She knew he was there again. Sesshomaru had taken to watching her of late and for the life of her, Kagome couldn't figure out why. He never said anything to her, just watched her from a distance.
Well, today she was going to confront him. She was going to find out what he found so fascinating that he had her under close watch all the time.
As Kagome walked up to Sesshomaru, the majestic youkai narrowed his eyes. This did not deter her, enough was enough! Naraku was defeated and peace finally reigned between InuYasha and his friends and his brother and former adversary. Just why he was being so mysterious had her dumbfounded.
“Sesshomaru, just why have you been watching me so avidly of late?” said Kagome, tilting her head and cocking an eyebrow at him.
“My reasons are my concern alone,” said Sesshomaru coolly.
“No they are not,” said Kagome, crossing her arms, “I want to know what your reason is, and I believe you are honor bound, by the fact that I am engaged to your brother, to give me an answer.”
At the mention of the engagement, Kagome caught just a flicker of emotion in Sesshomarus eyes. She must be on to something.
“Do you not approve of InuYasha marrying me?” said Kagome calculatingly. “Is that it?”
“There seems to be a pattern here that I am trying to understand,” said Sesshomaru. “First my father took a human mate, and now my brother. This is unbecoming of a family of such rank and importance as my own. It is a dilution of our superior bloodline.”
“Oh for Kami's sake,” said Kagome in exasperation. “Don't you understand the least bit about love?”
“What does this Sesshomaru need to know about love?” said Sesshomaru haughtily. “It is not a necessary emotion when choosing a mate.”
“Don't give me that,” said Kagome, shaking her head. “I do believe that had Kagura lived, you might have been saying something quite different right now.”
The reaction Kagome got out of Sesshomaru was startling. His eyes opened wide, and she could have sworn he looked astonished. Then darkness seemed to come over him, and he turned on his heel and swept away in a flurry of silk and fur.
So, Kagome had hit a nerve. The icy taiyoukai may have more of a heart then he even knew he had.
