Sango awoke to the few bright rays of the sun peeking through the heavy red drapes on the large window. After she stretched she got aout of the large comfortable bed with feather soft pillows and discovered she was in nothing but her undergarments. 'Damn him' she thought, thinking how he had been with her like that last night and she was practically naked. She dressed in her armor which was quite filthy from battle and tied her hair in a pony-tail with another band.
She walked over to the window and flung open the curtains, flooding the room with light. After her eyes adjusted she opened the French doors and walked out onto the balcony. What a sight she saw! Green hills, majestic moutains, the scent of cherry blossoms being carried on the back of the wind. The beauty of it all literally took her breath away. 'Too bad such beauty is wasted on the demons' she thought.
Her thoughts were interrupted by a rapping at the door. It opened and several demons dressed servents walked in. They appeared to be male and female, even though they pratically looked identical. All were tall and lean with narrow slits for eyes and thin-lined lips. Sango glared at them in contempt.
"Lord Sesshoumaru has instructed us to fit your clothing," said the one that was the head servent.
"That won't be necessary."
"That wasn't a request."
"Well the command has been denied nonetheless. Leave me."
"We're under strict orders by Lord Sesshoumaru. Disobeying him will prove costly."
"What's the worst he'll do to you?"
"Prolong our death with an endless torture."
"Well then I suppose I should do you all a favor then."
In an instant she drew her sword and beheaded the head servent. The corpse fell to the floor and by that time she had slayed two more. They didn't even see what hit them until it was too late. Once she finished she put her sword back in its sheath.
"Instead of a slow death, I've provided you a quicker one. Oh, no, you don't have to thank me. REALLY," she snickered.
At that moment a small toad-like demon with a small bird beak ran in. Upon seeing Sango standing over the corpses, he screeched in fury.
"What! How dare you!" he squalked. "What do you think you are doing?"
"What does it look like I'm doing?" Sango answered, dropping another body in the pile outside her bedroom door.
"Lord Sesshoumaru will not be pleased! Oh dear! Oh my!"
"Shut up you ugly toad!"
"The name is Jaken! Use it wench!"
"Oh yeah? Well you and your demon lord can shove a katana up your conceited asses for all I care!"
With that she kicked him like a ball and Jaken went flying down the hallway. After dumping the last mangled body in the pile, she decided to make her escape. She looked around and wondered how she would ever find her way out. She hoped Kirara was all right and wished for her to be there to help her. All the hallways looked the same, she didn't even know if she was going in circles. Coming around a corner a demon walked and she slit his throat before he could even breathe. Now that it was safe she found herself at the top of a grand staircase. The wooden banisters were carved in the shape of gargoyle heads with tounges like that of a snake. It was dimly lit by the huge candelabras every several yards. Why was it so dark?
She had almost reached the bottom of the steps when she was thrown forward. Sango screamed in suprise as she fell down the last few steps and onto the marbled floor. Sango leaped up and stood ready, catching sight of a demon with long, wavy black hair. The look in his eye was pure dark and evil.
"Pathetic human woman. I will kill you here and now!"
"You will soon eat those words!"
She lunged at him, but he repelled her by a sending a ki wave which caused her to stumble backwards. Getting to her feet once more she swung at him, each attack he dodged. Sango brought the sword upon his head, but he caught hold of her wrist, twisting it before giving her a punch in her abdomen. Sango fell to the floor, gasping for breath.
The room suddenly became flooded with light and both shielded their eyes. A skylight had opened at the top of the cathedral ceiling, the candelabras now extinguished. Sesshoumaru emerged and took hold of Sango.
"Leave her be, Naraku!" he growled.
"N-Naraku?" Sango asked agast.
"Why do you keep her alive?" Naraku demanded. "Why not let me kill her?!"
"They are my orders!"
"You! Naraku!" called Sango. "I've been searching for you a long time! At last we meet!"
Naraku raised a brow at her. "I don't believe we've met."
"My name is Sango and I come from the villiage of which the Shikon No Tama origionated. You destroyed that villiage in search of the jewel and killed my family!"
"I kill many humans, it's impossible to remember them each specifically."
"Monster!" Sango shouted, trying to free herself from Sesshoumaru's strong hold. "I swear on my father's and brother's graves I will kill you!" Sango's eyes flared as he began to laugh. "Don't you dare laugh!"
"You'll die a horrendous death before that happens."
"If so my soul will surely not rest until it drags you through the very gates of hell!"
"Nothing but empty threats. I'm afraid, however, you have me confused with someone else."
"Bastard!"
"Have you no respect, ningen? This is a holy sanctuary! Lord Sesshoumaru how can you let her wander your palace in that disgusting attire? How disrespectful!" With that he walked off and dissapeared into the shadows.
"Come back!" Sango demanded. "I'm not finished with you yet!"
"Keep calm!" Sesshoumaru said shaking her shoulders a bit. "What's going on?"
"Let go of me! I must kill him! I will!"
"It appears we have much to discuss. Go change your clothes and we'll talk."
"I'm through with talking! If you don't let me go I'll kill you now!"
Sesshoumaru lightly touched her side where her ribs were bruised and she winced and nearly collapsed. Howevever she was supported by the Taiyoukai's hold. "You will do as told and dress! If you refuse I'll dress you myself!" he growled.
"Fine," she spat, glaring.
Sango went through a pair of large wooden doors where a group of maids were awaiting her. They worked on her quickly and silently, probably afraid she'd kill them as she killed the others. Sango stood in front of a three-sided mirror and noticed on her neck, faint scars. It was where Sesshoumaru had scratched her and the wound was almost completely gone.
They had dressed her in a lavender kimono, a pink sash secured tightly around her waist with sleeves past her hands. The pattern consisted of pink cherry blossoms, that were scattered about. Her hair was pulled back in a bun, secured by two chopsticks. Pink satin slippers comforted her feet and she was then led out the doors and escorted through the gardens.
Sango walked down a stone path, in which both sides had lilacs and shady trees. Leaving that forest and entering an archway filled with climbing roses, she came to a meadow. Emerald green hills were spotted with wildflowers. Several large cherry trees grew and under the largest one sat the Demon Lord on a bench. She walked up to him and he looked her over.
"Very nice," he commented. "However you do not smile. You would look better if you did."
"What's with all the charity, Sesshoumaru? Am I not your prisoner?"
"Would you prefer to be thrown in my dungeon, naked?"
"I'd prefer to be realeased this instant!"
"You wish to return to you lover?" he asked with a cocky expression.
"That's none of your concern!" she snapped with an angry blush.
"I should tell you that it's a good thing I came for you when I did. Although now it's probably too late and you won't believe me."
"Not the whole 'saving my life' thing again," she said rolling her eyes. "You have given me no reason to trust you! You were in the room with me when I broke the Dream Weaver Demon's spell. That means he was under your orders and you saw my entire dream! Are you trying to figured out my weaknesses?!"
"No, I'm trying to help."
"By raping my mind?!" she snapped. "Normally when people want to know something they ask, not cast spells on them!"
"Then I will ask."
"I'll ask the questions! I believe you've taken all you needed from my mind. What has happened to my friends?!"
Sesshoumaru sighed, "I do not know what has become of your so-called 'friends'. I wasn't interested in them. However, I did not kill them if that's what you were implying."
"Why a sudden interest in me; a Demon Slayer? Aren't you the least bit concerned that I'll kill you?"
"No. You couldn't last night and you never will."
"Never say never," she said glaring.
"Sesshoumaru-sama! Sesshoumaru-sama!" A little girl ran over to him and tugged his hand. Sango looked at her amazed; it was a human girl! "Jaken-sama won't let me pick flowers!" Her gaze shifted to Sango who quickly hid behind Seshoumaru.
"Rin, this is Sango," said Sesshoumaru.
"Hi," she said shyly.
"Hi Rin," Sango greeted with a smile, tryin to ease away the girl's shyness. "That flower bracelet is lovely! Did you make it?"
Rin nodded. "But Jaken-sama won't let me pick more."
The toad creature ran up to them breathing hard. "That child is bothersome! I'm too old for this!"
"Yeah, your age really shows," Sango said causing Rin to giggle.
"Jaken, take Rin to the hill."
"B-but Lord Sesshoumaru-!"
"Oh shut up and just go!" Sango snapped, kicking him once again like a ball sending him high onto the hill.
"Wow! Look at him go!" Rin exclaimed. "I like you Sango-chan! I'll make a flower bracelet for you to!" With that she happily skipped up the hill.
"Why haven't you killed Jaken yet?" Sesshoumaru asked.
"Probably for the same reason as you; I enjoy the amusement." Sesshoumaru inwardly smirked. "However, you'll never cease to confuse me. The Taiyoukai of the Western Lands is guardian to a human girl."
"Almost as rediculous as a Demon Slayer who's companion and closest ally is a Neko Demon."
Sango remained silent and the two watched Rin play on the hill. She couldn't remember ever being as carefree as that young girl. Rin lifted her head and smiled at the sun, spinning around with her arms embracing the clouds. Sango wondered if she was ever like that. She couldn't remember feeling so...happy as a child.
"You are worth much more than you realize," Sesshoumaru said interrupting her thoughts. "From what I've seen you are unique, and you should be aware of who you are."
"I know who I am."
"My senses tell me otherwise. And too, you don't know exactly what happened the night your villiage was destroyed."
"Shut up! Just shut the hell up! You know nothing!"
"I know that your past and that night are key in knowing your identity. I can find out. I can help."
"I said shut the hell up! My memories have died within the ashes of the flames until recently when you restarted them! I don't want your help! I don't need your help and you telling me what's good for me! I want to go back to my friends! I want out of here! So fuck off and stay out of my life!"
Sesshoumaru growled fiercely and in one quick movement grabbed hold of her neck, gripping it tightly. "I'd watch your words if I were you. Don't forget I am the demon, and you are the pathetic human. Killing you is no problem."
Sango glared, "But it's as you said; you didn't last night and you never will. So go to hell."
Sesshoumaru grew impatient with the girl and slapped her across the face. Sango made no sound of outcry, but simply touched her redened cheek and glared hard at him with gritted teeth. He silently stood up and left her there, retreated through the forest gardens.
Sango walked over to the little girl, Rin, sitting within the flowers, a bothersome Jaken yelling at her.
"Leave her be, toad!" Sango demanded.
"Who are you to give ME orders?" he retorted.
Sango leaned down and glared, "You want me to kick you again?"
Jaken's eyes went wide. "Nonononono!" he squalked running off.
Rin giggled, "I've never seen Jaken-sama afraid of someone other than Sesshoumaru-sama! Here, I just finished this." She handed her a flower bracelet.
"Thank you," she said sitting beside her. "Say Rin, how did you get to live here?"
"Sesshoumaru-sama rescued me from a bunch of demons, and let me stay with him."
"But...you do know he's also a demon. Aren't you afraid of him?"
Rin looked at her puzzled and blinked. "Should I be? And why? He saved me, he's the best thing that happened to me since Mama and Papa died. It's like he's my new Papa, he takes good care of me."
"He's...good to you?" Sango asked, trying to make sense of it all."
"Yes! He was good to you too by rescuing you!"
"What? How do you know-"
"He told me. Sesshoumaru-sama says that you were tricked into thinking you were doing good, while really the people you were with were evil. He also said something about you not being able to wake up."
"Wake up? Tricked? What else did he say?"
"Let's make flower necklaces and crowns Sango-chan! Then we can pretend we're flower fairies!"
"But Rin, what about-"
"C'mon! Let's play!"
It was no use, the little girl had completely set her mind at play. However, that smile Rin had was so warm it seemed to melt all Sango's trouble's away. So the two spent the day among the flowered hill at play with no worries, completely carefree.
