Information: Souta, in this story, is Kagome’s older brother, and she is the youngest of the family. Their father is still alive, and Kaede is their grandmother. They live on a farm and are moving to Tokyo so they can help with the upkeep of the shrine.
“Yes, really,” her eyes started gleaming with a glint that he had never seen before, and Souta realized that she had changed drastically from the innocent girl he once adored.
“Kagome Higurashi!” Kagome gasped as she turned and came face to face with what seemed to be her father in an ancient slaying costume.
Souta stood up behind his sister, his dark blue eyes taking in the movements of his sibling, her shaking arms touching the trunk of a nearby tree. Her feet squished eerily as the mud cushioned her weight. He had never seen her so frightened, even the times he had watched over her and she had gotten herself lost in the timbers.
Kagome knew her freedom was in jeopardy, and though her tongue wanted to form a line that would save her, she could not find one. Looking around wildly, her mouth sticky, a few choice curses worked their way into her mind. She had never been caught before, she had kept it her secret and had hid it well, but all that was shattered, and the teenage girl knew by her elder’s gaze that her world was over.
Taking a few calming breaths, her knees still knocking, the raven haired beauty strolled cautiously over to her father, smiling sweetly as she went. Lies of many formed in her head, twisting and turning there, but each one falling short to what could save her. Kagome touched the man’s arm, biting her lip as she watched him jerk away from her with a fierce ire.
Before she knew what was happening, she had been thrown to the ground, her father sitting upon her stomach, a gleaming silver dagger at her throat. Brown eyes widened as she felt a faint trickle of blood flow down her throat, staining her white alabaster skin. Kagome’s breath hitched as another figure came into view, struggling along, and much more squat than any of the others.
He was a shadow, a dark figure except for a few pieces of green that looked the same as her father’s. His labored breathing was apparent, he stumbled slightly before the light could illuminate his appearance, grasping the wire fence for support with an aged hand. The leathery skin was recognizable at once, and Kagome felt hope arise.
“Grandpa! Help me!” his elderly eyes assessed the situation, his body leaning heavily against a wooden park bench.
“Sir, she was caught out with their kind, clearly she is now tainted,” Kagome screeched in indignation, her eyebrows scrunching together as the man before her spoke as if she was not relation.
“Very well, we shall show sympathy for you my dear, kill her quick Takakazu, do not make her suffer,” his hands rose to say a prayer, his gray hair loose from the tie at the nape of his neck.
Fear worked its way up her body as she felt the cold silver cut deeper into her throat, pain washing through each nerve that was struck. The quickness of her death was not being granted, the one she had loved as a father torturing her for some unknown reason. Turning slightly, though the one above her didn’t notice, she caught sight of her brother, who had seemingly lunged forward only to be stuck in midair. His midnight blue eyes sizzling with malice as he felt his body elevate unnaturally off the ground.
Mr. Higurashi soon took the knife away, and Kagome breathed a sigh of relief, perhaps he had thought twice on this idiocy. But that thought was soon stolen from her as she realized he had taken a wooden stake from one of his many pouches that were strung along his makeshift belt. The end was carved, nothing professionally done, but sharpened into a point that was sure to draw blood easily.
Her body struggled to free itself as the horror of what was happening finally became realized to her unbelieving mind. Instinct stirred as she kicked out with her legs, screaming now at the top of her lungs, praying that someone would aid her. Kagome knew the next thing out of his pouches before it was retrieved, a small wooden hammer with a steel end. It would destroy her instantly, had she have known that the punishment would have been this severe, she would have never stepped foot into the shadows of the dark.
Movement out of the corner of her eyes caught her attention as something large slinked its way through the night. The large mass had four powerful legs, two long tails swishing about as it silently touched the air. Something flickered briefly around its feet, looking as if flames as it stepped stealthily around. And the large head was cuffed off at the neck by what could be told to be thick fur.
Before Kagome knew what was happening, a blur shot out, tackling her father to the ground, a deep growl coming from the beast. Seeing her chance, the teen quickly stood upon her feet, her hands shaking as she rushed to her brother’s aid, his eyes still burning with a fierceness that she hadn’t seen in him when he had been with the family.
Her arms strained as the muscles pulled against the man’s shoulders, though he would not budge, the air’s rock solid hold refusing to free him. Kagome scowled, her delicate features scrunching together as she ignored her father’s terrified breathing, he wasn’t hurt she knew that much, or he would have been yelling.
Turning her head to the right in surprise, a figure of a pink haired angel appeared, her graceful and poised stature standing out above all others. Her long flowing white dress hardly fit with the rags of the other citizens, and when her blue hazy eyes made contact with them, an inaudible gasp left her lips. Kagome watched her closely, but as sudden as she had appeared, she had disappeared in a cloud of fog, her body dissolving instantly.
The younger of the siblings looked at the elder, and a curious question worked its way into her mind, for the look upon Souta’s face had clearly spoken volumes. He as well had spotted the oracle like being, and had instantly doubled his struggle, fear evident in his orbs as he desperately tried to draw any straying attention to him.
Heaving once more, and coming down empty handed, Kagome stared fixedly at her still, what seemed to be, praying ancestor. Something seemed to snap in her mind, and she instantly knew the source that needed to be broken. Her frail grandfather, weak in body, was powerful in spirit, and was easily keeping the lad by her side under his spell. A wicked spell that needed the chant of his words to hold its victim.
Begging from whomever reigned supreme above for salvation for her next deed, Kagome walked to the elder man, knocking him off balance, thus succeeding in stopping the flow of words. She turned instantly, seeing as her brother had fell to the ground, his breathing labored, but otherwise, in perfect health.
Kagome could not understand why her family was doing such ridiculous things, but knew it needed to be stopped. Taking a tentative step forward, assessing that her grandfather was indeed well, only unconscious, a sigh of relief washed its way through her.
The gratitude of this could not last, for more of these strange people dressed as slayers ascended to Earth, their forms snake like in action. Their long crafty legs moved them quickly across the ground, faster than any track runner she had ever witnessed. Kagome once again felt fear as she was pulled forcefully into the body of a man, his hard chest bruising her back. And once more, a sharp edge was held at her throat warningly, digging deeply into the still fresh wound.
Many of the figures had jumped upon Souta, and Kagome felt her hope die away as even more fell from the branches of the park. They swarmed the ground, tackling the large animal off their fallen comrade, cutting her deeply from her shoulder blade to her hip. Her yelp of pain made the raven headed teen wince, her sympathy flying to the suffering animal who had saved her from an untimely doom, though whether it mattered was something else altogether.
Twisting anxiously in the man’s hold, she felt his arm tighten around her stomach, and the blade digger further in. Soon, too soon, Kagome feared he would hit her vein, and she would no longer exist in the world. All pain had been numbed away by the fear of her surroundings, by the scurrying of each clad figure.
As things turned even more desperate, a woman no older than she, with pink armor, and dark hair pulled into a high design stopped running about. Her brown eyes watched the scene, and a smirk worked its way up her graceful features, her hands readying to grab her large weapon that fell upon her back.
With a skill Kagome never knew existed, she jumped far into the air, and with a mighty cry, let the giant boomerang rage through the air. Surprised yelps followed the attack, many being cut in half or beheaded by the swift weapon. The air sang as it cut through the atmosphere, destroying all who got in its way.
Another, with the same attire, who had not been destroyed, turned suddenly, his violet eyes dancing with glee. He had dark hair, pulled back at the nape of his neck, securing it from faltering his moves. His violet armor matched his heated gaze, making the beauty of the god like male stand out even more than normally.
A great wind swished from what seemed to be from behind, and Kagome watched as the air seemed to rush towards that man, a spiraling vortex of sorts. Planting her feet, Kagome felt her legs giving out, and the ground giving out beneath her. The man that held her dropped her immediately, throwing a strange circular object towards the man with the strange power.
Immediately the other saw this coming for him, and shut off the strange pull that resided in his palm. Squinting in confusion, Kagome ran immediately, putting as much distance as she possibly could between her and the man that wanted her death. She could still feel the cold iron that slit her flesh and the cool path of blood that wouldn’t stop its flow.
More of the same appeared, and she silently wondered if others still hid in the ranks, waiting for their turn to attack as well. Seeing another hop down, his dark brown hair secured in a high ponytail, similar to the woman in pink, he landed square on the shoulders of what seemed to be a comrade. The one below him fell instantly, the brown clothed man slitting his throat with something unseen to Kagome’s vision.
As soon as one fell, ten more seemed to join the struggle, the swift movements almost unseen, but still graceful and flawless. A strange woman that wore the same suit as the others, except with red armor, glided gracefully upon the ground, her red hair alighting the night with zeal. Her energetic steps were contagious, for soon all were picking up the pace and slicing their enemies down just as fast.
Kagome stepped out from her hiding place, watching the scene with an awe, her mind desperately trying to comprehend the happenings of this night. Her father, who had long since disappeared in the mass, was truly vexing her. She had no idea why he had attacked her like that, but he had, and had wanted her blood on his hands.
Her grandfather, who had a little more kindness, had ordered her death, and Kagome felt the knot of fear grow even more. With this new outcome, she couldn’t return to her home, but she didn’t feel right leaving her other family members behind as well. She didn’t know what to do, her indecision clearly etched on her face, so much so she didn’t see the figure creeping behind her until his warm breath was at her ear.
“My sweet, what are you doing out here...so...unprotected,” Kagome felt chills run up and down her spine, but when she turned, the perpetrator had gone.
Feeling something against her leg, she instantly jumped back, only to realize a moment later that it was the feline from earlier. Her small body rubbed against her leg lovingly, but that was not what had caught Kagome’s attention, it was the blood that now lined her jeans. Blood from the cat, blood from a wound that ran from her shoulder blade to her hip.
Gasping, but not able to do anything for the creature, Kagome let her eyes be drug once more to the seen before her. Seeing her grandfather’s body missing, she instantly knew that her father had made his escape, seeing that the odds were growing weaker and weaker.
The feline’s meow alerted her first to the two figures that glistened like apparitions in the night. The same style of clothing was worn, but the gleaming white armor was unstained by any, but Kagome knew by their physiques that they were no amateurs. They possessed strong forms, muscles of plenty rippling beneath the second like skin covering.
Kagome let her eyes widen as she saw the moon beam hair that fell down their backs, one unkept, the other straight and formal. The smaller of the two, which appeared to be younger, had a dingy sword tied to his side, a rusty blade that look useless to any. But yet the elder of the two had a duo of swords, their gleaming handles and well kept appearance were appealing to any who laid they eyes upon them.
Watching them enter the battle was breathtaking, if slaughtering other humans could be that. Their forms were even more graceful than the others, more surefooted than even the most practiced samurai. Kagome had never been in awe of two people as she was of those two, they worked perfectly as a team, seemingly communicating with their actions rather than words. Each of them easily reading the other’s next move while others were left guessing.
Looking at the others fight, Kagome sat down beside the small creature, looking at the wound on her side once more. Gently touching the mangled flesh, she was pleasantly surprised to find that the animal didn’t anger at the clear pain that she had inflicted by touching her, but merely looked upon her with wide trusting eyes. Allowing this stranger do to her as she pleased, understanding that she meant no arm to her or her’s.
Sighing in regret, Kagome wondered if the tiny animal would survive this. It was deeper, deeper than she had ever expected it to be, a deep gash that threatened to dry her system of its blood. She wanted desperately to heal the small creature, but knew she didn’t have the power, nor the supplies with her to perform such an act.
Turning as a yell reached her ears, a horrible emotion worked its way up her body as the sight of her brother came upon her. Kagome could see clearly that the silver blade had struck her brother in the area of his heart, the blood oozing out from the deep stab. Her stomach tied in knots as she watched his knees give out from under him, his hands catching the fall before he met the dirt.
Rage roared through her veins as the man that was responsible for the deed chuckled darkly, his deep bell like laughter burning her. Kagome didn’t know what happened next, only that she let her anger escape from her hold, and a tangible mist shrouded her body. A deep force shoved its way from deep within her body, a power that she had never felt before.
It struck out, crackling in the cool oxygen as the soft pink orb of fog grew in mass, stretching and expanding until with a great shove, it covered the entire area. Kagome watched as it covered every creature, human, plant, and object. Washing it with the soft glow, bringing the night into the light for only a few moments before it faded away.
Kagome fell to the ground, her breathing ragged as she felt her body weaken with fatigue, she had never before felt the need for sleep this much. Before her world went dark before her eyes, she saw the damage that she had wreaked. No one that had attacked her was left, just small piles of dust that floated away in the breeze. And the surprised looks of the warriors as their enemies disappeared in the midst of a battle.
