Double TakeChapter 10: Secrets

~ Present ~
Inuyasha and Kagome walked down the street with Kagome’s mother and Inuyasha’s parents. The five of them had decided that it would be a good time to take a little walk downtown, and perhaps go to the park to relax before Kagome and Inuyasha had to go home.
Kagome thought about the idea that she had to go “home”. Her and Inuyasha had no idea where they even lived. They hadn’t let that depressing idea stop them from pretending they were having a great time.
“Something wrong Kagome?” her mother asked as they sat down on the swings (which Kagome nearly fell off at first).
“I just like being here.” She lied. “I don’t know if I feel like going home.”
“We’ll see each other again for Thanksgiving!” Her mother said, rubbing her shoulder sweetly. “Besides, you and Yash need to be alone. This is an important time. Newly engaged people need time to be… together.”
“Thanks mom.” Kagome said, pretending she felt better. “You’re right. I’m just being sentimental.”
“Of course dear.” Her mother sighed and stood up. “Well kiddo, you two better get headed home before it gets too late.”
“Yea. Wouldn’t want to get lost or something.” Kagome laughed.
They walked back to Kagome’s mothers’ house where they packed up Inuyasha’s jeep and said their goodbyes.
“See you at Thanksgiving.” Kagome smiled, as she hugged everyone.
“Bye.” Inuyasha said, getting into the car (even though he had no idea how to work the machine).
“Oh!” Sal exclaimed, breaking up the goodbyes. “I forgot! I was going to go with them back to their house!”
“Yes, I was too.” Kaede said as she walked over to stand beside Sal.
“And I’m driving.” Sal announced again.
“Fine by me.” Inuyasha said, getting in the back seat.
“Mom, dad… are you sure?” Kagome’s mother asked.
“Oh yes, we’ll be back.” They smiled.
Once the four of them were in the car Kaede realized that none of them knew how to get to Kagome and Inuyasha’s house – since none of them had ever been there.
“Sango!” Kaede said. You’re coming back with us right?”
“I was going to hang out here for a while actually.” Sango said, looking confused.
“No you weren’t.” Kaede said, her tone one not to mess with.
“Oh right! I left my car and everything at Yash’s house. I have to go get it.” Sango said. “I’ll just grab my duffle and we can go.”
When Sango was ready, and everyone was finally in the car, they began their trek to Inuyasha and Kagomes’.
“We need to tell her.” Kagome whispered urgently to Kaede.
“I know.” Kaede said back, taking a deep breath. “Sango.” She began. “Inuyasha and Kagome seem to have been… switched.”
“What?” Sango asked, looking at Kagome as though their grandmother had finally crossed in to senility.
“This is Kagome and Inuyasha – but from another time. They come here from the Feudal Era and some how our Kagome and Inuyasha got switched with them.”
“We’re hanyous.” Kagome said.
“Okay…” Sango didn’t believe a word of this.
“We need to know how to get back to Inuyasha and Kagome’s house.” Inuyasha said. “And you’re the only one who can tell us.”
“Right. Okay guys. Jokes over. I know I’m gullible but really!”
“It’s not a joke. We can’t stay with Kagomes mother anymore or she’ll know something’s wrong… we need to go to Kagome’s and Inuyasha’s where we can figure out how to get home.”
“So you’re expecting me to believe that this Kagome and this Inuyasha aren’t my Kagome and Inuyasha – but Kags and Yash from the past?” Sango summarized their tale in disbelief.
“Yea, that’s what we’re saying.” Kaede said and the others nodded in agreement.
Sango looked from on stoic face to the next, contemplating if she believed them or not. Kagome’s eyes held a pleading that she had never known Kagome to have; and Inuyasha seemed fairly desperate himself.
“Okay.” Sango said, “I believe you. To get to Kagome and Yash’s get on 202 and stay straight, take a left at the Shell station at the Junction. I’ll give more directions after that.” Sango said, still trying to sort out her thoughts.
“Thank you Sango.” Kagome said, resting her hand on Sango’s shoulder. “This means the world to us.”
“Yea… anything I can do to help.” Sango looked at them curiously. “How do you plan to go back?”
~
The crew pulled up to the reasonable sized home and awed at its simplicity and splendor. “Well Kagome and Inuyasha sure have a lovely house.” Kaede said.
“Yes, I agree.” Sal said.
“Seems that way.” Kagome smiled, “So this is where ‘we’ live huh?” She asked Inuyasha.
“Seems that way Kags.” Inuyasha said placidly. “Who’s the punk on the stairs?”
Kagome looked closely at the small boy sitting on their front stoop. “I don’t know.” Kagome said. “But he reminds me of Shippo.”
“Yea. I can see the runt in him.”
“Inuyasha!” The little boy ran up to Inuyasha and smiled. “I’ve been working on my blocks!”
“Umm, that’s great.” Inuyasha said, obviously not caring.
“Yea.” Shippo seemed a little deflated at Inuyasha’s lack of enthusiasm.
“I’m Kagome.” Kagome introduced herself, not sure if this boy had ever met her, but hopefully she would get his name out of it.
“Hi Miss Higarashi, I’m Shippo, Inuyasha’s my Karate teacher.” He said, bowing to show is respect.
“Oh hi Shippo.” Kagome said awkwardly – apparently they had never met.
“Well, we better get these bags in the house.” Kaede broke the tension. “Sal, why don’t you and Inuyasha start bringing this stuff in, and Kagome and I will make dinner.” She said, smiling sweetly. “Would you care to join us Shippo?”
“Oh, no thank you. My house mother is looking for me I suspect.” He smiled and started walking toward the centre of town. “Bye Sensai, see you Tuesday night.”
“He’s so adorable!” Kagome said. “He makes me miss Shippo though.”
“Keh. How could you miss the runt?”
“You miss him too – you know it.”
“Yea, I miss the runt about as much as I miss the lech and the slayer.” He rolled his eyes and crossed her arms across his chest, brooding.
“Don’t just stand there, help me with the bags!” Sal complained. “And Sango go ahead and open the door.”
“Sorry!” She took the keys from Kaede and ran ahead to do as instructed. Kagome and Kaede followed her to begin preparing dinner.
~
As dinner was eaten the silence became deafening. As Kaede tried to think of a plan to get Kagome and Inuyasha back to their own time she realized how hopeless it seemed. Sal was trying hard as well, going through every myth and legend he had ever heard of fabricated trying to think of something that could help them… but it seemed fruitless.
Finally Sal remembered something, he stood up as though he had been set on fire, his smile brimming from ear to ear. “I KNOW!” he exclaimed. “I have the answer!” everyone looked at him, their eyes alight with hope. “Tai Yi Min.” he said, looking at them as though that solved everything.
“Okay, how are martial arts going to help us?” Sango asked.
“Not Tai Chi!” Sal said furiously. “Tai Yi Min.” Everyone continued to stare at him. “There is a legend that many eons ago there was a man by the name of Tai Yi Min, he was a great man who knew more about anything than anyone. He knew the mysteries of alchemy, the sound of one hand clapping, he could follow string- theory! This man is a legend, not because he didn’t exist, but because he did.”
“Okay, so say this Tai Yi Min guy really did know everything there was to know about everything… he’s dead right? Died hundreds of years ago – how do we get the answers we want?” Kagome asked, trying to be reasonable and not getting her hopes up.
“Research – we look in every book we can find on and about him.” Kaede suggested. “We start with local libraries, if we need to we go to ”
“I’m fluent in mandarin.” Sal announced.
“I can ask my Chinese Mythology professor.” Sango said. “Majored in it for a semester.”
“What can we do?” Inuyasha asked, feeling as though he couldn’t contribute to there own plan.
“Just lay low – we’ll try and get you guys to call out sick from work so that no one realizes your missing. Just stay here a while, we’ll take care of it.” Kaede said, reassuring them.
“I bet Miroku knows about him.” Sango said. “He has a BA in philosophy and minored in theology, I mean if Min really knew so much then surely Miroku came across something in his years studying.”
“Good idea.” Kaede said. “But can we let him in on this?”
“Well… if we can’t then we’ll just tell him its for curiosity and not necessity.” Sango shrugged, “A little white lie never hurt.”
“Okay.”
It was agreed and the plan was set in motion. There had to be information on time travel in Tai Yi Min’s many books and theories… there just has to be.

Yep – that’s all for now! ^.^
