Disclaimer: I don't own Inuyasha…punks.

A/N: Aw. You guys are so sweet. The threats you gave are really heartwarming! -_-* I know it seems rough and evil now, but this is a romance fic ya know! And there will be some romance between Inuyasha and Kagome, but they must first build up a friendship and then Kikyou needs to get shoved outta the way first. But there also has to be angst and stuff.

Peoples want me to rush and get to the romance, but if I do that at the FIFTH chapter, it will look corny and rushed with no type of plot or planning.

Chapter Four:

Hook, Line, and Sinker

~*~

Kagome groaned as she scrubbed the bow with a cloth. Kikyou sat at the base of a weeping willow tree, wind brushing her pale face. Her long hair swayed in the light breeze, rippling like a sheet of glistening black silk.

Kagome envied her. Kikyou was perfect. Kagome could not find a single thing wrong with the miko. Kikyou had pale creamy skin, pretty gray eyes, perfect hair, nice lips, a slender figure, and ideal curves that you could see even through her loose, baggy clothing. Kagome rubbed her dirty, grubby face distractedly in an attempt to wipe off the stubborn streaks of black grime.

Inuyasha was right. Kagome was ugly.

And I always will be, she thought. Kagome shot another look at Kikyou, who gazed steadily back at her. A nasty, conceited smile seemed to grace Kikyou's lips. Kagome switched her gaze to the long wooden bow in her hands as she continued to scrub it with the dirty rag.

"I want it to sparkle," Kagome muttered under her breath, imitating Kikyou down to a tee. "And don't mess it up."

It was a long, boring job. Kagome heard the grass rustling as Inuyasha walked up the hill to them, a large stag slung over one shoulder as he grinned arrogantly.

Man, he's strong!

Kikyou stood up slowly and strode over to Inuyasha, kissing him on the cheek, after shooting Kagome a glare.

"I know he's yours," Kagome sighed. "And I don't want him anyway."

She hated Inuyasha was a burning passion. He was mean, rude, egotistical, and stupid. Kikyou on the other hand was…cold. That was the only word for her. Everything she did was rigid, planned, clean, concise, and impeccable.

Kagome shot a quick glance at the conversing couple. Inuyasha dropped the large male deer on the ground.

"Come over here and help me clean it. Kikyou's hungry," he yelled. Kagome sighed, detangling her crossed limbs as she stood up. No more stay's! she thought. Inuyasha grinned at her eagerness to comply. And she hated him for it.

There was no reason to be so mean to her! She had done nothing to him and he hated her from the start! Now he was making it his mission to make her life hell and ruin it in anyway possible.

"And I'm just letting him," Kagome grumbled softly as she picked her way up the hill. "But what can I do about it? He has me wrapped around his middle finger with this freaking necklace!" She plucked absently at the pearls slung around her neck. How she despised these. Inuyasha had only used the stay command once and she was not eager to test his limits of control.

Kagome wrinkled her nose as the stench of the furry beast. It looked as if it once had tawny, golden fur, but it was now stained with crimson blood. It's large, liquid eyes stared unblinkingly up at her. Kagome shuddered.

"I want my meal by sunset," Kikyou told him, looking up at the sky, which was already darkening with vivid oranges, reds, and pinks. Inuyasha nodded.

"Okay," he gushed. Then he quickly turned to Kagome. "Let's get to work. We have a lot to do." Kagome swallowed and felt a pang of pity for great animal that Inuyasha had slain. Kikyou handed him a large knife.

"Where'd you get this?" Inuyasha asked suspiciously. He thoroughly inspected the blade as he held it up to the light. The shiny silver metal caught and reflected the sun's golden rays.

"You are the slave. I am your Mistress. Do not question me," Kikyou snapped. Inuyasha nodded again.

"Sorry."

"Slave. You will take the cut up meat to my hut in the village over yonder. You will know which home is mine." She pointed to the cluttered little huts in the distance. "I will prepare it, because you obviously don't know how to, being a low class slave and all. Then I want you to bring the leftovers to Inuyasha. If you do this correctly, without error, you will get a special treat, understand?" Kagome sighed and nodded. She always had to work hard to curb her insults, unless she wanted to get 'stayed' in the ground. Kikyou always ridiculed her but there was nothing she could do about it whatsoever.

Though she did wonder about Kikyou's special treat as she called it.

"Good." Kikyou turned and walked away down the hill to the village.

"Don't just stay there with your mouth open like that. You'll catch flies," Inuyasha muttered. Kagome closed her mouth abruptly and glared at him, but didn't dare say anything.

Inuyasha stared at the pelt for a second, remembering the time he had offered Kikyou the coat. He frowned bitterly at the dead deer and began hacking it into pieces. Kagome's face turned green at the large amount of blood and carnage. Inuyasha noticed this and shook his head.

"You alright? I don't want you throwing up all over Kikyou's food."

"F-Fine," she stammered, then clapped her hand to her mouth.

"Don't help then," Inuyasha said softly. "I'll do it by myself. You can just bring the food to Kikyou." Kagome attempted to swallow her sickness and feigned a smile. She sat down, back turned towards Inuyasha.

"T-Thanks. That was really nice. You didn't have to do that." Unknown to her, the hanyou blushed.

"Whatever. If you threw up all over everything then I'd have to go hunting again and Kikyou would really be hungry." Suddenly he didn't seem so bad. But her good thoughts dissipated as she heard him hacking the at the deer's flesh with the small dagger.

"Will you stay me again?" she asked spontaneously. Inuyasha raised an eyebrow. The hacking stopped.

"Why?"

"Its hurts. And I don't think it's fair," Kagome muttered gently. "I am a human being, not a beast." Inuyasha felt another pang of guilt stab him in his chest.

"Only if you deserve it," he answered quickly. "And you haven't lately." Inuyasha wiped his blood stained hands on the grass and continued chopping the meat.

"Why can't you take it off?" Kagome persisted, turning to face him. Amber eyes clashed with chocolate brown ones as a small, tiny smile came to her lips. She tugged at the pearl necklace.

"I don't trust you. You'll run away," he answered firmly. Do I feel bad for her? No! That's crazy talk. She's a slave. She's my slave. I shouldn't be feeling anything for her.

Kagome pouted, her hate for him starting to swell again. Inuyasha shrugged as he removed some more juicy red meat from the thigh. They would all eat good tonight.

"Do you really love her?" Inuyasha froze, ears flattening against his skull, a deep growl rumbling from his chest.

"That's none of your business wench!" he roared. He began slamming the knife down with more vigor. Kagome swallowed and squirmed nervously.

"I just thought…"

"Leave it alone! Just shut up!" Kagome opened her mouth to protest but decided against it. No need to try his temper and risk another painful stay.

"Okay…" Inuyasha sucked in a deep breath; the usual sweet, crisp air of fall was now permeated by blood. It made him hungry.

"Done." He smiled at his work proudly. He had cut the blood red meat into bite sizes chunks. They now laid in the grass. "Here pull you dress out."

"No!" Kagome shrieked. Inuyasha blushed.

"No. Not like that. Pull the bottom up a little so it looks like a basket. That way I can dump the meat in there." Kagome bit her lip as she did what she was told. Inuyasha wiped his hands on the grass once more and picked up the scattered meat. He put the pieces in Kagome's outstretched dress.

She wrinkled her nose. Their dinner was covered with blades of grass and little grains of sand and dirt. Plus it was bloody and the disgusting smell made her head spin.

"There's a small stream close to the village," Inuyasha said quickly, pointing. "Wash the pieces in it and then bring them to Kikyou. You had better follow her instructions." Kagome nodded and began walking off.

He seemed almost…civil to me, if only for a while, when Kikyou wasn't around. Is he mean to me because of her? Does he really hate me? Does he really want to use stays on me?

Kagome thought deeply for a long while before she reached the spring. She leaned over and cleaned her dirty hand.

"Ew…This is so gross! Why do I have to deal with stinky raw meat?" Kagome swallowed and tried to settle her queasy stomach. Using a part of her dress as a glove to cover her hand, she dipped the meat into the water and swirled it around until the grass and dirt came off of it and began floating downstream.

When she was done cleaning off the meat, she began her descent towards the village.

It was nearly sunset when she made it there. The small town was actually quite nice. It was neat, clean, and very…sweet. The huts stood clumped together and were actually much larger than she expected. Kagome suddenly felt weird in such a perfect place like this. She was dirty, sweaty, and her clothes were stained with animal blood.

Kikyou was right. She did know what hut was here. Kikyou's hut was slightly larger than the rest and on her front porch were bouquets of flowers, no doubt from the bubbly village children. Against the wall of her house laid an extra bow, though it was not the one that Kikyou had her clean earlier.

Kagome hesitantly knocked on the door. It was opened instantly and she was greeted with Kikyou's rye smile.

"So you did survive," she muttered. Kagome curtsied clumsily and walked inside. It was pretty dark so she really couldn't survey Kikyou's interior design. A few candles cast a shimmering orange glow on the wall, but they barely lit anything up.

A small, trembling fire glowed in the hearth. Kikyou got out her pot and Kagome dumped the meat chunks inside.

"Sit." Kikyou pointed to a spot on the floor. Kagome lowered herself to the ground and fidgeting nervously. "What did Inuyasha say?"

"Huh?" Kagome cocked her head. What a weird question. Why would she ask something like that?

"What did Inuyasha say when I left?"

"He was actually pretty nice to me," Kagome said. "I think that maybe with some time we can become good friends." She smiled.

Kikyou turned abruptly towards her and glared.

"Stay-" Kagome cringed. Oh I forgot. Only Inuyasha can make me fall. Kikyou started again. "Stay away from him."

"Huh? Why? He's…He's my master. And as much as I don't like being a slave, I can't disobey him." Kikyou shook her head and turned back to the meat simmering in the big black pot.

"No. I don't mean stay away from him physically. Stop socializing. You have a job to do here."

"You…You don't want Inuyasha and I to become friends? But why?"

She watched with curiosity as Kikyou's knuckles turned white from clutching the spoon so hard.

Why would Kikyou want me to stay away from Inuyasha? Why doesn't she want us to become friends? It's not like he's in love with me! She blushed. I know he loves Kikyou…so why?...

"Inuyasha is mine," she stated simply. "And I will not allow a slave to come and take him away from me." Kagome's jaw dropped in surprise. I mean, I don't like Kikyou very much, and it's not like I could take him away from her; hell, I don't even like him!

"Kikyou…I would never try to take Inuyasha from you. I know you two love each other," she said. "But why can't we become friends?"

Kikyou stopped stirring the stew for a second and rummaged around for a bit and found a handful of herbs. She threw them into the pot and sighed like someone who was trying to teach a particularly slow student.

"Because I said so," she replied simply.

Kagome sighed. The air now smelt of simmering meat and fresh, spicy herbs. Her stomach rumbled in hunger.

"It's finished." Kikyou dipped a ladle in the pot and poured some stew in her bowl. She ate in silence for a while as the smell of the food made Kagome begin to salivate. "Because Inuyasha is my slave, and I have feelings for him, I couldn't bear to see him fall in love with you."

"He won't. Not with me," Kagome muttered. "But why do you love your slave? Not that it's any of my business," she added quickly. Damn curiosity! It's gonna get me killed one day.

"You're right, it is none of your business," Kikyou replied, eyes flaming. Kagome gulped as the trained miko shoved a bowl of soup in her hands and dropped some chopsticks in her lap.

"Thanks."

"Eat." Kagome didn't hesitate to begin slurping up the meal. The meat was delicious and the spices and herbs gave it a nice flavor that she couldn't get enough of.

"It was delicious."

"I know," Kikyou said. She began ladling soup into a fresh bowl and handed Kagome another pair of chopsticks. "Give this to Inuyasha. When he is finished, bring back my things. Do this correctly and I will allow you to take a bath." Kagome's eyes sparkled.

"A bath? Really?" she cried. I must look awful and smell disgusting! I can't believe Kikyou is actually being civil… she and Inuyasha are both being kind of nice to me today. It's strange.

"Yes. But do not socialize too much or else your bathing privilege will be removed." Kagome nodded and took the warm bowl of stew in her hands and curled her fingers around the chopsticks.

"Okay, I understand."

Kagome bowed and excused herself from the hut.

It was sunset. The sky was a fiery orange streaked with red and yellow. Kagome almost spilled the stew in her haste to get up to Inuyasha then go down to take a bath.

Inuyasha sat in almost the exact same spot as when she left him. He was laying, back against the weeping willow tree, staring at her, his soft silver hair billowing around his form.

"Here's your food." She made her way over to him and handed him the soup. His hands bumped hers accidentally and she felt a jolt of heat sweep her body. What's wrong with me? That's was dumb. Why did that happen? Grrr…stupid Inuyasha.

He didn't even mutter a thanks as he downed the stew in one large gulp. Kagome took the bowl and chopsticks from him and turned away.

"Where are you going?"

"Back to Kikyou. I'm going to take a bath!" She smiled dreamily.

"Where you sleeping tonight?"

"Outside probably." Kagome shrugged. "Why?"

"Just wondering. It's odd that Kikyou would let you get a bath."

"Maybe she's warming up to me. She might like me!" That was a nice thought. Any bit of friendliness from either of her masters was welcome. Maybe they could actually become friends!

"I doubt it," Inuyasha snorted. "Kikyou doesn't trust you. She doesn't 'warm up' to people she doesn't trust that fast." Kagome scowled.

"Way to burst my bubble, Inuyasha." He grunted. "Well goodnight. I'll be back later." Inuyasha rested his arms behind his head and sighed.

"Whatever. Try not to get killed by a demon, alright?" Kagome rolled her eyes.

"You sound like a mom."

She dashed away, laughing, before he could protest.

***

Kikyou held a large cloth and pointed towards the bubbling hot spring.

"Don't take too long. Wouldn't want you to melt." Kagome smirked. Is that Kikyou, the ice princess, attempting humor? Now I've seen everything!

"Okay. But it might take a while to burn off all of the dirt. I must look filthy." She smiled.

"You do. Very much so." Kagome's smile evaporated.

"Right." Kagome resisted the urge to snatch the towel from her and forced another grin on her lips.

"Okay." Kikyou walked away and vanished behind the trees.

"Bitch," Kagome muttered under her breath. She stripped down and jumped into the hot water. She moaned as the bubbling water surrounded her and warmed all of her cramped muscles.

Kikyou snickered, back pressed against the large tree that shielded her from view.

"Stupid slave. I can't believe she's actually falling for my plan! By the end of all of this, Inuyasha will never look her way again. I'll be sure to keep his heart!"
