InuYasha Fan Fiction ❯ Eugenics ❯ Chapter 2
The next day they awoke at 730, all the girls shouted a gleeful "Happy Birthday". Kagome smiled and thanked them. Before Physical Fitness, the routine cheek was preformed, from her med Tec wished her in a hushed tone another jolly "Happy Birthday", then she handed Kagome an iron supplement and a cup of water. The rest of the passed uneventful then it was lights out.
Again, the next day began like any other. However, after a perfectly balanced dinner the woman who had escorted Kagome less than a week ago returned. Standing at the end of the table, she eyed each girl then her voiced boomed out, "Kagome 10-28 and Sango 10-30," so said she turned on her hell and began to stalk off knowing the girls would follow. Arriving at the command office their attendant pushed the button to open the door, "Ms. Raisch is waiting," she announced then gestured for them to go in. The door closed silent as a whisper behind them, their only out sealed.
"Id like to wish both of you a Happy birthday, though I'm off a day in each case," she smiled easing the girls discomfort a little. "Please sit," she indicated the chairs in front of her with a sweep of her hand. Then abruptly with out revelation she stated, "You've both been paired."
"What!?" Sango blurted abandoning a lifetime a ridged discipline.
"A male has been selected for you to procreate with. To share your life with."
"Why?"
"Eugenics," she answered gravely, the simple word yet it was the way the world survived.
"Who are they?" Kagome's voice was calamitous.
"Well…" she sighed. "You are unique, special. The result of an impossible match between a Miko and Hybrid wolf/dog demon. Your demon blood is dormant sealed within the miko's blood. It was impossible to find some one exactly like you, but you have a partner who is the close one we know of never the less we aren't going to hold our breath."
"And me?" Sango demanded.
"Luckily both your parent are human descendents of the demon exterminators. You'll be with a 19 year old with almost the same linage." She stopped letting it sink in a moment before and the last crushing bit of information. "You'll both be leaving the day after tomorrow, Saturday." She watched as 10-30 tensed ready to launch an attack that never came when she saw 10-28 sitting as calmly as if instead of hearing that the life that she knew was coming to end she had just received a lengthy lecture on the merits of using the Navajo langue as code during the second World War. "You may skip your last few classes," she told them emotionlessly.
They stood woodenly at attention and snapped off a smart "Aye aye ma'ma" pivoted and marched to the door however Ms. Raisch's voice stopped them a foot from the door"You are not to tell any of the girls a word of this information. Now you may go."
Once back in their rooms they both collapsed on the bottom bunk, Sango's bed, both deep in thought for in a matter of mere minutes their lives had altered. They now knew their linage, and Kagome for one was not entirely human and the human part of her was magical. Sango she was more than a best friend but now she knew she came from those fated to hunt and kill demons. Would it alter their friendship now that they knew that Kagome was half part of something Sango's purpose to kill?
Would it even matter? They were being carted off to some male to produce offspring. They were not sure how one went about creating or producing offspring, but figured they would learn soon enough.
Before they knew it the rest of the girls were back and shooting question at them as quick as enemy fire.
"Sorry, our lips have been sealed" Sango said disgruntled.
"Yes, and we are rather tired. If you don't mind…" though Kagome's voice was polite if somewhat dispassionate they all took her statement for what it was an order and like on the field they responded the same, instantly obeying.
"Okay you guys just rest than" said a sweet voiced Rin.
"Thank you."
Sango turned to Kagome after the girls filed out. "What if I never see you again?" she asked in a hushed tone.
"Oh, don't worry were sisters in all but linage. death and battle didn't separate us forever so don't think these…" her next word tasted bitter on her tongue and sounded worst, "males could keep us apart."
"Promise?"
"Yes."
They fell into a comfortable silence then Sango mused aloud "Rin was born 17 days after me. She'll be next."
"I imagine so." Kagome concede.
