Chapter 9: Depleted SpiritsAnubis_Himura
~
Kagome couldn’t sleep. She tried and tried, but the more she willed herself to sleep the more she tossed and turned.
“This is ridiculous.” She mumbled, getting up. The sun had already started rising above the distant mountains.
Kagome walked outside and sat atop the hill. As she watched the sun rising she hoped that her eyes would suddenly open and she’d be laying beside Inuyasha, safe in her own bed. Kagome closed her eyes; praying with all her heart.
“Couldn’t sleep?” she opened her eyes as Inuyasha sat next to her. She shook her head slowly.
“You?” he shook his head also.
“This isn’t going to be easy, is it?” she asked, leaning on Inuyasha. He put his arm around her, and kissed the top of her head.
“No.” he said honestly. “But we can do it. We’re not alone.” Kagome nodded.
“We’ll be okay?” She closed her eyes as she started drifting off to sleep.
“We’ll be fine. I won’t let anything happen to you.”
~ Kagome woke up and the sun was high in the sky. She looked around and saw that everyone was preparing Kirara for their journey.
“I guess it’s time.” She said, more to herself than anyone else.
“Yea.” Inuyasha hugged her. “We’ll be fine.” He reassured her.
“I know.” She smiled back, and boarded Kirara. Once everyone was ready Kirara was airborne.
“Be careful!” Kaede called after them.
“Thank you Mistress Kaede!” Kagome called back.
“Lady Kaede gave us a… well, some version of a map.” Miroku said, tilting the scroll in a few directions.
Sango rolled her eyes and took the scroll from him, facing it horizontally and studying it. “This won’t help until we get to the mainland anyway.” Sango put the scroll away in one of the knapsacks and relaxed a little. “This is going to be a long journey.” She stated.
“Yea, and there’s no ‘in-flight movie’ or anything.” Inuyasha joked. Kagome laughed slightly, while the others looked at him incredulously. “Sorry, other worldly humour.” The others nodded and smiled a bit, but they didn’t really understand. ~
“I look like a freak!” Kagome exclaimed checking her appearance in the mirror.
Inuyasha walked in the bedroom, “I look worse than the monk.” As he muttered this he looked up for the first time to see Kagome.
Inuyasha stared for a long while, looking Kagome up and down. “Stop staring I know I look funny!” Inuyasha continued to stare at Kagome in her v-neck, form curving top, and his eyes traced the outline of her body down to the low rise jeans, that sculpted her perfectly proportioned body.
“I’m the luckiest Hanyou on the planet.” He commented.
Kagome scoffed. “Whatever.” Kagome now looked at Inuyasha critically.
“Now you; you look so cute!” She threw her arms around him in a compelling embrace.
“I look ridiculous.” He muttered as he looked down at his khaki cargo pants and blue button down shirt.
“Nonsense.” Kagome kissed Inuyasha on the cheek. “I want to go home.” Inuyasha said.
“I do too.” Kagome agreed. “I love you.”
“Inuyasha, Kagome, lunch.”
“Thank mom.” Kagome smiled. “Better get going Yash.” She said, leading him downstairs.
Inuyasha trudged behind, trying not to feel ashamed of being human, but it was hard when there was so much going on around him that he couldn’t hear or sense.
Kagome realized his distress and tried to comfort him with a small squeeze to his hand. He smiled, but she could tell nothing would help.

“I’m starving.” Kagome mentioned off handedly to Inuyasha.
“Yea I would kill for some ramen.” He sighed.
“Ramen?” Miroku asked. “What is that?”
“A delicious pre-packaged product, with way too much sodium and artificial flavors.” Kagome reminisced.
“We don’t have any of that.” Sango said thoughtfully.
“But we have this!” Shippo said excitedly.
Kagome looked at Shippo, as he proudly displayed his offering.
“What the-“ Inuyasha began.
Kagome smiled, “Thanks Shippo! Look Yash, bay leaves.”
“Yum.” Inuyasha feigned a smile.
Kagome had never had dry bay leaves before – and the idea was not appetizing.
“I want to go home.” Kagome muttered, leaning into Inuyasha.
“I know baby.” He replied comfortingly. “Me too.”
