InuYasha Fan Fiction ❯ Fate Finds a Way ❯ A Marriage Offer ( Chapter 1 )
[ P - Pre-Teen ]
A/N: Back by demand here is a continuation of fate and free will. This is taking off of the Kagome Lives ending. Hope you like it. BTW I don’t own Inu Yasha or any of the characters here except Iroke and Akari.
Chapter One – A Marriage Offer
The full moon gave him plenty of light to see by as he stalked toward the strange shed. Steam was leaking from between some of the floor boards. He vaguely wondered what kind of shed it was but he had seen the girl go in there and he had a job to do. Staying hidden in the bushes he looked around. The miko had gone into the shed as well and he had been told to watch for the hanyou for he would prevent him from completely the mission given to him. No sign of the red and silver that signaled its presence so he crept forward, to the door of the shed. He opened the door slowly, pausing as it creaked on its hinges. A blast of heat and steam made it difficult for him to breathe for a moment as he stepped inside. It was hard to see but he could see the form of a woman approaching him through the steam. Pulling the dagger from his belt, he reached out and grabbed her arm. It was slick with sweat and water but he managed to pull her forward and before she could cry out, thrust the dagger into her stomach, angling it so it punctured the lung.
The carriage bounced its way along the road as Iroke stared disconsolately at his rice bowl. Ten villages in his father’s lands and he’d had yet to find even one woman he thought suitable for his bride. He was ready to give up and go back home. He felt a gentle tap on his shoulder. “What?” he asked irritably.
His companion merely pointed and Iroke looked in that direction. He almost dropped his bowl in his haste to exit the carriage, despite the fact that it was still moving.
Akari heaved the pack to a more comfortable spot on her shoulder. “Kami, what do you have in this thing Kagome?”
Kagome grinned, sporting another pack, just as large as the one she had given Akari. “Just a few presents for everyone. I’m just glad you were here to help me.”
Akari blushed. Not wanting to tell Kagome the real reason she had been waiting by the well. Inu Yasha was still adjusting to the fact that his brother had claimed her as his mate and the offer of peace the taiyoukai had given. Akari met him by the well while the hanyou worked out his feelings. Kagome however, noticed her silence. “You weren’t waiting for me were you Akari,” she teased.
“Well…” she stopped as a voice behind cried out for them to stop.
When they turned they saw a man running from a beautifully decorated carriage, pulled by two handsome black horses. The man stopped before them. “What is your name?” he asked taking Akari’s hand in his.
She looked at Kagome, who looked as confused as she. “Um…Akari.”
The man, dressed in silk from head to toe with very short dull black hair, kissed her hand. “Akari, I have chosen you to be my bride.”
“What?” she asked dumbly, feeling as if she would fall over backwards. Was this guy for real? What made him think she was going to marry him?
“I’ve been scouring the country side for a woman suitable to be my bride and I have chosen you.”
Before either Akari or Kagome could respond again, Inu Yasha landed beside them. “What’s going on Kagome?”
The stranger swept Akari and Kagome behind him, drawing the gilded sword at his side. “Stand back ladies! I shall save you from the foul youkai.”
Akari swallowed. Wrong choice of words princey, at least she guessed he was a prince. She could both see and feel Kagome and Inu Yasha bristle at his comment. “What’d you call me?” Inu Yasha growled, cracking his knuckles and taking a step forward.
“I said back foul youkai. You shall not taste the blood of these innocent women!” She had to give him points for being brave but he was dumb.
Kagome stepped from behind the prince and put a hand on Inu Yasha’s arm, though she looked as angry as he. “Akari, shall we continue?” she asked, giving the prince a look that could kill.
She joined her friends and gave the prince an apologetic look. “Gomen but I can not be your bride.”
With that she walked away, leaving the prince to stand in the middle of the road confused.
