the next day Kagome had went to the flower shop and then to finally “meet” Shinta. Kagome walked around the solemn place, eyeing every tombstone on her way hoping to find her father. At the end of the green pastures she finally saw his name.
Shinta Kishima
“So… my real name would be Kagome Kishima… interesting.” She mumbled to herself, Kagome sighed heavily and looked at the flowers she was holding. “I believe these are for you.”
Kagome sat next to his grave, watching it attentively as she imagined her father next to her. She didn't feel sad at all but for some reason she wanted to cry. `After all these years… we get together once again.' She thought sadly, gently wiping the tear that was about to fall down her cheek. Kagome could feel the warming sun caressing her back, relaxing her and she sighed with a soft smile on her face. Kagome laid the flowers on the grave, before touching it lightly. A shadow covered her and she looked up to stare at the person who covered her. For moment, Kagome strongly believed Inuyasha was standing before her. She could see his silvery white hair slowly waving with the wind's movement, she could watch his big golden eyes staring at her and she could distinguish his arrogant smile plastered on his face. Kagome quickly got up but then everything turned normal to her again. Before her was a man with dark black hair just like her, deep blue eyes that almost seemed to be purple and he was watching her with curiosity.
“Friend of yours?” the stranger asked, something in his voice sounded very familiar to Kagome and very soothing at the same time.
“My… my father.” She answered with some intricacy. “Is there anything I can do for you?”
“No, I… I wanted to look at you closer; you are the most beautiful girl I've seen.” He commented, Kagome would have blushed but she simply smiled. “Would you like to have an ice cream with me?”
“I'm very flattered by your compliment but I just lost my boyfriend and I don't feel like going out… some other day perhaps.” Kagome smiled, trying to give him hope. The man before her got closer.
“Did he die?” He asked and she shrugged her shoulder sadly.
“I sincerely don't know… but I miss him a lot, he was the first man I ever loved… my boyfriend...” He smiled.
“Inuyasha.” He whispered softly and Kagome nodded. “He must have been one lucky man to have you Kagome.”
The man turned around and walked away. Kagome stared at him for a moment as he walked away. She was about to go back to her car when she finally realized. `I never said Inuyasha's name or mine… how could he…?' Kagome didn't even bother on finishing the sentence, she ran behind him. Finally catching him at the gates of the cemetery and looking at him attentively.
“Say my name.” Kagome pleaded as her tears surrounded her eyes; the man looked at her confused.
“What?” he asked and Kagome grabbed him by the shoulders.
“Say my name.” she repeated and he sighed.
“Kagome.” He whispered softly.
Kagome immediately crashed her lips to his, ravishing his mouth with excitement and letting down her tears pour. He returned the kiss with the same intensity, moving his lips above her mouth as if she was the source of his life. Kagome wrapped her arms around his neck and pulled apart from the most passionate kiss ever, she kept on crying although a smile was on her lips.
“Why didn't you say a thing Inuyasha? Why did you leave me this way?” she asked Inuyasha, he didn't look the same but she knew it was him.
“I had to… if I told you or if Miroku told you I had the risk of Sesshomaru hearing everything or worse… Kikyo.” He explained and Kagome placed her head to rest on his chest, listening to his heartbeat.
“What happened to you? Your beautiful eyes…” Inuyasha smiled and pulled apart, he slowly inserted his finger on his eye and pulled out a small plastic disk tinted blue. Kagome was able to see his gorgeous normal eye color. Inuyasha smiled at her again before placing it on his eye again. “Your hair…”
“I dyed it…” he answered a bit annoyed and Kagome smiled grabbing his hand. “It was Miroku's idea.”
“You can always bleach it.” He nodded and kissed her lips softly before hugging her again. “So all those times you were acting weird and mean to me… you were just doing it because you didn't want to ruin your plan?”
“Of course… but I know how much you hate me right now, I'm a lousy boyfriend.” Kagome shook her head and looked sweetly looked into his eyes .
“People that are harder to love are usually the ones who need it the most… I loved you every moment I could Inuyasha…” Inuyasha grabbed her head and kissed her feverishly, Kagome stopped him for a moment. “Promise me… promise me you will be with me today.”
“No, Kagome.” He shook his head, Kagome looked at him hurt. “I can't promise today… but I can promise you forever.”
Kagome closed her eyes and let him kiss her as he wanted; he sweetly touched her lips with his and slowly made his way to her neck. Kagome smiled at the tickling touch his lips produced, Inuyasha pulled away and hugged her tightly. Kagome pulled apart and grabbed his hand to hold it tightly. They walked together to her car slowly, taking each step with calmness and happiness as they finally found each other again. Inuyasha and Kagome may have not remember it but after everything they lived together it was just one simple event that brought them together, the night Inuyasha took away her money and it was all he needed to realize that she was perfect for him. It was all that Kagome needed to know that there was a destiny, love really existed and that everything had been a plan for them to get together; for them to finally find happiness with each other and to never, never let go what the universe had worked so hard to get… a happy ending.
