Don’t Go
Chapter one
“Finally some time to myself…” Kagome sighed as she plopped down onto her bed after shutting the door lightly behind her. She pointlessly glanced at her clock already knowing around what time it was.
“As short as it is…I did promise Inuyasha that I would be back tomorrow.”
The orange glow of the sunset poured in through her bedroom window. Kagome Higurashi had only been away for a couple of days and was taking her sweet time getting back to the feudal Era.
“All that studying has made me so tired…”She let out a yawn as she leaned back and sunk deep into her sheets. Sleep was welcoming her with open arms…
...ooo...Inuyasha leaned his head back against the lip of the well. The sun was fully set so darkness reigned over the clearing.
“only a couple more hours…”He mumbled dryly to himself "…until I can go looking for the shards again.”
I wish kagome didn’t have to leave so often, she’s so lazy! I know it hasn’t been that long but even with the others here it can get kind of lonely…Inuyasha sighed and put his elbow on his knee as a head rest.Heh, I’m so pathetic, your growing weak Inuyasha- you don’t NEED anyone! Or do I?. Do I really need her…He closed his eyes and grinned; ears perked up for any sign of oncoming danger…or even familiarity?
Loud swooshing noises could be heard in the distance, fading in and out of range – like an echo with no source.Inuyasha’s eyes snapped open as he heard light footsteps approaching.“Inuyasha…”He knew that voice ,the voice that used to be so welcoming but now sounded so cold and bitter…maybe even foreign…Kikyo.
...ooo...
“He clearly loves her Miroku! Can’t you tell?” Sango raised her eyebrows at the still silent monk. ”Geeze,” She continued after prodding a bit more at the fire. “if you haven’t noticed that yet your stupider than I thought you were…”
“Sango,” His voice was loud and stern. “you shouldn’t talk about Inuyasha like that! If he truly loved her he would have told us by now!”
In response to Sango’s puzzled look he winked. “What are you talking about …..?” Sango asked more to the fire than to Miroku. Miroku waved a hand for her to come closer. After a moments hesitation Sango curiously obeyed.
“Listen Sango,” Miroku whispered “You know that I agree with you on this whole Inuyasha and Kagome thing, right?
“Why are you whispering?” Sango questioned loudly.
“SHHHHHHHHHHHH! Inuyasha could be listening...you never know! We must be cautious of his wandering fist and flaming temper.”
“OH! For Kami’s sake Miroku!” Sango stepped back.
"You know completely well that Inuyasha’s gone to the bone eaters well to wait for Kagome.”
She favored him a reassuring look.
“But y-" Miroku began to protest
“It’s o.k. ,I think were fine until morning.”
Miroku’s confident look faded into a charming grin.
“If you insist my dear Sango”
“don’t start Miroku…”
Miroku let out a chuckle and retreated back to the other side of the room where Kaede was making ointments. She was oblivious to Miroku’s and Sango’s conversation as she pursed her lips in concentration.
Sango got up and stared out the window of the hut only to be greeted with darkness. Everyone was asleep but three of them.
“…Inuyasha has been gone for a while. I’m going to go tell him to come in, Kagome wont be back until morning and him moping around the well waiting for Kagome, definitely isn’t going to make her return any faster” Sango turned to face Miroku.
“ I agree.” He stated.“Waiting for her will just make it appear longer, Its late into the night and its safest inside…not that Inuyasha will have any trouble, its just that people are all out to kill him these days.”
“Great!” Sango let out with a cheery smile. "Then I’ll be right back!”
The bamboo roll flapped back across the door behind her as she strolled out of the hut. Dead leaves crushed under her feet as she made her way towards the seemingly remote forest.
She was almost at the clearing when she saw them…
Sango quickly took one step to the side and was immediately hidden behind a shady tree ; she peeked over the edge of it. They were speaking; it looks like they were arguing. Although Sango could hear them talking she couldn’t make out exactly what they were saying.
what is kikyo doing here…should I be watching this?...Inuyasha must be pretty distracted to not have sensed me by now...
Now Kikyo was shouting and Sango would have to be deaf not to hear. As the harsh word were spoken a look of horror washed over Sango’s face.
...ooo...
Kikyo’s raven hair sparkled in the moonlight.
“Inuyasha.” This time she spoke louder
“Kikyo…” Inuyasha spoke softly. "why are you here?” He questioned more stern.
“Here on this earth…I no longer have a meaningful purpose,” Kikyo began, turning to stare into the darkness of the forest that surrounded them. "But me finding you here…is for us both to fulfill our destiny
A sneaky smile crept across her pale lips.
“We were supposed to be together, so we will be together. Is that not what you wanted Inuyasha?”
"Kikyo…things change…a lot has happened since…” The hanyou’s hurt expression changed quickly into that of a confused one.
“What do you mean destiny? Kikyo, you have to leave here.”
The priestess shot back around to reveal her determined look.
Inuyasha looked away and shut his eyes tight.
Kikyo is sounding more desperate than usual, why is she still here? She can’t FULFILL anything! What the hell…
He raised his gaze to the woman before him, still not willing to stand up and look her eye to eye, it hurt too much. This was the person he thought he knew, she was never like this. His eyes turned cold and Kikyo’s smile faded into a thin line and her eyes to a harsh glare at the thought of his rejection. Kikyo slowly opened her mouth to speak…
“You have to leave!” He repeated "You can’t stay he-"
“THEN WHERE WILL I GO?” Kikyo cut in looking absolutely furious that he would turn down the thought of them being together.
Inuyasha looked away,
Back to where you came from He thought. He would never say it.
“This is the only way Inuyasha,” she continued, not even waiting for his answer.
“Together in hell we will fulfill our destiny.”
...ooo...
Sango was speechless.
Hell…” She and Inuyasha both managed to mutter.
...ooo...
“Kikyo…” He whispered, his golden orbs peering into her brown ones. “No, I am not leaving with you. I can’t!”
Kikyo shot him an evil glare her eyes piercing into his.
“Unfortunately for you, I wasn’t asking.”
Inuyasha’s eyes widened but before he could even object a red light came seeping out of Kikyo.
it’s so bright, what’s happening…?
Within seconds the light engulfed them both. Inuyasha heard a faint cry in the distance before his vision went blank and sweat poured down the side of his face. It became very, very hot.
...ooo...
Sango listened in horror. She turned her back against the tree.
“Unfortunately for you, I wasn’t asking.” Kikyo could be heard in front of her.
Sango stiffened from the firmness in her voice. She blinked hard.
This cant be happening…not to Inuyasha .Kikyo doesn’t have the power to-
A red glow caught the corner of her eye and she swung around to face the well.
No…” Sango shook her head in disbelief, tears welling in her eyes. Unconsciously her hand slowly reached ahead of her as if to tear Kikyo away from him.
“NO!” she stepped out from the tree, to only be greeted with a blinding flash of red light. She fell to the ground in shock. When she opened her eyes the clearing was silent.
Moonlight painted the outline of the tree’s surrounding the well. A small crater replaced where Inuyasha and Kikyo once stood. Her friend was gone.
“Inuyasha…?” Sango whispered into the shadow, breathing in the chill of the night air. Realization struck her with force and she found herself running as fast as her legs would carry her in the direction of Kaede’s village. She had to find someone, and fast.
