Meanwhile in the girls' room..........

"What was that all about Sango?" Kagome asked.

"What was what all about?"

"That remark you told Miroku."

"Yes, what about it?"

"Well, why'd you say it?"

"Because I felt like it!" Sango shouted. Kagome was taken aback and Sango calmed down and sighed.

"C-c'mon, you think he'd ask a girl he just met to bear his child? Rediculous!"

"Why not?" asked Shippou. "That's what he did to you and all the other girls. Even Sang-"

Kagome put a hand over the young kitsune's mouth before he could say anything else. Sango's eyes were already slits and Kagome wanted to prevent daggers from flying out from them.

"A-ha-ha! Shippou, why don't you go and poke fun at the boys okay?" She gently shoved him out the door before he could protest. "What'cha looking at Sango?"

Kagome looked out the window with her to see that it was Miroku, in the market square flirting with a group of girls. Sango huffed and turned away.

"Men are such fools!" she spat. "I often ask Kami why the hell he created them and the demons."

"So you put men and demons in the same catagory? Why?"

"Why not? Both are nuisanses and both Inuyasha and that monk are solid evidence!"

"So you swear to it that all men are this way?"

"Indeed I do."

"Then let me ask you this...Do you have a father or any brothers?"

Sango's breath caught sharply. "What?"

"Don't come up for excuses for them because they are men."

Sango held her head down and her fists clenched. "My father...Kohaku...they..."

Kirara looked at Sango comfortingly as if to say not to cry. Kagome knew she had hit a weak spot and scolded herself for upsetting Sango more.

"I'm sorry Sango, I didn't mean-"

"No I...it's fine. I'll be back later."

She went downstairs in the lounge and sat on a cousion. She scolded herself for acting so childish and letting her weaknesses show. That was something the enemy, or anyone for that matter, should know about her. If it was made known, it would destroy her.

The door opened, interrupting her thoughts, and Miroku walked in. He stopped at seeing her there and Sango groaned, getting up to leave.

"Lady Sango wait!"

"And why should I?"

"Have I done something to offend you?"

"Offend? Ha! That is the least thing! Now, if you'll excuse me."

"Lady Sango if-"

Sango spun around and pushed him down on a cousion. Miroku flopped down suprised, and looked at her questioningly. She bent down starring him in the face, anger clearly written in her features. But Kami how sexy she looked when she was angry with him, he thought.

"Stop calling me 'Lady,' trying to make me feel all so special and then turn around and do the same to other women!"

"Is that what this is about?"

Sango kneeled infront of him. "This is about a lot of things!"

"Then...tell me."

"Uh....this is uh....about..."

She couldn't think of the words to say to him because he looked at her in a way that no one else did. He looked directly in her eyes as if he were looking to find her soul. She became so frustrated she hit him upside the head so she wouldn't have to see those eyes of his.

"You should know what I'm talking about so I don't have to tell you!" she said quickly.

"I see," he said sitting up. "All right I won't call you Lady Sango anymore, although it suits you so perfectly. And I'll try to be more discreet seeing that you feel jealous."

"I am not jeal-"

"So with that I leave you with this gift." He handed her a neatly wrapped package. "I hope you like it. It'll be a change from that armor you always wear and be much more comfortable."

"I couldn't-"

"Settled in well I hope?" asked the innkeeper.

"Yes, very much thank you," replied Miroku.

"Oh!" she exclaimed. "Are you interested in swords miss?" The inkeeper had noticed that Sango was looking at the sword hanging on the wall.

"It caught my attention," Sango said.

"There's quite a story relating to that sword. Long ago that sword belonged to a demon slayer. He came upon our villiage in a time of need and protected all of us. We gladly gave him free room and board in exchange for him protecting the villiage. One day he caught dreadfully ill and on his deathbed promised that he would protect us, even beyond death. Born a fighter, he promised that as long as we kept this sword of his, heis soul would protect us."

"An interesting story," Miroku commented. "especially to you Sango since you also are a demon slayer."

"You are?" No wonder then you were drawn to the spirit of the sword!"

"Just coincidence," Sango replied shrugging.

The innkeeper left upon the arrival of other guests and Sango stood in front of the sword looking at it. Miroku stood beside her also.

"This demon slayer must have had a strong spirit to keep his promise," Miroku said.

"You really think his spirit truly lies within the sword?"

"It is a possibility. You must think him noble to fight to the very end."

"I do, but each demon slayer or any fighter for that matter, has their own different reasons for why they fight."

"Why?" Miroku asked, and then in a lower voice reapeated, "Why do you fight?"

Sango shuddered a bit from his sudden change of voice, but collected herself to answer. "I told you...I...fight for myself."

"You mean you fight by yourself."

"'A single grain of rice can tip the scale'"

"How much more so will a handful of rice accomplish? Hostilty won't help you win, driving away those who want to help, does nothing.

Sango lowered her head. "Thos who help...end up dead. This is my curse."

Miroku didn't know what else to say. She was just to darn stubborn. But no matter what she did to him to push him away, he wanted to be closer to her.

Sango wondered to herself if she should just leave these people. They were only making her remember bad memories. She once again was brought back by a light touch on her bottom. She smacked him again.

"What's with you?! You got a thing for my ass?!"

"What? I tried to be gentle!"

"Oh that completely ruined the moment!"

"Moment? We were having a moment?" he smiled.

"D-don't smile at me like that!"

"Why? Are you afraid you might like it?" he asked smiling even sexier then Sango thought possible. Wait, did she just think that his smile was sexy?

"You ARE impossible!" she yelled, slapping him again.

She stormed off up the stairs and if Inuyasha, who had been going down, hadn't moved to the side, she might have run him over or pushed him over the railing.

"Damn she looks pissed," he declared once he had safely reached the bottom. "What did you do this time?"

"Obviously the wrong thing," Miroku sighed.

"Why am I not surprised?"

Miroku hit Inuyasha on the head with his staff, but this time, the hanyou responded by taking it away from the houshi and hitting HIM on the head instead.

"How do you like it eh?!" *whack*

Miroku rubbed his head. "If I don't die from this air rip, it'll be from being slapped around by everyone."

"Not our fault you can't keep you mouth shut or your hands to yourself."

"Don't make me hit you again!"

"Bring it on!"

Before either of them could react, they both were engulfed in flames and then covered with soot. Both sweatdropped as they saw Kirara seem to snicker before bounding up the stairs. Meanwhile upstairs.....

"He did it again, didn't he?" Kagome asked.

"AAAAAHHHHRRRRRHHHH!!!!! He so damn annoying I could....I could..."

"Kiss him?"

"WHAT?!"

"I mean, uh, knock him silly?"

"What was that supposed to mean, Kagome?"

Kagome looked at the package that was now unwrapped. "Did you see what he bought you?"

Sango looked to see it was a pink and green kimono. He had gone out of his way....to buy this? For her?

"This is..." she started.

"A most generous gift. But then of course to you it wouldn't matter since he's 'so annoying'."

"No one has ever..."

"You have to admit that Miroku isn't all bad."

Thankfully the dinner bell rang so Sango didn't have to answer. Shippou burst through the door pushing at the girls not to be late. Kagome left with him while Sango stayed behind.

While Sango was within the quiet solitude of her bedroom, downstairs at dinner was quite a different story....

"Man!" Inuyasha exclaimed, his mouth half-way filled with food. "This is the best meal I've had in ages!"

"Hey! Just what are you saying?" Kagome said, looking crossly.

Inuyasha stared blankly at her and replied, "...That this is the best meal I've had in ages?"

"What about my cooking? It wasn't so horrible!"

"It was bearable."

"See if I ever make you ramen ever again you ungrateful-"

"I like your food Kagome-chan!" Shippou cut in.

"Thank you. At least someone appreciates me."

"I appreaciate you," said Miroku.

"Don't we know that."

Sango then walked in. Miroku looked at her in awe, being that she was wearing the kimono that he had bought her. Her hair was no longer in a pony-tail, but was loose, cascading around her face and shoulders.

"Sorry I'm late," she said.

"That's all right!" Shippou exclaimed happily. "I kept some food away so Inuyasha wouldn't eat it all!"

Inuyasha grunted and Kagome giggled. Sango sat beside Miroku, but far enough so that he wouldn't pull anything funny. Miroku couldn't keep his eyes off her. She looked more beautiful in the kimono than he imagined.

"Why are you starring at me like that?" Sango asked.

Miroku was startled from his thoughts and jumped, but he calmed as he replied, "I just...um...you look nice."

"Thank you."

Out of nowhere screams were heard and all raced outside to see the commotion. It was a demon that much resembled at bat: glowing eyes, fangs, a cloak that made him glide.

"Come to join us for dinner aye?" Inuyasha smirked.

"Too late, Inuyasha ate it all," said Shippou.

"Hello? You just ruined my speech!"

"That was a speech?"

"I wasn't done yet!"

"Hey hanyou!" called Sango. "If you're done arguing why don't you make yourself useful and help!"

Sango had already engaged in battle with Kirara. Inuyasha grunted as he drew his weapon and charged with a battle cry. The demon heard this and simply moved out of the way so he just tripped and fell on Sango and Kirara.

"What the hell was that!" Sango snapped. "You couldn't be more subtle in your attack could you?"

"Shut up! You told me to come and help!"

"Right! Not trip and fall on me!"

"Guys? A little help here?" asked Kagome. "Hey Miroku! Don't even think about using your air rip!"

"It'll get rid of him faster!" he yelled as he barely dodged an oncoming attack.

"So will these," she said as she launched her purity arrows.

"Sure if you can hit him."

"Shut up!"

The demon dodged Kagome's arrows and then released a mist, paralyzing the group.

"Damn you!" Inuyasha spat through gritted teeth.

The demon laughed mockingly at the hanyou and then turned his attention to Sango.

"You're a demon slayer. I can smell the blood of other demons on you."

"Your blood will soon be added to it you bastard!"

"You know that sooner or later you'll die. That time has come now!"

The demon rased his claws for the kill and Sango truly wondered if this was the end of her. Tears stung her eyes as she heard her name being called.

"No!! Sango!!"

It was Miroku. He was calling for her? But why? Just when all hope was lost a bright light flooded the darkness, and its source appeared between Sango and the demon. It was the sword that once hung in the inn, but now glowed brightly. A hand took it, a hand and body of a samurai spirit...the owner of the sword.

"The demon slayer?" Sango asked.

The demon was baffled at this sudden appearance, and before he could even utter a sound, the samurai slayed him with one quick stroke. The demon instantly fell and was consumed by the darkness by which he came. The group was freed by the paralyzing spell, and the samurai spoke to them.

"I have protected this villiage many times from demons such as these, but my soul lies unrest, being I'm bound by promise. I realize that I could do much greater good if my powers weren't so limited." He then turned to Sango and continued. "You also are a demon slayer. Please, take my sword so that my soul will rest and my powers entrusted to you for a greater good. This is my truest wish."

With that he vanished and the sword was left blade first in the ground in front of Sango.

"Okay, what just happened?" Kagome asked nervously.

"A generous gift," Sango said with a light smile.

"You all right Kagome?" Inuyasha asked.

"Yes, thank you."

"You all right Shippou?" Sango asked.

Shippou, who was hiding stuttered, "Oh j-j-just dandy."

"Are you all right Miroku?" Miroku asked himself. "Why yes, thank you for your concern. 'Your welcome'."

"You're crazy," Kagome said shaking her head.

"G-g-guys?" Shippou stammered.

"What is it?"

Shippou couldn't answer. He was so terrified, the only thing he could do was point a shaky finger at the cause of his fear. All looked to see a mist of red miasma and a youkai standing on top of it. His eyes were golden, his hair long, silken white. Sango noticed the others with fearful expressions, except for Inuyasha, who held the figure in contempt. Sango looked up at him with awe. Who was this?

"Oh, this isn't good!" exclaimed Kagome.

"Who is that?" Sango asked.

"That's Sesshoumaru," Miroku answered. "He's the TaiYoukai of the Western Lands, a.k.a. Inuyasha's half brother."

"What? Half brother!"

Sesshoumaru turned his stoic gaze towards Sango. "Another ningen?" Although he only said two words, death and malice was wrapped all over them, and that caused Sango to involuntarily shudder.

However, she kept her firm resolution and sternness in her voice and her face as she retorted, "What? You got a problem with humans?" He said nothing to her, and wanting some sort of reaction from him, she asked. "Want to make something of it, demon?!"

"Uh, Sango, you shouldn't provoke him like that even though you're pretty tough and all. But we're talking about (1) he's a TaiYoukai, (2) he's merciless and (3)...well...he's a TaiYoukai!!"

"I don't give a damn about who the bastard is. A demon's a demon and I already have my sights on killing him."

"Well, sorry if I spoil your fun, but Sesshoumaru is mine!" And with that, Inuyasha attacked him.

"I've heard of sibling rivalries, but I think this is a bit overdoing it."

"You're right," said Kagome. "This is far more than your ordinary sibling rivalry. The true meaning of these fights lies far more deeper than even I can understand. Only Inuyasha and Sesshoumaru know the true meaning of these battles."

All watched Inuyasha's futile attempts to attack his brother-

"Half brother!" Inuyasha spat.

Author: Whatever.

"Quite frankly I'm ashamed to have you as even a half brother!" said Sesshoumaru. "That's all you'll ever be you pathetic hanyou. Half of everything and anything!"

Author: Hello? Can I do my job please?

"I could care less about your job."

Author: And I could care less if you should 'accidently' die!

Sesshoumaru growled in frustration and decided to make his final move. Within an instant he grabbed hold of Inuyasha's neck in a death grip. With a flick of his wrist, all knew that he could break Inuyasha's neck like a twig.

"Inuyasha!" Kagome cried.

"Stay...put!" he growled.

"Let him go!"

Kagome was in tears as she ran over to the two, purity arrows in hand to shoot at point blank, but she was stopped by Sesshoumaru's tail which flung her back.

"Kagome!" cried Shippou.

"I won't stand for this!" Sango ground out, eyes glaring.

She grabbed hold of the samurai's sword and she immediately felt stronger with the prescence of the guiding spirit. With speed she ran right to Sesshoumaru and swung at him. Sesshoumaru saw this and moved to the side, but not before she had actually cut off his left hand. Inuyasha fell back chocking, trying to get the detatched hand's grip on him away from him. The Demon Lord looked at Sango with slight awe, but then smirked.

"You, demon slayer. Impressive. You and I are a lot alike."

Sango, still in her battle stance, replied stifly, "I can't possibly imagine having something in common with a demon."

"But we do. You hate the demons as much as I hate the hanyous and humans."

"I assure you, I'm not the only one who feels hate."

Sesshoumaru frowned. "I don't feel...I am..."

With that he rose in the air on a mist of miasma with a look in his eyes that promised his return. The group sighed with relief that they once again survived another encounter from Sesshoumaru...with the skin of their teeth.
