"I'm glad you both could make it," Mr. Hiraikotsu said as he hugged both girls, taking in the ragged appearance of his only daughter. "I took the liberty of ordering us a bottle of wine, white as you prefer, Kagome. We have a lot to talk about." Out of the corner of his eye, he noticed both women stiffen and wondered what had them both on edge. They say in an elegant booth with a window that faced out over the large bay, the dark water shimmering slightly with the reflection of the city lights. Soft violin music wafted in from the main dining room and Kagome couldn't help but think it would be a romantic atmosphere, if she weren't so nervous… or there with Sango and her father.

"So, uh, Daddy… what is it you wanted to talk to us about? Nothing bad I hope," Sango asked with a nervous giggle. Her father returned her laugh with a hearty chuckle.

"No, no… is that why you're so stressed out, honey? I just wanted to congratulate you on what an excellent job you two have done. I get comments every day from clients of yours, I know many people around town and word spreads fast. In fact, you two have been doing so well that I've had many offers of contractors who wish to purchase the business from me." His last words shocked the two women into silence. Was he really considering selling their hospital right out from under them? Kagome felt her body go stiff, her muscles bound tighter than a rubber band ball and her knuckles white. A movement caught her eye, a flash of white at the restaurants entrance, and then she caught sight of him, her breath halting and her throat drying like the Sahara in July. Chiseled features and impeccable taste, and he was heading towards their table with grand strides. Kagome's heart fluttered in her chest as his shadow fell on her shoulder.

Inuyasha paced the living room, making quick circles at the edges. Tonight was the night. He had never been in a situation like this on this night, usually preferring to be in a dark alley, somewhere deep in the city. But here, in his new home… how would he explain it to the kid? More importantly, how would he explain it to Kagome? A quick glance at the clock told him he still had about an hour till dark and sighed gently with limited relief. Shippou sat on the edge of the couch, engrossed in whatever cartoon he was watching and the silver beast stepped into the path of the captivating images.

"Time for bed, runt."

"Kagome said I could finish my shows before I had to go to bed. She's the boss, not you." The youngster moved to the other side of the couch to see around the obstruction.

"Tonight I'm in charge and I say go to bed, now, before I put you there." He moved in front of the pup again, demanding full attention.

"What's with you anyway? You don't even like it here. I thought you wanted to `get back out on the streets.' That `you were only staying one more night…'" Shippou taunted, repeating Inuyasha's nightly threat. It was true, he did want to return to his old life; no rules, no obligations, no one else. The freedom to do anything and go anywhere he chose to. However, that meant leaving the comforts of a home… and her.

"What do you even stay for?" The question rang in his ears. Why did he stay? Because of her, because no one had ever cared before, because most people that saw him feared him, or turned their noses up, seeing only a dirty mangy dog. Kagome saw through that, she saw that there was more to him than what people could see, perhaps she even saw deeper to the man he once was. She accepted him as he was and treated him as she would anyone else. That was why he stayed. As well as the fact that she had stirred feelings in him that he hadn't felt in more than a century.

"I stay because of her, and that's all you need to know. Now go to bed or I'll get mad." Shippou sighed in defeat and stepped on the channel changer, shutting off the TV. He turned to Inuyasha on his way out of the room.

"You may not like it, but you're a part of this family now. Kagome saved you just like she saved me." His tiny eyes filled up with tears. "She took you in, fixed you up, she even lets you sleep in her bed. She cares for you and if you plan on hurting her, leaving one day and never returning, do it now and spare us the sadness and heartache." The larger dog moved to his side, bringing his large fluffy tail around the puppy's body.

"If I leave now, who will teach you to be the big, bad, junkyard dog I know is in that skinny body somewhere. Face it kid; you need me just as much as I may need you. You're stuck with me." With that, he ushered Shippou into the bedroom, grabbing him by the scruff and tossing him on the high bed. "Now go to sleep, there are some things I have to do but I'll be back before you wake up." The pup yawned, his little teeth bared and tongue curled. He circled a few times and then plopped down on the down pillow, the place most concentrated with his mother's scent. Watching form the doorway, Inuyasha smiled and nudged the heavy door closed.

He jumped onto the couch. The clock read 6:59 and the large beast took one last deep breath. The tingling sensation ran the length of his spine as the hair on his back began to thin and recede. His tail became shorter and finally disappeared. Paws elongated and the razor sharp claws became nails; ears slipped lower and muzzle flattened into a straight nose and a strong chin. the feeling of bare skin was a sensation he rarely felt but always dreamed of. Stretching the newly restored legs and arms, he pushed off the couch to stand on the limbs of his natural body. In either form he was muscular and trim, however now the muscles stretched, pulled along longer bones and an upright body, silhouetting a handsome figure of a roughly 25 year old man. It was then that he realized this appearance; a 25 year old, naked, man. Rushing as well as he could manage on the still shaky legs, he entered the guest room and rummaged though the old clothing, and finding left over clothes from the last time her brother had stayed there. He slid on the spare boxers and an old pair of dark colored jeans that sat low on his hips. They ended up slightly snug, but complimented his toned legs and ass quite nicely. Rummaging a little further, he produced a knit sweater in stealy charcoal grey, perfect for the cool night air. Shoes were another story. All he managed to find were an old pair of flip flops and hiking boots, caked in mud.

He sighed and slid on the flips, rolling his eyes as they clicked and popped en route to the front door. As quietly as he could, he opened the door, pausing to check the entrance of Kagome's bedroom for the puppy, before shutting it behind him, leaving the lock unlatched so he could slip back in later.

"Ah, just the man we were talking about. Girls, I'd like you to meet the man who will be buying your practice." Sango turned to her left to see the man and her jaw fell in her lap. He was beautiful, if you could call a man beautiful; but that's what he was. His face was smooth as silk, stretched over perfect features and blemish less. His eyes were molten gold, sucking in her gaze like a vacuum and his sculpted lips formed a dashing smile that promised mystery and pleasure. Dropping her eyes, she took in the tailored suit and pressed trousers. She felt she could die and heaven would never compare his statuesque presence. That's when she noticed where his own gaze fell, on the slight but equally impressive form of her best friend and colleague.

"Dr. Higorashi, it is an honor to see you again." He held a hand out to her and she slowly returned the gesture. He lowered himself and pressed his lips to the smooth back of her petite hand, flashing a brilliant smile. Kagome's cheeks flushed deep as her wine and she returned half the smile. He turned to Sango and extended his hand again. "And you must be her equally talented partner, Dr. Hiraikotsu. I've heard great things from your father." He winked and kissed her knuckles as well before seating himself. Mr. Hiraikotsu tilted his wine glass and chuckled at both of the red-faced girls.

"This is Mr. Taiyoukai, a prestigious business man and well worth his weight in gold." Both men saluted each other with their glasses.

"Well, Mr. Taiyoukai…"

"Sesshoumaru, please," he interjected. Kagome nodded once.

"Sesshoumaru, are you, as your name implies, a demon?"

"That depends," his eyes boring into her stormy blue orbs, "on who you ask." Mr. Hiraikotsu gave another hearty chuckle before starting into the business at hand. He explained Sesshoumaru's offer to buy the hospital from Taijiya Corp and take over property management. "A new contract will be drafted, naming you two as the doctors in chief and the clinic will remain under your control. Leasing and rent will be determined based on your client intake rather than a set rate until you've built a steady clientele." The offer seemed flawless and agreed to take the next week to think over the offer, though it was Taijiya Corp's decision, they knew he would not agree unless they did. Business out of the way, the four ate their meal and enjoyed the company, chatting lightly and learning as much as they could about the mysterious man beside Sango's father.

"So, after Harvard you returned to Japan and started a firm, began buying profitable business, and became a national icon of wealth and power." Sango smiled as the man considered her compliment. Her body language was finely a tuned to his movements and she wore a sexy grin that made Kagome roll her eyes at the obvious flattery. He raised an eyebrow and brought his eyes back to hers.

"I suppose that's one way of putting it." He was impressed with Mr. Hiriakotsu's daughter; she had a quick wit and was blatantly beautiful; however, it was the other woman who caught his eye. She was quiet throughout dinner, though he could tell that she was out of character, remembering how boisterous and open she was when he had watched her in the hospital. Apart from the growing reputation of the business, she was the reason he had decided to move so quickly into negotiations for it. She was complex and beautiful, he knew she had a wild streak and a temper buried under the professional etiquette, and it intrigued him. As they left the building, stopping curbside at the valet booth, Sesshoumaru handed each woman a card.

"When you decide, please feel free to call my office. My private line is listed and you can reach me any time," turning to Kagome, he added, "Or if you need someone to show you the town, my cell number is on the back." When his car came around, a sleek black porche, he winked and slid in, leaning over to the passenger side window, he yelled "don't hesitate to call," before disappearing off into the night.

In Sango's car, over the blare of the radio, the girls discussed the offer… both of them.

"Kagome, I will stop being your friend, quit the business, and move to Sweden if you do not call that handsome man. Did you see him beg? It was so obvious…"

"More obvious than the drool on your chin through out dinner?" Kagome countered. `"Oh Sesshoumaru, you're a national icon, so rich and famous…'" she teased.

"Yea well, someone had to hit on him. He's a God, Kagome. Did you see those eyes? I could have eaten him on a stick."

"What about precious, adorable Miroku?"

"Com'on Kag! You have to ogle a man like that. Its proper female etiquette, didn't you read the manual?" They both laughed and the dark eyed girl smiled devilishly.

"Perhaps I will call the youkai and have him `show me the town'."

"And his bedroom." Sango giggled until she was slapped. "We have to go out and celebrate that." She winked, "I'll call my precious, adorable boyfriend and have him meet us at Fusion. He's gonna want to hear all about it."

He strolled the busy streets, loosing himself in the herds of people as they scurried into and out of the many nightclubs. He watched the beautiful women in their short skirts and open blouses talk and laugh with men, wishing there was one woman in particular by his side. Then, she was there. Her form-fitting black dress hugging her toned thighs and the halter dipping low enough to show her milky chest and a hint of cleavage. Sango and a man he didn't recognize pulled her along through the crowds, chatting and laughing wildly. Kagome's face was red and looked to be denying whatever it was the other two were talking about. She moved gracefully, avoiding poles and people that were in Sango's determined path. He couldn't take his eyes off of her, feeling the effects she had on him rise ten fold now that he was in his original body. She disappeared into a club a few doors down from were he rested against a light post. He headed in her direction, not missing the wide eyes and catcalls he received as he passed groups of women. `I still got it' he smirked inwardly.

The club was dark, flashing lights filled the crowded dance floor as he scanned the room for her face. He ordered a beer at the bar and turned to gaze at the crowd when he came face to face with her.

"Sess… oh, sorry, I thought you were someone else." She smiled and leaned over the bar next to him. "Ken! I need a Corona, a margarita on the rocks for Sango and, uh… what he's having." She turned back to him and nudged his shoulder with her own. Inuyasha gulped and collected himself quickly.

"Hey, put that on my tab," he replied smoothly. The bartender nodded and winked at her as he shook the Margarita. "Guess that answers the question, `come here often?'" he flashed a large grin and nudged her back. She laughed and the sound filled his ears and made his body tingle. She was definitely harder to resist as a human and he was slightly surprised there wasn't already someone in her life.

"What's your name, clever guy?"

"Inu… uh Kinu."

"Well, Kinu… hope to see you around sometime." She grabbed the drinks, struggling to pick up the third when his hand covered hers.

"Lemme get one of those for you," he offered. She grinned and nodded, leading him closer to the dance floor where Sango was seated in the lap of the man they had entered with.

"Sango, Miroku, this is my new friend Kinu."

"Well, my dear Kagome, you certainly have no trouble making friends," The man laughed before doubling over with an elbow in his stomach.

"What Miroku means is you certainly have no trouble making HOT friends." Kagome blushed violently and the other two burst into laughter.

"Just ignore them, they've had way too much to drink and took like 3 Viagra apiece." The laughing halted and it was Sango's turn to blush.

"I'll have you know, Kagome, that I need no assistance in that department, and I'd be more than willing to prove… Ouch, Sango, you're elbows are more bony than they look."

The thumping of the music took over the conversation and soon the couple made their way onto the floor, leaving Kagome and Inuyasha alone at the small table. She watched the man as his eyes wandered over the dancing bodies, finding him so familiar, yet unable to pinpoint where she may have know him from. The long silky white hair, the muscular physique, the wide toothy grin, strong arms holding her in the dark… oh no. suddenly, it hit her like a ton of bricks. It was him; her fantasy guy, the one she had dreamed about touching and making love to her. She could almost feel the long fingers on her face and the toned chest pressed firmly against hers. She had called out to him; she had called him by her pet's name, Inuyasha. She forced herself to forget everything she was thinking when her eyes met his questioning gaze.

"Did you zone out there for a minute?"

"Yea, guess all this noise and alcohol is getting to me," she admitted, though only a half-truth. She looked to the dance floor and saw her best friend and her boyfriend grinding away, totally engrossed with their fully clothed sex act. She smiled and shook her head, turning back to the handsome man seated on her right. "Wanna dance before I have to take my friend to Planned Parenthood for those moves?" He chuckled and took her hand, leading her out to the floor.

She let the beat wash over her, feeling the base vibrate through her limbs and chest. Slowly she began to move against him, swaying her hips in time with the pulse. His large hands wandered down her body and rested on her sides, keeping her within the open embrace. Gods, just the feel of her skin and the smell of her so close to him were chaffing his last ounces of control. He wanted her, wanted to feel her moving against him and be surrounded by her in all ways. She turned her back to him, pressing her firm ass into his pelvis and eliciting a deep moan from his dry throat. He thanked who ever was watching over him for the volume of the music which drowned out the grunts and moans each time she pressed against him. His hands held her firmly, pulling her back to maximize the contact and he had to concentrate to not let the proof of his excitement push her away, literally. Just as he was loosing himself in her, there was a tug on his arm and Sango and Miroku appeared beside them.

"Kag, we're taking off. All this foreplay isn't doing any of us any good. I think you should take this hotty home and call me in the morning; doctor's orders." Sango smirked and Kagome stuck her tongue out at the two as they headed for the door. She turned in Inuyasha's arms and reached up to whisper in his ear.

"As much fun as that sounds like, I'm afraid I have to work in the morning. I suppose I'd better go too." Glancing at her watch, she sighed. Morning had found her in the arms of a man she didn't want to leave. It had been so long since she just felt comfortable with someone holding her. His arms tightened around her and he turned his face to her's, their noses slightly touching.

"Well, I wouldn't want your patients to suffer because of me. Lemme walk you home." She nodded, wondering when she had told him that she was a doctor. All thoughts suddenly halted though when his smooth sculpted lips softly covered hers in a chaste but passion filled kiss. She melted into him, wrapping her arms tighter around his neck and deepening the kiss. It felt so right to be there in his embrace and she wished it would never end.

They had finally fought the crowds of people and emerged onto the street. The sky was lightening and stained in a deep rose, the shadows of night receding and giving way to a new day. Kagome clung to Inuyasha's side, unwilling to let his heat escape from her skin. He was lost in thoughts about her when he felt an odd sensation take over his body. He held her closer to him, when he suddenly realized she was not causing the chills he was feeling. The sun was rising in the east, trying to peak out from between the buildings and he gasped. He was beginning to change.

"Kagome," he said, his voice shaking with emotion. "I must go. I'm so sorry, but I have to leave you. I'll never forget this night." He leaned over her, crushing her small body to his and kissed her again before turning and running off into the bustling traffic on the street. She touched her lips, feeling the moisture of his mouth lingering there as she watched him disappear, her heart in her throat. She felt as if she might cry when she could no longer distinguish his back from all the people crowding around her. Slowly, she turned and headed home.
