Chapter 7: Dreams
I didn't realize my eyes were wide open, until I saw a pink and purple butterfly flutter by. My vision focused on a large oak tree sitting in front of me. The bark looked old but fresh, as I made out an indention with a small hole in the middle of it. I sighed, long and deep, my nostrils filling with the smell of lush green grass, dripping with morning dew. My mind was fuzzy, as I tried to remember why I was here, in this beautiful landscape. But nothing came to mind. I felt the need to just soak it in and relax. And so I did just that.
My legs stretched out in front of me, and I noticed brown slip-on shoes with long white socks. My head leaned down to capture a green short skirt and the bottom of a white school shirt. School shirt? Yes, with a red tie leading up to more green. Why was I wearing a school uniform? I glanced back up to gaze at a tiny child playing in the distance. His sweet laughter filled my ears, as he began to run towards me. Orange fuzzy hair covered the top of his head, a large smile and wide curious eyes glared at me.
He waved in my direction, and I waved back. No need to be rude. It seemed like a long time before he actually came trotting up to my sitting form. He jumped into my arms, and whispered, "Why aren't you home? I thought you'd be home for a long time."
"Home?" I asked, confused. I patted his head and glanced back up at the tree. I watched in horror as a trickle of scarlet ran down from the hole. I blinked, trying to remove the image but all it did was cause it to run down the trunk faster, and form a puddle at the base. I looked back down at the child in my arms, as he fell into a deep slumber. My mind must be playing tricks on me, I think, and glance back up. The scarlet is gone. Yes, tricks.
I notice the child's pointed ears and wonder how it was possible, then a furry tail brushing against my thighs. This wasn't any normal kid, I realize, and stand up. I begin to amble away from the tree, and into a clearing. Birds chirp and I can sense the feeling of being watched. I glance around, but it was just me and nature. I notice a rotted well. I approach it, and sit down on the edge. Another feeling grasps my heart. Deju Vu.
Red and silver flashes by in the corner of my eye, and I try to catch it, but it's gone. My heart beats loudly in my chest, as the youngster stirs in my arms. His eyes open and he speaks, "It's only Inuyasha."
"Inuyasha?" I question, trying to understand. He stares up, in vexation, "Yeah, Inuyasha. Our friend."
I nod, and glance back up. The red and silver is in front of me, golden orbs staring into mine. I almost jump out of shock, but quickly compose myself, "Who are you?"
He doesn't answer, causing my heart to skip a beat. His pink lips part, revealing small but sharp fangs. I sit still, studying him and his strange but comforting expression. Suddenly, the man grabs me, causing me to drop the child, and presses eager lips to mine. My hands grab his red clothing, but all I want to do is run, yet it feels so natural for him to kiss me. His hot tongue enters my mouth, grazing over my own. His hands grip my upper arms, pulling me closer, my breasts pressing into his chest. Suddenly, I feel searing pain where his fingers are, like something was trying to dig into my skin.
I cry out into his mouth, but he doesn't stop, continuing to deepen the kiss. He sucks on my tongue, causing my toes to curl in my shoes. I hear the child begin to scream, "You're bleeding! You're bleeding, Kagome!"
I push against his chest, and manage to break away, almost falling in the process. My lips feel bruised, and my fingers immediately go up to my lips. My arms ache and I look at one, noticing in horror crimson stains where his hands had gripped me. The child whimpers, "He hurt you, Kagome!"
I gaze at the man, "Why?"
"Because I can," is his only response, his tone husky and deep. I see his claws, tips covered in the crimson. Blood. My blood. I close my eyes, tight, wishing for the image to be gone. I open them once more and the clearing is no more. There is only blinding white light. Such bright light. Someone holds firmly onto my waist with one hand. I squirm, but they keep hold.
"Let go!" I yell, in fright, but I only get a low growl in return. Then, it all returns to me, like a slap in the face. Inuyasha was holding me, because he used the Jewel. The Jewel! I begin to pound my fists against his bare chest, and I watch when he drops the glowing orb. I reach for it but he pulls me closer. I scream the only thing that comes to mind, "SIT!"
My mind is blank with true surprise when the command actually works, with amazing results. Inuyasha drops to the carpet, which has now appeared, but he brings me down with him. My face meets rough floor with a 'thud'. I hear the voices of my friends, Miroku and Sango, as they scramble over to me, stepping over the silent youkai.
"Kagome?! Are you alright?" Sango asks, desperation in her voice, as she tries to pry me up and out of the spell. But I lay there, unmoving, with half of Inuyasha's body over me. After a long moment, I lift my head up to get a deep breath, my heart pounding in my ears. I dart my chocolate eyes towards the pink Shikon No Tama, laying on the ground, not too far away from the demon's reaching range.
"Miroku, Sango! Grab it!" I order, nodding my head in that direction. Miroku nods and picks it up, whilst the youkai began to growl deep in his throat. My eyes widen when I begin to feel sharp claws tease the surface of my lower back. I groan, trying to lift myself up but to no avail, as he looks up to glare at me with scarlet eyes.
I chuckle, nervously, "Sorry..."
"Sorry?" He barks, "sorry can't do shit right now! Goddammit, Kagome, you didn't have to fuckin' SIT ME!"
"I didn't think it would actually work..." I muttered, under my breath, as I stared at him, "besides, you were gettin' all weird and shit on me! I can't believe you were trying to use the Jewel again, Inuyasha! You're so stubborn!"
My temples throbbed, as I tried again to stand up. This time he removed his arm, and I stood up only to go and sit on the nice soft mattress. I watched Miroku give the Sacred Jewel to Kaede, who had a small smile on her face. Inuyasha seemed to notice this as well, as he glared at the prietess, "What's so funny, Kaede?"
She only shook her head, "Some things never change. As for you, Inuyasha, you need to learn a little more self-control."
He growled again, "Go to Hell!"
I sighed, long and deep, "What the fuck did you think you were doing?"
He looked at me, his eyes growing dark, "I suppose its something you'll never understand."
"Understand? You were trying to run off with the Jewel!" I yelled, pointing my index finger at him, pissed off written all over my face. 'Which also caused a really messed up dream...' I thought. A chill ran down my spine at the vision, trying to figure out what that was all about. 'And why couldn't I remember anything in it?'
"I've come this far with it, and I'm sure as hell not about to give it up!" Inuyasha spat out, breaking me out of my strange thinking. Miroku and Sango inched away towards Kaede, figuring I'd deal with the angry youkai all by myself. Yeah, I don't think so. I glared daggers at them, "Where do you think you're going?" Kaede was already out the door, motioning for them to follow her.
Miroku forced a smile, "Nowhere."
Sango gave him a nudge, "We're just gonna leave you two alone, you know-"
"...to work things out," Miroku finished for her. Inuyasha arched an eyebrow at the couple, "What? After all this time, you guys choose now to believe I'm gonna kill you?"
They both shook their heads, and darted out the door. I turned my attention to the idiot from the past, "Why?"
"Take a wild guess," he simply answered, grabbing his shirt from the bed, and standing up, "because I'm not gonna tell you."
"Where are you going?" I couldn't help but ask, disappointed when the bronze skin was covered back up with the silky shirt. He paced over to the door, and gave a glance over his shoulder, "Home."
"Home? Why?" I ask, confusion now etched into my voice.
"Why else?" The door closed, slamming behind him, and I felt warm tears begin to well up in my now tired eyes. I didn't know why I wanted to cry, but I just did. I had kind of wished he would stayed, not leave, but he was pissed, obviously, and I wasn't gonna stop him. The urge to sob into my pillow overtook me, and I crawled up to the front of my bed, grabbing the pillow that was thrown ealier. I layed there, my head laying on the fluffy pillow, and began to cry.
The static from the newly turned on TV added to the smuthering silence that filled up the hotel room. My sobs and sniffles echoed in the black silence, until I let sleep claim me.
