InuYasha Fan Fiction ❯ Fallen Part One: Downfall ❯ Nothingness ( Chapter 15 )
Chapter 15: Nothingness
Dawn's first light graced the rustic village with its life giving light, causing the world to wake up and shake the cobwebs from their sleep-fogged brains. Slowly, one by one, the men took up their tools, be they plows or bows, and began their work for the day. Meanwhile the women tended their gardens, mended clothes, cook cleaned, saw their husbands off and took care of their children. It was a typical day in this small village, or so it would seem.
Among them walked a golem. A black shadow lurked in their shrine, parading as one of them. To the untrained eye she appeared to be one of them, but one with mystical senses, or even demon senses could tell she was not among the living. The humans that she surrounded herself with had no clue what she was. To them, she was merely a priestess. She healed the wounded and comforted the dieing. To them, she was a saint.
But she was far from it.
She had committed deeds of pure evil. She had forsaken what she once was and embraced the hate that went with her to the grave. She wanted to cleanse herself of these deeds, release her hatred, but found that she could not. It was too late for her.
//And this blood on my hands
Now it won't go away
I've been out on this road for days//
She went about her daily activities with the sun. Though she never slept, she needed to maintain the image of humanity. Today she was visiting with a young girl who had broken her leg, when she felt a chill go up her spine. Her spine stiffened and her senses went into overdrive.
//And the fear on the wall
Watch it slowly cascade
As the door holds the wolves at bay//
A smirk graced her lips momentarily as she headed out to the woods under the pretenses of gathering some herbs. She walked deep into the shadow-strewn wood, intent on reaching her target. She knew he was out there. Once she reached a sun dappled clearing, she stopped. There she waited for she knew he would come. He always did.
True to his predictability, he revealed himself a few minutes later. He would always come to her. He was drawn to her just as the other was. They would always come to her. She watched as he circled her, a predatory beast.
"What is it you want?" she asked slowly.
No answer. She wasn't expecting one.
Finally he came to a stop before her. He looked deeply into her eyes for several moments before he swiftly backhanded her. The hanyou was pissed. Really it didn't work to strike her, she was merely a golem of earth and bones. She had no real feeling, but it helped him to relieve some of his anger.
"You've failed me," he whispered in her ear. "Do not do so again, or I will kill you."
//The emptiness is building from
The nothingness that we've all become//
Fearfully, she looked into his blood colored eyes and nodded. It was not her wish to die again. He had killed her twice before, she did not want to be kill again only to be resurrected once more. She was nothing to him now, just as he was nothing to her. But he held a power over her.
"Answer me, bitch!" he yelled, not taking a nod for an answer.
"I-I will not fail you this time," she stammered.
"Good," he whispered before kissing her softly on her cold lips.
//The emptiness is building from
The nothingness that we've all become//
Without further ado, he turned and left her there, trembling in barely suppressed rage. In due time, he would fall. He would die by her arrow one more. He would die. For now, she would have to bide her time and deal with his abuse.
As he finally faded from view, almost seeming to meld with the shadows, she turned and began gathering herbs. The basket that she had carried on her arm had been all but forgotten. Her excuse for coming out here almost forgotten in her rage; it would not do to have the villagers getting suspicious of her.
//And this road that I've chose
Seems it's taken its' toll
Leading far, far away from the soul//
Slowly, she meandered down the path, still too lost in thought to really take notice of her surroundings. She would have to leave this village soon. She had a mission to complete. Her reincarnation needed to die. The girl may have been lucky thus far, but she would not be so lucky this time. She needed to reclaim her soul. But she has failed to realize time and time again that that soul would reject her. Her body and the small piece of her soul that she contained were made of pure malice. The remainder of her soul was pure and good. It would not accept her again.
//And the fear on the wall
Watch it slowly cascade
As the door holds the wolves at bay//
When she neared the village, she realized something was off. She also realized that it was well passed midday. She had been out that long. The sight that greeted her when she turned the last bend in the path was a sight she had seen to many times in all of her combined years.
The village that she had been staying with off and on for the passed few months lay in tatters. The charred remains of the buildings were the only things that remained. Inwardly she seethed. She would kill the bastard who did this.
//The emptiness is building from
The nothingness that we've all become//
A whisper from behind her caused her to start. "I didn't want you to have any distractions."
Her posture went rigid and she whipped around to strike only to find him gone. `You bastard,' she seethed as she stiffly turned and made her way down to the burned village. Slowly in the remaining light of day, she gathered all of the bodies and began digging a mass grave.
//The emptiness is building from
The nothingness that we've all become//
Glowing silver serpents flew through the air, gathering all of the lingering souls to return them to their mistress. Though she cried no tears for them, she mourned the loss of the village. But that quickly passed and her resolve hardened. The bitch had to die. She was the cause of all this.
//This thing I've become seems its' taken control
Of my mind and my body my will and my soul
Driving further and further away from my self
Until there's none of me left I've become something else//
With the last bit of dirt on the mass grave, the last bit of good in her hate driven soul was consumed. She would kill the bastard who did this and she would reclaim her soul. There was no other way. They would die. They would all die.
//The emptiness is building from
The nothingness that we've all become//

Well this was a simple short chapter, but it was necessary… I think. There are some unexpected plot twists… even for me. Like the one from the last chapter. I wasn't even planning on that one. It just sorta came to me so I grabbed and ran with it. I also cant believe I've gotten 15 chapters. That's a record for me. CELABRATE GOOD TIMES COME ON!… >< I'm such a dork. Well I've postponed math to get this outta my head so I can concentrate so I hope ya'll enjoy it!!! ^_^
