A/n: I thought I'd give you a bit more to go on, since the last chapter was pretty vague and short. And who ever likes vague and short? I know, for one, I don't. So let's get to it, shall we ^_^?

Disclaimer: Inuyasha's hot and sexy body shall never be mine to own. :: sniffle ::

Chapter II: What Would I Ever Do Without You?

Inuyasha shook his foot in clear aggravation as he was on his third day in the Goshinboku. Three days without food, without water, without sleep, and…

…and… without Kagome.

He had taken residence there since their fight, and was a half a wit away from storming down that well and dragging her out himself. But with careful coaxing that had taken years of perfecting, Sango and Miroku had convinced him that this was, indeed, probably about the stupidest fucking thing he could do considering the state in which he left her. So he stormed off in a rage and took refuge there, in the Goshinboku.

But he knew below him Shippo had been watching him for a while now, looking at him smugly and was, no doubt, also blaming him for his surrogate mother's prolonged absence. (He was completely right, of course, but Inuyasha wasn't about to admit that to the nitwit kitsune.) “Hey you stupid baka!” he called up suddenly, and bravely. Apparently he had had enough of his own musing and was ready to lash out at Inuyasha now. “If you hadn't been such an asshole maybe Kagome would be here and we could be searching for Naraku!” Of course, that wasn't why Shippo wanted her here, but he knew that was the best was to push Inuyasha's buttons. Inuyasha felt himself instantly bristle, his hair standing up on end. His ears perked up immediately as he shot a death glare down to the small boy.

“What did you say, you fucking brat?!” He stood up in mock threat, and apparently that was all it took. Getting the desired effect, Shippo let out a squeak and immediately zipped off to find comfort in the safety of Sango and Miroku's protection. (Since Kagome was not there, of course.) He settled himself back down on his branch with a weary sigh and mumbled Kagome's name breathlessly. How was he going to make it up this time? All he ever did was hurt her… And all she ever did was keep crawling back to him, forgiving him, yet knowing he was just going to do it again. She had even stopped arguing back recently, he suddenly noticed… He flicked his ears it thought, trying to brush away the pesky insects that were bugging his sensitive appendages…

Anymore… all she did was just sigh resignedly and take it all. Yesterday... he guessed she had just about enough of it…

It had been almost two weeks since she had snapped back… And all she was anymore was tired…

What's wrong with her? He suddenly grew worried… What if she was sick? What if it was something that was bothering her?

What if he just agitated her concerns further?

“Damnit!!” He kicked the Goshinboku which rang with a dull thud as he rubbed his eyes. He once again felt his irritation growing when he realized she was once again not talking to him and telling him her problems.

But how could he blame her? All he did was call her weak. So… if she had problems, that probably made her feel weak… As normal as it was to have troubles…

That's part of being… well, human! God damnit…

He gave the tree another solid kick, feeling the branches above him rustle.

And if she felt weak about it, she was surely not going to tell Inuyasha because he definitely would assure her that she was, in fact, weak.

…When Kagome was anything but weak.

Inuyasha sighed exasperatedly and felt himself slide down the tree in exhaustion. It had always been like this… That's why he was always saying `again' to himself, he realized… but the things that irritated him by far the worse, that was despite that this was the cycle that had always been… the uncomplicated matter of being `just the way it was' had grown for him to `wanting something different'… Whatever that different was…

Whether it was her just being more open with him, for fucking crying out loud!

“And me fucking shutting my goddamn mouth when I don't know how to keep it fucking shut because I'm such a goddamn fucking moron with no honor! ARGH!”

He proceeded to whirl around and punch the tree. Over and over again. That helped brush some of the tension off!

“….GOD. DAMN. YOU. YOU. FUCKING. WORTHLESS. TREE!”

The source of their very meeting… the very place he met Kag-

“Inuyasha, what are you doing?”

The soft voice caught him off guard as he spun himself around so quickly he just nearly lost his balance. Falling off the tree from this height would NOT be comfortable, despite being a hanyou.

“K-kagome?”

She stared at him like he was the most ridiculous thing on the planet at this very moment. “Yeah, who else do you think it would be? Baka no desu! What are you doing do the Goshinboku?”

He looked down at his reddened knuckles awkwardly and then placed his fist behind his back and scratched his ear nervously, trying to think up an excuse…

“P-practicing… um… my punching…”

She stared at him as if seeing right through him, but instead she just gave that tired sigh once again, the same one she had been using, and just gestured for him. “Let's go, Inuyasha…”

He jumped off the tree and stared at her, sticking his face in hers. “Wait a second, wench, I'm not done here!”

She stared at him incredulously, her eyes shining bright yet again… he was close enough to notice those dark circles under her eyes and smell the old traces of her tears…

“Done with what exactly, Inuyasha?” She looked at him firmly, impatiently. Something completely out of character for her…

She was right. What aren't I done with?

“Talking to you!” He bit out suddenly.

“About what?” She returned, continuing to look at him with annoyance… and with something else that looked like... resignation…

His ears flattened against his hair suddenly, and he began to feel ashamed of himself. He knew he was the one who put that look on her face… those old tear stains on her cheeks… He knew his own face still held false antagonism… but he dropped the act for once and shrugged his shoulder, drawing back slightly and turning around to look away from her. “Nothing… nevermind…” He spoke softly and began walking, and he saw out of the corner of his eye that she had dropped her eyes to the floor to stare at her feet as she moved along.

They weren't bouncing along… they weren't light in their step… they were just heavy now, and solid, and somewhat sluggish…

And he heard her breath become shaky for half a second, an indication she bottled her feelings in… locking them up tightly…

He knew her. He knew everything about her.

And he knew he was the one who took away most of the light from her drained eyes.

And that cause his heart to break just a bit further.
Kagome, what would I do if I drove you away…? What would I do without you…?

A/n: What do you think? I hope it's pleasing. I'm somewhat pleased. Hey, look, this is heading somewhere, with a plot beginning to develop! See, no harm done is aimless wanderings, eh?? ^_^?
