“I swear, if that guy doesn't quit looking at her like that, I'm going to slice him in two!” Inuyasha whispered to Miroku.
“Calm down, Inuyasha. She can take care of herself. Besides, we'll have somewhere to stay for the night.” He reassured, trying to calm his dear friend's quick temper.
They reached the top and were led to the main foyer of the palace. Having been led in through a lower side door, the change from the bleak wood and wrought iron gates to the emaculate white finished double doors was a bit of a culture shock.
“Wow! This is really where you live? I could get lost in here for years!” Shippo observed, trying to take in all the new sights.
Directly across from the doors was a grand staircase that split into two parts after the first 12 steps. They were led up the left side and down a well-lit hallway.
“These rooms are for your gentlemen companions and this room over here is for the lady.” Kotoro motioned to various rooms, a single doorway joined Inuyasha and Miroku's rooms and Sango's was just across the hall. He led them a little further down the hall and opened another door. The room was a little larger than the other three and the bed was large enough to fit three people comfortably.
“This, my dear, is your room. Dinner will be served with in the hour so you should have time to freshen up a bit. If there is anything you need, I will do my best to assist you in any way I can.” He kissed Kagome's hand again, repeating the action respectively to Sango and bowing to the other three before leaving.
“Wow Kagome, that guy is being really nice to you. Do you think he likes you?” Shippo asked bouncing on the bed a few times before Inuyasha pulled him down.
“No, I think he was only being nice.” She smiled putting down her pack and pulling out a few things.
“Yeah, a little too nice if you ask me. I think he was being more than friendly, Kagome.” Inuyasha scoffed, trudging around the room.
“Oh, you're being ridiculous, Inuyasha. He's just trying to make up for assuming we were someone else.”
“I think Inuyasha has a point, Kagome. He did give you a bigger room and put you further away from us. I'll just bet that his room is somewhere down this hall. I'm beginning to think that this Kotoro's intentions aren't exactly innocent.” Miroku conceded.
“You are all being silly! He is only trying to be nice, that's all. Now would you excuse me? I'd like to get cleaned up a bit before dinner.” She pushed them all out the door and went to changing.
“What the hell is taking her so long?” Inuyasha grumbled, pacing back and forth before the stair well. He wore his hair in a traditional ponytail but refused to change from his Fire rat Haori like the others.
Miroku apparently wasn't listening but considering the kimono that had been set out for Sango, who could blame him? It was pale green with silk embroidered bamboo stalks and her hair was to the side, tied with a matching silk ribbon.
His own robes had been thoroughly cleaned and mended and they looked as if they were brand new. He was very impressed with the work although he failed to notice another pair of appraising eyes on him.
“You can stop pacing, Inuyasha, I'm right here.” Kagome's voice drifted from down the stairs, holding an edge of weary impatience.
“It's about damn time! I was thinking you snuck out the ba-“ He stopped mid rant when he saw the pink and white silk kimono she was wearing. It hugged her curves like a glove, showing a fair amount of skin from the scoop neck collar to the daringly high slits up her legs. It took Inuyasha a minute to regain his libido but once he did, he held out an arm for her to take.
“Thank you, Inuyasha. And here I thought you had no manners.” She teased, nudging his rib.
“Yeah, well don't get used to it. As soon as you're done playing princess, I turn right back into a squash.” He smirked.
“I think you mean Pumpkin, not squash.” She giggled, resting her head on his shoulder as they entered the dinning hall.
“Humph, whatever.” He shrugged.
They were seated at the long table covered in bowls of rice, steaming plates of fresh fish and countless other delicacies seemingly from all over Japan. Shippo could hardly contain his appetite and was pinched by Sango several times.
“Welcome, my honored guests. I'm so glad you could join me this night as I was surprised to learn that I am in the presence of greatness. I have heard tales of your heroics. How you have slain countless demons in your hunt for the shards of the sacred Shikon no Tama and your battles with the horrid demon, Naraku. Please, eat your fill and make yourselves at home.” Kotoro announced before taking his seat.
Everyone began to eat hungrily except Inuyasha. He was too busy watching Kotoro drill Kagome on their travels. She was seated directly at his right side while Inuyasha sat right next to Miroku across from her, Sango and Shippo.
The way Kotoro was acting, you'd think she was some great storyteller. He leaned as close as the table allowed and his food was all but forgotten. She seemed to be having a good time though but it was hard to be happy for her when his own jealousy was eating away at him like acid.
Once dinner and dessert were done, they retired to their rooms. Kagome sat alone in her room, wondering what the others were doing. She assumed they were still up talking because she had seen Sango dragged to their rooms by Shippo, but when no one came to invite her, she began to think they had forgotten her. A few times she thought she could hear laughter from down the hall but when no one came still, she felt this incredible surge of sadness.
“I guess they thought that Kotoro was giving me special treatment and they didn't want me around to gloat. Maybe they just don't like me anymore.” She sniffed, a tear dropping onto her knee, which was pulled tight to her chest.
“Maybe this, maybe that. Jeez, you are such a cry baby!” Inuyasha plopped down on the bed next to her, wiping another tear off her cheek.
“What are you doing here?” She asked, a little surprised.
“What do you think? You took so long that they sent me to come get you, now put something on and lets go.” He took her hand and pulled her off the bed. She was wearing an oversized shirt since she hadn't thought to bring pajamas and sitting down, it rose past mid-thigh.
“Oh, okay. Wait! I don't have a robe or anything.” She said, rubbing her eyes like a child.
“Fine, here.” He took off his Haori top and wrapped it around her shoulders.
That one little action brought her just close enough for him to feel her breath on his neck. She put her hands on his chest for leverage and it was all he could do not to kiss her senseless. He tried to relax enough to finish tying the top around her but the more he was forced to inhale her scent, the more his control started to slip.
The demon side of him wanted nothing more than to attack her while his human side was fighting for control. He finally managed to tie the sash and pull himself away but not before giving in and tucking a stray piece of hair behind her ear.
She looked up at him, feeling a bit confused but what she saw scared her into a shocked silence. He looked the same but his eyes were beginning to bleed red. She looked around him to find that the Tetsaiga was still firmly tied to his hip.
“Whats wrong?” He asked, noticing the frightened expression. It was then that he caught the animalistic growl in his voice. He closed his eyes and tried to clear his head but her hand on his shoulder snapped them back open.
“Inuyasha? Are you alright?” She looked at him, searching his eyes.
“I don't know. I can feel my demon blood coming to life but it isn't fighting me.” He cupped her cheek. “ I think that maybe…” He started to pull her closer but the slamming of a door down the hall halted his actions.
“Shit. Come on, they're waiting and I don't want to hear Sango's mouth.” He grabbed her hand and drug her down the hall towards his room.
“Wait, what were you saying? You never finished.” She asked, squeezing his hand to get his attention.
“It was nothing. Just forget I said anything.”
