InuYasha Fan Fiction ❯ Fallen Samurai ❯ Chapter 16 ( Chapter 16 )
Days passed since the encounter that night. During that time, Sango made sure to never be alone with Sesshoumaru except with Rin, or just avoid him altogether. She would rather not see him at all. He began to look at her strangely since that night, and she had been ACTING strange; always finding excuses to leave to her room. It was all she could do without feeling more guilty than she already did.
She was out in the gardens with Rin, playing hide-and-seek between the trees. It was another beautiful day, with all the troubles gone, melted in the light of the sun. Sango had found Rin behind a bush and tickled her, Rin laughing with glee. Sesshoumaru then came to the laughing pair.
"Rin. Go inside with your studies with Jaken."
"Do I have to Sesshoumaru-sama?" she begged.
"Yes Rin."
"It's okay Rin," said Sango, "I have to do something anyway. We'll play later all right?"
"Okay!" she said happily and skipped away.
"Bye!" Sango called before leaving. However her exit was cut off for Sesshoumaru walked in front of her. "Do you mind?"
"Where could you possibly need to go?" he asked.
"None of your concern," she said walking around him.
Sesshoumaru blocked her again. "I think you're avoiding me."
"Really? What gave you that idea?" she asked moving only to be blocked once more.
"Always in a hurry for no aparent reason when I arrive. You don't smile like you do when you're with Rin."
"Just leave me alone!" she said, this time he didn't stop her when she walked away. "You've given me no reason to smile for you!"
Sesshoumaru grabbed her arm in a firm grip. "I refuse to be ignored!"
"Or what?" she snapped. "You'll hit me again?"
"No," he said suddenly pulling her close to his body. "I will do something more effective." He gently carressed her cheeck with his hand. "Don't deny this, I know what you want. Just give in. We both want the same thing; it's no use escaping that fact."
"Please...stop..."
"I don't think you realize how much I truly...deeply..." He leaned down and kissed her softly then whispered, "...am hurt. Being with you is painful and yet you sooth the pain away with your fingers." He brought her hand to his lips, kissing her fingertips. "I want to help you. I have reason to believe that even you don't know certain things in your past."
Sango pushed him away. "Yeah right. Give me one good reason why I should listen to you." She took but a few steps away from him when he said something that made her blood freeze.
"You're a demon."
Sango spun around. "What?! You're out of your mind!"
"Think about it," he said walking towards her. "Both you and that neko demon were exposed to the same amount of miasma. How is it that she fell and you were still able to fight me? And your sword. In order for that sword to harness that much power, the wielder must have a strong aura. A miko could probably use the blade, but you are no miko. Your scent faintly contains demon blood, but only a fully experienced youkai can smell it, and he can only do so when you're angry."
"An intriguing story, but I don't believe you!"
"It can be proven."
"Oh? How?"
"By casting a spell."
"Oh no! No more of your mind games!"
"But it won't be. It'll only unlock your past memories. Even that night you claimed Naraku killed your family."
"But he did!"
"Did you see his face?" She shook her head. "This will tell for certain. I'm willing to take you to see your friends."
"What? Really?"
"Of course. I will deny you nothing, Sango. Know I only wish to help."
Sango thought to herself. Could he really mean what he had just said? That he was trying to help? She didn't believe for a minute his claim that she was a demon, but he had offered to take her to her friends as an action of trust. She didn't trust him at all, but if he was to take her to see her beloved Miroku, then that was all she needed.
"All right then," she said. "Let's go, but no promises about casting spells on me."
"Very well," he said, a miasma mist forming around them. He held her as they took flight. "But I wonder if your friends even care you're gone."
"You can talk all you want, but those words don't mean shit to me!"
The miasma carried the pairoff onto the wind. Sango felt the wind suddenly prickle her skin, and she shivered. Sesshoumaru saw this and drew her close to him for warmth, but she slammed her elbow into his stomach and pushed away. He smiled, being that this attack didn't even make him flinch.
Once they passed over a grove of trees they came upon a meadow. Sango's heart lept for joy when she saw a familiar figure sitting on a hill. Her beloved Miroku! She was about to call out to hi when she noticed something; he wasn't alone. Within his arms sat a woman. She gazed lovingly up at Miroku and he smiled at her. 'No' Sango thought, 'That smile belongs to me!' She spun around and grabbed Sesshoumaru's robes pulling him down to meet her eyes filled with angry tears that threatened to fall.
"You knew this all along didn't you!" she snapped. "So why the hell did you bring me here if you already knew!"
"Because you needed to see with your own eyes the truth. Otherwise, you wouldn't have believed me."
Sango pushed him away and looked at Miroku. "Damn you...you pathetic bastard!" She clenched her fists tight. "You traitor! You damned traitor!"
"The other two are no different from him."
"W-what?"
"Did Kagome say why she was collecting the sacred jewel shards?"
"She said in order to purify them and guard it from the evils in this world."
"So she would want you to believe. Do you know who she really is? A powerful reincarnation of a miko whose evil ran rampant. Her formal self was Kikyou and she and Inuyasha were lovers. That's the reason why he keeps her, because she reminds him of her. Inuyasha will use the jewel to make himself a full youkai and being Kagome is a miko, she will aid him in harnessing that power. I don't think I need to tell you the danger you were in with such ones."
Sango's head was held low at the mention of these words. "Why should I believe you."
"Dear Sango, I have shown you the true colors of your comrades! Have I denied you nothing?" He placed his hands gently on her shoulders. "Princess, now do you see why I saved you? I know the pain you suffered at the loss of your family. I couldn't bear to see it happen again by that monk. I won't let you be heartbroken."
"Heart...bro..ken?"
Sesshoumaru turned her around and tilted her chin to meet his gaze. "Please, won't you let me assist you now? You have seen and you have heard. We'll find out the answers to your questions...come with me!"
"I...I'm afraid you're too late to save my heart from breaking."
He held her hands to his chest, in a loving gesture. "Will you allow me to mend it? You can trust me, Sango. I promise I won't let anything happen to you. I will care for you always."
Sango lowered her head in thought. It was true, it was all true. She knew she shouldn't have fallen for that monk the moment she laid eyes on him! She knew deep in her heart that he could at any given moment break her heart and move on to another woman. Being that she was gone, he forgot all about her and now rested in the arms of another. After glancing a last look at her once beloved, she looked sternly at Sesshoumaru and gave her reply.
"When do we begin?"
