InuYasha Fan Fiction ❯ Entering the University ❯ Resolution ( Chapter 7 )

The paramedics put an air mask on Kagome and loaded her into the ambulance. Inuyasha accompanied her. Inuyasha told them that they had been kidnapped and that they had tried to kill Kagome by hanging her. When he was asked who they were and why they had kidnapped them, Inuyasha said that he did not know. He only said that the truck belonged to the men and that they had accused him of trying to influence their gambling contacts. The paramedic gave Inuyasha an odd look as he wrote the story down.

The ambulance arrived at the closest hospital and Kagome was ushered in quickly. Inuyasha was allowed to stay by her side. A doctor came in and took a look at Kagome. He inserted a tube down her throat and taped it to her mouth. Then he connected it to a machine. Air came from the machine and went down the tube and into Kagome's lungs. Inuyasha could see Kagome's chest rising and falling and the lines on the monitor get steadier. He stayed by her all night, watching. Kagome awoke the next morning. Inuyasha was overjoyed. He kept asking how she felt and was generally buzzing around her. The doctor came back and removed the tube. He told them that Kagome would be fine and that her airway shouldn't collapse again. The doctor also told Inuyasha that he saved Kagome's life by doing mouth to mouth on her. It took Inuyasha a moment to realize that mouth to mouth was what it was called, not lip to lip.

The police came that afternoon. They questioned both Inuyasha and Kagome over the incident. Inuyasha gave his name as Inuyasha Higurashi. The police said that they would be looking into the case and might need to talk to them again sometime. Inuyasha gave them the number and address to the dorm room. He also thanked them, something very uncharacteristic of him. Kagome was puzzled over the change, but was not bothered in the slightest.

The warm air outside seemed to enliven Kagome as well as Inuyasha. The few days spent in the hospital were beneficial. They got closer to each other and realized how much their relationship meant. She pulled away from him and then took his hand, leading him to a rock. There they sat watching the sun just beginning to rise. Kagome started talking first.

"Thanks."

"Huh?"

"Thanks for saving me. For saving my life. Even after our fight that night."

"Well I wasn't going to let them kill you! Did you really think that I wouldn't?"

Kagome blushed and then asked the question that had been on her mind for some time, "Do you care about me, Inuyasha?"

Inuyasha started to shy away from the question but then remembered how he had longed to tell her how he felt earlier.

"Kagome...I uhh..."

Kagome was ready for another answer like he had given last night.

"I uhh...umm...I love you."

Inuyasha seemed as surprised as Kagome to hear those words come out of his mouth. Kagome gave him another hug and then a kiss, a quick kiss on the lips.

"So aren't you gonna say anything? What about you?" Inuyasha demanded.

"Inuyasha, I love you too. I have for quite a while"

They both blushed at this show of affection for each other. Then they sat there holding hands in silence, enjoying the peace they found in the knowledge of each other's feelings.

Inuyasha leapt from tree to tree, all the way to the dorms, with Kagome on his back. He felt satisfied with his life. Like everything was going right for once. He hoped that nothing would screw it up. Back in their room, Inuyasha and Kagome slept. They curled up next to each other, creating a safe haven for just the two of them.

They woke up late in the morning. Neither seemed in any sort of a rush to get out of bed. Kagome thought to herself: "I can't believe what has happened lately, or that I am talking about love and "mushy stuff" with Inuyasha." The reality of almost losing each other made Inuyasha and Kagome realize how much they cared and loved each other.

Things gradually went back to an almost normal state. Inuyasha found another job, one that checked out and was not suspicious. His new job was during the day, so Kagome and Inuyasha had the afternoon and evening to do as they pleased. Inuyasha and Kagome became closer; they didn't hide their feelings from each other any longer. Not that they never got into their old shouting matches...Inuyasha's rosary necklace was still put to use but they knew that when all was said and done that they would have each other. While the whole "living together" thing still freaked both of them out, they got used to it. Every break in school and most weekends, Inuyasha and Kagome would go to the feudal era and continue the search for the shikon jewel shards.

NOTE: I know that this definitely does not closely follow either Inuyasha's character or the plotline of the show. It is just a fan-fiction. Thanks to those of you who have read this.
