CHAPTER 1: "The New Job"

"Hello Inu? Are you still there?" Miroku asked from the other line of the phone.

Inu Yasha was still in a total shock. Miroku have just told him that a plane had crashed. Not just any other plane. It is the same plane where his girlfriend, Kikyou, was in.

He stood there as if the greatest wizard of all had petrified him (O.o). Even the wind didn't dare to move. The whole room was dark. It was only lighten up by a dim light from the moon through the glass window. The room was so silent you would think the time had stopped except for the fact that you could still hear the ticking of the clock, making the room uncomfortable.

He was still standing there, totally stunned. He didn't notice that he was still holding the receiver and there was still a person on the other line. His eyes stared at the roses in the bluish china vase beside the phone unfocused.

"Inu Yasha? Hello? Inu… umm… look, I'm really sorry I shocked you… It's just that-

"It's all right Miroku." Inuyasha cut him. "I just need to hang up now. By the way, thanks for… for telling me. B-bye."

And then the line was cut. Miroku was still holding the receiver. Inuyasha's last response trembled a little but his voice is still deep and firm. You could tell that he's just trying to be stronger. Trouble must have a magnet on him, and maybe he always fight with others, but he is really weak for these kinds of things.

Kikyo Hasana was his childhood friend and became Inuyasha's girlfriend when they were in freshmen. He has very few friends meaning that each one of them is so special to him, and that would also mean that one's death, especially Kikyo's, is a great lost to him.

Miroku Frickgent, his best bud, is starting to feel guilty and regretting why he had told him about his girlfriend's sudden death.

"Sheeesh! I'm starting to regret all those things I told him, but on the other hand, I think it's better than to let him expect for NOTHING coming home tonight." He sighed deeply while setting down the phone's receiver.

"What do you mean I'm fired?!" Kagome asked fighting tears back. She was talking to the manager of the fast food chain she was working at.

"Well you see, after you scolded your cousi- I mean, our boss, she really got pissed off and… umm... the fact that you two being cousin didn't stop her from firing you."

"But I didn't scold at her!!! I just asked her what the heck she was doing at my bag!!!" Kagome sat down on a chair, clenching her fist on her lap, glaring on her knees. Tears were starting to cloud her hazel eyes.

"I'm really sorry Kagome... but that was Ms. Yura told me. You also have to leave soon. She… she said that if she still finds you here when she arrives, I'm going to be kicked out too." The manager said worriedly.

"That wench…" mumbled Kagome. At these words she got up from the chair and went to the counter to grab her things. She stormed outside the fast food chain angrily, almost knocking down all the customers that's on her way.

The manager mumbled several apologies to those whom were almost knocked down by Kagome. She looked at her retreating back and called out, "Hey Kagome!! How `bout your last payment?!!"

Kagome paused and looked back at the manager.

"Put it inside a hamburger and make her eat it." Kagome answered sarcastically waving her hand as a sign of `goodbye' as she continues her way.

As Kagome walked down the street, thoughts were starting to creep up on her.

`What would I do now? I already registered my name to a new school to continue my studies, and there are new medications required for my mother. Souta's school is starting to complain asking when I will pay Souta's school fees. Oh drats! I was lucky that Yura gave me a job even though I'm just sixteen and now I've ruined everything!! I'm only getting half paid at the mansion I was working because I only work there at night and there are no other vacancies due to so many employees working for them.'

Kagome suddenly stopped. She didn't notice that her feet have just carried her to her destination. She stood there in front of the main gate, staring at the very big mansion. She's been working here for months but the mansion never fails to make her admire its features.

The mansion stood on a hill over looking the village. There are numerous windows and huge oak doors visible in front. The walls are painted in ochre and the roofs are colored in deep madder. The mansion's grounds are covered in green Bermuda grass except for the pathway that is made of bricks where Kagome stood and leads to the huge oak door that is the main entrance.

Her gaze went to the farther left side of the estate. She's in awe when she saw that the main entrance of the mansion's maze garden had started to bloom and looked as fascinating as ever. At the farther right side was just a plain lawn with a small lake. The lake was shimmering even though it was dark due to the moon's dim light, making it look like a pool of brilliant diamonds. It was surrounded with many blooming trees of cherry blossoms, and the petals that are flying through the air due to the wind making the view more peaceful and beautiful. She sighed deeply as she enters the mansion.

"Oh I'm really sorry to hear that Kagome-chan…" Rin said thoughtfully standing in front of Kagome. She was holding Kagome's hand as a way to show her sympathy.

Rin Hana is also a maid, same to Kagome. She's two years old than her but somehow you would think she's a lot younger in some other way. Kagome is a head taller than her. She has a warm-chocolate-colored eyes and a soft, black shoulder-length hair. All people in the mansion are her friends. No one can resist this sweet little girl with her cheerful self every time she talks and socialize with them. She never fails to make friends and everyone happy. Even the great, ice-cold-heart Sesshoumaru-sama has been melted by Rin and became her friend, even though he won't admit it.

Kagome was sitting on a chair in the kitchen. She had just told Rin about what happened recently.

"Yeah… now I don't know what I am going to do. I don't have much money for all our expenses I have to pay." Kagome replied with a sigh.

"Hey! I know! Are you a good cook?" asked Rin. Her usual cheerful smile had appeared again.

"Well, I dunno, maybe. I really don't know but when I was still studying, my friends always say that I'm quite good. Why are you asking?" Kagome asked with a puzzled look.

"Great!! Well you see, Jeourumaru-sama, the mansion's chef, has to go on vacation due to his older brother's condition. He'll be out for a while so maybe you could replace him for a moment, at the same time, you could still earn money while finding a new job!!" Rin answered cheerfully.

"Well, I don't know, if our boss will agree about that." Kagome sighed with disappointment.

"Of course he'll agree!! Mr. Yaju is a very kind person! And maybe he'll let you study too if you make a good impression about your cooking!! He really likes food a lot!" Rin exclaimed enthusiastically.

"What do you mean he'll let me study too?" asked Kagome.

"Oh! Did I forget to tell you? You see, Mr. Yaju was so happy when he found out that

Sesshoumaru-sama and I became friends, and he also found out that I'm just fourteen so he made me continue my studies with Sessoumaru-sama's very same school!" Rin answered happily.

"Well, I think you deserved it because what you did to Sesshoumaru is a complete miracle. And to think that I'm just new here and haven't met any of the family members yet, it's so impossible to believe for Mr. Yaju to give a scholarship just like that." Kagome said sadly, staring down on the floor.

What she said about `haven't met any of the family members' is true due to she only works there every night for the past few months, and every time she arrives, all the family are either upstairs sleeping in their room or still upstairs doing anything a rich person would like to do.

"Don't worry Kagome-chan. I'll ask Sesshoumaru-sama if he could ask his father to hire you as the temporary cook. Rin said cheerfully while leaving the kitchen skipping like a child. Kagome just stared blankly at her retreating back.

"So Sesshoumaru-sama can you do it? Please? Please? Please?" Rin asked hopefully.

"No." Sesshoumaru answered coldly. He didn't even bother to look up from his book He was sitting on the chair of the mansion's library desk like a big boss.

"Why?" Rin asked like a child.

"When I said no, that means NO, don't you understand that, Rin?" Sesshoumaru answered dully.

"Please?"

"No."

"Please?"

"No."

"Please?"

"Rin. I speak the same language like the one you're using right now. I can't seem to think why you can't understand the two-letter word I'm telling you." Sesshoumaru said, still not bothering to look up from his book.

Then silence came.

Sesshoumaru: "….?" (-_-)?

Rin: "…" (n__n)

Sesshoumaru: "… (sweat dropped)" (-_-);

Rin: "…"(n__n)

Sesshoumaru: "…" >.<;;

Rin: "…?" (n__n)?

"*sigh* Why are you still smiling?" Sessoumaru asked Rin, now closing the book and for the first time that moment, bothering to look up and saw a super-smiling Rin.

"…" n__n

Still, no response.

"*sigh* OK FINE!! FINE!! I'll do it!! Just. Stop. It… its so annoying."

"Yipee!!"

"But I tell you, Father is very sensitive about food. If this friend of yours messes up, I can't do any thing about it." Sesshoumaru said while walking away from the library, still eyes are closed (I wonder how he does that w/o tripping over ^_<;)

As usual, Rin just followed him and replied with a smile.

"I told you! Everything will be fine! Now our only problem left is about your stable job." Rin exclaimed enthusiastically as usual.

"But Rin, if rich people like Mr. Yaju is that sensitive about food, how do you expect me to fill in his expectations?"

They were talking at the second floor landing of the mansion, just a few steps from the library's door. Kagome was on her way downstairs when she met up with Rin and told her about the good news.

"Oh, and don't worry Kagome, you'll do fine," said Rin. "Let me tell you this, Jeourmarou-sama is not that good. I think he really stinks at cooking. And to think that Mr. Yaju is a very kind person, I'm 99.9% sure that he's just pretending that he likes his cooking!" Rin said as a matter-of-factly, in a child way of course.

"Kagome just smiled softly at Rin's encouragement. She really appreciates her helps and realizes how can she would manage with out her.

"Thanks Rin-chan. Thank you very much. I'll go now. You know, I have to do my laundry. And I think you should go to bed now. You finished all your chores, right?" Kagome asked.

" Yeah… but its so late in the evening, do you still have to do that?"

"Of course! That's why they hired me, honey. And you're the one who said it's already late, so go to your room now. Come on, come on, down to your bed." Kagome shooed her gently away like a mother to her child as she proceeds downstairs.

Rin looked at Kagome's retreating back and caught up something in her mind.

"Say, Kagome-chan, if you happen to meet sir Inuyasha, be sure not to make him angry or something. You see, he's finally coming home tonight, after this few months. He's a bit rude and has an attitude and I think its much more worse now `cause his still upset about something. So be sure to be much more patient to him, `kay?" Rin said while approaching the other staircase that leads to the maids' dorm.

"Sure thing." Kagome called back while walking downstairs.

"…" she paused.

"Hey wait…who's Inuyasha?" Kagome asked to no one in particular except herself.
