10 Years Later

Outside a small village, near a clearing with a small pond, sat a small hut. The hut was small, brown and was built right at the edge of the forest. If you did not look well, you would miss it, for the hut blended well in the darkness of the forest. Outside the hut were many small patches of flowers that were beautiful. Near the hut was a huge dark shadow that moved about, looking as if it was protecting the hut and the single occupant.

"Kagome! Hurry up! We must go to the market now before the best deals are gone!!!!" A young brown eyed, brown haired woman with a brown tunic and a long floor length brown peasant skirt, called into the hut. Her brown hair went down to her mid-back and was in a high ponytail.

" Alright alright! I'm ready. I don't get why we must go so early Sango." A woman grumbled as she came out of the small hut. She had ink black hair and rare smokey blue-green eyes. She was wearing a white tunic with a long skirt that dragged against the dirt road. Her hair was loose and went down, passed her butt.

"To get the best deals!!" The other woman, Sango squealed as she grabbed Kagome's hand and dragged her towards the village.

Kagome just sighed and ran along with her friend to the village. To be truthful, Kagome hated to go to the village. Everyone just stared at her eyes, hair, and in the case of men, her body. Soon though, everyone thought she had magical powers because of the rarety of her eyes. And soon she became an outcast. Kagome left the hut she shared with the village soothsayer and moved to the one that was outside the village wall.

As the two friends stop to wait for the door of the wall to open, Kagome thought about the wall that surrounded the village now. The wall had been built almost 10 years ago, when they appeared. In fact, it was that same day that they came that she had met the boy, Kouga. Kagome went into a trance as she thought of the young boy with his unique blue eyes. Kagome was jerked out of it when Sango grabbed her hand and jerked her into the village. Eyes immediately turned and watched her, and scorned her.

Kagome bowed her head and Sango looked back when she felt her friend slow down. Sango saw Kagome's head down and felt anger boil within her. Sango turned and gave everyone a death glare, which turned all eyes away. Sango walked over to her friend, not knowing that 2 blue eyes were watching the two young women, especially Kagome.

"I'm sorry Kagome. I forgot. Come, let us go back. I can come to the market some other time. Okay?" Sango said with a small smile. Kagome lifted her head, not to look at Sango, but over her shoulder and into a darkened corner and stared into 2 familiar blue eyes. The eyes stared into hers and then suddenly vanished.

Kagome quickly moved to the dark corner, but found nothing to be there. Suddenly everyone began to scream and run all around Kagome. She looked around saw burning huts and heard screaming, and roaring. She looked up into the sky and saw them. The beautiful creatures that haunted her.

They had long bodies, with long necks and tails. Some tails had sharp tips while others had a small pointy triangle on them. Each one moved on 4 legs. On each foot were 5 deadly claws that could shred a man to bits in one swipe. The most beautiful and interesting feature were the wings. Some had large, sturdy wings. While others had small, dainty wings. Each were different colors and each could put out powerful bursts of hot fire. They were called dragons.

Kagome loved to see them, as they flew about the sky. She loved to watch the largest, the leader, dragon. That dragon had beautiful black scales that covered the entire body. It had black spikes running down its neck and black claws on each foot. The wings were the largest she had ever seen and were also black.

Kagome loved to see this dragon and had been watching it since dragons first came. She had watched it grow to an adult while she also grew with it. Kagome felt better every time she saw this dragon, but did not know why. She just always felt at peace, as if she wasn't alone.

Kagome was jerked out of her day dreaming once again by Sango pulling her to the cellar of the soothsayer. Kagome was suddenly pulled away from Sango and was carried by a mob of men that had called her a witch. She saw that they were heading toward the gate of the village wall. Kagome was shoved out of the village and fell hard to the ground.

"There! Maybe now those winged demons from hell will leave us be!!!" The village elder yelled as the men shut the gate.

Kagome just lay there, waiting for her doom. She did not feel anything or hear anything except for a rumble in the ground. Kagome only thought that it was a building falling down. But when she heard a roar, she knew it was something else. She raised her head and was surprised to see a dragon standing before her.

It was the black dragon that she had admired from a far. Kagome slowly got up and stared into the dragon's black as night eyes. She felt drawn to them and didn't feel herself as walked to the dragon. Kagome snapped out of it when she felt the dragon's hot breathe on her face as she looked up into its face.

Kagome only went to the middle of the dragon's shin. Kagome didn't even scream or fight as she felt its tail wrap around her and pull her up to be put down on its back. She saw the dragon unfold and beat its wings and knew it was about to take off. She quickly grabbed onto one of its spikes as the dragon rose up into the sky.

Kagome winced when the dragon roared and she looked to see the other dragons stop and begin to follow the black dragon away from the village. The dragons flew swiftly and surprisingly quiet to their destination. Kagome felt her eyelids grow heavy and soon fell asleep, lulled by the steady beating of the wings. The black dragon turned its head to look at her and saw her fast asleep. Its mouth seemed to give a grin as it turned to face forward.

It was dark when the dragons had reached their destination. It was a valley hidden by dangerous mountains that no man could climb. The valley had a huge deep blue lake in the middle of it. There were large openings of caves in the sides of the valley. Many dragons landed, changed, and went to these openings.

The black dragon used its tail to grab Kagome and hold her up while it landed. The dragon did not want to hurt Kagome with its spikes. Kagome woke up with the landing and looked around with half awakened eyes. She felt at home in this valley. She looked over to the black dragon and became wide-awake at what she saw.

The black dragon began to shrink and go up to stand on 2 feet. Black hair replaced spikes; dark tan skin replaced black scales. Sharp nails on hands and feet replaced claws. Pointy tipped ears replaced wide ears. A fuzzy tail replaced the long, sharp, scaled tail. It was a man, about 20 years old, and he wore a fur skirt that went to his knees and a one shouldered, sleeveless white shirt underneath his shoulder and chest armor. The man opened his eyes and Kagome felt a twinge of memory of the boy named Kouga when staring into the now blue orbs.

The man gave a smirk and walked over to her. Kagome froze in place as he came closer. Soon Kagome was craning her neck, trying to stare up at his blue eyes as he towered over her, as he was almost 3 heads taller than her.

"We meet again Kagome." The deep, rough voice came out. It snapped her memory of Kouga and his eyes. It dawned on Kagome that her dragon, was Kouga, that boy of long ago.

"Kouga." Kagome whispered, breathlessly.

Kouga gave a smirk at his name. "I see you have remembered me Kagome. I have not forgotten you as well."

"What are you?" Kagome asked, still kind of shocked at the transformation. Kouga gave a laugh that rumbled across the valley and the other dragon/humans looked over to them.

"What is so funny about my simple question?" Kagome snapped at him while he stopped laughing.

"Nothing. Its just that you are not afraid of us, me especially. We are dragon demons."

"Dragon demons?" Kagome wondered aloud.

Kouga nodded his head. "Much larger than a pureblood dragon and more powerful. Dragons do not have a humanoid form and are few in number. Dragon demons have our true form and humanoid form. You can find our humanoid form by the unique color of our eyes." Kouga answered as he led her toward the largest cave that was set far apart from all the others.

Kagome let all of what Kouga just said sink in. Then something else dawned on her.

"But my eyes are colored. Am I also a dragon demon?" Kagome asked.

Kouga shrugged. "You could be a special bred of dragon demon. You may be a late transformer as well. You could also just have unusal eye coloring for a human."

"What special bred?" Kagome wondered as they stood before the entrance to the cave.

"May we speak of this later Kagome? I am tired from the flight and we are both hungry. Let us eat and rest and I will answer all questions you have tomorrow. Okay?" Kouga asked. Kagome, saw the fartigue in his eyes, and felt bad for bothering him.

"Yes. I am sorry. I did not mean to annoy you with all my questions."

"It is okay Kagome. I did not mean to make you feel bad. Now come let us eat. Do you like roasted lamb?" Kouga asked as they walked into the cave.

Kagome didn't answer. She had a hard time from tripping or running into something in the darkness. Suddenly there was a flash of fire and Kagome saw Kouga had began a fire in the fireplace using his fire breath. Kouga looked up, saw her amazed look, and smiled.

He walked over and grabbed her hand. The two froze when they felt electricity go through the small contact. Kouga snapped out of it and gently pulled her to a huge bed of furs. He sat her down and walked to another part of the cave. Soon Kouga came back with a huge chunk of lamb on his shoulder.

Kouga set the lamb down, grabbed the spit, and ran it through the middle of the meat. He set it all over the fire and then walked back to her to sit on the bed while the meat cooked. His tail was swinging back and forth and Kagome was mesmerized by the action and just watched it. Kouga chuckled at her as he leaned against the wall, keeping his tail moving back and forth.

"Why is your tail like a wolf's if you are a dragon demon?" Kagome wondered, unable to keep the question contained.

"We either choose a human form or mimic another demon's humanoid features, like this tail. I choose a wolf demon and so have the tail of a wolf as a disguise. Now come and eat. The lamb is ready." Kouga answered as he got up to get the meat. Kagome stood up and followed him.
