Chapter 2 - Business Meeting or Not?
Previously...
"A waste of air," he said and sighed. He had to find the female and then he would have Inuyasha apologize and make him pay for the damages. For now, he was going to a business appointment with a company a third his size. He opened the hard black binder and skimmed over the contents.
"An appointment with Chango Corp.'s top negotiator... Higurashi Kagome-san."
Present...
"You're late Miss Kagome," a man in his early thirties chided the exhausted Kagome in front of her department lounge door.
"My apologies Naraku-san," Kagome bowed sincerely to her boss. She straightened her back and looked up at her boss, only to see his right hand rubbing his chin thoughtfully. She sighed dejectedly; she knew what he was thinking. It had to be something about how she was dressed. It was either 'You look lovely today' or 'Ah, a new pair stockings I see?' Kagome shuddered lightly. 'I don't know how that man knows when I am wearing new stockings, nor do I even want to know.'
"Are you cold Miss Kagome? Would you like to wear my blazer?" Naraku began to unbutton his dark navy Brioni blazer.
Kagome waved her hands in front of her, "No, no. That's alright Naraku-san, I'm not cold." She smiled warily, 'I'm just creeped out...' Besides, she didn't want to ruin his expensive suit. Her boss was one of the most eligible bachelors in Japan, the suits he wore to work or to anywhere for that matter, costs over seven grand.
"Well then, how about we go out for a cup of coffee?" Naraku extended out his arm for Kagome, who politely shook her head and declined his invitation.
"Naraku-san, have you forgotten? There's a very important meeting regarding a possible merger between our company and Taishou Inc." Chango Corp. had no vice president, for all the employees knew, Kagome had been Vice President the moment she helped Chango Corp. buy out several smaller companies. Oh no, she was not fierce with her competitors; she was smart. Instead of making enemies, she made friends with the opposing company Presidents and negotiators. It was much simpler for her and Chango Corp.'s targets.
"Ah, well I guess it can't be helped. Very well, carry on Miss Kagome," Naraku extended his hand in front of him, waiting for Kagome to put her hands in his. Kagome smiled as genuinely as she could, hoping her boss would not see how uncomfortable she was with him. Naraku nodded and brushed his lips against her smooth knuckles, "I'll be seeing you later. And I do hope you will accomplish what we want?"
"As always, Naraku-san," Kagome bowed once more to Naraku. She watched with relief gleaming out of her eyes as the mysteriously handsome male disappear behind the elevator door not too far from Kagome. Kagome sighed aloud, 'Will he ever stop pursuing me?' She pushed open the teak and marble door only to have it bump against something.
"Ow! Kagome!"
"Sango? What are you doing behind the door?" Kagome quickly squeezed into her department; Finances and Management. She was surprised to see her best friend hiding behind the door. "Wait... were you spying on me?" Kagome caught on quickly. She knew what everyone was thinking; 'She got her level only because the President like how she looks.' Very vile indeed, but hey, what can she do?
"I was wondering why you weren't in yet," Sango rubbed her nose carefully. "I was about to go outside to call you, but I saw you standing there talking with Naraku." She paused briefly and wiggled her nose, almost as if she was testing it to see if it works.
"So... And you were listening because?" Kagome folded her arms in front of her chest with a discerning look in her eyes.
Sango threw her hands up in the air and let out a exaggerated sigh, "Come on Kagome! You know Naraku wants you. Why don't you just go out with him?"
"Because Sango, he's my boss! I can't go out with my boss! I have very strict business and personal policy. You know that!" Kagome scolded her best friend and brushed past her out of frustration.
"Oh, come on Kagome. Don't be angry," Sango pouted and waited for Kagome to stop in her tracks. 'And she will sigh in three... two...' As if on cue, Kagome sighed mercifully. Sango grinned from ear to ear and rushed over to Kagome and hugged her from behind, "Aww! I love you Kagome!" Sango couldn't help herself smile goofily. They've been best of friends since the day Sango beat up a kid that was bullying Kagome in kindergarten. She did genuinely love Kagome. She was like a little sister to her. 'No one will ever bully you again as long as I'm around,' Sango laid her head on the back of Kagome's shoulder.
"Sango, come on now. We're supposed to be working!" Kagome patted Sango's intertwined hands in front of her stomach. She leaned her head back until her ear brushed against the back of Sango's head. "What are you thinking about now?"
"Nothing much, just wondering when did we become so close." Sango sighed pleasantly against Kagome's shoulder. She felt another pat on her hands from her best friend, urging her to let go of Kagome's body. "A little longer. I feel like we haven't been talking for a while, you know... we sort of lost contact with each other."
Kagome laughed merrily as if something, or perhaps someone amused her greatly. "Sango, you just came back from your honeymoon yesterday. Did you forget already?"
Sango gasped in realization, 'That's right! Miroku and I got married three weeks ago!' Sango released her grip of Kagome, only to bring her left hand in front of her face. The platinum and diamond band glistened brightly under the office lights. A tender smile grew on her face when she thought about their vacation to Barcelona. Sango missed the knowing smile Kagome threw at her and continued to dwell on her honeymoon past.
Kagome shook her head softly, "If you need me, I'll be at the meeting with a client. Call me if anything." She reached over her desk and grabbed several slim folders of paper and left Sango to her musing.
"Ah Kagome," Sango sighed dreamily, unaware that Kagome has left her alone. "I wish you were there. Miroku was so gentle and compassionate. Not to mention rough on the second try!" She finally looked up to see how Kagome would react to her mushy description of the first night of her honeymoon, only to find Kagome gone. Sango scanned the large department room with a twirl on her heel, "Kagome?" A small pout formed on her face when it finally occurred to her; 'She left me!'

"Taishou-san, your client Higurashi Kagome-san has arrived," a male voice buzzed through the speaker of the sleek black office phone on Sesshoumaru's desk.
Sesshoumaru nodded to himself and reached for his secretary's number, "Yes, bring her in." He didn't want to even bother with his father's business at the moment. He just spent the past hour calling his insurance company to find out what was the female's name. 'Honestly Inuyasha. You always have to have me clean up the messes you make.' Sesshoumaru was tired of his immature and irresponsible half brother. He leaned back against his comfortable, black leather chair and closed his eyes for a brief moment. He did have a few minutes to relax before his client comes in; it was a long walk from front desk to his office.
Sesshoumaru felt himself swallow nervously at the sudden image of the female's strangely bright cerulean eyes. He chuckled humorlessly, 'To think, I, Sesshoumaru Taishou would refuse to look at someone's eyes.' It was true after all. The moment he saw her eyes; his lungs somehow refused to work. Her bright blue hues nearly drowned the unprepared aristocrat. He never in his life adverted his gaze to suit his needs. He always glared enough to make his targets advert their gaze. 'That was a first. It will not happen again. When I see her again I'll be sure to make her the one who look the other way.' Did he speak too soon?
Knock Knock Knock! 'Ah this, Kagome Higurashi is here.' Sesshoumaru straightened his suit and headed to his double door, made of the best genuine mahogany wood he could find. He gripped the cold metallic handle for a brief second; collecting his thoughts. He nodded softly to himself and turned the knob and swung the door open. "Welcome to Taishou Inc., Higu-," Sesshoumaru looked up to find the same blue eyes he was reflecting on just moments before.
'Oh the irony!' Sesshoumaru felt a very familiar problem stir up. He found himself unable to break away from her oceanic depths; it was drowning him in its warm waters all over again. He felt his chest still; in shock from her sudden appearance or somewhat pleased that he was able to see her beautiful gems again. Did it really matter anyway? Either way, it's still saying he stopped breathing. He watched the woman known as Kagome cock her head to the side softly before her magnificent eyes widen in realization.
"You're the CEO of Taishou Inc.?!" Kagome gasped incredibly. She saw his amber eyes twitch slightly, his other facial features remained still as a rock. Kagome raised an eyebrow questionably, "... Are you alright?" She swallowed nervously, that look of his really unnerved her. It wasn't a happy stare, or a sad, or shocked, or any emotion she knew whatsoever. If it was possible, it looked liked his face was carved from fine marble! Still rather nervous she didn't get a response from the so called CEO or Vice President of Taishou Inc., she raised her free hand dared herself to poke him on his chest. Kagome tried to swallow down her anxiety, but it was very stubborn. Her slender hand shakily closed in the distance between them, '... Did he freeze?'
"Are you okay, Taishou-san?" Kagome gulped and jabbed her finger on the middle of his chest, causing the handsome aristocrat to jump; if you can call it a jump, in shock. His body tensed for a brief second before relaxing and shoving his hand in front of his reddening face.
"My apologies, Higurashi-san. Please come in," Sesshoumaru gritted between his teeth, as calmly as he could at the moment. Oh, that wasn't much. He was screaming inside. 'Oh dear lord, what the hell was that? Didn't I just tell myself she would be the one to look the other way?!' He opened his office door wider and glided his arm into the office, showing her the way to his desk. Sesshoumaru bit back his tongue and forced to put on a calm mask. Boy was he messing it up!
Kagome tittered nervously at his rather chaotic facial expression. He looked like he was about to explode from the inside out! 'Is he constipated?' Kagome couldn't help but wonder. 'The poor guy has to be constipated! He was perfectly fine when I saw him this morning!' Kagome rummaged through her purse and pulled out her Ex-Lax Maximum Strength Stimulant Laxative pills and placed it on her lap. She waited patiently for Sesshoumaru to sit in chair before she handed him the small four pills. "Here," Kagome smiled warmly and placed the unopened paper packaged pills on his table.
"I won't mind waiting until you... uhm, have a bowel movement." She raised both her eye brows at the words bowel movement. Kagome purposely used the medical, or rather polite term for going to go release the unwanted waste.
"What?" Sesshoumaru raised an elegant eyebrow questionably. He picked up the small paper package and scanned over the words. 'Relieves occasional constipation (irregularity). Generally produces bowel movement in 6 to 12 hours.' His eyes widened in awe, 'CONSTIPATION?!' Sesshoumaru tried to swallow his upcoming outburst, but it wouldn't have it. "What makes you think I'm constipated?!" Sesshoumaru hissed. Oh how he hated saying that stupid word; constipated. What he hated more was that someone thought he looked constipated!
"Your face looked all scrunched together! You did look constipated!" Kagome shot up from her seat and folded her arms in front of chest. She didn't know why he looked that way, she was being polite and trying to help the poor guy. "You know! You can at least thank me for offering you the tablets. It's the thought that counts!"
"What thought! You thought I was constipated! Why should I thank you for that?" This was not looking up for his reputation. If word gets out he, the emotionless, merciless Sesshoumaru Taishou actually gets constipated, he would be mocked endlessly by his clients. If they dare that is. But this was something he wouldn't risk. "How much to keep you from spreading this nonsense?"
"What? What do you mean by 'How much?'" Kagome tilted her head to see him pull out his checkbook from the corner of her eye. "What are you doing?"
"Will one million yen do?" Sesshoumaru looked up to find Kagome's head cocked to the side. She almost looked confused. "Well, will it do?"
"One million yen to merge our companies? We haven't even-" Kagome sat down on the chair in front of his desk and began to open her folder.
"No, Miss Higurashi. Will one million yen be good enough to keep you from spreading this nonsense around?" Sesshoumaru's left eye twitched in slight annoyance. He couldn't intimidate his targets without staring at them with his eyes. Without his eyes, he was powerless in the unforgiven business world.
Kagome's eyes widen automatically. From what Sesshoumaru can tell, it was of shock, followed by anger, then disappointment. 'What a beautiful face she has,' Sesshoumaru couldn't help but comment to himself. True, he has had outings with models but they all appear fake and materialistic. 'Not to mention too skinny to be called from the human species.' He narrowed his eyes briefly when he realized he was distracting himself from the enigma in front of him. "Well?"
"I don't know what to say," Kagome closed her opened binder and looked down at her lap; her bangs shielding her magnificent eyes from his view.
"It is simple. You take the one million yen and tell no one of this constipation business, and we will talk business," Sesshoumaru signed the check swiftly and glided the hefty check to Kagome. He patiently waited for her to react. He wasn't scared that she'll take it and run. There are as many as three hundred undercover security guards around his family company; catching her would be like catching a mouse in room full of cats.
Kagome looked at the check and stared at it with an emotion Sesshoumaru couldn't make out. She took the check in her slender hands and studied it. Her eyes darted between him and the check in her hands. "You know, if you would have just asked I wouldn't have said a word. But now that you tried to bribe me," Kagome tore the check in half and flicked the now useless piece of paper from her hands. "Now, I will email and call every business company I know and tell them," her eyes glowed with large amounts of animosity.
"You wouldn't," Sesshoumaru growled. He slammed his hands on his desk when he saw her arrogant nod. He walked around his desk and grabbed Kagome's wrist roughly and pulled her to her feet. "I'll repeat, and this time. I want the proper answer. You will keep your mouth shut," Sesshoumaru glared down at Kagome. He did find her very attractive, but she was crossing the line. No business man in their right mind would try to cross Sesshoumaru. He wasn't about to let a female destroy his reputation with a false statement.
"Same answer, I would." Kagome smirked arrogantly once more. Kagome herself, didn't know why she wanted to challenge the handsome male in front of her. It didn't occur to her at all that he could be the link to finding the irresponsible driver she was searching for. No, all that mattered now was making the prideful male in front of her apologize for attempting to bribe her. 'No one bribes Kagome Higurashi!'
Kagome reached into her purse with her free arm and snatched her cellphone and speed dialed the number three. "You know, the person I'm calling will do this small favor for me. I'm sure she'll spread the word quickly."
Sesshoumaru tightened his grip on her wrist, 'She is hard to bribe.' He growled softly and jerked her arm behind him; forcing her body for stumble into him. He took advantage of the moment and ripped her cellphone away from her hand. 'Hello? Kagome?' He heard from the other line. Sesshoumaru ignored the person and promptly ended the call. He turned his attention back to Kagome, who was struggling to release his grip on her wrist.
"You know this hurts!" Kagome loudly complained. Oddly enough, she found it... exciting. She remember the effect his touch had on her from their first encounter. Surprisingly, the first encounter was skin on clothes contact, oh but now; it was skin on skin. It was a petty and senseless thought, but nonetheless it was invoking emotions she thought would never happen to her. She looked up to find him staring incredulously at her. Kagome squirmed under his gaze and tittered nervously, 'Maybe I went a little overboard...'
Sesshoumaru remained silent, for some reason her cerulean depths are not affecting him like it was before. He felt as if he has control over his emotions, the control that would strike fear in the hearts of his competitors with one glance. "What do you want?" His voice was cold and demeaning; it sent waves of chills up Kagome's spine.
Kagome gulped nervously, 'I did it this time...' She never expected herself to react the way she did. What happened to her? Where was her charming and polite self? How did her defiant and fiery nature slip out when it needed to be concealed the most? This time, she really blew the business deal up. He would never agree to merge a section of Chango Corp. and Taishou Inc. now. "Heh," Kagome smiled sheepishly; a guilty look plastered on her face. "I'm sorry Taishou-san, where are my manners. I promise I will not tell a soul what has happened here, free of charge. No catch!"
Sesshoumaru slowly softened his grip on her wrist, but did not release it completely. He was somewhat confused why she had a sudden change of heart. "Why did you threaten me. You know what I can do in the business world, don't you?" He saw her nod innocently, but it wasn't an act. It seems to him that she actually learned her lesson, like a puppy caught chewing a brand new pair of leather shoes. 'What in the world?' But he had to admit, she looked rather adorable in her current state.
"I know what you can do Taishou-san. I guess that's one of the reasons why I reacted the way I did. In other words, I don't like bribery. It's a very underhand method to me," Kagome smiled apologetically. "I'm very sorry Taishou-san. I'll understand if you're not going to want a brief on our company merging." It was true after all. She had just threatened one of the world's biggest companies without realizing it until it was far too late. 'Naraku-san's going to kill me,' Kagome sighed dejectedly.
All the while Kagome was rambling on, Sesshoumaru couldn't bring himself to look away. He saw her fiery spirit reflect in her eyes when she admitted she was not a fan of bribery. She was no ordinary business woman, he realized. 'She's a little too young to be a big company's top negotiator?' He was rather curious how old she was, he guessed not much older than twenty-five, but he can be very wrong. After all, looks can be deceiving. "If you don't mind me asking, how old are you Higurashi-san?"
Kagome was baffled by him asking such a personal question. 'Why do I look old?' She wanted to retort but thought better of it. "Twenty-two, why are you asking?"
"Hn," Sesshoumaru nodded lightly. 'So, I am right after all. Close to it at least.' He was even more curious now. "How did you manage to get one of your company's top positions at your age?" He studied her body carefully. Kagome did indeed have a slightly above average body, nothing too amazing at first glance; so it couldn't have been her sleeping with her boss. Sesshoumaru inwardly snorted, 'I doubt she is one of those types.'
"My father worked at that spot for years under my boss's grandfather. I guess the Higurashi family has a good name within Chango Corp.'s company," Kagome felt a bittersweet taste grow in her mouth. She missed her father greatly, ever since his death Kagome felt rather man-less in her life. He was her main source of a so called male comfort, no not in a lawbreaking way. But instead, in the arms of a man you love is a feeling far greater than the emotion from an embrace of a woman.
"So you inherited the position?" Sesshoumaru pressed on, unaware of her trekking down memory lane. He watched and listened with silent admiration as she described how she first started as a secretary, then somehow ended up attending the meetings and how she naturally negotiated with the company clients until agreement. "Ah, so you didn't sleep with your boss," Sesshoumaru commented mainly to himself, but was utterly unaware he said the insulting sentence aloud.
"What?!" Kagome screeched. "How dare you?! Do I look like the type to sleep with someone to get something I want?!" She jerked her wrist away from his touch as if his hand was on fire. She knew her face was growing a deeper shade of red by the minute; she felt it. 'Unbelievable!' Kagome narrowed her eyes at the confused Sesshoumaru.
"Did I say that aloud?" Sesshoumaru somewhat cautiously asked. 'Oh boy...' He swallowed nervously. He had every right to be nervous! He believed people when they say 'Hell hath no fury like a woman's scorned.' Not to mention he was mentally and physically attracted to this unique female in front of him.
"What do you think?!" Kagome retorted with malice in her voice. 'Oh how I wish to rip you into pieces right now!!' She was seething with anger. She couldn't believe that, that many people thought that she got to her position because she slept with her boss! Was it her fault that business runs naturally in her blood? 'First my co-workers, now my client. What, oh what is this world coming to?!'
"Calm down, Higurashi-san. I didn't mean it the way it sounds," Sesshoumaru was trying his best to remain calm once more in front of Kagome. But he soon realized, her scorn was the worse of all. He watched questionably when she slumped down onto the chair and grabbed the notepad and pen by his desk. He heard her mumble a few incoherent words and his eyes widen with horror when she began stabbing the notepad with the ink pen. 'Is this considered to be scorn?' Sesshoumaru right eye twitched several times. "Higurashi-san?" He was rather worried if she was traumatized when she was young. He never would've expected to see her react this way.
"Stupid... jerk," Kagome sudden stopped and her head shot up and glared at Sesshoumaru with dark, fiery eyes, which potentially scared the living daylights out of him. He would've jumped up at her sudden glare, but he was still too shocked to be able to move.
"Enough already, Higurashi-san," Sesshoumaru cautiously patted Kagome's shoulder. "I apologize once more. It was ungentlemanly act on my part." He felt, for some odd reason, the way she just reacted was something more than what he just said. 'Curiosity kills the cat,' he reminded himself. But he couldn't help but wonder what happened to the exquisite little vixen. Sesshoumaru raised a questioning eyebrow when he saw her pout, in a rather sullen way at that.
"Tell me, why does everyone think I slept with my boss to get the position I have now? I mean, look at me!" Kagome shot up from her chair, causing it to screech loudly against the expensive wooden floor. The tiny little hairs on the back of Sesshoumaru's neck rose at her sudden change of attitude, and the damaging screech to his sensitive ears.
"And what is wrong with you, Higurashi-san?" Sesshoumaru humored her. He thought this is what she needed, a little venting and she'll be her normal self again. 'But what is her normal self? I barely know her and yet... I feel like I've known her all my life.' He inwardly snorted at his own comment; he seems to have just contradicted himself. He hummed briefly to himself as he studied her, 'She is a little vixen isn't she?' He knew for sure she didn't have the body of the models he dated, but it didn't matter to him. She was so proportionate and contradicting, it was almost unreal. Dark hair is often paired with brown eyes, and yet hers were a bright cerulean blue. Her rosy pink lips stood out from her milky skin, yet not in a way that makes her look deathly or plastered her face with makeup. 'Is it even possible to have such a combination of traits?'
"I don't know what's wrong with me!" Kagome was beyond frustrated; she needs to vent, and immediately at that. "My co-workers think I slept with my boss. My best friend thinks I should go out with my boss when I strictly said no personal business in business business! And this stupid driver I'm looking for is nowhere to be found! " Yes, she was venting to the point she was beginning not to make sense. But then again, it didn't matter to Sesshoumaru. All he was focused on was her eyes, her spellbinding eyes that captured his very soul. Maybe she was a witch, eh?
"Perhaps, they are jealous," Sesshoumaru offered nonchalantly. He found himself trailing his eyes down from her eyes down to her nose and stopping at her lush lips.
"Jealous of what? Me? What is there to be jealous of?" Kagome looked down at her body, trying to find something out of the ordinary, a good one at that. But she found none. She felt very... normal. Just like any other person walking in the streets. She didn't feel like she had a killer body, in truth she doesn't. She didn't feel like she was beyond beautiful, she never found it necessary to keep thinking about these petty little things. So wrapped in her search, she missed Sesshoumaru moving towards her. "There's nothing to be jealous of! I'm... normal."
Sesshoumaru inched closer and closer to Kagome, as if he's under a spell. Not thinking, not necessary moving other than to reach his destination. He really couldn't help it this time. The more she insists she looked average, the more he wanted to tell her otherwise. He brought his right hand to her lower back and pulled her softly into her body. The stunned Kagome could only look up and stare with wide eyes. "No, I find you to be the most attractive of all. Don't you agree, Kagome?" He let her name roll off the tip of his tongue. How delicious it must've tasted.
"Bauh-uh-ehh..." Kagome couldn't form words at all. Her mouth and throat felt as dry as a desert, her brain was obviously overloading. She sucked in a sharp breath when she saw Sesshoumaru's face inch closer... and closer to her own. 'Oh god,' She swallowed breathlessly. She didn't know how to think. Should she be happy that such a handsome man wants to kiss her or, should she stick to her plan of keeping her business and personal policy. "Sess..." She wanted to whisper his name, but she couldn't bring herself to. Kagome knew he left an opportunity for her to stop him, or else he wouldn't inch closer so slowly. 'What should I do?'
Kagome felt her eyes close automatically without warning. 'A kiss,' her heart skipped a beat. She could taste his warm, moist breath upon hers. It was such a distinct smell and taste, it sent her senses into overdrive. No matter how hard she might try in the future, she believes she would never forget this unique scent. Their lips were millimeters apart, each breathing the air of the other. At this point, both were unwilling to leave without having a taste of sweet, soft lips.
"As for the personal and business policy, would you change your mind if I were to pursue you?" Sesshoumaru whispered with enamor at every corner of his voice. "Would you?" He whispered again and closed in what was left of the distance, joining their lips in a blissful kiss. He glowered with pride with he heard her whimper weakly. But that moment was short lived. Way too short for Sesshoumaru's liking.
Kagome's head finally registered what was going on between them, thanks to all that adrenaline pounding in her ears. She found herself wanting to run away from the current situation, she had to leave... and now. "I should be going," Kagome muttered incoherently and grabbed her purse and slammed the door behind her, leaving Sesshoumaru yearning for a deeper kiss.
Sesshoumaru sighed and shook his head, "What was I doing?" He didn't regret it, no in fact he enjoyed the tiny kiss. But, he never thought to give his first kiss to a woman with beautiful eyes on the first day meeting each other. Yes, first kiss. Sure, he dated models and whatnot, but they didn't get the satisfaction of dirtying him with their bodies.
Sesshoumaru couldn't help but smile genuinely, "She... is pure. And I want more." He unknowingly brought the hand that was holding her cellphone to his view, then looked up at his office door. He concluded that she must've ran down the stairs and out into the streets already. Oh this is a beautiful opportunity, "I shall return this to her in person..."
