Burning Bright by Shinedown

I feel like there is no need for conversation

Some questions are better left without a reason

And I would rather reveal myself than my situation

Now and then I consider, my hesitation

(chorus)

The more the light shines through me

I pretend to close my eyes

The more the dark consumes me

I pretend I'm burning, burning bright

I wonder if the things I did were just to be different

To spare myself of the constant shame of my existence

And I would surely redeem myself in my desperation

Here and now I'll express, my situation

CHORUS (2)

There's nothing ever wrong but nothing's ever right

Such a cruel contradiction

I know I cross the lines its not easy to define

I'm born to indecision

There's always something new some path I'm supposed to choose

With no particular rhyme or reason

CHORUS (2)

As the morning sun shorne through an open window in her room, Aliya opened her large golden eyes and looked around. For a moment she could not discern where she was but as she rose from her fur and soft pillow bed, her memory came back to her.

She was in the palace of the demon Naraku. Yawning sleepily, she ran her fingers through her long brown hair trying to straighten it out. Just as she finished, her wooden sliding door opened slowly revealing Naraku.

The demon stood there for a moment watching her. There was almost innocent air about her as she watched him, her fingers brushing some loose strands of her hair behind her ear. Naraku smirked to himself as his eyes fixed themselves upon her. Finally moving out of the doorframe, he entered into her room. It was then that Aliya noticed that the demon was carrying a tray of food.

He sat before her placing the tray between them. On the tray was two large bowls, one filled with rice and meat the other was filled with fruit. Beside the bowls was a small basket of bread rolls and a large jug of filled with water.

Aliya looked at the food hungrily. "Eat," Naraku said. The young woman didn't need a second invitation as she reached for a pair of chopsticks on the tray. Quickly she began to eat the meals he had prepared for her.

Aliya reached out her hand to pick up the jug of water but Naraku picked it up before she did. Calmly he poured the water into a small cup and handed it to her. The young woman bowed her head in thanks as she took the cup and raised it to her lips.

She drank deeply before placing the cup down before her. Leaning back against she brushed her long brown hair from her face. As she raised her gaze, she locked eyes with Naraku who seemed to be staring at her.

She felt her breath hitch in her throat as the demon reached out for her hand and gently took it raising her to her feet. Pulling her to him, he held her in his arms. "Do you wish to see where you came from?" he whispered in her ear.

"Wh-where I'm from?" Aliya said. "Yes... come," Naraku said drawing her into his yukata. Within seconds the two were flying high through the Japanese skies. Aliya gripped tightly to Naraku's yukata fearing that at any given time she could fall.

"I will not drop you," the demon reassured her. She could not understand why she believed him but she did. Aliya buried her face in his chest taking deep breaths of his scent. It was... strange. She was not familiar with what it was but it seemed so familiar as if she had smelled it many times before. A soft delicate moan radiated from somewhere within her throat.

Naraku stared ahead of them as he flew her through the skies. He heard the gentle lull of her breathing as she was taking in his scent. He pressed her further against his warm body. Years ago, Onigumo the human side of the demon who called himself Naraku had felt strongly for the priestess Kikyo. He thought that such feelings made him weak that was until he had met Aeiru. There was something different about her than the priestess.

Onigumo had wanted to corrupt the good-heart of Kikyo and he found a way to do so. But when Naraku had met Aeiru he wanted nothing more than to claim her as his. He never got that chance. Finally after travelling the entire day, he landed on the outskirts of a dead forest. The trees, the animals, the birds, the grass... everything within the forest had died. He placed the young woman on her feet.

Aliya raised her hand to her head feeling suddenly dizzy. She reached out and held onto Naraku's arm. "This... I know this place," she whispered. The demon looked down at her. "Go..." was all he said to her. As if her feet was guiding her into a familiar dream, Aliya stepped towards the forest. She raised her hand and touched the bark of a tree. Immediately the tree began to turn green again. Everything sprang to life at her touch.

"What's happening?" she gasped watching everything turn green. Naraku placed his hands on her shoulders and led her within the forest. Everywhere she stepped flowers sprang from the earth. "Naraku..." she whispered, as white deer peeked around trees watching her. "Two years ago this forest died when the guardian herself passed on. It is said that the forest only comes to life if the guardian is there."

Aliya's gaze wandered over every inch of the forest the longer she was there the greener and more beautiful the forest became. "But... what does that mean?" she whispered to him. "It means that you are the guardian of these lands."

Aliya looked up at Naraku to see if what he was serious and she saw that he was indeed that. Looking back towards the clearing she realized that there was a lake. It seemed to call to her. Walking ahead, she dipped the toe of her foot into the water and gasped.

Almost immediately she felt a surge of energy wash over her. Aliya moved further out into the water until she stood waist deep. She closed her eyes relishing in the feeling of the energy. Wrapping her arms around her body she moaned. The young woman raised her face towards the heavens and opened her eyes. The golden hue of her beautiful orbs glowed brightly.

Naraku watched her as she rested within the lake allowing its energy to surge through her body. He stood beneath the shade of a white sakura tree. The beautiful flowers were blooming already and some had begun to rain down upon the land below. "Aliya..." he called to her. The young woman turned her face towards him. Right that moment, Naraku saw the beauty of Aeiru shining through Aliya.

Moving from underneath the tree, the demon walked towards the young woman and reached out towards her. Taking her hand gently in his, he pulled her closer to him before leading her out of the lake. "This place... was Aeiru's wasn't it?" she asked, her voice was softer than ever before. "It is yours as it was hers." Aliya smiled gently before resting her head on Naraku's chest as they sank down to the ground.

They remained in each other's arms as the sun began to rose high in the sky. Aliya snuggled deeper into the demon's arms feeling a strange sense of security. Although Inuyasha and Koga had warned her and told her about Naraku, she felt that there was nothing that he would do to harm her. She felt... loved. Suddenly it hit her. Opening her eyes, she stared at the lake. "You... loved her... didn't you."

Naraku looked down at the young woman. He hid the smirk that played on his lips. She's starting to remember... "Yes... I did. And she loved me in return..." he said. Aliya turned around in his arms and rose herself onto her knees. "You have to tell me. What happened," she said, her eyes filled with so much emotion. "Neither you nor Inuyasha will tell me what happened... I must... know... I must know everything."

The demon watched her. "We should return to the palace..." he said. Before Aliya could say anything in return, the flew out of the forest towards Naraku's palace. When they landed and walked inside, Aliya brought up her arms to fight against him.

"Let me go, Naraku..." she exclaimed struggling to pull away from him. Naraku held Aliya in his arms holding her close to him. He stared into her golden eyes as he leaned close. Aliya glared at him angrily. "I said let..." she began but didn't finish her sentence as he crushed his lips against hers.
