“Inuyasha… don’t you think that… well maybe shouldn’t they…” Kagome paced back and forth in front of the mirror. She just couldn’t bring herself to say it.

She knew Inuyasha would understand. She knew he’d probably even schedule them on the next flight out… but she still had to mention it.

“Kags, did you say something?” Inuyasha walked into the bedroom, and smiled at Kagome.

Her heart melted at the small gesture and she sighed, sitting on the bed. “We need to talk.” She said.

Inuyasha’s face fell… the words he couldn’t bare the thought of coming from those gorgeous lips.

“Whatever it is I’ll change.” Inuyasha sat down next to her, a look of pure terror in his eye.

“Oh no, it’s nothing like that!” Kagome smiled a little and put her hand in his.

Inuyasha released an obvious sigh and his face lit up again. “You scared me there for a second beautiful.”

“Sorry.” She smiled again before continuing. “I just think that… it’s time to meet… well… Inuyasha would you like to meet my family over Halloween?”

“Oh.” Inuyasha smirked. “Yeah… definitely!” He kissed Kagome on the cheek and stood up, lifting her up with him. “And here I thought you were going to leave me.”

“You’re not getting off that easily Mister. I am all yours.” She smiled and kissed him chastely on the lips. “Now, I’m going to start cleaning, and you have Karate.”

“Teaching those little kids; it’s so fun.” He smiled.

Kagome led Inuyasha to the door and wrapped her arms around him. “I’ll see you in a few hours.” She nearly whispered. “I love you.”

“I love you baby girl.” He kissed her lips, never wanting the kiss to end.

“Teach. Class. Go.” Kagome muttered, trying desperately to get out of his grip.

“I’ll see you tonight.” He smiled and headed out the door, jumping in his black Montero.

Kagome waved and once Inuyasha’s car was out of sight she went back in the house.

The house was a modest two bedroom set in the small suburban area. Inuyasha had inherited it from his grandfather when he died. Kagome looked down at the beige carpet and pulled the vacuum out of the broom closet.

“First thing’s first.” Kagome smiled at the stupid statement and began vacuuming the house.

Once the vacuuming was done, she moved on to dusting and organizing. It gave her such a joy to clean the house. She supposed it was all those years growing up in the Shrine with her grandfather where after school chores were routine.

She looked around at the spotless living room, then moved into the bedroom. This was by far her favorite room. She loved the colors, the floor was tile but there was a Persian rug in the center of the room. The wardrobe was mahogany with a vanity mirror that rested on top of it. A small table sat on the Persian rug, it was really only used for books and magazines. The bed was also a mahogany based modern mission queen size bed, with an interchangeable mink/champagne down comforter. The immense fluffy-ness of the bed made it feel like you were sleeping on clouds. At least, that is how Kagome compared it. She made the bed and straightened a picture on the wardrobe before leaving the room and heading to the kitchen.

Kagome looked up at the clock and realized that she had better start dinner or Inuyasha would have to wait. She smiled at her quirks, not that he would mind… he was too sweet to her.

She looked at the ham sitting in the refrigerator and took it out to glaze it with honey and pineapple. She put the ham in the oven and began peeling potatoes. Inuyasha wasn’t expecting it, but she was going all out on this meal. It was kind of her way of getting him to agree more easily to something, then again he already did agree to go meet her family for Halloween.

She watched the carrots simmer and the potatoes boil as she mixed the salad. Dinner was almost ready when she heard a knock on the door. She sighed and walked to the front door.

“Sango!” She smiled and hugged her best friend (and cousin). “What are you doing here?!” she asked, backing away from the door so Sango could come in.

“Well I came back from so I could go to aunties killer Halloween party with you guys! Halloween is by far the best holiday.” She smiled, dropping a rather large bag on the floor next to the door.

“How did you know where I lived?” Kagome asked, still in shock at seeing Sango.

“Well I went by Mum and Dad’s and she said you had moved in with someone, the name escapes me I’m afraid but she said I could maybe stay with you.” Sango batted her eye lashes and bit her lip.

“Of course. Oh but I have to ask Inuyasha.” Kagome bit her lip too, they did have an extra bedroom.

“So, had to get a roommate to pay rent?” Sango asked.

“Umm… not exactly.” Kagome shuffled her feet and closed the door. “Inuyasha’s kind of… we’re a little… involved.” Kagome said avoiding Sango’s eye. She knew her cousin would be furious she didn’t already know these details.

“And you never wrote to me? Emailed me? Called me?! How long have you been together!? Where did you meet? Is he cute? Are you in love? Details!!”

“Calm down Sango,” Kagome smiled. “I’ll tell you all about it at the party when I tell everyone else.”

“I can’t wait three days!” Sango said, sitting at the dinning room table. “Something smells delicious!”

Kagome laughed. “That’s dinner. You’re more than welcome to have some.”

“Don’t have to tell me twice.”

“It’s almost done. We can eat as soon as Inuyasha gets home.” Kagome said, heading back to the kitchen. She heard a car pull up just then and smiled. “Speak of the devil.”

“Kids, you’re not focusing today. What’s wrong?” Inuyasha asked his pupils. “One more time. Block. Duck. Assist.” Inuyasha sighed, “Take a quick drink break.” He walked over to one child that was probably the best in the class, but Inuyasha wasn’t technically supposed to pick out favorites.

“What’s wrong today Shippo? You don’t seem to be trying as hard as usual.” Inuyasha handed him a bottle of water.

“Nothing’s wrong Sensai.” Shippo responded promptly, his voice however was sad and weak.

“Are you sure? You look tired, and nearly starved.”

“I’m fine Sensai.” He said, not looking up from the ground. “Thank you for the water.”

“You’re welcome Shippo.” Inuyasha moved to stand up. “You know, I’m here as more than your karate instructor, if you ever just want to talk about something, I’m here for that too.”

“Thank you Sensai.” Inuyasha nodded and looked over at two boys fighting.

“Gerad! Ai! Break it up!” Inuyasha walked over to them.

“We were just goofing around Sensai.” Geard said, looking at Ai angrily.

“You know that Karate is not used unless it is in …”

“Defense.” They answered in unison.

“Good.” Inuyasha walked away and stood at the end of the mat once more. “Front and center!” The fourteen children in his karate class ran up and formed a straight horizontal line. “Now, as you know Thursday is Halloween.” The kids applauded. “Yes, very nice. But, that means that we won’t have karate on that day.” A few ‘aww’s were heard and Inuyasha let out a small smile. “So what do you say we work extra hard right now?”

“Yay!” Nearly all the children had a new sense of energy.

“Good.”

Inuyasha threw his gym bag into the back of his jeep and sighed. It was a long class. Once the kids had a renewal of energy, they didn’t want to leave. Mikey had to actually be hauled away by his mother. Trevor went complaining about stupid time limits. Inuyasha smiled and got into his car, keying the ignition he noticed Shippo walking a few feet ahead. He turned off the car and ran up to the child.

“Hey Shippo.” He smiled to the child.

“Hello Sensai.” Shippo said, smiling back up at him.

“Isn’t your house elder coming to get you?” Inuyasha asked.

“Umm, no.” Shippo looked away guiltily. “I told Susan that I had a ride from Tommy so that I could walk home. She always gets mad that I don’t have many friends.” Shippo continued walking, Inuyasha right beside him.

“Don’t you think you should call her and tell her the truth?” Inuyasha asked.

“No.” Shippo said shortly.

“Really?” Inuyasha pretended to shiver. “It’s pretty cold out here.” He made up the little white lie, in hopes of continuing this conversation. The cool air was actually quite refreshing after working up a sweat teaching Karate. The kids always insisted to be shown ‘cool’ moves that Inuyasha could do, and that they would aspire to learn.

“Not so bad.” Shippo shrugged.

“Dark.” Inuyasha tried again, looking up at the moon rising.

“Not quite yet.”

“Well tell you what. So that you don’t get in trouble from coming home so late, and so that you can tell Susan a friend gave you a ride home, why don’t I take you?”

“Really Sensai?” Shippo stopped walking and looked up at Inuyasha.

“Yeah. Come on.” He smiled and extended his hand to Shippo.

“Okay.” Shippo took his hand and followed him back to his car.

“Thank you Sensai.” Shippo said after the silent, but not uncomfortable ride.

“You are welcome Shippo. You know, out of class hours you can call me Inuyasha.”

“Oh. Okay.” Shippo smiled and hopped out of the jeep. “Thanks again.” He closed the door and walked up to the house.

Inuyasha waited, making sure he got inside okay, before driving off to his house.

He pulled up to the russet colored home and smiled at it. He felt so peaceful with his life some days… almost like it was too perfect. He checked the mail, even though he knew by now Kagome would have gotten it. He then realized there was a car parked on the side of the street that he didn’t recognize. He made a small noise of confusion and headed inside.

“Hey baby.” He called, tossing his gym bag on the floor. He noticed his bag collided with another. “Baby?”

“Yash!” Kagome came in and smiled. “How was Karate?”

“It went pretty well. I gave Shippo a ride home today. You know the little boy I always talk about.”

“Yeah I know Shippo. I think he came in with Mrs. Johanson’s class to the library the other day.”

Inuyasha just nodded. He then remembered his earlier thoughts. “Who’s junk is that?”

“My cousins.” Kagome said easily. “I was wondering if she could stay for a while… just until we go to mums for Halloween.” Kagome bit her lip nervously. She didn’t know why she was always afraid of asking him things, it’s not like he ever denied her anything… perhaps that prospect of ‘this could be the one time he says no’ always lingered in her mind.

“Sure she can. Where is she?” He asked, closing the front door finally.

“Hi!” Sango came out of the kitchen, her hand extended. “I’m San- Inuyasha!?”

Inuyasha turned away from the door he had been closing and looked at Sango. “Sango!?” He stifled a laugh and extended his hand. “It’s lovely to meet you.” He said.

“Liar! I’ve met you! You’re an asshole!” Sango huffed and turned away.

“What is going on?” Kagome asked, not understanding what was happening between her favorite cousin and Inuyasha.

“This is Miroku’s girlfriend.” He said.

“EX! Ex-girlfriend!” She screamed. “You two little brats were the biggest dicks to me!”

“I met her like two years ago in St. Paul. When me and Miroku went on that ‘we need a life’ trip. I told you all about that Kagome.”

“Yes I remember… why were you jerks?” She asked.

“Well, Miroku and I… may have played a little joke on her.” Inuyasha stifled a laugh.

“A little joke! You guys were assholes! First they dumped ice cold water on my head! Then they pretended there were bears in the forest and then they locked me out of the tent in the rain!” Sango put her arms across her chest and looked away from Inuyasha.

“That’s why you’re mad?” Inuyasha asked. “I thought it was because of when we brought you up into the tree and left you cause you were afraid of heights and couldn’t get down.” Inuyasha started laughing and Sango’s face fell.

“I had almost forgotten about that. Thanks for reminding me.”

“Honey that was mean.” Kagome said, smiling slightly. She used to torture her cousin for her fear of heights too… of course, now was not the time to congratulate Inuyasha.

“Well, we were young.” Inuyasha muttered.

“You were twenty two!” Sango said indignantly.

“Oh yeah.” Inuyasha smirked and then sniffed the air. “Something smells delicious.” He said, effectively changing the subject.

“Oh dinner!” Kagome seemed to panic and ran to the kitchen.

“I’m really sorry, if it makes it any better.” Inuyasha smiled. “Friends?”

Sango looked at his extended hand skeptically and finally took it. “Friends.” She muttered.

“Good.” Inuyasha smiled and headed to the kitchen, Sango close behind.
