InuYasha Fan Fiction ❯ Entering the University ❯ The Beginning ( Chapter 1 )
"Well, this is it," Kagome said as Inuyasha began sniffing the perimeter of the room. "College!" She continued by saying, "I can't believe that we're finally here!" And then more softly, "Or that you came with me." Inuyasha heard this and so that he wouldn't be seen as being too nice said that she couldn't very well go off by herself, who knows what trouble she would probably come across. "Inuyasha, this is not the feudal era, I'll be fine. No Sessomarou, no Naroku, just books." Inuyasha helped Kagome set up the room, each of them self-consciously noting that it came with only one bed.
That night, both of them being exhausted from moving and the stress of finding Kagome's books and her classes, fell into bed, then froze, at a loss at what would come next. Inuyasha mumbled something about needing a walk, and left the room. Kagome felt bad, but eventually fell asleep. Inuyasha went to the lobby and lay down on a couch for the night.
Kagome, ready to start exploring the new town, awoke early and started to search for Inuyasha. She didn't have to look far, of course, and smiled to herself when she saw him. He was flopped on a couch too short for his frame, had one leg over the back of the couch and a hand on the floor. "There has got to be a better sleeping arrangement than this, "thought Kagome. She crept over to him and gently touched his shoulder. Inuyasha's eyes flew open at once, obviously startled by being awoken. "Good morning," said Kagome. Inuyasha rubbed his eyes and tried to look angry, adding a "feh" in for good measure before he got up and stretched.
Together they went to the cafeteria for breakfast, such a simple task always being an ordeal with Inuyasha. Kagome went through the line first, selecting a few items. Then it was Inuyasha's turn. He piled his tray full of food, being insulting to the workers as he went. Kagome gave him a look before walking towards the tables. Sheepishly, Inuyasha followed. Over breakfast, they decided to explore the town before Kagome's orientation at 1 o'clock.
So Inuyasha and Kagome left the dining hall and made their way off of the campus and towards the major part of the city. Kagome looked in most every window, charmed by some of the little boutiques and specialty shops. Nothing caught Inuyasha's eye until they passed an arcade. In fact, it was by pure ingenious and a few threats that Kagome managed to keep him with her as she browsed the shopping district. Inuyasha was not thrilled with having to wear a hat to cover his ears, at having to wear uncomfortable shoes that were confining to his feet, or at all of the bothersome noises and noxious smells that surrounded him. He stayed only because he did not trust that this town would leave Kagome alone, the Kagome he made it his job to protect both in and out of the feudal era. He also did not want to be "sat" into oblivion, as Kagome had threatened, but that was just the surface reason. He walked inside of the arcade that has so attracted his attentions and observed some kids playing the games. Kagome followed him and was amused at how impressed and confused Inuyasha was at the sight of arcade games she had grown up to view as commonplace. "What is this, Kagome?" Inuyasha asked, awed by the sounds and the general fight theme of the games.
"It's an arcade; people come here to play video games. You know, games sort of like Souta plays."
"Can I try?" he asked.
Kagome searched in her purse for a moment before producing a few quarters. Inuyasha made his way over to a game, looked at the controls and the screen before looking back at Kagome in confusion for help. She came over and explained which button does what and how to play the game. Surprisingly, Inuyasha accepted her help and did well at his first try. After a few more games, he was able to put his initials on the low end of the score board. That being accomplished, Inuyasha suggested to a bored Kagome that they leave and maybe go back again soon. Kagome realized that today could be the start of a bad habit for Inuyasha.
Note: This WILL be more interesting. I promise. Thanks!
