CHAPTER 31: THE TOURNAMENT

"And the winner, Inuyasha Sanosuke of Edo Ps. 138!" the PA system announced, and all of the Ps. 138 stood cheering. Which would be a good part of the stadium at this years Tokyo's Annual Kendo Tournament. While on the floor, Inuyasha waved to his school, most specifically Kagome, who was clapping like mad. The loser came up behind him and patted him on the shoulder, exchanging a smile and congrats. A towel was thrown his way, and he caught it with ease, whipping his forehead and neck of sweat. He sat down on one of the benches given to his section; sheathing the sword he had taken with him from home, and downed a water bottle. But now it was official. Inuyasha had made it to the semi-finals. Psh, like he wouldn't. He turned when Kenshin came to sit next to him, waiting for his turn.

Up, but not so far up, in the stadium seats, Kagome gave another cheer before sitting down next to Karou, who was here to cheer Kenshin no doubt. Kagome squirmed in her seat. Sitting for four straight hours was not very comfortable. Maybe she should have gone for the snacks.

"Hey Karou," Kagome turned to her, "when did Sango and Miroku go for something to eat?"

Karou looked down at her watch, and her eyes went wide. "Um…ha-ha…twenty minutes ago."

"Where are they? I'm getting hungry!"

Meanwhile, in one of the back hallways near the garage of the stadium…

She giggled, "we shouldn't be doing this, we're gonna get caught!"

His only response was a grunt as he buried his head on her shoulder and took a deep sniff of her perfume. She moaned when he nipped the same spot and licked it. His hands went up her shirt and over her smooth stomach. His went over her bra making her shiver. He smiled playfully and started tickling her lightly. She giggled loudly and pushed away from his hands. But he pulled her back and captured her lips passionately.

"Hmmmmmm….Miroku, we can't do this."

"Only if you want to," he breathed into Sango's neck, his tongue making its way up to her earlobe. Sango closed her eyes in giddiness. But when she opened them, they darted back and forth before she dragged him by the collar into a little indent in the wall. Miroku laughed as he was pulled into her embrace, her hands lifting his sweater to smooth over his lean chest.

"I thought you were afraid of being caught?"

She fisted his hair and looked deep into his eyes. "Just shut up and kiss me."

Much obliged, Miroku's hands went back to wandering and hers went down to give his bottom a nice squeeze. He gasped and pressed her to the wall. Running her fingers through his hair, Sango wrapped a leg around his waist and grinned when his kiss became heated.

"Oh god, Sango you drive me crazy!"

Her breath shallowed as he tongue traveled down her throat to the boundary of her shirt. "Well…you're not doing so bad yourself."

She bucked against him as he hand went under her bra, torturing a hardened nipple. He ground against her, making his passion known. It made her moan uncontrollably. Her hands started fluttering as they rubbed over shoulder and chest, heating them to her touch. His own hands were doing some magic, igniting the fire in her, making her grab him for another kiss. He did, but his hands went between them and unsnapped her jeans and down the zipper. He slipped his hand in and over her curls, and felt how wet she was. She titled her head and sighed when he touched her, his finger rubbing her slowly. He felt the vibration of her moans as he sucked on her neck.

"You like that? Huh?"

"Oh god…Miroku…"

"Want more?" she nodded her head feebly and arched against him when two fingers entered her. He pulled them out and went back in slowly, rubbing her jewel nice and slow, adding friction when her nails dug into his back. He went faster, twirling his fingers, and she tried to follow them but she was pinned to the wall. Her eyes rolled slightly when her center throbbed hotly, and she pushed him away.

"Fuck this."

But he laughed when her shaking fingers fly over his belt buckle, trying to undo it. Surprisingly, she got it undone and rubbed a hand over him through his boxers, making him stiffening and huff a breath.

"Sango…"

"Don't make me have to rape you, because I will." Sango threatened and shimmied her jeans down, flinging them over her sneakers and jumping unto Miroku, trapping his lips wildly. The threat was not needed though; Miroku just wrapped an arm around her to support her and planted the other on the wall behind them. He tried to remain focused on her, but her hands were just too tempting to ignore.

"Sango, are you-"

"What did I say?"

"But-"

Sango silenced him with a finger and panted. But her other hand went down and pulled him from his jeans. "Don't make me do good on my threat, you know what happened last time."

Miroku shivered. Oh yeah, he remembered, and damn! He nodded stupidly and gulped. She smiled wickedly, and detached herself to slide off her panties. Drowning in the heat of it, Miroku hitched her up against the wall and she let out a cry as he plunged deep into her. She tightly locked her ankles behind his back and fisted his hair as he started pumping, their breath mixing in pants. Sango whimpered and moaned as he grunted. The concrete wall bit into her back but she didn't care, the only thing that mattered was the full feeling she got with him inside her. The pressure built and the air felt steamy, their body heat combining. She climaxed first, grasping his head against her chest as she cried in ecstasy, and he came right after, stiffening against her melting form. But he supported them with wobbly knees, just until she got her bearings back. She opened her heavy eyes slowly, and her lips tugged up as she rested her nose in his hair.

He brought his head up to look at her, and she smiled as he shook his head clear.

"My god Sango, what are you doing to me? I can't take it sometimes."

She laughed weakly, gripping his shoulders and he pulled from her. "I don't know, but I do know you're doing it to me."

"Come on, I think we were suppose to get something." He lowered Sango slowly as to not scratch her back to much, and pulled her clothes for her. She took her jeans, and searched the pockets, bringing out a handkerchief.

"Here, clean up." He nodded and did so and she put her clothes back on. She finished as he was re-buckling his belt, and she smiled when he balled the handkerchief and threw it somewhere. He grabbed her waist and leaned his forehead against hers.

"I didn't know you were so kinky Sango." He laughed when she shoved him.

"Shut up. You should have realized the first day after the shower."

"Oh yeah, true. Come on, I think Kagome's about ready to pounce us if we don't bring her something to eat."

But fate is sometimes cruel. As they reentered the halls outside the main stadium, Sango pulling her hair free to fix it, Miroku pulling his jeans up, and they held hands down the hall, someone they never thought would, saw them. Someone who had been grudging since they ever found out Miroku had found some one else. Her eyes went wide when she realized that they were smiling stupidly and fixing some disordered clothes. And she knew they had been together. She gritted her teeth and turned the other way. She couldn't take it anymore! He broke her heart, it was about time he had a taste of his own medicine.

Sango and Miroku came back with some soft pretzels and cookies, mostly for Kagome, and a few drinks. Kagome rounded on Sango the minute she was in sight.

"And where the hell have you been? I was about ready to go after you."

Sango grinned, "Sorry, the crowds were huge and we were…busy just trying to get through them."

Miroku quickly nodded in agreement, a bit too quickly for Kagome. She narrowed her eyes. She kept them narrowed as Sango handed her a pretzel and scrutinized her friend. Lets see, goofy grin, bright eyes, uh…dirt on her shirt, and what was that? A quick glance to Miroku while slowly taking a bite of her cookie? Then it hit her, and she lowered her head to her hand. She sighed.

"Sango?"

"Hm?"

"Get the food before you do that. You might have contaminated it." Sango tried to hide her blush but couldn't hide the giggles.

"Ladies and gentlemen!" the PA came to life, "and welcome once again to Tokyo's Annual Kendo Tournament. We're glad to have you here, and glad to have so many contestants this year. But, like last year, we easily spotted our winners and they are yet again, in the semi-finals. From Kawata School for Boys, Juni Tsunichi. From Tacanaka High School, Suki Gennenki. And two of our favorite from Edo Ps. 138 High School, Kenshin Himura and Inuyasha Sanosuke, three time reigning champion!"

Cheers and whistles erupted from Edo high, making Inuyasha bow dramatically and Kenshin smack him upside the head, and clapping died down as the announcer tried to get the attention back.

"In just a few minutes, we'll be starting the semi-finals, then after that, the finals. The pairings are Kenshin and Juni, and Suki and Inuyasha. Good luck Inuyasha, that Suki is one tough cookie!" Suki yelled up at the announcer box in what seemed three languages, but the rest just laughed. "Okay, everybody, take a break and be back in five."

The speakers squeaked as they turned off and Kagome hurriedly made her way down, followed by Karou and friends (corny!). Just as Inuyasha and Kenshin sat down, back to the seats, Kagome giggled and tiptoed down. The stadium was too noisy for him to hear her, so she snuck up behind him, bent her knees…

And jumped him. She knocked Inuyasha almost flat on his face, making him scream when she connected with his back. Kenshin started laughing his ass off, while Karou came up and giggled.

"Gee Inuyasha, I thought you were a swordsman." Miroku commented as Inuyasha rose off the ground with a chuckling Kagome still on his back. He crouched and grabbed her arms around his neck and spun her few times making her shriek. But he stopped and let go and she stumbled a bit before he caught her around the waist.

"Did I surprise you?" Kagome giggled.

"Uh, yeah. I mean, I almost did eat floor right there."

"Aw come on Inuyasha, I thought it sweet," Sango said. Inuyasha scowled at her.

"Would the first two semi-finalists please enter the ring? That is Inuyasha Sanosuke and Suki Gennenki. Please enter the ring."

Kagome groaned, "I didn't get to talk to you!"

Inuyasha smiled and picked up his sword, and then dipped her giving her a big kiss. When she came up she was blushing like a pre-teen. "That was for good luck."

She snorted, "Like you need it with your ego."

Inuyasha gave her a glare before heading for the center ring. There was a girl in sweat pants and a tank top, her ebony hair in a ponytail and a bright shiny sword in her hand. She lifted her chin as Inuyasha hopped up and took his place opposite for her. They bowed respectively before the referee came over.

"All right, you know the rules. It's not over till one opponent has the other in a killing blow, with out killing your opponent. Any out the ring are disqualified. Ready? Good."

The ref went back to the ringside and took a whistle out. Suki and Inuyasha immediately took fighting stances, waiting for the signal.

"3…2…1!" the whistle blew.

Suki attacked first, as Inuyasha assumed. The girl wanted to prove herself, so she was be tough. He avoided a few blows, his sword still by his side. He waited; he wanted to assess her style. She stopped for a second then went at it again. She tried for his head but he ducked in time. Sometimes, it was good to be a hanyou. And that was saying something, this girl was fast. She stopped again, and went at him again. He gave a slight nod. So that's what's she did. She exhausted her opponents by making them dodge simple attacks, and when they stopped, she'll do a final blow. God, this was pathetic. He had come across three like this already. How she got this far was beyond him. Well, he'd just have to wait till she stopped again.

And right then she did. She crouched, and Inuyasha took the chance. He tripped her with a roundhouse kick, and she yelped when she hit the floor, but she couldn't get up because Inuyasha had the tip of his sword pressed on her neck. Suki looked up and saw the triumphant grin on Inuyasha's face. She sighed. No wonder he was the three time champion.

The whistle blew and Inuyasha neatly retreated his sword and offered Suki a hand up.

"You made me look like a fool."

"No, but you do need practice on your own style."

She watched open mouthed as Inuyasha calmly walked off the ring and over to a group of friends. She shook her head.

"Oh my god Inuyasha! That was so fast!" Kagome cheered.

"That girl was an amateur compared to Inuyasha. Let me ask, how did she make it to the semi-finals?" Kenshin joked, and Karou hit for his rudeness.

"Be quiet Kenshin, you're up next."

Kenshin nodded, pecked Karou's cheek, and jogged over to the ring. This time, a boy waited. He wore one of those karate suits, with a white belt. The sword in his hand was old, but taken care of really well. The boys bowed, and the ref briefed them before he blew the whistle.

And this too went by fast. As soon as the whistle stopped, Kenshin seemed to disappear. The boy looked around in wonder, looking for his opponent. Karou looked around with the others, but no one saw him. However, Inuyasha's eye flicked back and forth the whole time on the ring. And he smiled. He saw Kenshin, perfectly clear. But the whole stadium gasped when Kenshin suddenly reappeared. To the right of the boy, his sword hand back, and the `blade' of his sword awfully close to the boy's windpipe. No one noticed the smirk. The boy instantly dropped his sword and held up his hands for surrender. As the panicked boy stumbled off the ring, Inuyasha took his place.

"Well, ladies and gentlemen, that has go to be the fastest semi-finals I've ever seen." The announcer said. "But I can see it now. We've been here before. Heck, we've been here the last three years. The last two we have are Inuyasha Sanosuke and Kenshin Himura. And this year people, I have a feeling things are gonna be different."

Never taking their eyes off each other, Inuyasha and Kenshin bowed to each other. The ref briefed needlessly and went out to blow the whistle. Kagome and Karou held their breath. The stadium instantly went quiet. The ref brought the whistle to his lips.

"You're going down Inuyasha."

Inuyasha smirked, "in your dreams."

The shrill whistle echoed through the whole stadium.

Neither moved for the briefest second before disappearing all together. But let's see what the audience couldn't see with the naked eye.

Kenshin went first, as was appropriate for the challenger, and Inuyasha blocked just as his sword was coming down. He threw Kenshin, and swung a few times. As metal clashed, so did the two fighters. They kept sending glares and grins at each other, each getting the upper hand at times. Sparks flew, metal banged, grunts were heard. Kenshin managed to trip Inuyasha, and was about to win, when Inuyasha brought him down with him and flipped back. Kenshin got up, and the two circled each other. Inuyasha eyed Kenshin panting, his eyes bright with excitement.

"Wow Himura, how did you get so good?"

Kenshin grinned, "Practice my dear Watson, practice."

Inuyasha laughed, but when he looked back at Kenshin, he tensed. The Battousai look was back, and it actually sent a cold shiver down his spine. Kenshin meant business. Faster than before, Kenshin rounded him and tripped him from behind. Inuyasha flipped from him and took a stance. But Kenshin was right there, and Inuyasha strained as his sword clashed with his. He gritted his teeth, eyes flashing. Kenshin just wasn't playing anymore. He meant it, every attack. Kenshin was mad as hell, and out for Inuyasha. And something stirred in Inuyasha, something like never before. Something that had him considering giving up. Oh no it wasn't fear of losing, but the exact opposite. The thing wanted him to win, badly. But the feeling it gave him…

Kenshin shoved him back, almost to the edge of the ring, and came up for another attack. But when Inuyasha's eyes snapped to his, something clenched his gut. He didn't know how, nor did he want to, but he could have sworn he saw red swirl in the golden depths of Inuyasha's eyes. But he brought his sword down anyways, and ended the match in a surprising way.

"Holy cow people! I can't believe this! It's a draw!"

That's right, just as Kenshin sword came to Inuyasha's throat, Inuyasha brought his up and over unto the back of Kenshin's neck in a beheading style. And they stood frozen there. But soon, Inuyasha's hand started to shake. Kenshin felt the tremor and looked at him worried. Inuyasha was taking deep breaths, his eyes narrowed.

"Kenshin…take it…just take it." Inuyasha pleaded, and his eyes flicked to Kenshin's, making him gasp. He nodded slowly, not wanting to enforce Inuyasha's wrath. So he quickly flipped him on his back, and put the tip to his throat.

"And Kenshin Himura takes the win! Himura is now our new champion!"

As the Edo team came to take Kenshin to the winner's circle, Kenshin never broke eye contact with Inuyasha. He gulped. He didn't like that look, not one bit. And he knew it scared Inuyasha too. As Karou fluttered over him saying how proud she was that he won, Kenshin kind of felt cheated of his win. He had wanted to beat Inuyasha far and square, not have Inuyasha plead with him to take the win. Something was wrong. But Kenshin never got the chance to ask his friend as he was dragged over to the winner's circle, leaving Inuyasha still crouched by the edge of the ring.

Kagome was the only one who stayed, and she worried when Inuyasha didn't get up. She hurriedly went to his side and put a hand on his shoulder. To find it tense and trembling, rising with each deep breath he took.

"Inuyasha?" she whispered, crouching next to him, "Inuyasha what's wrong? Come on talk to me."

But he whirled away from her, and headed to his bag. Her chest fluttered in concern and she followed him. When she came upon him, he was staring down at his shaking hands intently. Something had upset him, and she doubted it was because he lost. Wrapping her arms around his waist, leaning her head on his back, she sighed when he relaxed against her, taking in her scent. It was laced with worry.

"Inuyasha, say something, you're scaring me." He turned in her hold and clasped her tight to him, eyes glazed fearfully. She only held back, trying to give warmth to his cooled flesh.

"Kagome…" he whispered and she nodded to him, "Kagome, I was scared. I was actually scared."

She pulled away, and looked into frightened narrowed slited eyes, "of what? what's wrong?"

He pulled away and stared at his hands again. "There…was something in me. Something I didn't like. It was like I wanted to just get rid of my sword and fight Kenshin that way. Like I wanted to hurt him. And it didn't feel right, it was strange. That's why I forfeited the match, because I knew if it went any further, something would happen. And I don't want it to Kagome, I really don't."

The whole time Inuyasha told her this, Kagome brought her hands to cover her quivering lips. What was he saying? What was he trying to tell her? Something inside him? Was he okay? No he wasn't, you could tell just by looking at him. He was scared. Of something he couldn't put a name to. Quickly grabbing his hands, Kagome licked her lips nervously.

"Listen Inuyasha, I don't know what this means, but I just want you to know, I'm here for you, always. Just please, don't be scared. Cause when you're scared I'm scared."

He sighed and squeezed her hands. "I know Kagome, I know."

He looked up and saw Kenshin heading his way, arms held up in the `what the fuck happened?' position. And Inuyasha really didn't want to think about it again.

"Hey Kagome? Didn't you say your family was gone for the weekend visiting some aunt or something?"

She nodded, curious. But then she saw his grin.

"Well, I was thinking…how bout we cheer this loser up?"

She licked her lips before grinning. Now this was the Inuyasha she knew. "Sure, we'll make a party of it."
