“Must Love Cats”
They had allowed the children to move farther away from camp than usual so that their boisterous playing wouldn't disrupt the serious discussion taking place. They had only been given two conditions: one, take Jakken with them, and two, stay within ear shot of the demons in camp. Shippo and Rin hadn't hesitated in accepting, dragging their complaining babysitter quickly off into the woods.
Kagome was grateful when things finally broke up. Her legs felt stiff from sitting and her head ached from all the tension the conversation had caused. She had to get out of the camp, if only for a little while, so before she could be asked to help with dinner, Kagome excused herself under the pretence of going to get the children. It would have been a perfect excuse if `he' hadn't offered to go with her, but Rin was his ward so she reluctantly agreed to the company.
It wasn't long before they came to the small clearing the children had decided on using from their playroom. To one end of the clearing sat a very unhappy Jakken inside a square marked out with twigs and stones. Just outside the box stood Rin with her hair down and a fringe of long grass tied around her waist like a skirt. She was humming contentedly and sweeping the dirt with a leafy branch. Her face broke into a brilliant smile when she saw who had come to get them. As Kagome followed Sesshomaru into the clearing, Shippo burst through the bushes beside her. Rin giggled as Kagome took a startled step back, before giving him a playful scowl. Shippo had also let his hair down and had removed his fur vest to drape over one shoulder.
“What have you two been playing?” Kagome asked, ignoring the grumbling youkia in the box.
“House.” Shippo answered.
“Yah.” Rin agreed, her smile widening, “Rin was being Kagome and Shippo was pretending to be Sesshomaru-sama.”
Sesshomaru turned to glance at the kitsune. “Indeed. And what of you, Jakken?”
Rin piped up before he could answer. “Jakken is being Rin's pet kitty-cat.”
“Hnn,” Sesshomaru began, motioning his retainer to his side, “I would never allow such a thing in my house.”
Kagome looked at the stoic demon lord and smirked. “I guess Miroku was right, the Great Lord of the West really doesn't like pussies.”
