Chapter 7: Crossing Paths

**
Inuyasha, of the Hanyou variety, looked curiously as the air him and Kagome were floating in became fuzzy and another pair joined them. This pair had a startling resemblance to himself and Kagome. It confused Inuyasha, and he sniffed for danger, but his senses weren’t working in this mysterious space.

Kagome, of the human persuasion, held on to Inuyasha for dear life as she saw a couple who looked just like her and Inuyasha, only the boy had startling white hair and the girl seemed to have skin made of fur.

“Who are you?” the Hanyou Kagome found her courage first.

“My name is Kagome, this is Inuyasha. Who are you?” she asked them back, curious as to who they were. More importantly, why were they here, in this strange place.

The other party was silent. They looked at each other, then looked back to the humans as though they didn’t trust them.

“Was it something I said?” Kagome asked.

We are Kagome and Inuyasha.” Kagome answered.

“That’s quite a coincidence.” Human Kagome said. “I’m sorry to sound mean, but, do you know where we are?”

“No. Do you?” Hanyou Kagome asked.

“No. We fell through the well… I think.” Inuyasha stepped in.

“So did we.” Hanyou Inuyasha responded.

“Something very mysterious is happening here. What do you-” whatever else the human Kagome was going to say was cut off by a sudden swish of air, and a blinding white light that forced all four of them to close their eyes. Suddenly Kagome and Inuyasha landed on the hard ground. Kagome opened her eyes and looked up, she was in a well house.

“Inuyasha, what’s happening?” She asked.

“I don’t know. Best stay with me.” Inuyasha said. “Hop on my back.” Kagome did as instructed and Inuyasha jumped up out of the well. “It seems to be a well house. Do you think… do you think we are where those humans came from?”

Kagome looked around at all the people in the yard. They were all humans. “We must be.” Kagome sniffed intensely for a moment. “I don’t smell any danger here. Maybe, if we just play it cool for a little while, we can get back home.”

“Lets try to jump through the well again.”

~

“Inuyasha, it’s not going to work, and you’re going to break your leg jumping in and out of there.” Kagome sighed, looking at the trees. “I’ve never seen such tall trees. It’s gorgeous here.”

“Yea, yea.” Inuyasha climbed out of the well for the final time and sat beside Kagome on the lip of the well. “What are we going to do? We must be where those… people came from.”

“I don’t think they were human.” Kagome mentioned. “Those ears looked attached, and I think Kagome had fangs.”

“Do you suppose they are at home?” Inuyasha asked.

“Probably.”

“There you are.” A monotone voice droned from behind them. Kagome stood up and turned around.

“Sesshomaru?” She asked, not really sure why she thought it might be him.

“Do not address me insignificant one.” Sesshomaru sniffed the air. “You smell human.” He said. “But look… similar. What happened?”

“If we knew we’d tell you.” Kagome said.

“I’m Inuyasha, this is my fiancé Kagome.”

“I know who you two are half-breed.”

“Excuse me?” Inuyasha stood in front of Kagome, as though shielding her. “You got a problem with me?”

“I will not fight you when you are so inadequate. It would be pathetic.” Sesshomaru took off without another word.

“I’m not sure I like the looks of this place.” Inuyasha said.

“Kagome! Inuyasha! Finally. We were so worried…” Miroku came walking up to the couple and looked confused. “Who are you? You are not the Kagome and Inuyasha that we are friends with.”

“No; but that is our names. We think something happened. Where are we?”

“Japan.” Miroku said easily. “Just where are you from?”

“Japan.” Inuyasha answered. “What month is it? What year? Why are there no houses or buildings?”

“Don’t badger him with questions. Perhaps we should ask his name.” Kagome shook her head and turned to Miroku. “Hi, who are you?”

“My name is Miroku. This is The Feudal Era.”

Inuyasha instinctively caught Kagome as she fainted.

~,~

“Inuyasha, what if these people aren’t friendly?” Kagome urged as they stepped out of the well house. They had stopped trying to jump back in the well, after the tenth attempt it was getting pointless.

“Keh, then I’ll slaughter them all.” He said easily.

“Don’t be hasty.” Kagome sighed.

“Kags!” Sango came up to Kagome. “Well I guess it’s my turn to say congratulations. You little devil I can’t believe you didn’t tell me sooner!”

“Umm… sorry but… congratulations with what?” Kagome asked, not wanting to seem rude and anger this human.

“About you and Inuyasha getting married.” Sango rolled her eyes, obviously thinking Kagome was joking.

“Why should we do something so stupid? Only hum-“ Kagome hit Inuyasha in the stomach preventing him from saying anything more.

“Right. Thank you.” Kagome smiled and dragged Inuyasha away. “You can’t do things like that! They think we are human! We have to be smart about what we say.”

“Oh Kagome my sweet baby girl! Why didn’t you tell your dear mother what you were planning!?” Mrs. Higarashi hugged Kagome, who was quite taken aback by the random stranger who was now hugging her.

Inuyasha growled low, then he remembered what Kagome had said and he made a small “humph” noise, looking away. Mrs. Higarashi noticed this and took it as a sign that he wanted attention too.

“And of course Inuyasha!” She hugged Inuyasha and he looked confused, trying to subtly get out of her grip. “You’ve stolen my baby’s heart! You’ll make such a great husband.”

“She’s already my mate so whatever.” Mrs. Higarashi seemed confused by this but said nothing more.

“Wonderful costumes by the way. They look extremely real did you change?” Mrs. Higarashi asked, looking them over more carefully.

“Yep.” Kagome didn’t know what else to say to pacify the woman.

“Well, let’s go back into the main hub of the party shall we?”

“I don’t know about that Ma… Mom.” Kagome was about to call her ‘ma’am’ since she didn’t really know this woman at all; but, then she remembered her saying that she was Kagome’s mother. Kagome shook her head, she was getting a headache.

“Oh come on.” Mrs. Higarashi took Inuyasha and Kagome by the hands and led them back to where the party had centralized.

“Dear me, you two need to trim your nails.” Mrs. Higarashi laughed as she walked off, mingling with others.

“They’re claws not nails.” Inuyasha snapped under his breath.

“Inuyasha.” Kagome reprimanded.

“What? I didn’t say it out loud.” He then muttered something that Kagome could only assume was an insult.

“We have to get out of here.” Kagome said, “Soon they’re gonna realize we aren’t the Kagome and Inuyasha they think we are!”

“Inuyasha.” A droll voice came from beside the Hanyous. Inuyasha growled menacingly, that voice was too familiar to ignore. “Calm down,” Sesshomaru took a step back, not sure why he was being growled at. “I only came to inform you that Sal and Kaede are looking for you.”

“Thank you.” Kagome tried to smile, Inuyasha finally stopped growling.

“You are welcome. Rin and I are going to retire for the evening. Once again, congratulations little brother, and Kagome.” He nodded as a parting and soon disappeared in the crowd.

“Yash!” Miroku came up to Inuyasha and smiled. He put his arm around Inuyasha’s shoulder before he spoke again, “I was thinking we could go out tonight, you know maybe see a little night life whaddya think?” Miroku winked at Kagome before turning back to Inuyasha.

“Miroku?” Inuyasha asked.

“Yea?” he asked back

“Nothing.” Inuyasha was starting to feel very overwhelmed. “I think Kagome and I are just gonna turn in early. So I’ll see you later.” Inuyasha took Kagome by the hand and started walking inside.

“What are you doing?” Kagome asked as Inuyasha began sniffing.

“I’m trying to find out which scent belongs to us… them… I need to see where we’re staying. Now shh.” Kagome huffed but did as she was told. She noticed an elderly couple in the next room and she hit Inuyasha to get him to stop sniffing.

“Ah there you are.” Kaede came up to them and hugged them. “Congratulations dears.” She paused and looked at them incredulously before ignoring her feeling and turning back to Sal. “Come on Sal, I suspect Inutaisho is still talking.”

“Congratulations Kagome, and Inuyasha.” Sal looked at them with intent. He could sense something different about the couple. “Demon.” He mumbled.

“Excuse me?” Kagome asked.

“Demons!”

“Sal!” Kaede shushed Sal and smiled at Kagome and Inuyasha. “Your grandfather is just tired ignore him. Good night you two.”

“Night.” Kagome smiled until the couple turned their backs.

“Look at all this neat stuff.” Inuyasha said, examining the television set. “What is this thing?”

“How am I suppose to know?” Kagome asked.

“I dunno. You’re the smart one.” He walked over to the kitchen next. “What does this do?” he asked as he started the microwave. “Wow.” He said in absolute fascination.

“Yash, did you figure out where the room is?”

“Oh right.”

~.~

Kagome woke up to a crackling fire. She opened her eyes and saw a very worried fiancé leaning over her.

“Yash, what happened?” She sat up to see Sango and Miroku, well… not quite, but they resembled the pair remarkably. “Oh no.” Everything came flooding back to her.

“This is Sango and Miroku.” Inuyasha explained gently. “And Shippo.” Shippo smiled from his spot a few feet away. “They know what happened. I told them everything. Miroku was very concerned for you… well Kagome at least, and so we brought you back here; but I don’t know enough about anything to pretend I know what happened. So I told them the truth.”

“Of course, we wouldn’t lie to these poor people. Unless they would burn us at the stake or something.”

Miroku, Sango and Shippo sat very silent while Kagome got her thoughts in order. “Besides, I would have been able to smell the difference on you anyways, so there was no point in lying.” Shippo said matter-of-factly.

“He’s a demon Kit.” Inuyasha explained.

“And were… are Kagome and Inuyasha…”

“Hanyou.” Miroku chimed in. “They are mates.”

“What should we know about them?” Kagome asked.

“Just that they are our dearest friends. They don’t really have any family left. Except you Inuyasha… or him Inuyasha, he has a brother Sesshomaru.”

“Oh dear god.” Inuyasha held his head. This was far too much to handle.

“You don’t really get along with Sesshomaru. He is determined to kill you actually.” Sango added.

“Great – we’ve been here five minutes and already people hate us.”

“He doesn’t hate you per say… he hates the Hanyou.” Miroku continued.

“Right.” Inuyasha rolled his eyes.

“We’ll watch out for you until we can figure out how to get you back.” Sango said. “Why don’t we go see Kaede?”

“That’s a fabulous idea Sango my love.” Miroku smiled. “But we’ll wait until these two are ready to move.”

“We’re fine. Let’s go find Kaede.” Kagome said, sitting up.
~.~ I think that’s all I can handle for now ^.^ don’t worry more to come soon! Love you!!
