Haunted by Evanescence
Long, lost, words, whisper slowly, to me,
Still, can't, find what keeps me here,
When all, this, time I’ve been so hollow, inside,
I know you're still there
Watching me, wanting me,
I can feel you pull me down
Fearing you, loving you,
I won't let you pull me down
Hunting, you, I can smell you,
Alive,
Your, heart, pounding in my head
Watching me, wanting me,
I can feel you pull me down
Saving me, raping me
Watching me

Watching me, wanting me,

Fearing you, loving you
I won't let you pull me down
Naraku stood upon the porch of his wooden palace. He stared out towards the endless world before him. She's back... was the only thought that rang through his mind. The only creature that was able to touch his cold heart. Her tender smile and emotion filled eyes that watched him with such caring that it often took him by surprise. The youkai frowned, his crimson eyes flashing with such darkness that it would have crushed the soul of any who saw it. He had lost her those years ago and this time... he was determined that the past would not repeat itself.
Aliya clung tightly to arms of the okami, Koga as she watched the world pass them. The young woman pressed her body against his to keep herself warm from the cool early morning air. During their journey to his den in the mountains, the two remained quiet. The young woman rested her head on the chest of the okami. Why would Inuyasha give me to Koga? Does he feel that something bad is going to happen? As she was deep in thought, Aliya began to rub Koga's muscular forearm with her fingertip.
The okami looked down at the young woman he carried in his arms. She seemed lost in her own thoughts which he could understand. She was being carried off by a man she barely knew. But he knew even if she didn't that Inuyasha probably felt that he had no choice. Koga frowned as this thought danced through his mind. If Inuyasha felt that he could not protect her from Naraku what makes him think that I can? What is so special about her? With that thought on his mind, he looked down at her.
Koga could tell that she was quite pretty. Oddly prettier than any female demon he had seen although it wasn't her physical beauty that struck him. She had a beautiful aura about her as if nothing in this world could touch her. Aliya yawned softly and closed her eyes. Koga sighed to himself. I could easily make it to the den but she's tired... goddamn it I'm gonna kill that hanyou! Digging his feet into the ground, Koga skidded to a halt. He adjusted the young woman in his arms so that he could sit down with her in his lap.
Sitting down on a rock, he continued to stare down at the sleeping form of the young woman. Whatever this young woman had it was enough to drive Inuyasha into a bumbling idiot. Frowning to himself he wondered if he should get tangled up in whatever mess the hanyou had found himself in but he knew that he had no choice.
It was too late to back out now, Aliya was with him and therefore needed his protection and help. It was then that Koga noticed that Aliya's hair which had been pitch black appeared to be lightening. It even had a few streaks of brown in it.
She's changing. The demon that I smelled in her blood must be showing itself. He took a deep breath. She smelled of pure water. The scent tickled the nose of the okami. Running his clawed nails through her hair he brought it up to his nose. She had such a pleasant scent.
Frowning to himself, Koga let the strands of her hair fall through his fingers. No... I cannot allow myself to get distracted as Inuyasha had. She is depending on me. He lifted her into his arms and began to take off towards his den in the mountains.
It was late in the night before they reached the den. Ginta and Hakkaku were no were to be found. Koga slowly walked towards his mat of furs and laid her out. Aliya moaned softly and snuggled into the soft mat. Koga stood watch over her sitting beside her sleeping form. The okami couldn't help but wonder what powers the young woman would possess once her demon form fully awoke inside her.
Aliya's eyes slowly opened as she came out of sleep. With a low groan she rose up to find herself in a dark cave. "Where am I?" she said softly. "You are in the Den of the Yoro-Zuru." Aliya raised her eyes to see Koga sitting before a burning fire, watching her. "Oh..." she said adjusting herself drawing legs underneath her body. The young woman somehow felt uncomfortable with the way the okami was watching her. "What?" she sighed unable to take his stares.
"Your.... hair... and your eyes..." he said, softly, watching her. Aliya sighed as she reached up to her hair. "There is nothing different about my hair that would cause you to stare at me so..." she stopped. Her eyes widened as she stared at the strands of hair. Instead of the black tresses she had seen her entire life her hair was now a shade of brown. "What..." she breathed. Running her fingers through her hair she noticed that the texture itself as well as the length had changed. She looked up Koga. "What has happened?"
"I believe that you have become a youkai. And judging from your aura I'd have to say a very powerful one at that." Aliya looked down at her lap. "I don't want to be a youkai... I want to be myself." Koga placed a comforting hand on her shoulder. "Being a youkai isn't that bad Aliya. Especially one of your power. And you are not a full-blooded youkai... more like a hanyou." Aliya shrugged her shoulders. "I... guess you're right."
The young woman sighed as she leaned forward. "I just don't understand... why I am here." "What do you mean? You don't know how you got here?" "Oh no... I know how I got here. I travelled through the well. I just... I dont understand why I am here. But I feel it has something to do with both Inuyasha and the demon you call Naraku." Koga frowned in thought. "Do you know what happened between Inuyasha and Naraku? I mean the story of why Inuyasha hates him?"
Aliya shook her head, her eyes widening. "I always assumed that it had to do with whatever happened to me but if there is another reason please tell me so that I can understand them better." Koga leaned back. "Okay but I must warn you, Aliya, this story... it doesn't really have a happy ending." The young woman looked away. "I don't believe in them anyway so I wont be upset."
"Long ago... I would say it has been more than 50 years exactly how long I don't know. Inuyasha was in love with an 18 year old human priestess named Kikyo. They were close despite their differences.
Now Kikyo was guardian of a special jewel known as the Shikon no Tama, a jewel it is said that had the power to purify as well as corrupt depending on the holder. One day Kikyo took in a burn victim named Onigumo a thief. Everyday Onigumo's heart burned for Kikyo and yearned for her to be like him. Corrupt.
It was then that he summoned a hord of youkai whose numbers have never been fully told. He gave them his body to devour in exchange for their power. They accepted and from this was born the youkai who calls himself Naraku.
With his new powers, Naraku sought to possess the Shikon no Tama but in order to do so he needed to get it away from Kikyo. Using the form of Inuyasha, he battled Kikyo injurying her greatly. Then as Inuyasha later tried to get away with the Shikon no Tama he was betrayed... or so he thought by Kikyo who pinned him to a tree with an enchanted arrow.
And that was where Inuyasha remained for 50 years until he was released by the reincarnation of Kikyo a girl from the modern era named Kagome. Unknowing that Inuyasha thought she was the same girl, Kagome released him from his prison so that he could save her from another youkai by the name of Mistress Centipede.
Although he did indeed save her he really wanted the satisfaction of killing Kagome himself. He never got the chance and soon learned that Kagome was not Kikyo but her reincarnation. Kagome at one point shattered the Shikon no Tama trying to save it from a youkai raven. Together they travelled around the lands collecting the tama shards. He later came to love her as well. And to make a longer story short...
Naraku has been the main center of all of Inuyasha's pain," Koga paused and watched Aliya. "However... I do not understand what all of that has to do with you. Inuyasha has long since been healed about the tragedy that took Kikyo away from him all those years ago. And I get the sense... that this new hatred has more to do with you than the past."
Aliya's eyes were no longer focused on Koga but rather the smoldering embers of the dying flames. She felt a pain in her heart upon hearing the story of Inuyasha's past with Kikyo. Now she understood why he hated Naraku so much. But still there was something else... something that was hidden. Although what Koga told her explained why he hated Naraku it did not however explain why he was so devoted to protecting her from him. And why he had referred to her as Aeiru when they first met.
"Aliya..." Koga said softly as the young woman stood up and walked towards the mouth of the den. She seemed so wrapped into her own thoughts that he was sure she had not heard anything that he had said once he had finished the story. And he understood why. She was confused on what her role was in this feudal tale.
Standing up, he slowly walked over to her. "Hey..." he whispered trying to draw her out of her thoughts. "If Inuyasha was in love with Kikyo and later Kagome who is Kikyo's reincarnation... what does that have to do with me?" she said quietly as if she was afraid of hearing herself say it.
Koga did not know how to respond to that question. She was right but the okami had already gotten the sense that the inu-hanyou had fallen in love with her as well. "Do you care for him?" he found himself asking her. At first she didn't answer but then after taking a deep breath she opened her mouth.
"I care.. for him... but... I don't know if I love him." A smirk spread across his face as he pulled her closer to him. "That's a real shame..." he whispered. Aliya sighed. "Koga...." she groaned. He chuckled. "Can't I tease you just a little bit?"
Aliya trembled as she shut her eyes, it seemed that some time had passed before she spoke again. "Koga.. do you think that is why Naraku wants me? The fact that my power is growing stronger?" The okami nodded. "Mm'hmm..."
Aliya opened her eyes. "But... I don't think that's the only thing. I think there is something else. A big piece of this puzzle about my past life here that I am not understanding. When Naraku spoke to me he also called me Aeiru. And he seemed affectionate to me. He even kissed me..."
Koga grabbed Aliya by her shoulders and jerked her around to him. His blue eyes were wide with shock and burned wildly. "Did you say Naraku kissed you?" Aliya nodded her head wondering what it was that he was thinking about. The okami bit his lower lip and his gaze slid to one side. "I wonder if...." He turned his gaze back and stared Aliya into her now golden eyes. "I fear that... you... are in more danger than Inuyasha let on."
Naraku watched as the okami Koga held Aliya before him. His face remained passive but inside he was burning with rage. He looked above the mirror to the incarnation who held it. His first, Kanna. He stood up from the floor swinging his yukata with him.
He wanted nothing more than to destroy everyone linked to her. Naraku paced around his inner chambers in thought finally stopping in the middle of the room. He knew what he was going to do... but what he needed was something that he was quickly running out of... time. Naraku disappeared into a cloud of miasma making his way towards the mountains of the Yoko-Zuru.
Aliya sat alone watching the moon slowly descend through the black starlit sky. Koga had long returned to the den. The young woman's mind was plagued with many thoughts and questions. Once told about Inuyasha's past with Naraku many more questions. A sad feeling washed over her. She was tired of being left in the dark about her past. She was certain that Naraku had known her just as Inuyasha had. But to what extent?
Raising her hand to her forehead she rested in this way for unknown length of time. As she sat buried in her own thoughts she heard the rushing sound of a waterfall. Standing slowly she made her way down the path of the den. After carefully making her way down a trail of the mountain until she came upon a magnificent roaring waterfall. A smile spread upon her lips as she shed her clothing.
Aliya stood in the lake underneath the waterfall enjoying the cold water. Ever since she could remember she had a strange attatchment to water and could withstand long periods of time underneath. The temperature of water never bothered her either. She ran her wet hands over her arms and over her shoulders. Letting out a soft sigh, she leaned against a rock allowing the gently moving water to relax her body.
As she closed her eyes letting her mind wander she felt a presence near her. She let a smirk spread across her mouth. Koga.... she thought as she turned her head but was taken aback to see no one there. "Aliya..." she heard someone whisper near her right ear. Turning again she saw no one. Fear began to clutch at her chest as she began to back out of the water when she felt a pair of arms circle around her.
"Aliya...." came the same whisper. Hot breath fell upon her wet flesh causing it to pimple. Her eyes widened as she realized who the voice belonged to. "Naraku...."
