"Why! Damnit why??!" A voice cried out in a whisper, tears spilled down creamy ivory skin, only to be absorbed by the warm earth.
Sorrow filled eyes cast their gaze upon the sky. "Another moonless night, another month that passes by, another day knowing the one you love is in the arms of a person who hates him." A calming breeze rushed through, making the branches on the treetops swish slightly, and black raven tresses flutter in the wind.
Once again, she had seen Inuyasha and Kikyo together, but this day was different, they had defeated Naraku, she had went as far as to give Inuyasha a kiss, well a peck on the cheek but a kiss nonetheless.
~*~FlashBack~*~
"Inuyasha! Where are you?" Kagome called out happily. Kagome was bubbling over with extreme happiness, with the help of Kouga and his tribe, and a few other people who had been puppets of Naraku's evil had joined in, in the battle.
Now, officially 3 years had passed since that day Kagome fell into the well, she was no longer the weak human girl, she was a strong young woman and her body told of this statement.
Her legs were lean and strong from all the running from demons, her body had filled out in all the right places, her skin had a very healthly hue to it, and her arms were toned, especially since Kaede had started to teach her how to use other weapons other than the bow and arrow.
Kagome felt as if she could take on the world. Walking into a clear sheltered area she froze, there was Inuyasha, embracing Kikyo, and kissing her. Her heart crumbled into millions of pieces, and they all fell to the soles of her feet.
"Inuyasha! Why!" She cried out, earning attention from both.
"Kagome?"
"Don't Kagome me, I'm tired of you having one foot out the door and the other in. I'm just sick of it you hear me??!! Sick of it!! Just forget it ok, I was wrong to fall for you then."
"To fall for me?"
"Don't play stupid, cause it doesn't matter anymore ok! Just forget it, forget it, it's over." Kagome cried out in a hushed whisper before running out of the clearing.
~*~End~*~
Kagome grew sad again, then angry. "Damn him, playing with my feelings like that."
A small cry shifted the young woman's attention away from her heartache for a moment. "It sounds like a child." She thought aloud, rising off of the rim of the old Bone Eater's Well. Stepping lightly, she made her way into the dark forest, following the cry.
Stepping over fallen logs and uprooted tree roots, she came to stop at a small clump of bushes, parting them, her eyes fell upon a small girl, big dark brown eyes stared back at her, wide with fright.
Kagome reached out to touch the girl, and the girl flinched and backed away, trying to disappear into the weeds. "I won't hurt you. I promise. My name is Kagome, what's yours?"
The girl peeked out at Kagome, and visibly relaxed somewhat. "My name is Rin, Rin is lost."
"How did you get out here Rin?"
"I don't know, I was playing with Jaken, and when I turned around he was gone." Rin whimpered. "I miss Sesshoumaru-sama."
Kagome pondered for a moment. 'So this is the little girl Sesshoumaru cares for, and I thought it was just a rumor.' "Would you like me to help you find Sesshoumaru?" She held out her hand for Rin to take.
Rin nodded and took Kagome's hand.
Before they could take even two steps, that familiar tingling sensation ran through Kagome's body. "Jewel shard, and it's coming fast." She spoke to herself in a quiet voice.
"What's the matter Kagome-chan?" Rin asked, looking from Kagome, to the forest.
Kagome's blood started to pump through her body fast, she didn't have anything to defend herself or Rin. She scooped up Rin in her arms and took off running. "Don't worry Rin." She wish she could tell herself that.
A roar that made her blood run cold rang throughout the night. It was a cry for power, whatever was after them wanted the jewel shards.
Kagome's heart pounded so loudly in her ears, she almost didn't hear the thundering footsteps that were closing in behind them, she almost didn't hear Rin's scream, she almost missed that hidden rock that jutted up from the dirt.
Hitting the ground hard on her knees and elbows, Kagome moaned as pain shot through her like fire. She looked around and Saw Rin laying a few feet away. "Rin, rin, get up. Run."
Rin climbed to her feet shakily. "But what about you Kagome-chan?"
"I'll be fine, you'll help me if you go, now run Rin, go!" Kagome commanded, climbing to her feet.
Rin was hesistant, wanting to stay by this amazing woman who wanted to help her, yet she obeyed Kagome and ran off into the bushes.
Kagome watched Rin from the corner of her eye, when a gruff voice called out. "Give me jewel shards now, you pathetic human!!" A lizard like creature spat out, his eyes swiveling around, scanning the area.
'That's not a demon, what is it.' Kagome stayed firmly planted where she was at.
"Give me the shards and the small human girl now!" It demanded.
'What does it want with Rin?' Kagome was beginning to become panicked. 'What if it takes off after Rin??'
"I don't have any shards or human girl!" Knowing there was no way she could fight off this creature without a weapon, she decided to stall long enough for Rin to get away, hopefully she'll run into Sesshoumaru.
"You lie, I sense the shards on you." The lizard creature thrust out his long two edged tongue, tasting the air, before dashing into the bushes, the same direction as Rin.
"Oh, no, he's going after Rin!" Taking off after the creature, Kagome took a right, hoping to find a short cut.
Looking to her left, she saw up ahead the creature, and then heard Rin's scream, this only caused Kagome to run faster. 'I'm coming Rin, hold on.'
"Come here little girl." The lizard hissed as sweetly as a lizard can. He had trapped Rin, there was no where she could Rin, especially with the 100 foot drop into the canyon behind her.
"No! Go away!" Rin cried, inching further away from the creature. "Leave me alone!" Tears streaked Rin's face as she cowered in fear.
"Get away from her!" Kagome came skidding to a halt in front of Rin, shielding her from the beast.
The lizard pushed Kagome away with his tail, and yanked Rin up roughly by her right arm. Rin screamed out, tears running down her cheeks hard.
Kagome had hit her head on the base of a tree and was having trouble staying conscious, the sound of Rin's scream and her cries got Kagome to her feet. "Put her down!" A powerful blast shot from her hands, hitting the lizard beast, causing him to melt on contact.
"Wow, what was that?" She didn't have time to think, when another cry of Rin's went out. "Kagome-chan! Help!" She cried.
Kagome looked around, and that's when she spotted Rin's small hand clutching onto the edge of the cliff, holding on for dear life. Rushing over, she grabbed Rin's hand and started to pull Rin up.
"You stupid human bitch." Was all Kagome heard before everything went black, and her and Rin were engulfed by the blackness of the canyon.

Sesshoumaru's ears perked when he heard sounds coming from the forest, he flew through the sky with remarkable speed. He had been searching for Rin all day, looking everywhere but he just couldn't find the small girl he had come to care for.
Glancing back at his beaten retainer, he growled mentally, it was Jaken who had lost her, no, it was him who had lost her, knowing that his retainer disliked the small child was the first sign he should have not left her in his care.
But now it was too late to think of such past mistakes, the only thing on his mind was finding his ward. A scent arose to his senses. 'Inuyasha's wench, her scent and Rin's.' His speed increased, and he arrived at the cliff just as Kagome and Rin toppled over the side.
