InuYasha Fan Fiction ❯ Divine Temptation ❯ The Morning Before ( Chapter 2 )

A/N: please bear with me, as this is my first fiction. Being the Tazalicious person that I am, I decided to start with something very original, which is ironic because everyone does camp stories. Everyone is VERY ooc here. Another note, Shippou has been placed in an age accelerator; he is now the same age as the rest of the Inu gang. Kirara is also really different. She has been given a humanoid form for this story. Please read and review. This story will only be a success if you help me make it. Thanks a lot.

The Morning Before

Kagome Higurashi woke up at 6:00 the morning if the day she was supposed to be leaving for Camp Jewel. Reaching across the bed, she shook her best friend, Sango, to wake her up. “Come on, Sweetie. The bus leaves in three hours,” she whispered as she shook the girl next to her.

“Huh? Mommy, can I have another cookie?” Sango muttered drowsily, as she rolled over to her other side.

“Sango . . . WAKE UP!” Kagome shouted.

It worked. Her best friend shot up. “Holy shit! Where’s the fire?” she screamed irritably. “Couldn’t you wake up at noon like normal people?”

Kagome smirked at her groggy and disoriented friend. “Can’t wake up at noon when the bus the bus leaves at nine,” she murmured serenely.

“What bus?”

“The bus. To camp. Camp Jewel. You know. The one we’ve been going to for the past 4 years. Is any of this ringing a bell?”

Sango looked confused for a moment, but then awareness crept in. “Ohmigod. Are we late?” she asked, worry etched in her voice.

“Relax yourself,” Kagome said with a grin. “We have three hours to get ready and get there.”

“Then what are you waiting for? Get up and get ready!” Sango shouted.

“Err . . . that’s why we woke up at six. To give us enough time,” Kagome replied.

“Like that’s enough time. It takes a half hour to get to headquarters. That only leaves two ½ hours to get dressed!”

“And that’s a problem because . . . ”

“You’re obviously not a real girl if you think two hours is enough time for two teenage females to get ready.”

“Whatever,” Kagome said nonchalantly. “I’m going in the shower. I happen to be very proud of my ability to be completely ready in 45 minutes. Make up the bed. I’ll be out in a sec.” Kagome ran into the shower as Sango stretched languidly.

‘Might as well lie down while Kagome is in the shower,’ Sango thought drowsily. Within seconds she was fast asleep.

Kagome exited the bathroom in a cloud of steam and smirked when she saw Sango asleep . . . again. She raced back to the bathroom and reemerged with a bucket full of cold water. As she poured the frigid water down Sango’s back, she laughed at her anguished scream until Sango’s hand clutched her throat and she couldn’t even breathe.

“Run,” Sango said menacingly.

Kagome merely smiled and removed her friend’s claws from her neck before it began to bruise. “Shower’s empty,” she drawled, walking toward the outfit she had laid out on her dresser the night before. Sango mumbled “bitch” angrily as she passed.

“You know it,” Kagome called gaily to the closed bathroom door. Sango’s hand reached out and flipped her off, to Kagome’s evident amusement. She glanced at the clock. ‘Dammit. It’s 6:45 already?’ she thought while she walked to her wardrobe. She then grabbed the white shorts and green halter top off the cherry wood dresser and pulled it on. She slipped into her matching green flip flops and pulled her hair back into a loose side ponytail, held by a white scrunchie with a large flower. She dabbed on cherry tinted lip gloss and put on her gold hoop earrings. Within 20 minutes, she was completely ready.

She crossed over to her floor length mirror and gazed at her reflection. The white shorts stopped in the middle of her thigh and outlined the gentle flare of her hips. Her halter was v-necked, and it provided a tantalizing view of her cleavage. Kagome smiled, pleased with her appearance.

“Kagome!” her mother, Misumi, called. “Please tell me that you and Sango are getting ready. It’s already 7:15!”

Rather than yell back at her mother, Kagome grabbed her denim jacket and headed downstairs. “Good morning, Mom,” she said to Misumi, who was preparing breakfast. “Morning, brat,” she muttered to her little brother, Souta, who immediately growled and marched over to his older sister.

“Is that the way you greet your brother when you’re not going to see him again for a whole two months?” he asked.

Kagome smiled. She could tell that her brother was going to miss her while she was gone, but then she was going to miss him too. “Relax, squirt. I’ll make up for it with the goodbye you’ll get in about an hour.”

“Isn’t that sweet?” Sango gushed, racing down Kagome’s stairs.

“So you’ve finally decided to join us?” Kagome asked.

“Kaggie, really, where are your manners?” She turned to face Kagome’s family. “Good morning Souta. Good morning Misumi.” She turned back to Kagome. “As for me being quote unquote late, I couldn’t decide between wearing the red top, white shorts, and red shoes or the white top, red shorts and white shoes.”

“So how in hell did you end up in a black top, pink shirt and black shoes?” Souta asked incredulously. Kagome nodded in agreement, bewilderment apparent on her face.

“Oh, I decided that red isn’t really my color anyway,” she replied easily. Kagome merely arched an eyebrow; she was used to Sango’s asinine method of choosing clothes. “Besides, the only tank top I packed was this one. The rest of them are either halters or tubes.”

Kagome snorted. “Smut,” she muttered under her breath.

“Bitch,” Sango replied easily.

“Whore.”

“Tute.”

“Tute?”

“Short for prostitute,” Sango said with an air of satisfaction.

“Girls, GIRLS!” Misumi shouted anxiously, her eyes darting to Souta who was shaking with silent laughter. “Please refrain from using such crude language in my house. Now it’s 7:45. We leave in 45 minutes. Please sit down and eat breakfast so we can go.”

Kagome looked as Sango and Sango looked at Kagome. They both burst out laughing. “Sure thing, Misumi,” Sango managed to squeeze out between giggles.

“Yeah. Sure thing Mom,” Kagome echoed, choking on her laughter.

Misumi stared at her daughter and the girl who had become a second daughter to her, and shook her head in disbelief. Souta also wore a similar expression and he muttered something that sounded a whole lot like “girls” before he turned back to the television.

The girls were oblivious to all of this as they sat down to eat their ramen. “So,” Kagome began, “who do you think is going to be at Jewel this summer?”

Sango smiled smugly. “I don’t have to think.”

“Well you actually never do.”

“Not what I meant. I meant that I already know.”

“How?”

“Called in a few favors and called up a couple of people. The usual will be there. The lovesick wolves, Yasha and Sesshy, Miroku, Rin, Shippou and Rara.”

“Rara?”

“You know. Kirara.” Kagome started giggling. She could already picture the look on Kirara’s face when Sango called her Rara. It was priceless.

“Ok, perfect. Now we won’t be forced to deal with the awkward introductions like last year. Remember when you tried to pull off one of Yasha’s ears because you thought they weren’t real?”

“How could I forget? Those were good times, good times.”

They both started giggling when Misumi came back downstairs. “Girls, take your suitcases out to the car, we leave in 10.”

Kagome walked to the other side of the kitchen where she had placed her two trunks. “Something must be wrong,” she said, “because instead of seeing 5 suitcases, I SEE 10!” she finished in ringing tones. Kagome turned to glare at Sango, who had the decency to look embarrassed.

“It’s not my fault. A girl has to have options.”

“No, a girl need to make 5 of these suitcases disappear in 5 minutes!” Kagome grabbed her bags and dragged them out to the car waiting in their driveway. She loaded them into the trunk and opened her door. Souta was already in the front seat waiting for them. A few minutes later, Sango joined them, grumbling about inconsiderate friends who were making their significant other miserable.

“So, Sango, how many bags are you bringing?” Kagome asked sweetly.

“3,” Sango growled.

“Good girl.”

“You know, if you weren’t my best friend, I’d kill you.”

“I know.” Kagome turned to stare out the window while her mother approached the car. “Hey Sango?”

“Yeah?”

“Do you think we’ll have fun this summer?”

Sango could hear the worry evident in Kagome’s voice and sought to reassure her best friend. “Of course. Even if every one deserts us, we’ll always have fun because we’re together.”

Kagome smiled. “How did you know?”

“We’re best friends. It’s my job to know.”

At that point, Misumi had already entered the car and was ready to go. “Everybody here?” the car resounded with the affirmative answers of the teens. She put the car in drive and headed out of the driveway to the street. “Now girls, I don’t want to get any phone calls home. Stay out of trouble and say hi to Rin and Kirara.”

The girls mumbled a reply but it was cut short by the image of Camp Jewel Headquarters. Before the car even stopped, the doors were open and Sango and Kagome were out of the car. They stopped to tell Sango and Misumi goodbye.

“Hey brat,” Kagome called.

“Yeah?”

“Come give me a hug. Are you going to miss me?”

Muffled by her tight embrace, he stammered out, “About as much as you’re going to miss me.” The both laughed and she let him go.

“Later, Souta.”

“Bye, Kaggie.”

Kagome turned back to her mother, who was hugging Sango with tears in her eyes. “Hey Sango! Get off my mom,” she scolded playfully. “Sango let go of Misumi, who in turn spun around to face her daughter.

“My baby. I’m going to miss you.”

“I’m going to miss you too, Mommy. But I have to go. See you in a couple of months?”

“I’ll be here.”

She kissed her mother on the cheek and waved goodbye. Then she grasped her friend’s hand and together, they walked into Camp Jewel.
