CHAPTER 8: GOD WE HATE EX'S
Life went on. But of course with some changes. Kagome's mother had worried about the cuts on her face, but Kagome only told her that she ran into a branch. It was the only thing that popped into her head after that very tantalizing kiss she had given Inuyasha outside her house. She fell asleep thinking of his warm lips, and woke up with her hand in a very embarrassing place. Man, if the boy didn't get to her! She saw him the next day and blushed profusely, but he only pulled her aside before class started, and only a few giggles were heard from the hall.
Ever since the dance, the relationships flared. Kenshin and Karou started going steady, Yusuke finally asked Keiko out, and Kouga brooded. Much to Kagome's satisfied pleasure, Miroku and Sango spent a lot of time together. I mean a LOT. If they weren't at school, then they were at Sango's house, sometimes Miroku's. Kagome asked about where he lived, but Sango avoided the question and gave her a lame `its cool'. Kagome didn't understand it. What was she hiding? Anyways, Sango's parents much approved of the charming Miroku. They were happy their daughter was dating a (cough pervert cough) `gentleman'. Miroku didn't mind Kohaku that much and very friendly with him. And he was often seen playing with a giggling Rin if Sango was busy. Miroku loved it at her house. It was so full of warmth and family, only something you could get in a big family. Mushin, his foster father could only give so much for the orphaned boy. If only his father hadn't been traveling in the US, he wouldn't have been sucked into the tornado in Colorado. But back to the present. Sango was very happy to be spending so much time with Miroku, he seemed like a whole different guy out side of school. Whenever he came over he was nice and courteous, and he loved playing with Rin. Only when her mother gave her some suggestive looks did she regret it.
Back at school, they could be caught hiding in some corner around the lockers or near the water fountains, cuddling or playing lightly. Giggles could be heard if Miroku nuzzled her neck or whispered flattering words or shared a comment on a certain person. To her surprise, Miroku kept his hands waist or higher, never once groping or touching needlessly in any inappropriate place, and remained gallant in his pursuits of her. The most intimate contact they had was when she dragged him out to the `middle' at the dance. Since then, Miroku's been careful of his wandering hands. With all the work his put in to break down his defenses, he was not about to screw this up. But much to his joy, he was the one who taught the wonders and joy of French kissing to Sango.
Though just as comfortable with each other, Inuyasha and Kagome weren't as public with their affections. They didn't kiss in public, but rather held hands down the hall, chatting quietly to each other. As they grew to know each other, silence was comfortable between them. When the weather was fair, they were seen under a tree eating lunch, Inuyasha sitting against the tree, Kagome leaning against his chest between his legs. They fought a lot too, but it was more for fun than real. They would break down into laughing fits if the fight got intense. One time, Kagome almost choked on her yogurt smoothie when Inuyasha made a comment about Kouga. They often went to movies; both liking the action packed ones, or went on a double dates with Miroku and Sango. Of course a half hour in, they would lose Miroku and Sango somewhere. Inuyasha visited the shrine, and her mother took an instant liking to him. Strangely enough, her Jii-chan was never around.
But on this particular day, when the fallen leaves of autumn whipped past faces and sailed down wet streets, very unwelcome guests arrived.
They were in homeroom, Sango and Miroku in the back, Inuyasha and Kagome next to them. Sango and Miroku were making googly eyes at each other, which made Inuyasha frown.
"Look at them, its pathetic. You'd think they never saw the opposite sex before." Inuyasha grumbled, leaning his chair back.
Kagome frowned at him then smiled as an idea popped into her head. She nudged over and seated herself in his lap. Though surprised at this show of affection, he easily welcomed the arms that entwined around his neck. She leaned close to his face. "I seem to remember a certain some one ogling at me when I came down stairs in a towel once."
"Don't start that again," he hissed. She only laughed and pecked his cheek.
She looked up to his black Echo hat and scrunched her brows. Again with a hat. Did her ever not wear one?
"Inuyasha," she said sternly, " I've had it, you always wear at hat. What to you have to hide?"
She reached up to snatch it but he caught her wrist. She couldn't see, she wouldn't understand. He just wanted this to last as long as it can with out her knowing.
"I'm not hiding anything!" he protested.
"Oh yes you are! Just show me, it can't be bad," she giggled as a mini fight broke out between them. She stood form his lap and struggled against his hands, reaching for the hat. Whenever she came close he ducked his head laughing. He jumped up form a close call and he chuckled at her feeble attempts to snatch his protective hat. She squeaked when he released one wrist to quickly tickle her.
"Not fair!" she laughed and hit her hip on the desk. Some of her papers went flying to the floor. She sighed at the mess. "Now look what you did."
She went to pick them up, but was caught in his sinewy arms as they encircled her waist and he pecked a kiss on top of her head. "I didn't do anything. You were the one fussing."
"Whatever," she rolled her eyes and crouched down. Mumbling she picked them up one by one.
The door opened, but she stayed down. Everyone saw as a handsome boy walked in, obviously new, and handed Ms. Akido a paper. She scanned it and smiled. She stood.
"Class, we have another transfer student. He just moved to the district and transferred from a local school. Please say hello to…"
"Please just call me Hojo."
Everyone stared interested at the tan haired boy with blue eyes, and some of the girls giggled. But Sango didn't. She was staring at him with horrified eyes, knowing exactly who he was. Miroku tried to get her attention but she only spared it for Kagome. Sango looked over at her to find her friend frozen while picking up papers, eyes wide. She went a little pale. Kagome looked up and connected with her. Panic. Inuyasha's brows furrowed at Kagome's tensed stance, and saw the exchange between the two friends. What's going on?
"Bathroom now," Sango whispered. Kagome only nodded, still kneeling on the floor.
Sango immediately raised her hand, making Miroku worry.
"Yes?" Ms. Akido saw her.
"May we go to the bathroom? Thanks," she didn't even wait for an answer. She only grabbed her stuff, and tugged Kagome out the door after Kagome got her stuff. Kagome hide behind a folder as she walked past Hojo. Hojo narrowed his eyes at the familiar figure. Kagome?
Inuyasha saw the stare and tensed his fist. What was that kid looking at Kagome like that for? And why did they just leave in a hurry? What the hell is going on? He looked over to a confused Miroku, who just shrugged. Your guess is as good as mine.
Sango burst out the door, Kagome in tow, and sped to the nearest bathroom. Oh, they so had to talk.
Before the kids could question the hurried departure of Kagome and Sango, that piercing bell rang, making Inuyasha wince like every time, and they walked out into the hall. Hojo walked to his next class with a girl who had the same one, keeping an eyes out for the stranger who past him. She was so familiar…
"What the hell was that about?!" Inuyasha growled. He didn't like it when his Kagome was bothered. Miroku caught up with him and they headed towards the nearest bathroom the girls headed.
"I don't know, do you think~" but then, the next uninvited guest arrived.
"Miroku, darling!" Miroku swung around and gulped at the recognized voice. Oh god, Sango was going to kill him.
