A/n: I have no idea where I want to go with this. But that's how my mind works, and sometimes it ends up in strange and beautiful places ^_^. (Not boasting at all.)

Disclaimer: Don't own the Inuyasha co. Sad and unfortunate as this may be.

Chapter I: Sometimes I Say Things I Don't Mean

He sighed angrily, looking deep into her eyes in an attempt to apologize when his mouth refused to open because of his God-forsaken pride… His ears lay flat against his head as he felt his own eyes search through her face.

Her sapphire eyes shone bright with unshed tears… her face ever so slightly flushed and indignant, with the most definite signs of hurt lying there. Her eyebrows drew together, staring at him in resentment, confiding unconsciously with him her own feelings of exposure.

He held her tiny wrist with his large, talon-ridden hand in an attempt to restrain her. Her hand was up and slightly backward, as if in a position that spoke volumes of being ready to smack the hanyou square across the face at any given chance.

Both stared at each other… and while Kagome was spitting flames, Inuyahsa was telling of bitter remorse and regret.

Once again that big fat mouth of his had opened. Once again he had said things he not only didn't mean, but things he knew in his heart were not true. Things that were far from the truth. But those things were said in an attempt to keep her at arm's length. And to this day, nearly three… four? …Four… Four long years later, he did not and still remembered all too well why he did it.

Kikyou.

He growled slightly at the thought, one of his ears twitching. Kagome fought back a bit to remove herself from his restraint after his noise, but he held her in place. He realized Kagome probably thought he growled at her, but though he did not, he didn't bother to correct her. He remained silent, the fear of him saying something else that would agitate her clawing at the back of his mind and willed him to be thus. He was afraid that once again she'd jump back in that well and not return for, yet again, another long and lengthy bit of time.

“OSUWARI!”

He felt his insides panic as he felt that same pulling force around his neck that face-planted him to the ground, making him kiss the earth. He groaned out loud in pain, having his penis unpleasantly crushed against a sharp rock. I guess this is what I deserve… He thought to himself sourly.

Daring to peek one eye open, he saw through his blurred vision a flash of green skirt flying about, and raven tresses flowing in her wake. Her yellow backpack flung carelessly over her shoulder, and a bit of shining wetness fall from her face in her path.

Tears…

He growled again, clawing at the dirt in resentment of his own stupidity…

“How could I be such a fucking baka…!”

He had said she was worthless…

He had said she was just a jewel detector…

He had said she was weak…

And once again, his lies came crashing down upon his head with the utmost disgrace.

(A/n: A bit of a filler chapter… Patience is indeed a virtue! This sets the theme of it all. I hope I know where this is going :s. Teehee.)
