Down The Well and Back Again
Prologue
My life went to hell 7 years ago. You see, I am not normal. Never was, never will be. My name is Kagome Higurashi and I live at sunset shrine with my Mom (Sukie), grandpa and my brother Souta. I spent most hours in the well house which quickly turned into days- weeks at times.
Now I bet my story starts to look particular, does it not? Well when I was 16, I came upon a secret that lay dormant in the well for five centuries. You see my cat Buoy wondered into well house and my brother, being only 10 and scared, had me go retrieve our over weight feline. Only problem was, when I went to get our cat, a centipede demon pulled me down the well. Thankfully I came out of the situation alive, only to find my self in the Warring Era of Feudal Japan.
From then on, I went back and forth between times. I discovered my unknown miko powers thanks to an old priestess named Kaede. One other small detail: I possessed the sacred jewel of four souls, shikon no tama, the jewel of power; what ever you want to call it. Apparently, all the other demons wanted power; they wanted the jewel for evil purposes. One succeeded to steel it. Though, I was able to make sure it was taken out of the creature's care, but at a price. I accidentally shattered the jewel into pieces that flew all over the island. Inuyasha never let me forget that.
Inuyasha is a half demon that wanted the jewel at first, but with a major influence from a rosary and the word sit, he soon became an ally and good friend. I am positive he never appreciated the rosary though. Later on in my travels, a young fox demon named Shippo, perverted monk named Miroku and demon slayer named Sango joined our quest to find the sacred jewel shards and take down our greatest enemy Naraku. We soon became one big happy family.
As time went on, Inuyasha's dead lover was summoned to Earth. She walked around in a clay body feasting off of the souls of dead women. I was her reincarnation and the worst part was I was in love with Inuyasha and Inuyasha could not choose between us.
In the end we defeated Naraku, Kikyo was put to rest and I had a secret. The last week I saw my friends and lover- Inuyasha would not speak to any one. He would sit up in the God tree all day and mourn the lose of Kikyo. And so…
….I ran, taking with me his unintentional reminder. He not only still haunts my dreams, but my sight. For the child, belongs to him. 7 months and one week later Sakura Keini Higurashi was born and she was the spitting image of her father…Inuyasha.
I have never gone back since that fateful day.

Summer has come and passed
The innocent can never last
wake me up when September ends
like my fathers come to pass
seven years has gone so fast
wake me up when September ends
here comes the rain again
falling from the stars
drenched in my pain again
becoming who we are
as my memory rests
but never forgets what I lost
wake me up when September ends
summer has come and passed
the innocent can never last
wake me up when September ends
ring out the bells again
like we did when spring began
wake me up when September ends
here comes the rain again
falling from the stars
drenched in my pain again
becoming who we are
as my memory rests
but never forgets what I lost
wake me up when September ends
Summer has come and passed

wake me up when September ends

twenty years has gone so fast

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
Spring, a wonderful season- flowers all a bloom. Through the twilight's smog you could see mother and daughter walking home from a movie.
Clearly child birth had no effect on the beautiful young woman. She walked with broad curvy hips that framed a flat stomach. Her eyes were a striking blue, like a pond frozen over in a winter storm. Raven black hair outlined her face, coming down in waves to mid back.
Next to her skipped a child of six, holding tightly to her mother's hand. Looking at the child, you would never think them to be of the same blood, let alone mother and daughter. She had a head of silver hair- as white as snow. On her face she wore golden eyes. If you looked closely, you would see her eyes speckled brown.
As unique as a flower- the little girl adorned the name Higurashi, Sakura; proudly walking next to her mother, Higurashi, Kagome. On both heads, were pink baseball caps. Kagome and Sakura had a secret, as you may have guessed. Under Sakura's hat lay two cut doggy ears.
The father no where in sight. No were in the current time. For Inuyasha lived 500 years in the past and he alone was the father.
7 years ago Kagome fled up the well, sealing it with a sutra. She then revealed a secret to her family, one which they excepted. Kagome was pregnant with Inuyasha's child. So Sakura was raised by the Higurashi family.
*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
“Mommy, at grandma's, can we go exploring?” pulled out of her ponderings, Kagome looked down at Sakura's cute, innocent face.
It was so hard to resist pleasing Sakura.
“Of course Sakura, but remember, grandma's house is now our home too.” said Kagome in that voice mothers reserved, special for their children. They came to a stop in front of the door and before Kagome could pull out here keys, the door slammed open to reveal none other then her mother.
“Kagome! Sakura! It's about time, I though something might have happened. Well, come on in.” welcomed Mrs. Higurashi, ushering them in just as the rain started to come down. “While you were out at the movies I unpacked your stuff for you. Oh, I am so glad your moving back in! Sakura, your room is your mom's old one and Kagome, you got grandpa's room. (AN: Kagome's grandpa died a couple years ago) Now what do you two want to eat?”
“Ramen!” screamed an overly enthusiastic six year old as she ran in to the kitchen. “Just like her father” murmured Kagome. The sadness and pain was so evident in her voice, it hurt Mrs. Higurashi to see her daughter that way.
“She looks like her father too.” Stated Mrs. Higurashi as she felt her daughter's pain.
“It pains me mom . . . she resembles him in so many different ways.”
“Kagome, if it pains you then why not put Sakura under a concealment spell?”
“Then I would be denying Sakura her true self. She would become ignorant to her abilities. Not to mention, she changes forms as the sun sets.”
“Why not Kagome? You denied her of her father and the result is ignorance toured the subject!”
“Why must you bring this up? I do not wish to argue!”
“Because, the day that she will become curios and ask draws near.”
“You sound like grandpa…” Kagome instantly looked at her mother, knowing she had come across a wound not yet healed.
“I miss your grandfather. He was the only thing left connecting me to your father. Well, may be that isn't true. I have you and Souta.”
“Will all miss him, mom…we all do.” With that said, the conversation ended there. Both women walked back to the kitchen, only to find Sakura and a huge mess. `It's going to be a long night.' though Kagome.
*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*That Night*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
Kagome lay in her bed, unable to sleep and unable to close her eyes in peace. It was nights like this that she hated. The damn nights that brought with it the rain. The thunder would keep her awake and that's when she'd wonder. Her thoughts had been known to wonder and when they wondered it was dangerous. It was dangerous because they would eventually wonder to hi- `No!' And there in lies the problem.
`BANG', went a crack of lightning. Back to square one. She got so frustrated at times she felt like standing in the middle of the room screaming till her voice went hoarse. That's when she heard it. That's when everyone heard it. The neighbors, the neighborhood and anyone else in that forsaken area at the time.
A blood curtailing scream could be heard though out the night. The owner of said voice was Sakura. Seconds after the scream Mrs. Higurashi and Kagome came flying into the room.
There, in her bed, lay Sakura floating in midair, consumed in a blue glow and drenched in sweat. The miko powers she inherited from Kagome were out of control. She had obviously, already changed forms, and now looked like her mother's twin. Just as Souta entered the room, Kagome lifted her hand and said in a demanding voice, “Be still!” and visualized Sakura at peace. Like that Sakura was resting on her bed again, her powers under control.
Now here is were you say, `Back up, rewind- wasn't Sakura a half demon?' This is true. By day Sakura is half demon and by night she becomes a human miko.
“Mom, what am I going to do? This can't continue any longer!” cried a panicked Kagome who was about to go into hysterics.
Mrs. Higurashi, being the only calm and reasonable one at the time, decided to tell her daughter the straight out truth of the mater which Kagome refused to see. Putting her hand on Kagome's shoulder she spoke with an even tone.
“Kagome this is going to be hard for you to hear, but I believe you have no chose. Your options have run out.”
“Don't say it mama-“
“Kagome, you have to tell Sakura the truth and take her back down the well. Take her back down the well in search of Kaede.”
“I can't mama-“Kagome replied with just as much ferocity as her mom had calmness, “I'll surely run into Inuyasha!”
That comment snapped a resolve in Souta. Inuyasha was and will always be his hero. A red faced Souta yelled, “Inuyasha should have known ages ago, sis. Far before me or mom!”
“Shut up Souta, you are, but 17 and have no say in this matter, besides family comes first!” How dare he! Was no one on her side, she should get the sympathy- not Inuyasha. Of course that was the last thing she wanted before, but it might have helped her a little at the moment.
“Inuyasha is family! He's the father!” cried Souta, more then frustrated as he stomped his foot on the ground as if to get his point across as a ten year old would do.
“That's enough the both of you!” stepped in a horrified Mrs. Higurashi at her children's behavior. “Kagome, don't speak so rudely to your brother and Souta, don't speak out of line.”
As Kagome huffed, Souta just shrugged his shoulders and sauntered over to his niece, showing his indifference. “You two may talk about it all you want then. I am taken Sakura for some fresh air.” Souta didn't give either women time to reply, and hauled a half sleeping Sakura out of the room.
Souta decided to be a bad Uncle, and gave caffeine to Sakura. Sakura reacted to the caffeine like any child would, she became hyperactive and aware. Souta guessed he would have to wear her out a little before she would be able to listen. To the swing set, they went. 20 minutes later he hurried her to the well house.
“Hurry Sakura! You must be as quiet as possible and never take off your hat, understood?” whispered Souta, urgently to Sakura, as he placed a base ball cap on her head, over where her ears would be when the sun came into view.
“Yes Uncle Souta, now tell me where we are going.”
The only reply was “The well house.” The well house was located near the entrance, beside the God tree. She remembered it, her mommy told her never, Never, NEVER, to go near the well.
Deep inside Souta's brain, some twisted logic said to get Kagome and Inuyasha together, give this child her father and control of her powers. This pointed to him giving a little push, a little push to Sakura right down the well that is. And in turn, Kagome and Inuyasha would become lovers again and they'd be one big happy family with Sakura, like it was suppose to be.
As they entered the well house, Sakura looked at her Uncle curiously. Souta stared right back. God, Sakura looked just like Kagome at the moment. Those big winter pale blue eyes full of questions. Raven black locks in messy pig tails at the sides of her head.
“Sakura…” started Souta, unsure how to put it. `It's a long story, I don't know all the details…I'll just let Kaede tell her.' “Listen to me. I am going to send you down this well and when you come up, you'll be in the past…with me so far?” Sakura encouraged him to continue with a nod of her small head. “When you get to the other side, you need to find the one that goes by Kaede, seek her out- do what ever you can to find her. She can tell you how to control your powers and where your father is.”
“My father…does that mean I get to meet him?” asked a now very excited Sakura as she fidgeted with the bottom of her shirt.
“You might- just remember the name Kaede.”
“…But Uncle Souta, I don't even know my dad's name! Mommy gets sad when I ask, I don't like it when she is sad.”
Souta hugged his niece, she was so innocent, letting go was harder then he planned. “Inuyasha- Inuyasha, Takashi.” He whispered before pushing her down the well. Souta returned to the house, putting his last hopes on his six year old niece.
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~2 Hours Later in the House~*~*~*~*~*~*~~*
Kagome and Mrs. Higurashi had been arguing ever since Souta and Sakura left the room and they finally came to a compromise.
“I promise to sleep on it mom.” In Kagome's language though, that was a definite no. “Good night”
“Good night Kagome, go find your brother and daughter and wish them good night for me please.”
“Ok.” As Kagome walked down stairs in search of her brother and daughter she found the kitchen light on. She should have though of that- a midnight snack. “Souta I though you said you were going to go for fresh air with Sakura.”
“I did, I came in a little while ago.” Replied souta as he poured him self a glass of milk.
“Then where is your niece?” asked a now impatient Kagome as she tapped her foot repeatedly on the ground, waiting for a reply.
“I was watching through the window, last I saw her was about 2 hours ago, she was exploring and headed for the well house. Hey Kagome, you th- Kagome.......Kagome!” To late, she was gone.
Now Souta wasn't lying to his sister, he was just running around the truth. Not that it mattered at the moment anyways.

Realization Struck Kagome fast. She ran to the well house, screaming out Sakura's name. What met her ears where her own shouts. No reply. Out of frustration she screamed, “No, no, no, No, NO! Damnet, she could be killed!” Souta was definitely going to pay for this one. Note to self; Never leave your teenage brother in charge of your six year old child!

Sakura
Feudal Japan
“Wow!” Exclaimed Sakura. She climbed out of the well and found herself in a forest. “Daddy lives in the woods!” Looking around she saw a worn down path that lay in front of her. Being curios and with no where else to go, she started walking down the path. The path led her straight to the God Tree.
“I know you!” smiled Sakura to the tree with a whisper. She remembered, mommy would often sit gazing from under the same tree at home.
Flash Back
Kagome saw a flash of white and silver hair before she was jumped by her own child. So much for a peace and quite visit. At times like these she would allow the memories of Inuyasha to come flooding back into her mind.
“Mommy, what ya doing?” asked an over curios little girl.
“Oh I was thinking Sakura. You know this tree, it's centuries old. We call it the God Tree. You know I met your father here. This is a sacred tree Sakura. One that must be respected. When in doubt, come to this tree. Miracles happen here.”
“I will mommy.” Said a star struck Sakura as she gazed at her mother in a new light. She looked up to her mother's wisdom. But she was also surprised, her mom never mentions her dad.

Present
Sakura looked up at the God Tree with respect reserved just for this sacred part of nature. Suddenly her gaze caught a nich, man caused imperfection in the trunk. The hole looked as if it had been caused by an arrow. Still being curios, she reached up and poked a finger in the hole. Just like that she was shown memories of the past.
“Inuyasha…”said a beautiful ravened haired girl in a warning tone.
“Mommy” recognized Sakura, her voice temporarily misplaced.
“Don't you dare wrench!” spoke a man who oddly enough, looked just like her self in the day.
“…sit!” and the one named Inuyasha slammed into the ground and ate his share of dirt.
And just like that, she was staring at the whole again. Disconnecting her finger from the tree, she circled the tree, and spotted a village in the distance. Off she went in search of the one named Kaede.
Now nearing the village, she looked around. It was still night. At least the sun was not in the horizon yet. Then she spotted a lady and waved as, she walked up to the very confused woman. All Sakura thought was, “May be she can help me.'
“Hi!” confidently spoke Sakura as she halted right in front of the woman.
“Hello there. Isn't it past your bed time? Are you lost?” asked the nice lady as she kneeled down to eye level.
“No and yes”
“No and yes?”
“Are you Kaede?”
“I am afraid not. Can I help you find her?”
Sakura just could not resist the urge to not say what she said next. “I don't know, can you?
The lady looked stunned for a minute; Sakura took this chance to look the woman over. She was pretty with long brown hair and soft brown eyes, a little older then her mother. The difference was, this lady was pregnant. Never the less, this lady reminded her of chocolate.
The woman failed miserably at trying to stifle a giggle, then replied, “May I help you find this Kaede? I happen to be friends with her.”
“Yes, thank you Mrs. ___?
“Sango- call me Mrs. Sango.”
“Ok Mrs. Sango. You can call me Sakura.” With that said, the two of them headed due east, past the fields to Kaede's hut.
