`Wow.'

All Inuyasha could think about was how he lucked out with this deal. Kagome's summer house was, in one word, huge. It was located on the beach, the nearest town more than 20 miles away. The house was situated on 10 acres of land, private property, which ensured that no one would see Inuyasha, with or without his bandana. Inuyasha was quite satisfied with that. After arriving at the house, he had taken his box from the car and left it on the front porch, under a rocking chair. Then he left, to explore the property and make himself comfortable. The movers had already put his stuff inside, but they had locked the house after they left, and Inuyasha didn't have the key just yet. His options were limited.

`Stupid wench better hurry up and get here.'

------------

Kagome jumped as she heard a loud knock at her door. The TV was still on, and she was still dressed in the clothes she had worn to the club. Blinking furiously, she tried to look through the peephole in the door and make out the blurry figure. Sighing in frustration, she opened the door.

“What took you so long Miroku? I was nearly dead on the couch I was so bored. I'm hungry, and I want to head over to the summer house to make sure that Inuyasha hasn't torn it apart. He doesn't have the key you know,” Kagome said through gritted teeth.

“Ah yes. That's right. Um, yeah sure, actually I was coming to tell you I was heading to the hospital, but we can head over to your house first.”

“Scratch that, we do have to go to the hospital. How do you think Sango's going to handle this whole thing?”

“Hopefully she'll be okay. She knows we're here for her.”

“Yeah, I know you are, you pervert. If you date her after this, you had better take care of her. And you'd better be especially careful with her if you ever go all the way with her…” Kagome found herself speaking into the palm of Miroku's hand, her words becoming muffled.

Miroku stared hard at his cousin. Here she was, rambling about a relationship he wanted, but couldn't have. He took a deep breath.

“Kagome, I don't know how you jumped to that conclusion, but as much as I admire and care for Sango, she does not, I repeat, does not, want a relationship with me. I would have been here all day if she would have, and none of this would have happened,” he said slowly, deliberately. He said it not only for Kagome, but to himself. Sango was not his to have or touch.

Kagome rolled her eyes pulled back from his hands.

“Ok fine Mr Negative, go date the insect major again. Instead of dressing as a praying mantis, she might be a butterfly this time! Ha, ha, no, just kidding, Miroku don't you dare!” Kagome slapped away from her cousin's tickling hands and cleared her throat. She motioned towards the hall.

“Shall we go?”

-----------------

Beep...beep…beep…beep…

The steady beeping of the heart monitoring machine woke Sango up. She blinked several times before the room around her came into focus. Still groggy, she realized she was lying in a hospital bed. Turning her head, she saw her best friend sitting in a chair, whispering softly to her cousin. She listened carefully to what they were saying.

“Oh please Miroku, I know she likes you. Stop being such a baby about it.”

“Kagome, shut up, you're going to wake her up. She needs her rest.”

“Oh bite me, you never take anything seriously.”

“Yeah well…ah…hi Sango! How do you feel?” Miroku scurried over to the side of the bed when he noticed that Sango's eyes were open and she was staring.

Directly at him.

Kagome shrugged her shoulders behind Miroku's back, and followed him over to the bedside.

“Sango, how is everything? Is your body sore? Do you feel ok?”

Sango's mouth lifted ever so slightly at the corner.

“Good, no and yes. I'm doin' good. But, why am I here in the first place? What happened?”

Kagome and Miroku exchanged looks. Did she remember? And if she didn't, dare they remind her?

“Sango,” Miroku started slowly, “I think it's best that you wait before finding out what happened. The doctors will not tell you so there's no point in asking. They all believe you should hear it from a friend or relative, and right now we don't think it's the best time for you to know.”

Sango shifted her gaze to Kagome, who bit her lower lip and nodded in agreement. Sighing, Sango decided that they would tell her when the time came. She glanced over to Kagome again, only to see her best friend checking her watch and grimacing.

“Kags, do you have somewhere to be?”

Kagome snapped back to attention and hastily apologized.

“I'm sorry Sango, I have something I need to check, but it's no big deal, I can stay here. Is there something else you want to talk about?”

Sango thought for a minute.

“Yes, but I don't think I could discuss it with you. Can I talk to Miroku alone? That way you can check whatever it is you need to check, and come back later, or some other time,” Sango said lightly, smiling.

“Sango, are you kicking me out?” Kagome teased, smiling widely.

“Why, of course not Kagome! Why ever would I do that? I simply wish to speak to this dashing young man alone. You must understand how that feels, don't you?” Sango giggled at the slight blush that came over Miroku's face. Kagome laughed and gave Sango a light hug, careful not to hurt her.

“Bye Sangs, see you around. Feel better, ok?”

“Sure will, thanks Kags, See ya.”

Kagome stepped out of the room, and Sango closed her eyes and took a deep breath. Opening one slowly, she saw Miroku trying to sneak out as well.

“And where do you think you're going?”
--------------------------------
Kagome looked around carefully, checking the area before climbing into her car and locking the doors. Taking a deep breath, she started the car and put it into gear. As soon as she backed out of the parking space, she gunned the engine and raced out of the parking lot to the hospital.

If she was lucky, Inuyasha would only injure her.

If she wasn't, he would kill her.

Gritting her teeth, Kagome sped down the streets towards the beach house.

`You know, I really hate that damn house. Maybe now it won't seem so lonely,' Kagome thought to herself. She laughed at the thought of Inuyasha being sociable with her. It was a fairly amusing thought, considering she hadn't been anything but a bitch since she met him. Stopping at a traffic light, she looked down and smiled lightly.

`Well, at least I don't look like a whore anymore.'

Kagome had changed her clothes before going to the hospital. She was happy for the fresh set of clothes and a shower. She'd taken one before leaving for the hospital, and she felt better than she had in days. Slamming down on the gas, Kagome continued on her way to her house on the beach.
------------------------------------------------
Inuyasha sighed contently as he gazed up at the darkening sky from the roof of the girl's house…Kagome. Kagome, Kagome, Kagome. He should probably get used to her name if he had to be polite about it.

Speaking of the wench, where the hell was she??

Inuyasha flipped over on his stomach as he heard a car pull into the driveway. He didn't recognize the car immediately, so he jumped down silently and landed in the bushes.

No way was someone going to sabotage his house.

Inuyasha blinked. Wha…? Since when was this his house?? Since when did he even care?? Oh yeah, that's right. Since he was being allowed to live here by the most gorgeous human girl he'd seen in a long time. But boy, was she obnoxious.

The car pulled to a stop slowly a few feet away from where Inuyasha was hiding in the bushes. Inuyasha crept forward silently, without breathing, as a figure came out of the car, back first.

`Bad move,' Inuyasha thought. He pounced.
---------------------------------------------
Kagome parked a few feet away from the front of the house, and opened her door to get out. She stepped out, then turned to pick up the food she had brought on the way here. No reason to starve the poor bastard, right? Slowly straightening, Kagome let out a sharp scream when someone grabbed her waist and hit her sharply on the head. Kagome's eyes rolled to the back of her head, and she hung limply in her attacker's arms.

`Aw fuck.'
------------------
Inuyasha could feel the intruder go limp in his arms, but he wasn't very happy about it. The so-called intruder had been the owner, and he had just screwed up big time. Spotting her keys, he locked the car, grabbed the girl and the food (no reason to waste it, eh?) and made his way up to the house. After trying three keys, he was frustrated, and finally got the right key to open the door. Shoving the door open, he stepped inside and sighed. The house was so orderly.

That would have to change.

There was also a fine layer of dust on everything. Inuyasha sneezed twice, then headed into the first room on the left, the living room. Inuyasha set Kagome down softly on one of the couches, then went to grab his stuff on the porch. After that, Inuyasha found the kitchen and set up a cold towel to place on Kagome's forehead. He had hit her pretty hard. She was going to wring his neck when she finally came to.
