MIROKU'S P.O.V.

I've lost track of time completely. I can't say whether it's been days or months since the last time I saw my beloved Sango. That cursed montser took her away from me, most likely to his castle. From where we made camp, it was going to be quite a long journey though the Western Lands in order to reach the castle. It would especially be so since Inuyasha said that to reduce detection, we should move slowly and subtly. The odds were surely against us, and I would have liked nothing more than to storm right up to the castle and wisk my beloved away. However, I knew Inuyasha was right; we couldn't afford for Sesshoumaru to detect us. But oh Sango! How are you faring? You're still alive in my heart and when I close my eyes, I can see your beautiful face smiling at me.

"A hundred days have made me older

Since the last time that I saw your pretty face.

A thousand lies have made me colder

And I don't think I can look at this the same.

All the miles that separate

Dissapear now when I'm dreamin' of your face."

That night when Sango and I shared our first kiss. Oh, if there was ever heaven on earth Kami this was it! I know know for certain that Sango has the same feelings I have for her! But why did that one piece of heaven have to shatter and turn into a firery hell? Forgive me, my love, I wasn't able to protect you! I vaguely remember her calling out my name...MY NAME! It was the first time she had spoken my name aloud, and even though it was laced with dispair, it was also filled with concern and worry. She was afraid for me. However I was too weak to save her, and I could only watch as Sesshoumaru carried my love off into the moonlight before I passed out.

"I'm here without you baby

But you're still on my lonely mind.

I think about you baby

And I dream about you all the time.

I'm here without you baby

But you're still with me in my dreams.

And tonight, it's only you and me."

Kirara had found me by the lake that night and brought me back to Kagome and Inuyasha. When I came to, I told them what happened. Kagome and Shippou were so worried and frightened, they were close to tears. Inuyasha's rage grew and his hatred against his half brother intensified. Kirara declared that she was going to look for her mistress and I volunteered to go with her, but she refused. She said that in the state I was in I would only get in her way. With that she bounded away in her search.

It infuriated me that she thought I was so weak and incapable of assisting her. So since that time I've been vigorously training, pushing myself to my limits and even beyond them. I had no choice, in order to save Sango I have to push myself. I won't let her down.

"The miles just keep rollin'

As the people leave their way to say hello.

I've heard this life is overrated

But I hope that this gets better as we go."

"Miroku! Come quick!"

"What is it Shippou?"

"It's Kirara! She's come back!"

At the sound of this I rushed over to the others, forgetting about the training excercise I was in the middle of. I arrived in time to see Kirara stumble towrds the fire then collapse from exhaustion. She down-sized to her small neko form and curled up in a ball. Kagome cradled her and kept her warm by the fire.

"Oh Kirara!" she exclaimed. "Are you all right? What happened?"

Kirara mewed in pain and strained to communicate as she turned towards me. "I'm...so sorry Miroku...I tried..."

"Kirara, what happened?" I demanded.

"I was...unable to save...her. We were close to escape but...he caught us."

"He? You mean Sesshoumaru?" Kagome asked.

"Please save her...save her from...herself..."

"Herself?" I asked. "What do you mean?"

"Kagome," Inuyasha interupted, "you must act fast. She's taken in too much miasma."

"Right. Shippou, help me collect the herbs."

"Okay."

Kagome gave Kirara to me to keep warm while she and Shippou left to collect the herbs that they needed.

"I'm here without you baby

But you're still on my lonely mind.

I'm here without you baby

And I dream about you all the time.

I'm here without you baby

But you're still with me in my dreams.

And tonight, it's only you and me."

This couldn't be true! Not even Kirara could rescue Sango and here she lies in my arms, close to dying. How could I do what she could not? Was there any hope? Yes, of course there was. I will do whatever means necessary to rescue you, my Sango! If I must fight my way through an army of demons to get to you, so be it! My love, or rather, OUR love will be a bond that will never be broken, and I swear to you that by that bond I will find you. Nothing will keep me away from you, not even this cursed hole in my hand will tear us apart. Have patience and hope, my love. I'm coming. Wait for me.

"Everything I know, and anywhere I go,

It gets hard but it won't take away my love.

And when the last one falls,

When it's all said and done,

It gets hard but it won't take away my love.

I'm here without you baby,

But you're still on my lonely mind.

I'm think without you baby,

And I dream about you all the time.

I'm here without you baby,

But you're still with me in my dreams.

And tonight, it's only you and me."

Sango had begun to regain conciousness. Was she dead? No, if she was she wouldn't be able to be feeling any of the sensations that coursed through her body. Two of the sensations puzzled her. She couldn't seem to move, as if her arms and legs had been pinned to her sides. The other was a stinging feeling at her neck. She opened her eyes, and groggily moaned in discomfort. She tried to struggle, but a deep growl and a squeeze prevented her from doing so.

"What the-" she started then gasped in horror. "Get of me!"

"Keep still," came a harsh growl.

Sesshoumaru had his tail wrapped around her in a firm hold. He had laid her on her bed and was leaning over her, licking her neck. Sango, utterly disgusted by this act tried to retaliate, but Sesshoumaru growled once more in warning. She had no choice but to allow him to continue.

Why exactly was he doing this? The whole situation was making her nervous. Was he going to rip her throat out? No, that wasn't it. If that was his intention he would have done so already. As the last few events rolled back into her mind, she recalled that he had poisoned her with his claws. Wasn't that the exact same spot where he had scratched her...her neck? With that in mind she also recalled that dogs had a certain healing solution within their saliva. Did the same apply for dog demons? So that meant that he was healing her. But why? 'Oh well' she thought, 'it doesn't matter right now.'

She flinched again at the sudden pain she felt in her neck and Sesshoumaru stopped. He loosened his tail a bit, knowing that she wouldn't try to escape. Sango opened her eyes slowly and gazed into Sesshoumaru's golden depths. He was so close, could feel his warm breath on her face, and it made her feel uncomfortable in more ways than one. She could feel herself blushing and she turned her head away from him, exposing her neck to him in a silent gesture for him to continue.

Sesshoumaru bent his head low once more and continued to lap up the few drops of blood that had now formed. Sango found that besides the slight twinges of pain, she found the gesture to be quite relaxing. She abruptly scolded herself for allowing her mind to subject itself to such thoughts, but then decided that she could always beat herself up for it in the morning. Sleep seemed very aluring and she found herself wrapping her arms around the soft fur that was around her body.

Sesshoumaru groaned, this was not good. If there was one thing that he couldn't stand, it was someone cuddling up with his tail. He tried to move it away, but she clung to it tighter and buried her face within it. He couldn't help but let out a groan of pleasure. Seeing there was no escape in the matter, he layed beside her and watched over her while she slept.

He had to admit, that with each passing moment, he was becoming more and more intrigued by her. Ever since their first encounter, he had been captivated by the flame in her eyes. It was just as intense as the darkness flame of her past. Even under spell, she resisted manipulation, so he would have to go with a different approach. When returning to memories of her past, it didn't show the reason for how her father and brother died. Did she not know, herself? Or did she block out her own memory?

"I thought I knew all your secrets, princess," he whispered. "Now I wonder whether you yourself know them."

'Princess.' Why did he keep calling her that? She was human; a worthless, pathetic human...wasn't she? The way she conducted herself and the way that she fought all suggested otherwise. She was something worth much more, but what was it? 'Who are you?' he thought. He brushed a few strands of hair away from her face and she sighed, leaning into his touch.

'Such innosense,' he thought. While asleep, her true feelings were revealed as the frightened, innocent child she was. And somehow...somehow even that purity seemed tainted. He concluded that the perversion done to her soul was caused by a major event in her past. It made sense, after all, everything she had done since then was in relation to her past; the result to whatever horrendous thing happened to her. Could this be so? Could the feelings or events of one's past create the window and outlook for how one will live in the future? Yes, he himself could relate to that theory.

Morning was close, and he had several matters to attend to as soon as possible. Sesshoumaru uncoiled his tail around her carefully, so as not to wake her, then wrapped the sheets around her, tightly. She didn't even stir, as if she had never slept a night in her life and was competely exhausted. With that one last glance at her, he took his leave. As he walked down the hallway a figure appeared in the shadows.

"You are pathetic. Allowing yourself to be near a human, a woman no less, all night? You could've easily killed her, you've had many opportunities to do so. If you had followed my orders-"

Sesshoumaru turned, "You know, I really don't understand your overanxiousness over the matter Naraku. What are you so afraid of? She is just a human and poses no threat to us, so why worry."

"You forget she is a Demon Slayer. She's killed hundreds of our kind!"

Sesshoumaru looked him in the eye. "You know something...don't you?"

"I don't know what you are talking about."

"You know something, and you're afraid of her. Why else would there be uncertainty in your eyes?"

"I know that you are too laid back for your own good! The proud Taiyoukai has fallen at the hands of a woman!" He then dissapeared into the darkness, but his voice remained with an earie echo, "You've grown too soft Sesshoumaru!"
