The ledge that they were seated on extended out of the cavern and into another. Inuyasha walked through the wide tunnel and into another cavern. From here he could see numerous tunnels. None of them had any tell-tale signs that they would lead outside. Not being conscious during the trip in, Inuyasha has no clue of what path to take. He was just thankful for his perfect night-vision so he could see what was ahead. While he contemplated which way to go, his attention was drawn to Kagome. Her breathing was sounding irregular. Like she was having a lot of trouble. Inuyasha put her down so he could face her. Kagome was gathering in air in short, shallow gasps. She was obviously scared and clung to Inuyasha, wanting and needing him to help her. He looked closely at her neck and saw that the deep imprints of the rope were still there. The rope had probably damaged her esophagus. Inuyasha was white-hot with anger at the thought of this ordeal being far from over. "Kagome could still die!" he thought. Luckily, there was a weak breeze coming from one of the tunnels. He could not have sensed this while walking. Inuyasha picked up Kagome and headed that way. The air current became stronger and stronger as they went along. "We're almost there, Kagome," Inuyasha reassured her. He wondered if what he was saying was true. Her breaths had not improved. In fact, she was barely getting any air at all. Inuyasha saw a light at the end. "We're gonna make it..." At that moment, Kagome stopped breathing all together. Inuyasha walked a few paces further, jostling her on his shoulder. When that had no effect, he put her down to get a better picture. He shook her and screamed her name, stopping the screaming when he realized he might be giving away their location. None of these things he did had any affect. Then Inuyasha remembered something he had seen on a TV show. Someone had stopped breathing there too, and they had done something called lip to lip. He decided that it was worth a try. Anything would be better than just watching her die. After going through such trauma Kagome was quickly becoming less lifelike by the second. Inuyasha took Kagome's head and held it straight. Then he put his mouth over her partially opened mouth and breathed out. He sat back up to see if that did anything. On the show, he remembered, they did lip to lip for a while. After a few more breaths, he pulled away again to see if she was breathing on her own. No change. Inuyasha reasoned that they couldn't very well stay here all day and he picked her up and started walking again. Every few steps, he would pause and give Kagome a breath or two. He hoped that he was doing it at least part way right. The light didn't seem to be getting any bigger and Kagome needed help. More help than he could give.

At last Inuyasha carried Kagome out into the sunlight. Only to discover that they were in what appeared to be the middle of no where. He walked around the area, stopping to give Kagome air. What he found was not a town or even a person. Inuyasha did find the men's trucks. Not that he knew how to drive one, but how hard could it be? Right?

He looked for the keys and was relieved to see that they were in the ignition. Inuyasha started the car by twisting the keys, as he had seen every other driver do. Then he sat there, not sure of what came next. He attended Kagome for a minute and then started messing with any and every part of the car that moved. Through this process, he shifted into drive, as well as turning on the wipers, the hazard lights, and the headlights. Feeling the car move forward, Inuyasha pressed on one of the peddles on the floor. This much he knew how to do. One of the peddles made the truck go, the other made it stop. Inuyasha distinguished one peddle from the other and started with a jerk.

The going was very slow. There was a road, but it was obviously not used very often. He also had to stop frequently to help Kagome. They slowly drove like this for close to an hour. Inuyasha knew that he could not hold on like this for much longer. Kagome seemed to be getting worse and he was getting tired from the lip to lip. Luckily, he spotted a small building up ahead. He drove as fast as he could without losing control of the truck and skidded to a stop outside the building. The owner came outside to see what all of the commotion was. A frantic Inuyasha told her that Kagome needed help and that she wasn't breathing. The woman led them inside and called an ambulance. Inuyasha continued his lip to lip until the ambulance got there.
