Chapter 1: Sentenced

___________________________________________________________________________ _______

‘Wow this totally sucks’ a young teenage girl at the age of 17 thought, sporting a black hoodie, loose jeans, and black and white chequered vans thought to herself as she stood in front of the judge at a local community court.

“You realise the severity of what you have done, correct Kagome?” The judge named Kaede or something asked.

“Yup.” She replied shortly.

“Young lady, I have no time for your disrespectful behaviour. In this court you will address me formally and politely, do you understand?” Kaede bellowed in an angry voice.

Kagome heaved a heavy sigh. ‘yeah this totally sucks…’

“Yes Ma’am.” She replied with a smirk. ‘This is so sad…’

Flashback

Music was blasting throughout the whole house, or lack there of.

A young girl emerged through a plastic cover towards a young group of kids sitting near a large glass back door.

“Kagome!” A few of the kids hollered as she made her way towards them. They consisted of mostly boys with a few girls here and there, all dressed in skater clothes accompanied by alcohol and cigarettes.

“Hey guys, how’s it going?” She asked as she stole a glass bottle out of one of the boys hands and took a swig.

“Not too bad.” Another boy answered as he handed her a cig and a light.

“How did you guys get into this place?” She asked as she looked around the house.

It was currently a construction site, only a few windows put in and not even any dry wall. It could barley even be considered a house. More like a combination of wood, glass, and cement with tools, plastic covers and other constructiony stuff.

“Kagome, dude, it’s me. How could I not?” The boy asked. That was Jake. Currently one of Kagome’s best friend and a total lunatic.

“Yeah, your right.” She said as she giggled and lit the cigarette.

“Come on man I wanna show you something.” He said as he wrapped his arm around her shoulders and brought her out of the glass door and into what would be the back yard.

“Wow.” Kagome said as she stared in awe. In front of her was an empty pool. A rather large empty pool, perfect for a good skate.

“Yeah, I know. So come on, grab your board lets skate!” He said as he grabbed a near by skate board and started skating around the empty pool.

Kagome threw both the bottle and cigarette before grabbing her board and joining her best friend.

“Dude! Turn the music up!” Jake called to Zach, another one of Kagomes best friends.

“Hell yeah!” He hollered as he cranked up the stereo and joined the other two in the pool.

Soon pretty much everyone was in the empty pool skating and what not.

Pretty much your bad crowd party in a non authorised hang out.

Everyone froze when all of a sudden police sirens could be heard from the front of the house.

“Everybody run!” Someone called as kids dashed in every which direction.

Kagome being and expert at running from the police ran around the pool to the side fence and jumped it, landing on the sidewalk of another street.

Breathing a sigh of relief as she realised there were no cops waiting there she started to strool down the street on her board as she began to laugh at her little group of friends’ track record.

Pretty much no matter where they went the cops would find them, knowing they were the worst trouble makers.

But every time they would show up, everyone would run for it, hardly ever being caught.

Kagome had been caught countless times before, and still most of the time she wasn’t caught. She was a pro.

She was caught once spray painting the side of a school bus when she snuck into her school late at night.

Another time was when she was found in a street fight with her other friends when a group of ‘enemies’ had decided to get lippy. What idiots. Nearly everyone from there little wannabe crew walked away black and blue with a broken nose.

And there were countless other felonies on her criminal record. Too many to name though.

But Kagome was soon brought out of her little day dream as a police car began to come up from behind her.

‘Shit!’ She thought to herself as she began to skate for her life down a back alley away from the car.

Once at the end she started to slow down thinking she was safe, only to be met by a group of cars waiting for her.

‘Damn.’ She thought as she put her hands behind her head and was blinded by the lights of their flash lights.

“Well, well ,well, how ya doin Kagome?” One of the police officers called to her from one of the cars.

“Been better.” She said instantly recognised the voice.

“Another strike kid. Wonder what Kaede’s got in store for ya…” He questioned as he cuffed her and put her in the back of the car.

‘Cant be any suckier than any of the other things she’s made me do’ She thought as she watched the streets go by.

End Flashback

“Kagome!” Kaede yelled, bringing the girl out of her little day dream.

“Huh?” She asked dumbly.

“I will not tolerate your insolence, either you listen when spoken to or I will have to give you a rather harsh punishment.” She said with an obvious vein popping out of her head.

“Sorry.” She mumbled.

“Good. Now, I have two choices for your punishment, considering I have a little faith in you.” She began as she read through some papers.

“Anything but juvy, there’s no way on earth I’m going back there.” Kagome pleaded.

“Well if you let me finish.” She said her voice slightly rising in volume.

“Sorry.”

“A nyways, your two choices are either a Everitt Juvenile Center or a school for special youths.” Kaede announced as she looked up at a stunned girl.

“What kind of special youths? I aint hangin out with no retards if that’s what it is.” She said holding her hands up as if she were being held at gun point.

“Young lady, do not make me change my mind or you will be going straight back to Everitt, you understand me?” She asked holding a shaky finger at the young girl.

“Yes Ma’am.” She answered looking away.

“Good. And this school is for certain ‘special’ kids much like you with their own problems and gifts.” Kaede said, her voice softening.

“I told you I aint got no problems!” Kagome screamed as she slammed her hands down onto the table in front of her, causing a small crack to be formed where she hit it. “And I certainly don’t have and ‘gifts’ as you would like to put it.” She finished with a softer voice.

“Well I think that settles it.” Kaede stated.

Kagome’s eyes widened, fearing the worst in having to do back to Everitt, a juvy center she had spent 2 years at when she was 12.

“You are going to Westside Boarding School for the Discontented and Gifted Youth.” Kaede confirmed as she slammed a stamp onto the paper in front of her.

“So where is it your going?” Jake asked as he slouched onto Kagome’s bed while playing with his hacky sack.

“Um…hang on it’s on this folder…” She said as she grabbed a thick blue folder and began to read the cover. “It’s Westside Boarding School for the Discontented and Gifted Youth. Psshh.”

“Man, I heard of that place, its strict.” Zach said from his place on her computer chair.

“Cant be worse than Everitt, I’ll tell you that.” Kagome stated as she threw some clothes into her bag.

“Actually, I heard it is, I know this guy there, Miroku, he got thrown in for constant street racing and cause he’s got some sort of spiritual powers or something, and he said it had the strictest rules and teachers straight from hell.” Zach said grabbing the attention of his other two friends.

“Man, Miroku is a punk and a lecher, what you listenin to him for?” Jake asked throwing his hacky sack, hitting Zach square in the nose.

“Dude, I’m telling ya, he aint lyin here, that place is tough.” He said throwing it back at Jake.

“Dude, if your tryin to scare me then it aint workin. I’d rather go there than back to Everitt…and I dunno what I’m getting sent there for anyways, its for the gifted. Discontented, maybe, gifted, I think not.” She said zipping up her bag and throwing it over her shoulder.

“Kagome, no matter how much you want to deny it, you do have spiritual powers, get over it.” Jake said now deciding to throw the little ball at her.

“Whatever.” Kagome muttered as she caught the ball mere centimetres from her face and slamming it down onto his private area as she walked past him.

“Ah!” He hollered as he fell onto the floor from the pain.

“You were askin for it man.” Zach said as he followed Kagome out the door, making sure to kick Zach on his way out.

“Sweetie you got everything?” Her mother, Mrs.Higurashi asked as she hugged her daughter while standing in front of the car that was meant to take Kagome away.

“Yes, jeez woman, you asked me that ten times.” Kagome said rolling her eyes.

“I know, I know. You be good now you hear!” Her mother said holding her tighter.

“Yeah yeah.” Kagome mumbled as she sent her two friends glares, who were currently sniggering at her and her mothers antics.

“I don’t know why you have to be so rebellious all the time,” Her mother said pulling back and sweeping away a bit of loose hair from her daughters face. “Maybe if your dad was here…”

“Mom, seriously, don’t open that can of worms.” She said glaring at her mother.

“Alright, but you take care! And call me when you get there!” She called as she began to walk back into the house.

“Bitch.” Kagome mumbled as she stuck her middle finger up at her retreating mothers form.

“Hey sis, take care.” Souta, her little brother of 15 said as he playfully slapped her on the arm.

“Will do bro.” She said as she ruffled up his hair.

“Hey!” He said as he decided to tickle her but then turned it into a hug. “Really sis, be good.”

“I really wont, now go on I think I hear the devil calling you.” She said as she nudged him towards the house.

“I still don’t understand why you don’t like your own mother, dad left years ago.” He called as he walked away from her.

“Love you too squirt!” She called.

“I’m taller than you!” He answered back not liking the squirt comment.

“Yeah well your still a dweeb to me loser!” She laughed as Souta disappeared into the house.

She loved her brother, she really did, but she hated her mom for reason Kagome preferred to keep quiet.

“So…I guess this is goodbye.” Zach said as he shifted nervously.

“No man! Don’t say that! This place is only a half hour drive from here so you better get your asses over there and visit me!” She said holding up a bossy finger.

“Yeah girl you know it!” Jake said as he snapped his fingers and pulled her into a tight hug.

“Your such a weirdo.” She said hugging him back.

“But you love me.” He said pulling away from her.

“Unfortunatley.” She mumbled barley under her breath.

“I heard that!” He shouted accusingly.

“I have no idea what your talking about.” She stated as she was pulled into a hug from Zach.

“Don’t go being all goody goody goody for one you hear!” He told her with a stern face as he pulled away.

“Believe me, I wont.” She said holding her hands up.

“Good. Now get in that car and fuck off!” He said happily as he shoved her towards the car.

“I’m going, I’m going!” she said as she sat comfortably in the back seat of the car.

“You guys drink loads for me cause I highly doubt I’m gonna be gettin any at this place.” She called out
from the window.

“You don’t even have to ask.” They both called to her as the car began to pull away.

“Love you guys!” She said sticking her middle finger out the car window.

“Love you too!” They both called as they blew her kisses from the sidewalk.

Kagome giggled as she sat back into the seat, watching her neighbourhood she grew up in fly by.

‘Westside you better watch out, Kagome’s comin…’
