InuYasha Fan Fiction ❯ Dr. Miko ❯ Chapter 5 ( Chapter 5 )

Morning came too early for the likes of a certain doctor. She rolled away from the window letting in the offending light and buried her face into the soft, warm body in her bed. There was grunting heard as the two snuggled closer together and she almost let a small sigh escape her lips when the whole moment shattered. She sat up quickly and grabbed the hand, which had assaulted her backside under the covers, and twisting it painfully in the wrong direction.
"Ow ow ow ow ow ow ow! Geeze, you're even violent this early in the morning?" The dark haired man stretched, as soon as he was released, and wrapped his arms around the fuming veterinarian. He pulled her back flush with his bare chest, letting the warmth of his skin spread over her and calm her. She responded eagerly, melding into him and lifting her head to kiss the left side of his neck, earning her a deep husky moan. Out of the corner of her eye, she caught sight of the clock on the side table.
"Aiya! It's quarter till eight! I was supposed to be at work an hour ago, Gods Kagome is gonna KILL me!" She leapt from the bed and bolted into the bathroom, washing and brushing her teeth hastily. Miroku only chuckled and lay back into the mess of covers, remembering the night they had shared. His smile grew with each freshly remembered detail. Sango came rushing out, her hair wound loosly in a messy bun and wearing no makeup, her freckles dotting her normally bare cheeks. The man couldn't contain himself anymore. He grabbed her from behind as she bent over to put on her shoes, tossing her back onto the bed and strattling her tiny waist to hold her down as she struggled against him.
"You… are… so… hot…" he mumbled between kisses.
"Damn it Miroku, I'm so late… I cant do this… now…" her resolve slowly melted away and she gave into to his kisses. She wrapped her arms around his neck and pulled him taught against her, feeling he delicious sensation of his hard muscles pressed against her supple form. She scooted backwards toward the other side of the bed as the dark haired man continued to love her body, reaching as far as she could towards the table beside the bed. Her fingers stretched and tangled in the phone chord, bringing it to her ear and then using all of her concentration to remember and dial the hospital number while her lower half twisted and writhed in pleasure.
"Can I speak to Dr. Higorashi?" came the breathless question. Within seconds, the phone was picked up and Sango had to hold the receiver away from her ear as shouting filled the air.
"Sango, are you ok? Where are you? What's wrong?" Her friend's voice was laced with worry and Sango began to feel bad about what she was about to do.
"Kag, honey, I cant make it in today. I'm swamped with paper *gasp* work. I'm sorry… can you handle it alone? I'll *oooh* make it up to you." The heavy breathing in the background gave her away and Kagome tried to be angry but the smirk just kept spreading.
"Ok, well you do what you gotta do, girl. Oh, and give Miroku the ride of his life because you're pulling a double tomorrow." Sango let out a weak giggle as she hung up the phone and her partner just shook her head. She looked down at the two dogs that sat at her feet. "Well, guess it's just me today. I need you two to give me a hand, alright?" Shippou nodded vigorously at the chance to be of use to his mother while Inuyasha just rolled his eyes.
"Feh, weak human can't even do her own job alo…oof!" His sentence was cut short when the puppy's head connected with his stomach. The little pup's lips curled in a smirk as he followed his mother down the hall towards the surgery room.
She slid open the door to see Kagura sitting in front of a microscope, tentatively taking notes while Rin danced and sang as she set up for the first surgeries, laying out the gloves, gown, and the pack of sterile instruments. She jumped when the vet laid her hand on her shoulder.
"Oh my Gods, don't do that!" Kagome and Kagura chuckled as the usually bubbly tech tried to catch her breath. Even Shippou and Inuyasha got in on the amusement, the younger pup yipping loudly and the older one letting out a gruff bark and a wicked grin.
"Ok ladies, its just me today; Sango's… occupied and wont be coming in so I'm really gonna need your help to stay on top of every thing. So, let's get started; Rin, take these and premed the two dogs in for their spays, Kagura, you finish up that diagnosis and prep the cat in isolation for x-rays and I'm gonna run up front and let the front desk girls know Sango's not coming in." All three scattered to fulfill their missions.
Kagome started down the long corridor towards the front, her two dogs still following close behind, awaiting their orders. "Ok, Shippou, I want you to stay with the patients in for surgery, make them feel comfortable and let them know that they will be alright. Inuyasha, you stay with me and give me a hand with the patients I will be examining." She reached down and picked up the puppy, holding him out in front of her and landing a kiss on his wet nose. "I'm counting on you Shippou."
"I wont let you down, Momma." She put him down and watched him scamper down the hall to the room they had just left. She turned to the silver haired canine and smiled, her silken hair flowing over her small shoulders and mesmerizing him.
"I'm counting on you too, Inuyasha, and as part of the family, you get one for the road," she said as she bent low and gave his muzzle a soft kiss and his ear a quick tweak. He looked up into her eyes as she winked and headed towards the desk. He couldn't move; her words and actions had startled him beyond recovery. `Family?' He hadn't had a family since… since before he cared to remember. The last of his family, his older brother, had disappeared sometime ago, just before his curse had come to be. How his brother would laugh at seeing him as he was now, a flea bitten mutt… but it didn't matter to him now, he was a part of a new family. His feelings for the woman were strong, stronger than any he had ever felt, stronger than he let himself believe, and with that one kiss, she had shattered any hopes he had about suppressing those feelings. He rolled his eyes at himself. `She's human, baka. Why would you even think of her like that? She could never love you as you are… if at all…' He had to stop; he was driving himself crazy. "I need to take my mind off her… wonder what my old friend Jinenji's up to these days."
The day went by rather smoothly. Knowing that Dr. Taijiya wouldn't be in, the receptionists were sure to schedule appointments with enough time between for Kagome to get to them all as well as leave her time to fit in her surgeries. Rin and Kagura were flawless in their execution of all of Kagome's requests, which considerably lightened the doctors load. By the afternoon, they had the system down and were moving along until a sharp yell caught Kagome off guard and she turned to see all the commotion.
Inuyasha had him cornered, a young man no more than 16 years old. He had jet-black hair and freckles across his nose. What had really gotten the canine's attention though was his scent. Sakuras, gardenias, and freshly tilled earth; two of the most prominent smells that made up Kagome's scent. What ever this boy's relationship was with his woman, it was over as of now. Inuyasha let out a stern bark and raised his lips to allow the kid a glimps of the glistening fangs hidden within. Just then he felt a sharp pressure on one of his ears as it was twisted and pulled backwards.
"What the hell are you doing, Inuyasha? This is my brother! Leave him alone and go find someone else to pick on." Kagome shoved him aside with her leg and ran up to hug the boy; who had turned almost white in fear. "Souta, what are you doing here?" He shook himself and regained his composure.
"Hey sis, nice dog. Rabid?" She socked him lightly in the shoulder.
"No, he's just new and protective. What brings you to my side of town? Lookin' for babes?" She received a counter blow to her shoulder and the two burst out laughing. "Come into my office, I have two more appointments then I'm done and I'll take you to dinner and we'll talk."
"Well, that's what I'm here about sis, Mr. Taijiya sent me and Kohaku here to bring you and Sango to dinner with him. He says he has some things to discuss with you two, but I think he's just gonna fire you both." With a swift knock to the head, her brother slumped in the chair, eyes spinning (anime style) as the raven-haired vet marched out of the office and into the next exam room.
By the time Kagome arrived home that evening, she found Sango waiting for her in her apartment, nervously pacing the kitchen. There were remnants of Girl Scout cookies all over the counter and the chocolate smear across the older girl's cheek was evidence of her binging.
"Kag, you're finally home. I hope you don't mind me waiting here… I ate some of your cookies… ok, all of your cookies… and some milk too. Did you hear that Daddy wants to see us tonight? Kohaku said he had things to `discuss'… did I mention that I ate all your cookies?" The woman was unnaturally pale, the chocolate stain showing the startling contrast plainly, and she rambled incoherently as Kagome stared confusedly at her from the doorway. Even Shippou snuggled in closer to his mother at the sight of the usually calm and cool Sango in this out-of-control semblance.
"San- chan, I'm sure it nothing to get upset over, he probably just wants to see how things are shaping up," Kagome soothed, using a childhood nick name for her best friend in hopes of calming her nerves.
"I… I don't know, Kag… what if something's wrong, what if we've been doing a bad job, what if we're not making enough money, *gasp* what if he's closing us down?" Sango broke down into soft sobs as Kagome moved to comfort her, cradling her in her arms and rocking slowly back and forth, the way her mother used to sooth her when she was upset. Shippou and Inuyasha watched intently from the couch as the two girls stood silently in the kitchen, leaning on one another for support. Kagome broke away first and lifted her friend's eyes to meet her own.
"Sango, when we first got the news that we would be opening our own practice, do you remember what I asked your father? I asked him what would become of our hospital if he ever sold it, remember? He gave us his word that we would be taken care of and I know he would never lie to us. Now, there is one box of cookies left, hidden in the back of the freezer. I want you to eat a few while I go get ready and then we're going to dinner, ok?" Sango wiped her nose on the back of her hand as fresh tears started to form in her eyes. "San- chan, honey, what is it? Are you ok?" Kagome's arms encircled her friend again as she burst into tears.
"I already ate the cookies out of the freezer!" she sobbed.
