Chapter 4 – An Angry Prince and a Sauna
She walked along the path to the village both sad and happy. She was glad to have seen him today but sad that he could not yet stay, though she was certain that Inu Yasha was beginning to accept his brother once again. She never once regretted her decision to stay in this time. It seemed a dream come true, no matter the pain she had felt. She just wished that Fate had told her what it was that Kagome was going to do that would merge the time lines. Maybe she could find another way to prevent it that didn’t involve Kagome’s death. She heard foot steps behind her and whirled, ready to fight. “Oh Prince Iroke…what are you doing here?” she asked relieved.
The prince stalked toward her, grabbing her arm and pushing her roughly against a tree. She could see now the anger in his eyes and the furious look on his face. “What did you think you were doing?” he snarled.
His fingers were digging painfully into her arm and the bark of the tree into her back. “What are you talking about?”
“What were you doing with that scum?”
Her eyes widened in surprise. Had he been spying on her? “What were you doing spying on me?”
His grip tightened, causing her to gasp. “You are going to be my bride, so what were you doing with it?”
Akari was getting angrier by the minute. “I already told you I am not marrying you.”
“So you’ll settle for that piece of garbage?”
She started to protest further but Iroke’s lips crashed upon hers, kissing her roughly so that her teeth dug into her lips, cutting them. She put her hands on his chest and shoved with all her strength. The prince was not expecting her resistance and let go of her stumbling backwards. She wiped at her mouth with the back of her hand. “Touch me again and I will remove your ability to make heirs, dear prince.”
Iroke laughed. “Do any such thing and my father’s armies will descend on this pathetic village.”
She just glared at him, knowing he was right. The prince continued. “I won’t let him have you.”
“Akari!” she heard Inu Yasha’s voices seconds before he landed beside her, “I knew I smelled a rat.”
Akari breathed a sigh of relief. The prince merely laughed again. “I am not afraid of you but I will be going. You have not chosen well Akari.”
With that the prince disappeared into the forest. “Are you okay Akari?”
“Yeah,” she sighed. “I’m fine.”
They began to walk. She heard Inu Yasha grumble something. “What did you say Inu Yasha?”
Without looking at her he replied, “I said, that baka brother of mine needs to hurry up and come back so I don’t have to keep watching out for you.”
Akari grinned as the hanyou leapt away and into the trees. Sango met her by Kaede’s hut. “Oh there you are Akari-chan!”
“What’s up Sango?” Akari asked trotting up to the taijiya.
“Kagome-chan told me to get you. She and Inu Yasha have made us a surprise.”
Akari followed Sango as she led her in the direction of the hot spring. What could those two have done? As they approached the spring the two friends saw Kagome standing beside a very poorly put together shack. “Kagome, what in the hell is that?”
Kagome grinned. “It’s a sauna!”
Akari laughed but Sango just looked confused. “What’s a saw-na?”
Kagome opened the door and ushered them inside. There was a bit to put the coals and a bucket for water. The two had even made benches to sit on. “Kagome it’s great!” Akari squealed. She loved saunas.
“So what does it do?” Sango asked, still confused.
Kagome chuckled. “Sorry Sango-chan. We put some hot coals here,” she said pointing to the pit, “then we pour some water over it and it gets all steamy in here. It’s kinda like the spring except we can close the door and won’t have to worry about prying eyes.”
Sango’s eyes lit up with understanding. “Oh I see. How nice! We should try it tonight.”
“We most certainly will,” Kagome replied as they left the shack.
They walked back to their huts, stomachs now grumbling for food and looking forward to their treat.
Iroke drove his horse harder, forcing it faster, taking his frustration out on the poor animal. With every crack of his whip he saw the youkai kissing Akari. So this was the reason she had denied him. Well if he couldn’t have her then no one would. He brought the whip down again against the horse’s lathered sides and streaked through the gates of his father’s castle. Without waiting for a squire to take hold of the animal he jumped to the ground and ran up the stairs, screaming for the old man.
