Chapter 1 - The Irresponsible Driver
'One hundred fifty one days since the accident,' a young woman of twenty-two years reminded herself.
One hundred forty six days since she had been released from the hospital. It didn't occur to her why she was counting the days since the moment she stepped out from the hospital. She didn't think too much of it. What bothered her the most was that she never found the careless driver that slammed into her car.
She nuzzled her soft pillow and sighed. "I guess it doesn't really matter" she told herself. She didn't really want to get out of bed anyway; the warmth from her bed was absolutely comforting. She relaxed her mind and slowly began to drift to the land of dreams once more.
`Kagome Higurashi, wake up! Wake up! Wake up!' her alarm clock shouted loudly through the room. Kagome growled lowly and gave her digital alarm clock a stare that could have raised hell.
'I knew I should've recorded mom's voice instead of mine!' She slapped her hands on the snooze button. "At least I can sleep through mom's voice. I never knew my voice can be so annoying!"
Kagome yawned lazily and flipped over to lie on her stomach. 'Ah... peace.'
`Kagome Higurashi, get out of bed lazy butt! Get up! Get up! Get up!'
"ARGH!" Kagome threw her blankets off of her body. "Alright. Alright!" she huffed angrily.
She growled and hauled her legs over the side of her bed then grasped the cord of her digital clock and yanked the plug out of the electric socket.
"Remind me to buy a digital clock that lets me reset the recording to something else. Okay, Buyo?" Kagome stroke her chubby cat's head tenderly.
“Meow?” Buyo tilted his head.
Kagome giggled and pecked him on his nose.
"Now... where are my slippers?" Kagome kneeled down and checked under her bed.
'Nope, not here. Hmm... where could they be?'
She wrinkled her nose and sighed. She turned to her Buyo. "Have you seen my slippers?"
Buyo grunted and stretched out his front and back limbs.
"You know, if you don't want to show me, just say so!" Kagome crossed her arms and pouted. Buyo mewed and jumped on top of her nightstand to begin scratching the first draw.
"Buyo, stop! You'll scratch off the paint!" Kagome moved in to scoop him into her arms.
Buyo hissed almost furiously at Kagome for several seconds and resumed his relentless scratching.
Kagome huffed. "Fine, I'll open it for you! It better be important!" She grabbed the drawer's knob and pulled. She gasped, inside were a pair of light grey fuzzy slippers -- her fuzzy slippers.
"When did these get here?" Kagome retrieved her slippers and donned them on. "Thank you, Buyo!"
She patted her pet's head and headed towards her bathroom and stripped down to her bare skin to step into the shower. She reached for the water knobs but suddenly stopped. Her mind went blank, and she got utterly confused. Her hand felt numb and unresponsive as her body slightly shivered.
'Was it the blue knob or the red knob?' Kagome closed her eyes; her head began to hurt. What was going on with her? Why couldn't she remember which knob turned on the warm water?
Kagome patted her cheeks with her hands lightly. "Wake up Kagome! You're just probably too sleepy!"
She shook her head and took in a deep breath and reached for the red knob. Warm water began pouring out from the metallic shower head. 'See, you were just too sleepy!'
She smiled and returned to her daily routine.

"Good morning, mom!" Kagome rushed over and hugged her mother from behind.
The kitchen was filled with a delicious aroma of her favorite congee: salted pork with preserved eggs. Her mother smiled happily in return, her wrinkles visible on her face.
"Good morning, dear. Go wake up your brother. He's still asleep!”
Kagome nodded and darted up the stairs.
Kagome stopped in front of a wooden door and knocked loudly.
"Souta, wake up!" she half shouted.
From the other side of the door Kagome could hear grumbling. She shook her head.
"Souta, you're fifteen now. Stop being such a lazy butt and start waking up on time!"
This time, Kagome could not hear a thing from Souta. 'He probably went back to sleep,' she though wryly and a malicious idea tickled her.
"I'll give you five seconds to answer me. If you don't, I'm going to barge into your room and pour cold water all over you!" she threatened.
Kagome could hear hurried scrambling and grunting.
'Two... one...'
The door opened, revealing a black haired teen slightly taller than Kagome. She smiled victoriously at his annoyed and grumpy composure.
"There, I'm dressed. Happy?" He scrunched his nose at his elder sister and headed to the bathroom.
"Yep, very happy." Kagome laughed softly.
Kagome grinned as she sat down in the dining room with her immensely large bowl of congee.
"This is just what I need to start the day!" she chirped. Kagome disregarded her spoon besides her bowl and brought the bowl of scalding hot congee to her lips.
Souta sat across his sister, staring at her with awe.
"Dang, Kagome! How do you eat that bowl of congee so fast?"
Kagome was slurping down her favorite dish without hesitation. She looked at her little brother and gave him a toothy grin.
"Well it's easy. You pick up the spoon... scoop some congee… and put it in your mouth! Or bring the bowl to your lips and blow and then take a sip!" Kagome demonstrated for him as if this was Souta's first time eating congee.
"I meant that it's too hot to gulp it down the way you do," Souta replied, rolling his eyes.
He had missed her when she moved out two years ago. Kagome would visit everyday, only in the morning to have breakfast with the family.
'I miss her hogging the bathroom,' he smirked.
Their bond was more than just a blood bond; he would do anything to protect his sister.
He noticed Kagome wasn't really the same after her accident. She would space out in the middle of a conversation or stop what she was doing for no reason with a blank look on her face. He told his mother and grandpa, but they both said he was probably worrying more than the necessary.
"Ah, Kagome, slow down! You'll burn your tongue!" an elderly man wobbled into the room and took his seat on the dining table next to Souta.
Kagome giggled and beamed a smile to her grandfather. "Good morning Grandpa!"
"So honey, do you have any appointments today?" Kagome's mother joined the family on the dining table.
Kagome nibbled on her spoon.
"Hmm...” She nodded. “With some vice president of a big company. I hear he's one tough negotiator; really cold and even some people call him a sadist monster." Kagome's mother laughed softly and shook her head in return.
She shrugged it off. The only thing she wanted to think about was how delicious her bowl of congee tasted. The bliss didn't last long, though. Kagome glanced over to the clock and gasped in horror.
"I'm going to be late!" She jumped onto her feet and darted out the backdoor.
"KAGOME!! You forgot your shoes!!" Souta called behind her. Kagome almost started to laugh at herself for getting out of the house barefoot but she decided that she didn't have the time and stiffed the humor in the situation.
She put on her shoes and nodded, indicating that now she was ready.
"Heh! Silly me! Bye Mom, Gramps! See you tomorrow!" She briefly kissed Souta on his forehead and dashed madly to her car.
Souta turned to his mother and grandpa. "I really think... I really think something's wrong with Kagome." Kagome's mother and grandpa stared at each other, worry flashing in their eyes.
Perhaps, Souta was right. Maybe there was something going wrong with Kagome.

A light breeze rattled the bright green leaves on the trees. Several of them cascaded down onto the roof of Kagome's car. She inhaled deeply, enjoying the scent of the grass and flowery aroma.
"What a beautiful day!" she exclaimed to no one in particular. She loved Mother Nature and mostly all animals.
Kagome took a moment to enjoy her surroundings before reality set in.
'Well, time to go to work,' She sighed and stepped in her silver Jaguar XF-R. It wasn't that she hated her work, in fact, she loved it. It was rather odd working at a large company where the President would give her those 'looks.'
Kagome shivered and discarded the thought. It was something she didn't want to think about while driving.
Kagome swallowed nervously as she travelled down the highway. She had grown scared of high trafficked roads, especially highways, after her car accident. A chill crept up her spin once again, almost making her lose visual image of the road in front of her.
Her hands were sweaty, she shifted on her leather seat nervously, and her eyes darted back and forth to the rearview mirrors and the road, making sure that there was enough space around her car.
The accident hadn't been caused by her -- of course not. Kagome always had been an extremely safe driver. She never got a ticket since the first time she got behind the wheel. Even in her twenty two years of her life, she never had been in a car accident. Nope, never.
Kagome nearly cried out in joy when she reached her exit. She sighed at the memories of the car that had hit her...
***flashback***
The road was slippery that night. It was an extremely dangerous condition to drive for cars with either new or worn tires. Kagome was driving to her friend's New Years Eve party not too far away from her home; it was merely a twenty minutes drive.
Kagome had been cautious that night because she had been feeling quite uneasy the whole day -- heck even her horoscope said to beware of ice. An omen? Yes, very probable.
Kagome made sure every road she was on had little to no ice patches. The first fifteen minutes of her drive went smoothly. She was now only a few blocks away from her friend's café; Kagome was highly relieved when she got off the highway.
She signaled to turn to her right and waited patiently for her green light. She nodded, assuring herself all she had to do was turn, and she'd be off the high trafficked areas. While she turned, she made a life threatening mistake. She had forgotten to check the road for cars that were coming in her direction.
Luckily for her, the road was empty, or it seemed like so. But those several seconds she used to check her surroundings cost her.
She heard a series of loud screeches, and she stopped and turned around her seat. To her horror, a sky blue sports car, a Bugatti Veyron, apparently going at an insane speed, was out of control.
It was heading straight to her.
***end of flashback***
Kagome shook her head.
"Jeez, I have to stop thinking about that!! Concentrate on this road, Kagome!" she commanded herself.
She was not far from her destination. She shrugged softly and signaled to turn into the parking lot.
"Work is more important." she heard herself saying.
A sudden flash of sky blue zoomed in front of her.
Kagome froze.
'Can it be that same sports car?'
When Kagome woke up in the hospital, the driver who crashed into her had done some paper work. She had no idea what his name was, how he looked like, or even if he had been injured. All she remembered was laying in the hospital bed, staring at her worried mother, grandpa, and little brother. Kagome also remember the silver hair that had been floating outside her driver's window and a symbol of a silver crescent moon that glistened on the reflection of her rear view mirror. Other than that, she knew nothing of the careless driver. Silver hair and a crescent moon.
"It can't be..."
Kagome knew for sure a Bugatti Veyron was highly rare and expensive. She was sure that was the car that crashed into her but she couldn't believe that destiny wanted her to meet the reason of her trauma.
What were the chances of running into the person who could've killed her? Kagome's mind was made up, and now she was determined to find some answers. She wanted to know who that irresponsible driver was. She turned her steering wheel sharply and sped after the blue multi-million dollar car.
She pressed on the gas, going from 46 mph to 79 mph. Kagome didn't understand exactly why she was so determined to find out who that driver was.
Just moments before, she had told herself to stop reminiscing about the accident, and now, she was chasing the sky blue Bugatti Veyron. There was this gnawing at her heart, a feeling that was impossible for her to ignore that told her to go after that driver.
Kagome narrowed her eyes at the sports car in front of her; it circled the same block several times now. She smirked when a plan manifested in her head.
Kagome turned the corner and parked her car behind a large bush. She glanced around and was immensely surprised. The whole block had several large business buildings, all belong to the same company, Taishou Inc., that she hadn't noticed because of her resolution of concentrating on the damn Bugatti driver. The name sounded extremely familiar to Kagome, but at the moment, she couldn't remember why.
Kagome didn't think too much of it and got out of her car.
She walked quickly behind a large potted plant and waited for her target. Kagome had a feeling this mystery driver of hers was going to go into the building nearer to her, since it seemed to be the main one. It was just a hunch, but it was too good to be only a hunch to give it up.
Kagome sighed and sat on the ledge of the large pot. She waited over ten minutes for that blasted driver, and he ... or she was nowhere to be seen.
Kagome glanced at her silver watch. '9:32 a.m.'
"Maybe my hunch was just a hunch..." she said out loud, huffing and frowning.
"Indeed," a voice from the other side of the plant said with slight amusement.
Kagome's eyes widened. She spun around to see a rather handsome... actually, an extremely handsome man in an expensive looking Giorgio Armani suit. Kagome quickly noticed a distinct feature of the man.
"Silver hair..." Kagome whispered.
She was sure now. The driver who crashed into her was him She couldn't be mistaken.
"Where you the one driving in that sky blue Bugatti Veyron?"
The man raised an elegant eyebrow. Kagome couldn't help but stare at him, his hair was beautifully groomed. Was it as silky and soft as it gave off? His piercing amber hues stared right into her soul, almost as if he were reading her every thought and emotion.
"What of?" He spoke in such a high-classed manner.
Kagome wrinkled her nose, suddenly feeling she was dressed rather inadequately to meet such an important looking person.
She stammered. "I have a few questions that I have to ask the owner."
Kagome watched as he stared at her indifferently and turned on his heels and began to walk away from her. She gasped in surprise. He was rather rude, wasn't he?
"HEY!" Kagome ran up to him as fast as she could in her heels. She called after him but he didn't stop. Kagome jerked his arm back, making him stop for a moment.
His eyes darted to her hand that were on his biceps. With his amber hues he glared at her.
"Release your hand from my person." he commanded.
She was taken back by his sudden cold yet threatening voice.
"I only have a few questions to ask you. It's really important to me," Kagome released her touch from his biceps. Inwardly she was gasping for air; his biceps were rock hard and warm. She didn't think someone could have such an effect on her with just a five second hands on clothes contact.
The male in front of her had a mask of steel. Kagome couldn't even detect a hint of emotion in his voice. The only hint she had that he had any emotions was the very first word he said with a hint of amusement.
"How does this concern me?" His voice remained distant and cold.
Kagome almost exploded on him. Heat crept up to her neck and then to her cheeks. Yes, it was a blush in a way -- a blush of anger and frustration.
"Look, you,” she said, pointing her index at him. “I only need one word from you. All you have to do is answer truthfully with a yes or a no,"
Kagome was getting really annoyed at him. How could he remain so stoic?
She noticed something: he wasn't looking at her in the eyes. He was staring past her for some odd reason while she spoke. Why? Kagome thought he probably had an eye problem and didn't think too much of it.
"Were you in a car accident on New Year's Eve six months ago... in your blue Bugatti Veyron?" she blurted out.
Kagome held her breath. She prayed he was the driver who hit her and she had no idea why. Why did she want to know who caused her accident? Why was she so determined to seek him out? Questions swirled in her head as she tried to focus on the dangerously handsome male in front of her.
He stared at her with great intensity. Actually, he was staring past her with great intensity.
Kagome wanted to crawl in a corner and hide. He held her gaze for heavens know how long, but she couldn't tell after a few seconds if he was indeed looking at her or still past her. She just couldn't break away from his eyes. Kagome noticed he narrowed his eyes just ever so slightly and in a split second, he turned away heading towards the front entrance.
"HEY!" Kagome yelled after him.
She glanced at her watch. If she didn't get going soon, she would be late for work. Kagome growled in frustration.
"The nerve of that guy!" She watched him disappear in the building with mild hatred and annoyance. "Just hope I never see you again!"
She fumed and was about to head to her car when she noticed something white and rectangular on the floor that hadn't been there before. Kagome noticed it was a business card. She carefully bent down and read the card.
Sesshoumaru Taishou
Vice President of Taishou Inc.
Vice President of Taishou Inc.
"Wow... Vice president, huh?"
Kagome stood up and glanced at the series of huge and complex buildings.
'What a waste of a handsome man. So cold and rude and a total jerk. All he had to do was say yes or no,' she shook her head and headed back to her car. She threw the card in her cup holder and sighed comfortably when the weight on her feet had been lifted.
Kagome put her hands on the steering wheel but a smudged blue ink on her left hand made her frown a bit.
'Where did this come from?' She had not touched any written documents so far; the only piece of paper she touched today was the card.
"... The card..." she murmured.
Kagome retrieved the card from her cup holder and examined it. The front was all clean and smooth with his name and job written. She then turned it around and found two simple letters in blue ink, NO. The writing had been a little messed. It was not very clear but she could swear that it said the word of denial.
'No? What does that mean?'
She suddenly remember that she had asked him to answer with one word, either yes or no. Kagome unknowingly smiled to herself at the male's way of answering her.
'Maybe he's not so bad after all...' she chuckled and pulled out of the parking space to head to work.
From the third floor of the four-story building complex, the male known as Sesshoumaru Taishou watched her pulling away in her silver Jaguar.
'She's rather intriguing...'
He turned his fountain pen counter-clock wise to withdraw the tip of the pen. The silver haired male walked over to his desk and retrieved his cell phone and dialed a number.
He waited patiently for a gruff voice to sound from the other line.
"Yo?"
"Were you ever going to tell me you had an accident in my car?" Sesshoumaru felt agitation creep up his spine but his voice did not give anything away.
His younger brother, Inuyasha, was reckless, irresponsible, and ultimately, annoying. Sesshoumaru growled softly when he heard Inuyasha stammer.
"H-How did you find out?"
"A female came up to me asking if I was the driver who crashed into her,” Sesshoumaru paused for a second and then continued. “…on New Year's Eve,"
He didn't have the patience to listen to his brother's excuses like his father did. He sighed; his father spoiled Inuyasha greatly.
'No wonder he's an idiot,' Sesshoumaru commented darkly to himself.
He heard his brother's breathing hitch.
"I believe the woman isn't lying, Inuyasha. I lend my car for you to use it that night. What exactly happened?" He wasn't about to let his brother ruin his reputation of... of a being an honorable and responsible man.
"I just slammed into the rear of her car! She went skidding down and hit a lamp post... and it..." Inuyasha trailed off.
Sesshoumaru growled again. "Inuyasha, spit it out or I shall tell Father you used his computer in his office to download pornography." Sesshoumaru smirked when he heard his younger brother groan.
"The lamp post fell on her car roof, okay?! GOD!" he huffed.
Silence dragged between the two. Sesshoumaru closed his eyes, and rubbed the bridge of his nose with his free hand. "Why didn't you tell me?"
"Because you'll just hold it against me and never let me use your car!"
Sesshoumaru felt a headache growing. He did not like what he was hearing. A lamp post crashing down onto the driver's seat isn't something to be taken lightly. Why didn't he receive anything from his insurance company? He growled when it hit him.
"You bribed the hospital and insurance companies to hide what happened, didn't you?"
"... Yes. Bu-"
Sesshoumaru clenched his jaw and hung up on Inuyasha. He had heard enough.
"A waste of air," he said and sighed. He had to find the female and then he would have Inuyasha apologize and make him pay for the damages. For now, he was going to a business appointment with a company a third his size. He opened the hard black binder and skimmed over the contents.
"An appointment with Chango Corp.'s top negotiator... Miss Kagome Higurashi."
