InuYasha Fan Fiction ❯ Dragons ❯ Meeting ( Chapter 1 )

[ Y - Young Adult: Not suitable for readers under 16 ]

At a small pond near a village, there was a young girl. She was about 6 years old and was playing in the cool water, trying to escape the heat of the hot mid-summer day. The young girl was just sitting in the water, eyes closed, washing her back length inky black hair and her tan young supple body. She was humming a little tune that she had just created. She opened her unique smokey blue green eyes to look at the sun. Seeing sun was near the horizon, she sighed and quietly got out of the cool water of the pond.

She walked over to her clothing and a drying cloth. She kept humming as her dried off and put on her white simple tunic and brown peasant skirt that went past her ankles. She quickly brushed and put her long hair in a high pony tail. She looked around to make sure she didn't forget anything, but a sudden blast of wind distracted her. Her hair came out of the pony tail and covered her face.

She gave a huff and brushed it out of her face to see an interesting sight. There stood a young boy, a few years older than her, about 10 years old. He wore a skin skirt that went to his knees, and a simple white shirt with no sleeves. She could see a little fuzzy black tail swinging from behind him. He had black hair like hers that was held in a high pony tail. He wore a brown head band that kept his bangs out of his eyes.

The girl drew in a deep breath at the sight of his eyes. They were a light blue, but had a dark blue light in them. Never before had the girl seen eyes like his or hers. For all the other people had black or brown eyes.

The boy looked at the girl and also looked her over. He also looked shocked at the color of her eyes. The two children just stood there, looking at each other in a shock like trance. The girl was the first to snap out of it.

"Hello." Came her quiet, yet cautious voice.

"Hi." The boy's voice had a still shocked tone to it.

"Who are you? I have never seen you before."

"I am Kouga. I'm not from here."

But before they could continue their converstaion, a woman called Kagome's name from the village.

"Kagome! Time to do chores!"

The two children looked at the village and then back to each other.

"I must go. Good-bye. Maybe I will see you again" Then the girl, Kagome said as she turned and ran to the village.

The boy, Kouga, just stood there and just watched as the girl Kagome run to the village.
'Yes we will met again.' He thought before a another sudden wind came up, the dust settled and he was gone.

Later that same day.....................

Kagome was at the small river that ran right by the village She was washing clothing and some dishes. She was thinking of that young boy, Kouga. Kagome was suddenly snapped out of her thinking with the sound of screaming and roaring coming from the direction of the village.

She quickly jumped up, forgetting the clothing and dishes, and ran to the village. Kagome ran swiftly and stopped dead in her tracks at the sight she saw. There was fire burning everything; huts, grass and even people were running around on fire. There were many dead people on the ground, with either claw marks or burned black from fire, or both.

Kagome searched all about the village, looking for the soothsayer. She finally found the soothsayer at the edge of the village, tending to a young woman and child. Kagome sprinted over to her, dodging other villagers, and was soon at her side.

"Where have ye been child?" The soothsayer, Keade, asked.

"I was washing dishes and clothing at the river. I heard the screaming and roaring. What had happened Lady Keade?" Kagome asked, while she prepared herbs and bandages for the injured.

"They have. They did this damage to the village. It all stopped with the entrance of a smaller black one. It roared and they all left just before ye came." Keade said as she bandaged and healed.

"What are they?"

"They are worse than demons. They are creatures from the very bottom of hell its self. They are beautiful yet, deadly."

"But Lady Keade, you did not answer my question." Kagome protested, but was silenced with a glare from the soothsayer.

"You will soon find out child what they are. Do not worry now. We have several injured and dead." With that said, the soothsayer and child went back to work, healing those who needed help.

A few hours later, after the injured were tended to and the dead were buried, the village elder called a town meeting in the hut of the soothsayer, the only hut without serious damage and large enough to hold the amount of people.

"Quiet people!" The village elder, Tuso shouted out, silencing everyone. "We must find a way to protect ourselves from these beasts of hell. Does anyone have a suggestion?"

A few hands went up into the air. Tuso told Suka, a young tall man with brown hair and hazel eyes, to speak.

"I believe we should ask the nearby lord, Hiti, to help us. I have heard that he has trained special soldiers to kill these beasts."

"He will not do anything with nothing as payment. I have heard from other villages that he would take young women, married or not, as payment. He would keep them for a week and then throw them out with bruising and pregnant. Their husbands and family would not take them back because of that. I say we do not ask for Hiti's help. We will just suffer more." Jini, an older man with blackish hair and black eyes spoke out.

"Well, then what shall we do?" Tuso said, frusterated.

"Build a wall." A small, quiet voice floated to Tuso.

"Who said that?" Demanded Tuso.

"It was young Kagome here, Elder. I believe we should let her speak." Keade said. Everyone went quiet and turned to look at the strange young girl.

"Kagome do not be afraid. Please, speak out." Jini softly spoke.

"Build a wall around the village. Dig cellars in the ground to protect us from the fire. Use stone and dirt instead of wood and thatch." Kagome replied softly.

Everyone just stared at her, shocked that she would have an idea like that.

"I believe that would work. It will help with the beasts and also keep us safe from the demons that are in the forests. Does everyone agree?" Tuso asked. Everyone raised their hands. "Fine. We will start today buy being to dig holes for protection until the wall is up. Men, go and get the shovels and begin to dig by each hut or where the hut stood. Women, go and begin to light fires to use during the night. Go." Tuso ordered. Everyone left the hut to go and do their chores. "Wait Kagome. I would like a word with you." Kagome stopped and the two waited until everyone had left.

"How did you get that wall and cellar idea?" Tuso wondered.

"I just thought about it. Our huts have walls and keep things we don't want in, out. A hole keeps things preserved and safe." Kagome replied.

"I am glad you thought of this. Go to the river and get water for the men. They will need it." Tuso ordered before he left the hut. Kagome went and grabbed the buckets and went back to the river. She continued to go back and forth between the river and village all night.
