InuYasha Fan Fiction ❯ Even If You Cannot Hear My Voice ❯ Mouryoumaru's idea and Inuyasha's feelings ( Chapter 6 )
[ Y - Young Adult: Not suitable for readers under 16 ]
Author's note: Sorry, I've been spelling Kanna's name wrong! Kami! I usually write late at night and my brain doesn't function properly all the time! Oh, and I know by “this time” in the manga, it looks as though Kanna has already betrayed Naraku. But for my purposes, I had to tweak it a little. Sorry.
Kanna delicately walked up to Mouryoumaru. Her dead eyes blankly stared up at the twelve-foot high monster with complete complacency.
Mouryoumaru snapped around and shot a tentacle at the small girl. She more glided than jumped out of the way.
“Oh ho ho…Next time, I will not miss…” He stated arrogantly.
“Naraku...shinda.”
“So that means you no longer have a master, eh? Very well. You shall serve me.”
Kanna made no indication that she had either heard much less understood what Mouryoumaru had said, but as soon as he began walking away, she followed.
After a few paces, he suddenly stopped. “And what of the jewel?” he eyed Kanna suspiciously. “Where did Naraku hide it?”
“Here.” She simply stated as she held up her small silver mirror.
“Oh?...Heh. Show me.”
Light surrounded the mirror, and as some of the souls which Kanna had previously stolen were released, a dark purple, almost black and only slightly incomplete jewel emerged.
“Heh. Naraku was a fool.” And as Mouryoumaru slowly reached for the Shikon no Tama, it released a strange pulse. Mouryoumaru stopped short, once again glaring at Kanna.
“What is the meaning of this?” He asked maliciously.
“Naraku's power still remains, but once touch from you will transfer its power.” Kanna was staring straight in front of her as she said this, still acting as the lifeless doll as when she was under Naraku's control. She now held the jewel in her tiny palm, holding it up to Mouryoumaru.
“Let me touch her.” The baby inside of Mouryoumaru demanded. Mouryoumaru immediately picked up the stiff little figure and pulled her to his torso.
Little white hands emerged from his body and grabbed the girl's temples.
“This one does not know of right or wrong. She only does as she is told.” The little hands disappeared inside the body once again, and Mouryoumaru dropped the girl to her feet.
“Kanna. You will give the jewel to an Oni. Any of Naraku's traps will reveal themselves when we see the jewel's power transferred to it before we take it for ourselves.”
Then Mouryoumaru began stalking down the mountain's path once more, followed again by Kanna, looking for a suitable Oni to fulfill their sadistic needs.
Inuyasha stood menacingly behind Miroku with his arms tightly crossed as the monk spoke with the village head.
“Uh…” the villager replied nervously while stealing a quick glance at Inuyasha. “I will talk to the villagers first thing in the morning to see if they have seen the little girl of which you speak.” The sun was about to set, and all of them were ready to call it a night, except for Inuyasha, of course.
Inuyasha gave the headman the most vicious stare he could summon before spitting out, “What's wrong with asking them tonight?!”
“Inuyasha, calm down!” Kagome demanded.
“Um….it's just that…the village children might have seen her while playing, but most of them are already asleep, and…” The headman was not willing to wake up the children just to ask them about some peculiar girl for this peculiar group, but he did not want to upset them either. They looked formidable, and he knew that the one with the dog ears was no doubt a demon. Why a monk and a couple of girls, strangely dressed as one of them was, were accompanying the beast was beyond him. Nevertheless, he decided to cooperate and figured he should offer them shelter in his own home. At least there were guards there, and if they wanted to cause trouble, they would be farther from the defenseless villagers and would have to fight over fifty men first.
“Keh. Fine. Whatever.” Inuyasha testily replied. He couldn't believe they had wasted another fucking day doing absolutely nothing. No fighting, no Mouryoumaru, nothing. DAMMIT! He angrily swore to himself. We don't have time for this shit.
“Please feel free to stay at my house tonight. I'll have my servants prepare beds and food for all of you.” Please, Kami. Protect us all tonight. He was getting increasingly nervous about allowing them to stay and helping them because of the demon's threatening demeanor, but he supposed it was better than telling them to leave the village and never return. He sighed to himself and waited for a reply.
“Arigato, this is most appreciated.” The monk thanked politely.
“Please. This way.” The village head slowly walked towards the hill on the far edge of the village where a reasonably large house resided. I guess it can't be helped. He told himself as his head servant welcomed him back. She was surprised at the group following him, especially the scowling person with white hair and DOG EARS!!!! KAMI! She gasped to herself.
“These are my guests tonight. See that they are properly cared for.” And with a heavy sigh and a bow, he bid them good-night. Better ask them about that girl with the mirror as soon as I get up. The sooner I have answered their questions, the better it will be for everyone.
As they all ate their dinner of rice and a few dumplings, Shippou huffed irritably to himself.
“He sure was stingy with our food!” Shippou complained loudly.
“He was nice enough to let us stay, Shippou.” Kagome soothed softly.
“I'm sorry, Kagome. You're right. Besides, it's not the headman's fault that Inuyasha is so mean that he scares everybody around him.” He said matter-of-factly with his hands upturned.
“Why you…” Inuyasha snarled as he lunged for the small kit.
“Inuyasha!” Kagome yelled after she stood up, pointing at the affronted hanyou.
“But he deserves it! I can't help the way I look!!!” He was now in Kagome's face scowling at her for stopping his assault on the little fox demon.
“I know that!” She defended as the more bad-tempered than usual hanyou stormed outside and leaped into a nearby tree. “Inuyasha…”
“Sheesh! What a bully!” Shippou accused.
“He's only upset because he knows he's not welcome here, Shippou.” Sango delicately explained.
“Indeed.” The houshi joined in. “It has never been easy for Inuyasha, and he takes it more to heart than he lets on when people judge him before they even know him.”
“Well, he's still a big meanie.” Shippou grudgingly muttered under his breath.
Kagome quietly tip-toed outside as she looked for any sign of red in the trees. It was only a half-moon tonight so her human eyes couldn't see very far in front of her, much less several feet above her in some densely foliated tree.
“Inuyasha?” Kagome sadly called out to the bruised hanyou. “I'm sorry…”
There was a moment's silence before a stern voice asked, “For what? You didn't do anything.”
Kagome looked up and saw the half-demon looking at the moon almost directly above her sitting on one of the highest of the tree's branches. He then looked down at her, waiting for her to say something.
“Umm…” Kagome didn't expect him to look at her, and her cheeks started to color. “I…uh…just meant that I'm…I'm sorry about all that's happened to you.”
Inuyasha quickly faced the moon once more. “Keh! Like those stupid humans could do anything to hurt me!” He was appreciative that she cared about how he felt, but he wasn't going to let her know that. A soft blush donned his face as he remembered how beautiful and innocent she looked bathed in the dim moonlight. He slightly shook his head to rid himself of those thoughts. Nothing good could come from him feeling like….well, like that!
“Okay” she softly replied. She figured he wanted to be alone and outside tonight, so she headed back towards the house. At least he knew she cared, and that's all she had wanted to accomplish from following him outside, anyways. “Good-night, Inuyasha.” She whispered before going through the door.
Inuyasha's right ear swiveled in her direction as he smirked. She still doesn't know how good my hearing is, he told himself thoughtfully as he heard some screaming at the top of the mountain adjacent to the village. What the fuck was that?!
Miroku, Sango, and Kagome came tearing out of the headman's house followed closely by Kirara and a very confused Shippou.
“What's that sound?” Shippou asked nervously.
“I don't know the hell it is, but I'm going to find out!!!” Inuyasha roared before taking off towards the mountain.
“Inuyasha!!!” Kagome shouted while Sango ran back into the house to change into her demon-slayer armor.
“We'll catch up with him, Kagome-sama.” Miroku soothed as he saw the severely pained expression on the young miko's face.
“I know.” She dejectedly responded. “I just wish he would wait for us sometimes!” Why does he always want to do everything by himself?! She bitterly questioned herself.
“Okay, let's go!” Sango hollered as she jumped onto the now large fire-cat demon and held out her hand to Kagome who was holding a very frightened kitsune cub. Sango helped her onto Kirara before charging after the impatient hanyou trailed closely by a determined-looking houshi.
