Kagome sat at her desk, looking through her research paper. It was horrible, but she didn't feel like reworking it. It was due Friday and she still needed three more pages. She heard a tap outside her window and looked out. It was Inuyasha. She smiled and shook her head.

 

“What?” She asked when she opened the window.

 

“I just wanted to see if you'd go to the movies with us.” Yash said. Kagome wanted to, but the paper was more important.

 

“I can't. I'm working on that English paper.” She said.

 

Inuyasha jumped up into her window and looked at the paper on her desk. “You're so almost done. You can go.” He said.

 

“I have no money. I'd have to ask my mom, and then she'd be like `did you finish your homework?' and I'd have to lie.”

 

“Then I'll pay.” He said.

 

“No. Just let me finish it.” Inuyasha looked at the paper.

 

“Well the movie's at nine. So, if you finish in like an hour, we can still go.”

 

Kagome sighed and nodded. “Okay.”

 

Inuyasha sat quietly while she worked. They were freshmen in High School and had been friends for two years. She finished the paper and looked at it gloomily. She hit print and smiled. “What are we seeing?”

 

Inuyasha smiled. “I don't know.”

Kagome and Inuyasha sat on the park bench. The movie had been dull. They watched the stars twinkling in the sky.

 

“Yash?”

 

“Mm?”

 

“What happened to your Mom?” he tensed. “Sorry. I shouldn't have asked.”

 

“She died giving birth to me.” He said.

 

“Oh.” Kagome felt immediately sorry for bringing it up. “Sorry.”

 

“It's okay.”

 

There was a weird silence that passed. It wasn't tense, and it wasn't comfortable. It was just . . .silence. Kagome sighed and looked at her watch. “We should go. I have to be home in ten minutes.”

 

“Kagome?” She looked at him, waiting for him to continue. “You're my best friend.”

 

She smiled and nodded. “I know.”

 

Inuyasha shook his head and walked Kagome home. “Good night.” He said before heading back to his house.

 

“Yash!” Kagome called.

 

“Yeah?”

 

“You're my best friend too!”

 

He smiled.

 

“Good night.” She said, and disappeared into the house.
