Chapter 5 - Fate Reveals the Doors
Akari lay down beside the fire exhausted. Today had been very rough between the long miles of hiking and Naraku's youkai attacking. She was ready to slip into quiet slumber. The sounds of her friends around her were soothing. Kagome was telling Shippo a bed time storythe three little pigs if she wasn't mistaken. She could hear Miroku sliding closer and closer to Sango. She smiled, waiting for theoh there it was. The houshi would be resettling his blankets farther away from the taijiya, while nursing his bruised cheek with a goofy smile on his face. Akari chuckled. Would he never learn? She looked up and saw Inu Yasha in his typical place, nestled on the largest branch he could find. Though he was feigning disinterest, his furry ears were pointed so he could catch every soft word leaving Kagome's lips. Sighing she rolled over so she was staring out into the growing darkness. As nice as it was to be with all of them, she was beginning to get very homesick. There wasn't much back home but it was still home. She had to admit that being part of a well known and loved story was definitely fun. The story was however drawing to a close and she still had not been able to speak with the one she really wanted to speak with.
She hoped she would get the chance before the story ended. Then she began to wonder when Fate would reveal to her what she was supposed to do. The woman had promised to come to her again. Akari quieted her mind, it was time for rest.
Fate had come to her again. Akari waited silently for the woman to speak.
"Hello again Akari. I'm sure you know why I have come."
Akari nodded, not sure she was ready for this. "Tell me what I have to do."
Fate frowned. "This is not what you have to domerely one of your choices."
"So tell me already!"
"You must kill Kagome after Naraku is beaten."
Akari felt as if someone had slapped her in the face. Kill Kagome? Why? "Why do I have to kill Kagome?"
Fate did not respond and Akari ran at her, wanting to grab her robes and shake her until she told her why. As soon as Akari's hands gripped the soft material, Fate disappeared. Akari began to fall forward but she didn't hit a floor, just kept falling.
